why can't the human figures have details on their faces? even DR Wu's partners set have details on their faces.

Anyway, still a good looking MP just a little over the pricey side but heh, better than paying after market prices for it later.

Yeah, i would've preferred a set of optional stick on symbols rather than the tampo'd one.
Even though it's a good idea for the chest, the front end of the WW doesnt lend itself to be able to have the rotating symbol.

CBratron
19th June 2014, 09:46 PM
I don't think it's the tampograph that's the problem. It's the raised surface forming the Autobot badge. It would've been just fine with the tampograph on a flat surface.

Perhaps go for Toyworld's Bii then, if you're after a Penny Racer style design. I've got one, and I'll likely be keeping it in car mode for display with MP figures.

I think it's a reasonably decent effort considering what they're trying to achieve (i.e. realistic vehicle w/ cartoon-like robot mode which cheats physics/reality ). But to me... at pre-order discount price (~$50-60), this toy works out to be approx. the same price as a Voyager Class TF, and while I still think it's not quite worth that price, I do feel that it still offers superior value for money than your average Voyager these days.

Am I missing something here? - What's wrong with his colour & chest's faction symbol?
Agreed. Especially considering that the chest faction symbol is flippable, which is really cool. Allows for a realistic vehicle mode (that's a superior robot in disguise since it's not driving around with a huge flaming Autobot sigil on its roof!), but still has a chest symbol in robot mode! ;)

I think this is the single best Bumblebee release since the G1 Original & Pretender!
I think the Classics Bumblebee mould has been the best so far. At $25-30 it's about half the price of a pre-ordered MP Bumble, but of course with only Deluxe level of engineering (which is about the same as a Voyager these days :p ). Time will tell if MP Bumble offers double the level of awesome as Deluxe Classicsverse Bumblebee. ;)

Don't forget dude, that Japanese price is also including a fully poseable & transformable Spike in an Exo-suit - I think that makes up the difference value-wise, compared to the other MP Car bots, perfectly.

I love the '06 Classics Bumblebee too but for me he's more of a Pseudo-G1 Bee; I know what HasTak's intentions were at the time & the limitations imposed on the overall design as a result of Volkswagon's (Western) "NO War Bots" policy of the time - But he still feels like a far enough departure from what Bumblebee looked like in the Comics & Cartoon for me not to include him in my previous 2 member list. ;):)

I dunno man, it's got me baffled as to what people could find wrong with this little bloke ; "little" being the operative term as he is only going to come up to the other Car bots' waists/shoulders, height-wise , so that may be why certain details look less "clean" because they're actually harder to apply on smaller surfaces?... :o

True. Whether or not this adequately justifies the price point is something I'll decide upon after I get the toy and judge for myself IRL. ;)

Don't forget that Bumblebee hasn't always been a VW Beetle -- his G2 Gobot toy transforms into a concept race car (I personally don't know what the make/model is). I think that Classicsverse Bumblebee has done a pretty good job considering that they were unable to acquire the VW licence by making him a generic looking compact, so it still evokes the spirit of a Beetle. ;) Alternity Bumblebee did the same thing by using the Suzuki Swift, which I also thought was cool (even if that toy was rather expensive at full RRP).

Also, this isn't the first time that TakaraTOMY has used the VW Beetle, remember that Disney Label TF Donald Duck transforms into a Punch Buggy too. Although it could be argued that Disney Label isn't associated w/ war. But also keep in mind that while TakaraTOMY may have acquired the VW Beetle licence, it doesn't necessarily apply for Hasbro (as appears to be the case with Lamborghini; re: Hasbro's apparent inability to release MP Lambos, and I'm assuming that AoE Lockdown will be an approximated Aventador) :o

Are you going to be meeting up with anyone when you're going to Japan? If so, maybe ask them to preorder that toy (or toys) from Amazon Japan. They ship free within Japan, so you only have to pay for the cost of the pre-ordered toy. And with a direct pick-up, you won't need to pay for international shipping. :) Amazon JP still has MP Bumble for pre-order for 4889JPY (approx. AU$51), and it comes w/ the bonus face mask. :o

No, I'm going to be with a host student. I presume they have MPs at retail? Do they sell out fast?Depends on the MP, and the retail outlet. Where I am, only Yamada Denki stocks MPs aside from the specialty stores in the city. If you're in a major city you might have some hobby shops around, if not then you'll have to try mass retail or take a trip to Tokyo/Osaka/one of the other major cities.

Either way, MP Soundwave was gone the morning he was released. Soundblaster lasted a bit longer but still vanished after a month-odd. The odd MP Smokescreen was still floating around for weeks after it was released.

I'd imagine Bumble would go pretty quickly.

So, the Toy-accurate face (no mouth) is the exclusive item to Amazon Japan.
(that face looks odd now, but is definitely something to want if you want a homage to the toy instead of the cartoon character)

At least the Hasbro HK releases of the JP Masterpiece toys include the Amazon Japan items... plus a coin.
(so best to look for a HK version from a HK site if you want all three faces - even though the regular two is just a happy or sad face)

GoktimusPrime
27th October 2014, 01:41 PM
The Japanese text is referring to the toy-accurate face as a "battle mask," which I think is pretty neat and also referencing Dreamwave canon where Bumblebee did indeed have a toy-accurate battle mask (as did "Goldfire" Bumblebee in IDW, although that wasn't directly based off the G1 toy). ;)

I don't know wouldn't a more lemony yellow be more cartoon accurate :p
The warm yellow that they have doesn't really scream Bumblebee yellow to me, but that might be just the photography. We wont really know until we have it in hand, or someone takes some photos with natural light.

I think this release is the least appealing so far. But he just had to be done, because he is an important character to Optimus Prime. Like Starscream is to Megatron, but obviously not the same :)

I don't know why... maybe the proportions are slightly out... but the car mode to me just doesn't look like the curved "Herbie (http://www.herbiemania.com/53skyway2006.jpg)" VW beetle. Looking for some images of the real beetle car (here (http://www.netcarshow.com/volkswagen/2003-beetle_last_edition/), here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/59/1949_VW_Beetle.jpg), here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/88/VolkswagenBeetle-001.jpg)), the car seemed to be more rounded, like a rainbow from the windshield to the back bumper, but the MP Bumblebee has a flatter top, so it makes it look longer.
Maybe it's just an optical illusion on the full-scale car.

I think you're right on there, looks like they've taken some liberties with proportions (the MP-12 series alt-modes weren't the most accurate either). But this is one guy I'm happy to leave in bot mode.

None of the MPs are dead-on likenesses with their G1 cartoon counterparts. Reasons fort his include:

* Reality. Cartoon models cheat reality all the time, which toy designers/engineers simply cannot do IRL. Bumblebee has an additional challenge of having a robot mode based on the Penny Racer proportioned Beetle, but the MP is attempting to achieve a more realistically proportioned Beetle.
* Vehicle accuracy vs show likeness. e.g. MP20 Wheeljack looks more toy-accurate in vehicle mode with all the Alitalia colours, decos etc. The cartoon model lacked any of this and has far simpler colours. So the toy is caught between trying to achieve vehicle accuracy in car mode and show-likeness in robot mode.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/Masterpiece%20Wheeljack/mp_wheeljack12_zpsbaa66263.jpg
* The G1 cartoon was far from being consistent! Shades and shapes varied wildly between different animators. It looks pretty darn close to me. :o

I remember the episode City of Steel, where Optimus has been rebuilt (minus an arm), and he bends down to hug Bumblebee... that image above of him standing next to MP-10 reminds me of that episode, and think it will be a good cartoon (and original toy) scale.
I think it probably looks small for people who are more familiar with the modern Bumblebees, which are leadership/secondary characters who are "big" in size, stature and importance in the show/movie/toyline.

Packed in with a similar sized exosuit makes it equal up to the value of the other Autobot cars, and I'm really excited to get these.

Their items were very expensive, so this would have been the only one I would have bought.

its kinda disappointing. paying the same price as the other autobot cars but getting less. he looks so tiny and has no articulated hands/wrist swivel D:

i know the exosuit is supposed to make up for it, but...:(

Based on that review this will be the first MP that im disappointed with. I dont think its worthy of the masterpiece name and not worth the $55 i spent.

There's nothing particularly bad about him he's just really ordinary. Fixed hands, weird face, standard accessories, average transformation and articulation. And I couldn't care less for Daniel's exo suit.

It does seem disappointing, considering the size which is unavoidable. Also the exo-suit won't be appealing to everyone. So a lot of people are going to be divided on this release, over the perceived value. Maybe they just needed a few more accessories, like the jetpack , Bumblebee used to fly to Dinobot Island, or the water skis for vehicle mode. Not really fussed on the water skis, but the jetpack that would be cool :)

Paulbot
19th November 2014, 10:09 AM
Cliffjumper had the waterskis, and a big ass gun, and they would be nice accessories in the MP line when they figure out how what to do about his superdeformed car mode.

What they could have sold with Bumblebee would be the energon carrying space-cart they used in the first Spacebridge ep. Then with the next 10 or so MP releases they could each include a bit of the Spacebridge circle. Combine and build! ;)

Oh, if anyone ordered the Bumblebee with battle mask, and doesn't want the battle mask, let me know.

I'll take him off your hands if you're not satisfied. :)

What are the odds he'll be the same box size as the rest of the autobot cars?

Is there any resource that lets you compare box sizes? I'm trying to get some display cases to put my MISB stuff in but the difference in sizes of the few MP's I have (MP-05, MP17-20, Hasbro Acid Storm, Hasbro Grimlock and YOTH Prime) is really annoying me.

Any thoughts on how big the Star Sabre and Magnus boxes will be? MP-04 size maybe?

It should be the same size box. And the cost is based on it basically being a 2-pack like Rumble/Ravage, Frenzy/Buzzsaw.
It won't be a 3/4 empty box like the Hasbro MP Prowl.

Actually you guys should appreciate that vw has agreed to allow this to happen.
I thought they weren't willing to support it and now that it has, this should be highly appreciated.

I am hoping the same with Porsche for jazz.

I was surprised when I saw the logo and authorised product on the test sample box.

Someone asked me a couple of days before if it was a genuine VW beetle model. I also thought they wouldn't let their name be used on Bumblebee any more due to the whole Germany war thing.

from past interviews - they've been getting the license through their Tomy international side of the business.

If you check the underside of Wheeljack you'll see ŠTOMY on the back of his left leg.

Edit: took a photo

Hasui: "About the new Masterpiece, I believe many of you want to hear about MP20. We can't show it yet, but MP20 will finally be that character, that car model which the license was very difficult to obtain". (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-masterpiece-47/masterpiece-mp-20-clarification-177751/)

So yeah that's why we got Wheeljack and Bumblebee and so... Jazz should be soon?

It's been like that for a while, even on Hasbro toys - it says Tomy with Hasbro instead of TakaraTomy.

It could just be part of the transition to full absorption of Takara by Tomy, just like Hasbro did with some of its acquisitions (Kenner no longer exists as a branch of Hasbro, after the first few years they bought it - Beast Wars toys started off being labelled as Kenner and Hasbro, but then later were just Hasbro).

And as a toy company, Tomy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomy) is apparently now one of the four biggest toy companies in the world, behind Mattel, Lego, and Hasbro... so they probably want their Brand name being just as uniform and recognised, on any of their products that no longer need their original owner's name on it.
(last I read... this year Tomy was actually now third, pushing Hasbro to fourth spot... but I don't have the article on hand to verify that, so don't quote me on it)

it is child play with it comes to toy collecting - am glad BB made it to the masterpiece series... it is about being happy with buying and collecting and playing with them....

when we get too caught up how much it cost at this retailer to the other and how much cheaper one can get it or how one can get it from Japan directly and others from other sources.... lets move on and enjoy the releases from Tomy

I agree. I personally don't think any of the MP cars have been worth paying full retail for, but as others like drifand have mentioned, pre-ordering does make them cheaper and lessens the pain. ;) It certainly does make them cheaper than the local $100 price tag for MP cars, and arguably at approximately $50, you're paying about the same as a full priced Voyager Class Transformer. As limited as MP Bumblebee may appear to be, I'd wager that it's likely to still deliver more bang for our buck than say Age of Extinction Voyager Class Galvatron. ;)

Someone asked me a couple of days before if it was a genuine VW beetle model. I also thought they wouldn't let their name be used on Bumblebee any more due to the whole Germany war thing.
Since around the mid 90s VW/Porsche decided not to allow their vehicle toy licences to be associated with war. The last VW/Porsche Transformers we saw was in 1993 w/ G2 Bumblebee, Hubcap and Jazz. 1995's G2 Gobot Bumblebee transforms into a concept car that doesn't resemble a VW/Porsche vehicle. VW did allow Transformers to use the Beetle licence in 2010 for Transformers Disney Label Donald Duck (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Donald_Duck), because the toy isn't associated with war. MP Bumblebee will be the first Transformer toy in 4-5 years to carry a VW licence, but also the first TF in 21-22 years to do so with a war-associated character. The MP line (and subsequently Age of Extinction) also re-acquired the Lamborghini licence which had previously been 'lost' to Transformers as well, which is why Universe/Henkei Sideswipe/Sunstreaker/Red Alert transformed into approximations of Lamborghinis rather than any exact Lamborghini vehicle.

It's not a QC issue, it's just that people need to work within the limits of the joint. If you bend it past its limit of course it's going to pop out.
