View Full Version : Headmasters Mini-Casettes

So I was thinking about collecting the various G1 mini cassettes (or just one of each mold) when I came across the info for these 2 combiners:

- Legout (Dial+Saur).
- Decibel (Graphy+Noise).

and also

- Enemy (Frenzy/Rumble recolor).

These were rather a turn off as I cant seem to find them for sale anywhere and what info is available suggests they would go for obscene prices.

So I'm curious as to how much they would be worth and iif there is much chance I would ever find them for a reasonale cost (<$100).

I just did a bit of googling & it seems as though they're even rarer then hen's teeth (probably due to the fact that they were released only in Japan in '87).

Some collectors have them (TFSource (http://www.tfsource.com/collection.html#jexc) & Alex Bickmore (http://www.toyarchive.com/Transformers/TransformerForeignToys.html)) but I'd say there's next-to-nothing chance that they'd ever be sold for under $100... :(

(given the rarity of these cassettes & the 6 individual Japanese Headmaster Heads - I'd say they'd be priced very similarly to each other... :()

If you were looking for Enemy (http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Enemy), You'd probably be searching for 5 years & still your search would most probably come up empty handed... :(

Thanks Pulse.

Yeah, I figured these will be really hard to get. Probably not worth the time.

Not that I actually care about MISB/MOSC etc, just the bots.

Those combiner tapes are very rare. However if you do manage to get them we can remove them from the "Collective collection what are we missing" list. :)

Enemy might be a bit easier to find, but you have to break the toy off of the radio.

Thanks Paulbot,

So no one in this country seems to hve them? Damn...

By 'Enemy' I actually meant MC-01 Micross whch uses the Frenzy/Rumble mold, not the actual proper Enemy with the tape deck :o

Looks like I'm not gonna find these any time soon. :(

Demonac almost had them once...

Do tell...? :D

Is that the one where the seller backed out or something over payment?

Combiner Cassettes? You'll be lucky to get the four of them for under $1000, let alone $100.

Tober

I meant $100 each for loose.

Seeing as I managed to get Grandslam, Raindance, Beastbox and Squawktalk for $53 (some wear on Squawkbox and only 2 weapons tho), I started to look to see if there were any others I was unaware of... and sure enough... AAAARRRRGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The other four don't even look as good and they're not Soundwave's minions which makes it harder to actually want to front the money. But I am now compelled by the completionist in me... :(

...if only Takara still had the Micross mould... not only would a Rumble/Frenzy reissue be sweet as - but an Encore Enemy wouldn't go too far astray either! :)

ToyFare Guide prices:
Graphi = US$200 MISB US$50 LM
Noise = US$200 MISB US$50 LM
Dial = US$300 MISB US$85 LM
Zauru = US$300 MISB US$85 LM

P.S.: Remember that these are just guide prices. For toys that are so rare (especially outside of Japan) it really becomes a seller's market.

Even loose, you'd still be forking out over $300 each.
The dino modes look ok, but the combined modes are a mess.
BTW, what Paulbot is refering to is Botcon last year, where I happened to be in the right place when they were being shown off. Having all 4 in my hand...I was real tempted to just make a run for it. Hehehe

If I were you, I would have licked them... d:

The seller would have lost it, told me off for doing what I did & hopefully... told me to keep them... ;) :D

The combiner cassettes are on my want list, but are so rare that I have only seen them about six times on ebay in the last 8 years.
Their final sale prices were:

Dairu - Green cassette/dinosaur - (none seen on its own)
Zauru - Black cassette/thunder lizard - 375, 399, 494
(diaru AND Zauru - 1135)

Gurafi - Red cassette/pterosaur - (none seen on its own)
Noizu - Blue cassette/tyrannosaurus rex - 399
(Gurafi AND Noizu - 416)

Note that those prices are in US$, which the convertion could be up to double due to the age of the auctions some of those prices are from. (translation spellings are from a TF list website)

Thanks for the info and words of discouragemant Gok, Demonac and Griffin.

I'll keep an eye out for them but doubt I'll have tht sort of money to spend.

The dinosaur modes are interesting but the combined modes are too odd.

They sure do lose alot of molds! :rolleyes:

Damn! Less than a day and one is already almost at AU$1000! The final prices on those are gonna be insane. Pity one is missing weapons, it'd make a great bulk buy, completing the set all at once.
I won't be bidding on any of them though. Even I have a limit to how much I would be willing to spend on tiny TFs on my current budget.
I would pay heaps for Shafler (Headmaster Head) just to complete the set, but those four cassettes will just remain on my wish list until I am earning enough to not care about wasting a grand on a micro-cassette Transformer.

There is now an auction up for Zaur (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280259376037&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:AU:1123) with weapons and box

Is it worth going to hospital over licking lead-based paint? Is that even a question?! :p :D

Maybe the 2nd/3rd seller had been wanting to sell his but wasn't sure if there was a market?

After the first lot of auctions went up, Maybe that peaked-interest became the right time for the 2nd/3rd seller to cash in & onto Ebay went his Japanese cassettes?

Maybe? Maybe my train of thought is way off? :confused:

I figure they read this thread and listed them just to spite me. Happens all the time...

Got some good reference pics of them tho. :)
