Madman have a sale on all their Transformers DVD's right now. From G1 right through to Prime. Not the biggest sale, but I thought it was worth pointing out :)

Thanks for the heads up,
I'll be chasing up the Animated seasons when they come out as a box set, unless they are one day released on BR, they are available in 1080p I think.

I'm reluctant to give Madman any more of my money since they decided not to release any more of Transformers Prime on Blu Ray.

I just checked and you can get the Shout! Factory complete series of Animated shipped from Amazon for $50 Aus.

That is almost half price of buying the individual seasons through Madman, so yeah, sorry, not going to support them.

Hhhmmm... the remastered G1 DVDs are tempting. They've removed the annoying added on sound effects from the original DVDs which they sourced from Rhino, right? Because I currently have those DVDs, but I don't like the added sounds. Hhhmmm... need to pay off MP Wheeljack first though. :p

The Kid Rhino version added all these ridiculous sound effects to make things louder. Here's an example...

that is horrible. so the previous releases by Madman use this Rhino version? I've never really noticed but comparing side by side the added sounds are irritating.

The original Madman release, came out approx. 10 years ago and in those silvery boxes by season (w/ 2 box sets for season 2) are sourced from Kid Rhino, so yes, they have those annoying added sound effects. I don't know about subsequent releases from Madman.

From tfwiki (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Rhino_Entertainment):
In 2002 Rhino remastered the Generation 1 cartoon series for release on DVD, to subsequent controversy. As the original broadcast masters (the tapes used for broadcast) had degraded to an unacceptable level of visual quality over the years, Rhino opted to use pre-broadcast masters that had far superior clarity and picture quality. Unfortunately, as these pre-broadcast tapes used unfinished animation, the episodes included on Rhino's DVDs suffered from animation errors, missing special effects and colouring mistakes that did not occur in the original 1980s broadcasts.

Additionally, Rhino contracted post-production studio Magno Sound & Video to remaster the monaural soundtrack to a 5.1 surround soundtrack worthy of a DVD release. Unfortunately, Magno's engineers added in some 30 tracks of new sound effects to this new soundtrack, and once again Rhino's DVDs introduced new elements that were largely seen as undesirable. Rhino representatives rather disingenuously attempted to claim that these sound effects were there all along and that fans had simply been unable to hear them before, despite evidence to the contrary.

The new sounds include abnormally loud and glossy stock sound effects for lasers, explosions, and swooping jets layered across numerous scenes. The show's commercial bumpers were also altered, with motor, laser, and transforming sound effects added where there had originally been only music and Victor Caroli's voice.

I bought the Remastered ones when they were on clearance at Toys R Us. Might still be, check your local stores. Haven't had a chance to do a comparison between them and the original Madman release yet.

I think people overplay the "annoying added sound effects" too much. If anything about the Remastered sets bothers me is that they've put the commercial bumpers back into season one (I'm sure they aren't there on Madman's first release). Oh I hate those with a passion.

(They belong as special features, not in the middle of a story that no longer has commercial breaks!)

For some reason, the three times I clicked on those links to watch the openings, I had to sit through an unskippable ad for a contraceptive. What? Why would Google/YouTube link an ad like that to a cartoon clip? And I'm not logged in so it can't be based on my viewing history - and if it was the woman talking to me in the clip? She does nothing for me. Bizarre.

I like the bumpers, they add to the experience for me, but I see how they can interrupt the story. I find the sound effects worse, they just seem so inserted and alien to the cartoon.

I like the bumpers too, but they could have just been at the end of the episode, before the closing credits. They should have had enough episodes to cover them all with just two at the end.
