From TFW2005 (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/japanese-transformers-40/takara-tomy-announces-transformers-legends-new-line-celebrating-30-years-of-transformers-180247/) -

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Takara-Tomy have updated their website with the announcement of a new line of Transformers toys. The line is named "Transformers Legends" but should not be confused with the Legends size class or the mobile game from Mobage. This line, Transformers Legends, is billed as "various characters who have appeared in the 30 year history of the Transformers, getting new releases with a modern interpretation and modern technology" (our paraphrasing of online translations)

The first two releases in the line have been revealed as Rattrap and Optimus Primal, from Beast Wars - and you might notice that for this line Takara-Tomy has reverted to the original Japanese names, so these two are being called Rattle and Convoy, respectively. Rattrap / Rattle is the new Generations Deluxe class toy, while Convoy is the original Beast Wars Ultra class toy, using the remolding from the 10th anniversary Golden Disk reissue set.

YES!

Now I'll (hopefully) be able to get Skids etc. at non-Hero-Gangu markup prices.:)
I really thought TT would just let them go and focus on the Movie stuff.

Hmmm, could be some nice figures come from this line. Certainly not the first 2 though.:(

I got so excited when my blurry morning eyes first saw the headline and associated pic! A new Primal figure!

But then I was a little disappointed. Another repaint of the '96 mold.

I might pick up the Rattrap, but at this stage it doesn't look overly different to the US one. I was hoping for some chrome. And yes he had red 'rat' eyes when in robot mode, but it makes him look a little demonic in beast mode.

As for Primal, the paint apps look no different to the 10th Anniversary Takara/TRU version, so he's a pass.

Awesome that at least one of them is interested in properly celebrating the 30th anniversary of Transformers.

I already have that Primal as it looks the same as the 10th anniversary retool. It is an awesome toy and I don't see how much more it can be improved as it already has so I understand a reissue.

I really do hope they get on with Skids! Another 'new mold' BW character would also be very welcome.

Sweet, I just hope now that they don't go crazy with toon accurate colours like they have in the past

Fingers crossed for Skids as well

Missed out on that Optimus Primal mold many times in the past so this is good news for me.

I can't be completely sure from looking at two toys but this is what Thrilling 30 should have been; a tribute to iconic/milestone characters in Transformers history.

At first I thought it seemed a bit late for them to come to the party with a 30th Anniversary line... but for Japan, 2015 is their 30th anniversary for Transformers. (even though they seem to stick the 25th & 30th anniversary logo on their toys in Hasbro anniversary years).

And now another "Legends" name to get even more confused over.

Can we really expect to see new molds in this line? Surely it'll just be recent Generations figures with different paint apps and the occasional older figure...?

Hopefully some nice figures will come from this line.
The first 2 are a good start though I am a bit disappointed with Convoy.

Will definitely pick up Rattle.
BW is one of my favorite series so im excited.

If they are releasing Rattrap in this line, then it is likely the replacement/end of their Generations line?
So we are likely to see various figures with extra paint-apps like in their Generations line... and probably including any Hasbro Generations toys that they haven't yet done.

Then good on Takara for actually genuinely thinking of the older fans. For Australian collectors, Takara releasing CHUGL figures is really no different to Hasbro doing it -- neither are available in stores here anyway! :p But hopefully the paintwork will be nicer (and figures won't be delayed...)

I have the BWR Convoy vs Megatron, it looks like this Convoy has a darker coloration to the beat mode parts. The BWR Convoy is much lighter than this picture.

Well I guess this confirms no new mold for Primal in the foreseeable future. :(

Good to see that TakaraTomy is keeping up with the Classics lines of figures, will be looking forward to seeing what else is made available. :)

That was my first thought when I saw Rattle/Rattrap under the new label. It seems like it's replacing the Takara Generations line and including the Hasbro toys, as well as some older reissues/redecos.

Interesting direction.

(going to focus more on the bw side of things)

I guess it was a no brainer to also have a small push for beast wars due to the anniversary and considering the recent generations renditions.

Quite torn though. On one hand I'm happy because it means likely we are getting some re-releases of bw moulds with show accurate schemes. Other hand, fact they are releasing this primal means no updated modern rendition of primal/ other characters is likely coming anytime soon.

A brighter note (which I am hoping) is that at least they re-release henkei dinobot and others. Really need it even if its not perfect..

Re: primal- I never committed to any of the prior - tv accurate bw primals (this larger mould or the robotmasters/ telemocha one). I'm happy to get this one (without aftermarket scarcity/cost issues). At the same time I think the smaller robotmasters primal/telemocha ver seems to be the more accurate in terms of scale and detail to the other figures....

I wonder if they will release both versions- seem to recall they did release both versions in the 07 telemocha line.

That then leads me to the frustration of thinking why they haven't updated primal/core cast (with gen rhinox treatment)...so i don't have to choose!

I got an email from BBTS about pre-orders for these new Convoy (Primal) and Rattle (Rattrap):

The new Transformers Legends line starts out with a Takara redeco of the Generations Ratrap figure at $29.99, and a reissue (with possible upgrades) of the Beast Wars Reborn Ultra Optimus Primal at $64.99.

Ooo, don't do that to me, Takara...

Yeah, I got that email. No interest in these figures though. Liked Beast Wars but hate organic looking alt-mode toys so I hope this new line is not all Beast Wars specific.

I very much doubt it'd be 30 BW toys (as much as I could dream :P)

I'm interested to know what these 'possible upgrades' are on Primal. If I could suggest a few things:

Update the launcher in the left forearm
Remove the mace from the right forearm and put in another new launcher
Put some jets in his back
And paint those goddam swords!

I doubt any of this will happen though. It'll just be a repaint rather than a retool.

So Takara tomy announces Transformers Legends Optimus Primal and Rattrap with better, more modern technology. I will be getting these for sure as I've been hanging out for a decent Optimus primal.

Optimus is the original Ultra class figure with a new beast face. Rattrap is a redeco of the Generations toy.

Did they get rid of primes second weird rubber alien face on the brown re-release? I found that to be weird on my original bw figure. This one doesn't seem to have that weird face attached to it.

I hope he still has his shoulder canons and swords + his mace of righteousness!!

TakaraTomy, should release all these as part of this new line. They'd all sell.

A much clearer image to salivate over...

Yes, the battle mask was gone on the 10th Anniversary retooling.

I have the Telemocha SP-DX Primal, and whilst i'm pretty happy with it... i'm being tempted by the open mouthplate and accurate chest. They should have used this mould but with the SP-DX paintjob to make it really worthwhile.

As I had expected, the Legends line is the new Generations line, as the next ones to be revealed aren't Beast themed, but are current Hasbro Generations figures - Tankor, Whirl and Roadbuster (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/japanese-transformers-40/new-takara-transformers-legends-images-roadbuster-whirl-and-tankor-180622/).

It makes for an interesting three-some, as someone at that TFW link has pointed out the "coincidence" of these three toys being released together, to the set of three Dorvak toys from the 80s (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/transformers-news-rumors/27450592d1404496437-takara-roadbuster-whirl-tankor-dorvack_cat.jpg).
