Here is my review of the new Masterpiece MP-20 Wheeljack. Absolutely beautiful figure :)

So awesome to finally get a new unique mold in the MP line after a pretty long wait. Cant wait for Bumblebee and Ultra Magnus hopefully before the end of the year!

Brilliant write-up & photos as always Koolkollectibleskhai!

Absolutely AWESOME figure and an utter work of engineering-magic by Shogo Hasui! ;):D

Here are some pics I've taken, in addition to (& including) those posted here (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=436765&highlight=Huge+hobby+link#post436765) :):

DO NOT wait around for Hasbro to release a $100, absolutely no different, version of this figure - it is WAY too damn good to be put off and I GREATLY Recommend TakaraTomy's Transformers: Masterpiece (MP-20) Wheeljack. :D:D:D

He looks fantastic and so happy I went in on the group ordering :) thanks Edmund

I still don't get how they cram so much animation aesthetics into these figures.....and still transform so well

It truly baffles me

100% agree with all the praise this figure is getting. MP Wheeljack IMO is by far one of the best MP's to date! Love the G1 homage accuracy, love that it is officially licensed now and the attention to detail that has been put into the mold by the designer/s makes this an absolute must have. As Hursti Said don't delay getting this guy now! DO IT!! ;)

Best MP figure yet, he feels very sturdy and looks awesome I also like how he isn't noticeably hollow and all angles he looks great. I forgot to add the mirrors on in this pic.

A couple of very minor paint app issues (not dissimilar from any of the other MPs really), and his 'wings' are exceptionally stiff on mine (couldn't go from bot to car mode without trimming a tiny bit of excess plastic on the wing - now works beautifully).

Outside of this, the transformation engineering is fantastic and he's great looking in both modes. Cannot agree more with Hursticon's recommendations. If you love G1, get this guy ASAP!:D

For those that have both Generations Wheeljack (Hasbro version) and the MP, is it worth it having both? Would appreciate some comparison shots if someone could manage it.

I received mine yesterday and I love it. It looks nice with my other Masterpieces, though that's a moot point as nearly all of them do.

I'm really dissapointed that Wheeljack's white is largely bare white plastic. He looks so unfinished in alt mode next to his MP Car mates.

That said he's still a fantastically engineered toy that is distinct enough from the Generations deluxe to make worthwhile owning. :D

I agree. He needs some detailing or paint apps on the shoulders and legs. I was surprised that the back of the legs are actually more detailed than the front.

On my shelf (ie not on close inspection), i really can't see much difference between the white cars.
I was a bit pissed off today as mine had a green tampo smudge near one back wheel... but a cotton wool bud and some eucalyptus oil cleaned it up nicely!
I probably wouldn't have been able to do that if he'd have been painted! ;)

He does have a tricky tampo print - the striped design and high contrast makes errors so obvious - but thankfully they've done a pretty good job with it overall.

My first car mp with minor paint imperfections.
Got a small ding near his hands exposing some black like you reverse your car and scratched your bumper. Luckily some white paint covers it and make it look good again.

I am fearing the qc of the mp line have not been great at times, the datsuns still have my vote as the best painted as they do not go lazy on the white for wheeljack here.

Awesome figure if you pre ordered early and bought it at under $70 delivered.

Quick thoughts:

* Overall a fantastic toy. Fantastic range of articulation.

* Part of me wishes that the tail light panels could swing down so that they end up on the bottom of the hands (i.e. resting against the pinkies) to make them look more G1-like. But admittedly that would interfere with the hand's ability to hold anything (which G1 Wheeljack never could). :p ;)

* The G1 fanboy in me finds it just downright weird to be able to look at the back of Wheeljack's head. For 30 years now I've become accustomed to seeing part of a rear window grill on the back of Wheeljack's head, and now I'm faced with an actual proper back of his head! Whoa. Although turning the head around 180 degrees does arguably make the MP head look somewhat more G1 toy accurate (http://www.tfu.info/1984/Autobot/Wheeljack/wheeljack.htm). :p

* Yeah, it's a bit plain in some parts, but the cartoon model (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/transformers-news-rumors/27408955d1387529026-mp20-masterpiece-wheeljack-wheeljack_electronic_kitbash_cartoon.jpg) is even plainer!

* The white plastic doesn't look nearly as nice as the painted whites on other MPs, most notably MP Prowl. But having said that, Wheeljack has a load of other paint operations throughout the toy which Prowl doesn't. My guess is that the use of white plastic might've been done for budgetary reasons due to the additional paint apps. <shrugs> But the painted white parts look more brilliant and stands out against the white plastic parts; so there is a minor lack of visual uniformity.

* The rear window feels like it needs a firmer/better way of locking up into the back of the robot.

Earlier today my daughter was handling MP20 in the backseat of my car and dropped one of the wing mirrors. Thankfully I was able to find it, but now I'm thinking about just gluing those suckers into place. It also made me really glad that TakaraTOMY had the foresight to include a spare set of wing mirrors with this toy too! :D Has anyone else gone ahead and glued theirs in (or are considering it)?

Im thinking about gluing the mirrors on iin mine but im just worried if I drop him or something hooks on one and one of them breaks. Then I have to go through the process of trying to remove the plastic to put a replacement in. Its tempting to glue because the hole for the right side is a bit loose tends to make the mirror wobble. Maybe ill just remove them and forget I had them.

I never added the mirrors, still in the little baggie they came in. To me I dont really notice them missing but anyone who knew they were ment to be there would spot it, gluing is an option but knowing my luck id mess it up n id never forgive myself lol

A wonderful figure! Mine was nearly on a boat back to Japan but I managed to stop that *phew!* A great transformation and likeness are packed in this little super car.

..as mine had a green tampo smudge near one back wheel... but a cotton wool bud and some eucalyptus oil cleaned it up nicely!
I probably wouldn't have been able to do that if he'd have been painted! ;)Eucalyptus oil eh? Mine was not fully masked and the large green 'A' (that sits in front of the rear wheel) has a very soft edge to it instead of a sharp line. I was thinking of taping the green A and rubbing off the excess ..if i dare attempt it.

Does anyone know the reason why the factory didn't just attach and glue the mirrors during production? The panels are moulded for them, so isn't a last minute attachment. Does it look too weird to some people in car or robot mode to have them, to need them detachable?
They don't seem to be in the way of the transformation or posing... so it just seems odd that they didn't come attached.

My guess is that they were designed to be detachable to give fans the choice of making him cartoon accurate (he has no mirrors present from what I recall/have seen in either mode) or more realistic to match a real life Lancia Stratos Turbo 5.

Comparison of 'toon & MP Wheeljack...

I transformed this toy from car to robot step by step, and at the last stage one of the mirrors came off, so I just removed the other one to make it look more show-like in the final robot mode (then stuck 'em back on when I was done). ;)

Damn! I opened MP Bumblebee earlier today and was suitably impressed. Then I opened MP Wheeljack....

... oh sweet Lord Primus he is cool! His alt mode looks so similar to his G1 toy that I unconsciously went to play with his rear spoiler as it was always loose and coming off on my G1 toy. I really don't see how they could have done his alt-mode better than they have, just bloody awesome! The only detraction for me is that his little wings cant come out the the undersides of the car like the G1 toy - that was meant to be the whole reason he could glide long distances in car mode (though I only saw him do it once, in the "Trans-Europe Express" episode and even then he didn't deploy them and Motormaster seemed to glide better )

Robot mode is great! I see now why they gave him that toolbox thing, so that it could be used to create his shoulder cannon. To be honest the missile sticks out a little too far for me, a slightly stubbier one would have been better. I would also have liked the option of having his G1 toy twin shoulder cannons, but I suppose like the car wings this figure is meant to represent the cartoon - not the toy. But for the most part it is very good indeed, I was particularly impressed with his head sculpt and the fact he has regular arms instead of the gorilla-like ones his old toy had. A little shorter than the other MP cars, but very well balanced, poseable and proportioned.

Overall - excellent! A really great figure with a good transformation and two awesome modes! Very pleased to have gotten him :D

You will need to use a miniature cross-head screwdriver to remove the screw from the back of Wheeljack's head. A pretty neat Easter Egg and a nice nod to Transformers Animated. :) It'd be neat if there were a chase variant "clean shaven" face that looked more like TF Prime Wheeljack. :D

So I guess it gives them the option of a future redeco to have just a new forehead piece screwed on, for that hidden face to then be the visible face.
We've seen that Exhaust has a completely new whole face, so not sure why this would be done if they didn't plan to use it for a future toy.
Maybe FunPub/Ehobby exclusive Shattered Glass Wheeljack... because of the moustache. :p

Exhaust looks to have an entirely different head (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/attach/4/0/5/9/7/mp-232_1410198275.jpg). Perhaps...
* They initially planned on having a cheaper option of only having a new face plate, but later decided to just go for a whole new head.
* They just wanted to give Wheeljack this little Easter Egg (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Wheeljack_(Animated)) like they did w/ MP01 (https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7417/10362589785_2c5dcee3a0.jpg) and there was never any other initial intention behind it. Derrick Wyatt must be stoked (if he knows about this). :D
