I just think this figure looks terrible, i always wanted a mp ultra Magnus but I will not be getting this figure. He looks good in truck mode, but if I was to display him I would want him standing next to my mp10.

I think it might be hard with current toy technology to make him as thin as he looks in the cartoon. I'm OK with a little extra bulk to get a MP UM thats not just a white MP Optimus.

Citizen Stack does it by putting the extra bulk into height. But KFC uses terrible plastic.

Doesn't look as good as I thought he would, but I reckon he will look better as the toy continues to be tweaked between now and it's release. I'm certainly not putting a stop to my pre-order of Mags :D

that pic certainly isnt the best and really makes magnus look like a modified version of the g1 magnus with slightly better articulation.

it would be good if they can do what they did with G1 convoy to MP convoy.

Why is everyone so put off by this one pic of UM when most of us were drooling over the earlier prototype pics where he didn't look so "fat". I'm sure in time, better color pics will surface and have us all drooling again. Surely it's just a poor angle.

Paintjob looks a bit sparse to me, like the shins ought to have the touch of red seen in some illustrations (admittedly not the cartoon). I think his inner legs would have been better white and blue on one side perhaps? Maybe the red works in vehicle mode though.... and it's maybe early/hand painted so i guess it could change. The buttflap is barely noticeable though :)

The prototype also looks like it's becoming a bit worse for wear (shoulder joint, should missile panel) resulting in the dodgy posing. Here's hoping there's no real issues or they have time to iron them out before release!

yup... he definitely looks fat.... maybe they made him look fat because he's short....? really hard to tell on photos....

if he comes out that fat on release date i'll definitely be put off..... dont really want a fat bot on my display :) I'm surprised that glass didnt crack.....

Considering how well they've replicated the "brick" look, the articulation and posing is quite impressive.

I'm getting a Motormaster vibe from the "uncoloured" prototype behind it though... which would be an interesting redeco if they did one.

I gotta say that I am more excited about Wheeljack and BB than Ultra Magnus. It doesn't "wow" me. I don't think I will pay full retail for one.

That's what I'm thinking. The angle and the pose are emphasising the upper torso's bulk.

Sparse it may be, but it's mostly screen-accurate. Maybe there could be some dots of paint here or there, or some pinstriping on the final product.

The red on the lower legs is almost certainly for the trailer.

if they did that I'd be really disappointed. It wouldn't be a Masterpiece line anymore. I'd hate for Breakdown to be a recolour of Sideswipe - he needs to be a proper gestalt.

If this is how much some PAINTED prototypes are going to be scrutineered, the final release should be interesting! :p

So far this bloke is looking good; G1/Diaclone proportions are in check and that head/face sculpt looks as if its been ripped (Or rather picked up off of a Junkion Scrap-heap ;):D) straight out of the '86 movie. :cool:

Good lord I hope we see a Diaclone Powered Convoy repaint out of this mold. :)

Yeah, glad to see the head's looking better than the grey prototype images.
Still wish his butt-flap folded away, but it's less obtrusive than I thought it'd be.
Would kind of like the lower legs to be blue rather than red (i.e. for TT to prioritise robot mode over alt mode), but it still looks pretty good as is.

I was wondering about the front bumper too so I took a look at his vehicle mode in the movie and and S03E05 and he does indeed have a red front bumper in both. So they're sticking to animation model colors except for the thighs/trailer are white which is good for robot mode accuracy but looks a little off in trailer mode. All in all I think they've done a fantastic job of faithfully recreating him in MP model and December can't come soon enough.

Nice to see the missiles can flip over and attach to the front of the car carrier, and glad to see the gun looks a decent size.

While I agree the red bumper on the truck looks out of place but the red legs actually look good on him. I am glad he has white thighs though as I wasn't a fan of the red thighs from the dreamwave comic but red legs work, goes well with his red chest for a more even color distribution.

Since this is Takara I'm guessing he will end up looking the same as the stock image. Takara change the paint scheme far less often than Hasbro.

I can live with the red bumper since it is cartoon accurate, but it would be nice to have the legs the right colour.
