So the other day I had that surreal moment when I couldn't remember if I had a certain transformer or not. Currently over the 600 mark and up until that I had it all in my head. This time I had to look up my shmax account to check......

At what point did You reach the 'surreal' moment?

Years ago I was going through my BW toys and discovered I have Torca. I had no recollection of when or where I got him & had to work out how to transform him again (it was opened already). I was genuinely amazed that I'd discovered this!

hmmm. My memory has a few gaps already hahaha. I can't remember when I started lapsing but so far I haven't doubled up purchase on anything TF wise, but I have done so for DCUC figures ;P. For Tf's my double ups are intentional - Army building...

As for lapse in memories with transformation... well there's a lot of that already, unless it's G1. More on figures I don't usually play with - Energon, Alternators, Bayverse and the first MPs.... which is why every now and then I do pick up a random figure just to fiddle play - transform back and forth.. doesn't often happen though lately...

Aplogizes for the terible pic, smaller room and had to use panorama to get the first shot

The other half of the lib is my fiction and then all the comics ...

It's happened to me with a few smaller figures (below deluxe) where I've not really cared too much about the character, seen the figure in the shop a few months later and can't remember if I have the blasted thing or not :o. Never ended up buying a second of a toy by accident but do have quite a few double ups on comics :p

(puts hand up sheepishly) :o

Usually it is insignificant items though, like gimmick stuff that isn't worth remembering. :p

My local comic place usually stock piles the comics I buy till it gets to a certain point, so I'm dropping like $200 at a time on comics every 3 months or so. The hard part is that I actually keep up with the comics I read by downloading them, so when it's time to buy them they're pretty much bagged and boarded straight away, put into the comic boxes. I have a few gaps in my collection because of this, and it frustrates me, lol.

Bigger problem is remembering where they all are! I just repacked my 84-85 box (no room to display) as I had it out to fix a broken sludge recently.... Barrage and Thrust have gone walk abouts!

But that said.... There was a second Brawn in there.... When he he'll did I get a second brawn?

This thread is the reason the phrase "first world problems" exists.
Still, its one I'd be happy to have.

I only have <200 figures, but I do have a spreadsheet for them.
Is that nerdy?

I don't think so. I first started keeping an electronic record of my Transformers collection when I had <50 in 1985. Forget two finger typing (http://cafewhispers.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/abbott_20120510141857850416.jpg), I was only typing with one finger! Fortunately, I was keeping up with the Commodore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eofyDQItc-w). :p

Heh - first world problems - very true :)

This time last year I started to move all my cataloging info over from a 50-page word document to a Microsoft excel document to make it easier. But that was nearly 200 figures ago now and I hadn't finished back then anyway so I'm still doing it the simple stupid way :o

What format do you use to record your collection? I've been trying but I can't find a suitable method. Anyone else?

The only time I have messed up so far is not remembering what I have ordered. I purchased MP Acidstorm from Robotkingdom but I had a pre-order in the list so I wasn't going to receive it for about 3 months. In the meantime I forgot I ordered it and ended up getting one off eBay.

It took a few weeks before I realised I had already ordered it. RK were pretty good about it and simply cancelled that part of my order and refunded the money. I have a spreadsheet now I use to track what I have ordered so this doesn't happen again :p

I've only bought one TF twice by mistake (and that was a 3" titanium so you can see why I didn't care)

With most of my collection in storage, it's hard to do a quick shelf check. I'm pretty good at knowing what I have, but backup proof is good.

When I recently culled my collection I took a photo of what remained in each series and that's a helpful guide, and I plan to migrate that info to my spredsheet (eventually).

Last night I also had to audit my TF comics to remember which UK issues I'm missing before bidding on some eBay auctions - but now I have a definitive list of which issues I need to get and which I'd like to replace that it's in the cloud so I can get it if I stumble upon more for sale.
