I saw it in the program guide this morning, if for some reason you prefer watching it with ads and not on DVD/Blu-Ray it's on telly tonight, channel 10 I think.

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw an ad on TV. My life has been bliss ever since.

With each of the networks now having 3 or 4 channels, they repeat a lot of movies within short spaces of time (it's like repeat screenings on PayTV, but less predictable). Network 7 was playing the Pirates movies a couple times over, while 9 played the newer Batman movies a couple times within a few weeks. (not to mention replaying their most costly shows up to 3 times in the week, and the odd new movie within two weeks on a different channel of theirs)

It wouldn't surprise me if we get the full run of three again, as it was just a couple months ago when Ten last played them a week apart.

That's interesting. Channel 10 has been sitting on the rights for Transformers since the first Movie aired back in 2009 and were playing one every few months... and now Channel 9 has it.

I just saw the ad tonight, and they refer to it being from Steven Spielberg, but not Michael Bay.
As a fan I thought it was funny, but wonder why they did that. Only a portion of the fans see him as a negative element, so to the rest of the world that spent a billion dollars on most of the Transformers movies, Bay is the reason for that.
And it's not like he's unknown, as Channel 9 have been using him to promote their show "The Last Ship", which was done by his Production company Platinum Dunes.

I'm actually rather enjoying watching ROTF tonight - I just go to the kitchen for another beer during the truly cringe-worthy bits ;)

You tend to forget all the cool stuff from that flick (Alice, Ravage, the forest fight etc)

"You'll never stop at one! ... I'll take YOU ALL ON!"
"Decepticons...mobilize, it is time"
"You picked the wrong planet! Now give me your face!"

Just some awesome lines of the movie. I actually like RoTF more then the first one and AoE, it's plot isn't very good but it has some great one-liners and action scenes.

Rather then Stanely Tucci "OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!"

Channel 7 used to repeat TFTM every New Year's Day for years. I think they stopped somewhere around the mid 90s, but that used to be an annual ritual for me. Pretty sweet way to welcome in the new year. :)

The 2007 movie is back on again tonight - 9.30pm on channel 12/One.

I only ended up seeing a single commercial for it, a couple hours before it started (which was why I didn't even know it was on until that day)... and it is funny to see the different angles the TV stations use to promote the same movie.
On a recent screening there was heavy promoting of it being a Michael Bay film, and on this one, the TV advertisement was all about Megan Fox... more than the actual robots... as if people would watch a movie just because she is in it.

I don't think she was watching it for the plot. :) More for the mindless distraction.

For some reason a lot of the robot deaths were cut but not the human deaths. I guess they didn't want a repeat of 1986. ;)
And I was really hoping they would cut the totally unnecessary Romeo and Juliet law scene... but I suppose they wanted to educate the kids who seemed to be the target audience of this particular screening.

griffin
4th September 2016, 04:48 PM
One odd thing they cut was the slo-mo car tyre hitting the face of the special ops guy at the farmhouse... a scene that Bay was really proud of in one of the dvd extras, and less violent than the soldiers being blown up by Optimus just 20 seconds earlier.

It's my least fav (like most folk) of the flicks but I thought that Ravage and Long Haul looked awesome! I also thought a communications satellite was a clever alt-mode for Soundwave. Nice forest fight scene of Optimus vs Megs, Screamer and Grindor too and Alice was a great introduction of the Pretenders concept into that universe.

Might be a helluva lot of negatives in that flick but some great positives too :D

The first Transformers live action movie is screening yet again tonight on channel 9 @ 9pm-ish.

They might be screening all four again, one each Saturday, in the lead up to the fifth movie.

Usually they heavily promote these sorts of screenings to cash in on the new movie, like with the Pirates movies and FastnFurious movies in the last month - telling us to see them before we see the latest one in theatres.

That intro to the 2007 movie... "leading us to an unknown world called Earth"... definitely contradicted now if the trailers for the fifth movie are anything to go by.

Despite all its errors and plot holes, I still have trouble not watching the 2007 movie when it starts playing on TV.

I will be a little distracted for the next couple of hours... :p

EDIT - the first ad-break had a TV trailer for the fifth movie, and tonight's screening is brought to us by The Last Knight movie, so more TV spots are likely tonight and the next 3 Saturdays.

I started watching the second movie tonight on channel 9 while putting stickers on some Generations toys, and had to turn it off after the Decepticons destroyed the aircraft carrier because channel 9 had totally butchered it. It must be because it started earlier than normal, at 8.17pm, so the entire movie had to be censored of extreme violence... which for Transformers movies, are the best bits (for the expensive special effects). The scene where Optimus "dies" had removed him killing Grindor, cutting off Starscream's arm, and the actual thrusting of the sword through Prime's chest (all they show is Megatron appearing behind him, and then him hitting the ground).
And for some reason, they removed the Decepticons crashing into the Aircraft carrier... but kept in the blood-splattering death of the soldier in the Shard vault near the start of the movie, and the execution of Demolishor by shooting him in the head.

Channel Nine have been including the TF5 The Last Knight movie in its latest package of "upcoming new movies" TV commercial that started playing about 2 weeks ago, so it could be on in the next month.

I didn't realise it was now 2 years and 6 months since the TF5 movie was out in cinemas... and yet free-to-air hadn't played it yet. The Marvel Universe Movies, they seem to be able to play within two years of them being at cinemas (like Black Panther - it came out in cinemas mid-February 2018, and was on free-to-air at the beginning of January 2020... and it is having it's fourth screening this week on a Nine Network channel... talk about overkill in just three weeks).

Transformers 4 is having its first screening on free-to-air TV on Saturday, at 7pm on Channel 9.
Only 2 years and 2 months after it started in theatres...

(I didn't realise it had been so long)

I think my earlier posting was meant to be sarcastic, as it seemed like a long time for it to show up on free-to-air, and now the 5th movie has an even longer wait. Usually movies that didn't do so well, are rushed out to DVD and TV to reduce their losses quicker.

When Channel 9 finally showed TF4 on TV here, it was heavily censored due to its early start... but the repeat screening about a week later started later, and was left un-edited.
It will be interesting to see what they do this time - if they start it early and edit it for a PG rating (because TV execs think "Transformers" is meant to be for kids).

About damn time... over two and half years after its cinema release.
Even though I have it on DVD, I still like to see it on the regular TV for others to get to see it for the first time, or for some of us fans to have it on just because it is on.
The details on the Nine network website (https://www.yourtv.com.au/program/bumblebee/362097/).

I wonder why it takes so long for movies to be allowed to be shown on free-to-air, especially since video/dvd rentals no longer exist, so they don't have to wait for a minimum rental period. The Bumblebee Movie was released on DVD/BR/Digital late April 2019, over two years ago... after a few weeks or even a couple months for those people who were keen to buy a copy, can't it start playing on TV?
They get money from TV screenings, so why wait all that time when they could have been getting this screening fee two years ago when DVD/BR/digital sales dropped off.

Paulbot
20th July 2021, 12:30 PM
Maybe Netflix had an exclusive rights deal on it? Those streaming rights and the DVD/Bluray purchase period would replace the older rental periods.

It could have gone straight to Paramount Plus and skipped free-to-air altogether!

Yep, a last minute change due to someone (I haven't heard of before) dying this week.

Hopefully they put it on next week.

After just playing the first five movies in March and April, the 2007 movie is on tomorrow night (Sunday) at 8.45pm... so maybe they are playing them all over again to lead into the 6th movie (Bumblebee), as they haven't played it yet after cancelling it in July.

How are people to going to understand Dark of the Moon if they haven't seen Revenge of the Fallen?

Megatron's now a truck in Africa? Sam is living with a new girlfriend in another city? Where did Dino, Que and Brains come from?

Kidding, none of that is explained in Revenge of the Fallen!

griffin

Dark of the Moon is probably the better one to skip, as it did the most retconning (a whole Decepticon army sitting on the moon for years while Megatron and the Allspark were just on the planet below... AND... a solar harvestor with a Prime Crypt... what a coincidence), plus the contradiction of Megatron needing Optimus to bring back Sentinel, but also needing him to die to bring back The Fallen.
And it also introduced a different look to Cybertron to the 2007 Movie... while also having a quarter of it sheered off at the end of the movie, and yet doesn't fall into the earth which would have destroyed all life.

Looks like they are skipping the rest as the Bumblebee movie is on this Saturday.

griffin
3rd October 2021, 06:38 PM
Looks like they only skipped the second movie, as tonight they have the fourth movie (Age of Extinction) on channel 9go, which continues their Sunday night Transformers movies.
My guess is that they will play the fifth movie next Sunday, and then do the repeat screening of Bumblebee the following Sunday, as they often replay most of their bigger free-to-air movies within a couple weeks.

Looks like I guessed correctly about the Bumblebee movie being replayed after the first ones were done.

I was watching the 5th movie (Last Knight) while doing some things, and as visually mesmerising as it is to watch the special effects and bots, it just got so frustrating to see all of the errors, plot holes and poorly written dialogue, that ruined a story that had potential, just for a director to film a 3 hour patchwork of 30 second sizzle scenes (each scene would be amazing in a commercial or trailer, but all of them together is just confusing and hard to watch).

Each movie is good and bad to different people, and the second one was one of the more profitable/successful ones by Michael Bay, so it is strange that Channel 9 don't want to play it any more (or aren't allowed to?).

Drug use, sexual references and bad language.... what's the timeslot they are showing the movies in?

DOTM is on at 7.30 on saturday, but I don't remember if they were all being played from 7.30... but I think I remember having some bits cut on the ones that did start that early.
It's hard for me to think, but was ROTF any more "adult" with its content than the others? I can think of some unnecessary cringe-worthy elements on each of them.

Come to think of it, I think DOTM would be worse for actually showing humans being shot and blown up (vapourised)... which would be more gruesome for the 7.30 timeslot than any robot deaths (no matter how graphic it is with gore and fluids making them look more organic than humans).

ROTF had drug and sexual references. Because of course it does, that's absolutely what fans want to see in a Transformers movie.
Yep. Come for the robots, stay for the close-up shot of John Turturro's backside. I wouldn't mind seeing a TF movie set outside of Earth without any human characters TBH. That Cybertron battle scene in Bumblebee remains one of my favourite TF fight scenes in any TF movie. :)

griffin
2nd April 2022, 12:03 AM
The first three had sexual references (Sam's Happy time, and in DOTM his parents talking about how well endowed he must be to land another hottie), so if it is because of content that prevents ROTF from being shown, it must be the drug references... but it seems a rather minor thing considering all of the violence.

The first I saw an advertisement for it was tonight during the Hobbit movie... so they don't seem to do much advance warning these days with their movies.

Latest Channel 10 commercials of their TV content for the Summer break have been including the first few live Transformers Movies... so maybe they have finally shifted over from the Nine network, since Paramount and Channel 10 have the same owners and share content. (the movies would already be on Paramount+ so it was only a matter of time until Channel 10 was allowed to started screening them for free)

The one problem that the Nine network had with the Transformers movies was the habit of starting them before 8.30pm thinking that they were just kids movies, and as such would cut out some parts of the more violent bits.
Let's see if Channel 10 plays them later and in full... but the downside will be having to watch/hear commercials for the next reality show (currently the Bachelor) at the start of EVERY commercial break. It makes me avoid watching the 10 network channels, and just record their programs so that I can skip those annoying commercials.

Friday 30th has a double-feature, of the first two Movies, from 7pm on Channel 10.
The early start could mean some edits from the first movie... as I think Channel 9 cut some of the more gruesome robot killing.

I can't believe how bad DOTM was, story-wise... I tried watching some of it last night, and it was just so confusing and cringe-worthy (I turned onto it just before the "Deep Wang" scene), I just couldn't watch it after about 30 minutes (I probably haven't seen it in full since 2011).
And tonight has AOE, which is almost as bad in terms of a poorly structured plot and inconsistent momentum.

I tried and tried to appreciate the Bay films but they are just so bad. The first one holds a special place even though it isn't great but the rest are practically unwatchable.

I couldn't imagine what it would be like watching them on free to air stretched out with ads.

Channel 10 continues playing the Transformer movies for the first time, with the third movie (DOTM) on tonight at 10pm, and the 4th movie (AofE) on tomorrow night at 10pm.

I'm now a bit confused, as the 5th movie (Last Knight) was on channel 9go last weekend, and the 6th movie (Bumblebee) is on channel 9go this saturday. So maybe the Nine network had the rights to the Transformers movies for a number of years, and the first four had expired, but the next two (from 2017 and 2018) haven't yet lapsed to allow Channel 10 to start playing them.

I did actually start watching AofE the other week, but gave up by the time Cade had Optimus in his barn... it was just so, meh. The first two movies I can easily watch with only a couple of cringe-worthy moments (for me), but from the third movie on, I just find it really difficult to sit through the whole movie... which I really hate, because I want to be a loyal die-hard fan, but how much of a fan am I if I can't be excited about multiple major productions for the Brand.
Like, I flicked over to the Last Knight during the last half hour last weekend, and it just made no sense. None of it. They are all on Lockdown's ship to get to the ignition chamber, but decide that it is better to hop in "helicopter" transports that don't work that high up (because the air is too thin), and end up being shot down or crash, rather than use Lockdown's ship to land safely. But then within minutes of being there, the humans give up and leave, after all that effort to get there, and decide to parachute back to earth, when again, Lockdown's ship was still around somewhere doing nothing. And after all that, when the good guys save the day, we are still left with a planet (Cybertron) attached to the side of the Earth like a leech, going nowhere... which you would think, would completely destroy the Earth as the gravity of both pull them together, upsetting the rotation of the planet (affecting day/night and the tides).
How can you sit and enjoy a movie, that has such significant and obvious plot holes and significant loose ends.

Hopefully ROTB is interesting and well executed, so that we are able to watch it and enjoy it, without being distracted by really absurd elements (movies 2-5) or lots of boring bits (movie 6).

Channel 10 are playing the movies again... the third time in less than a year.
Last week was the first one, while tonight has ROTF.

Also, last weekend I saw on the tvguide, channel 9go was playing Transformers Prime in the morning, a couple of hours before an episode of Cyberverse... which is interesting, because it looks like 9 and 10 have swapped cartoons and movies (10 used to have the cartoons and 9 used to have the movies, but now it is the other way around).
9now streaming site also has the Transformers Prime episodes on it, for anyone who hasn't seen that series yet and wants to see it for free.

Yes, which I mentioned when Channel 10 started playing the movies after so many years on channel 9 (at the time I was wondering if there was licensing agreement that had just expired).... but I was commenting on the unusual appearance of two cartoons (so far) now showing up on channel 9 after so many years on channel 10.
So I wasn't surprised about the movies showing up on channel 10, I was puzzled as to why the cartoons had just suddenly shifted to channel 9.

I don't know why I do it to myself, but I cant help to flick over during a Transformers movie on TV.... just in case it is showing a good bit.
Last week I flicked over during DOTM during a couple of scenes that made me cringe, and then this week (last night) during Age of Extinction I managed to cross over during the very uncomfortable scene that had the father confronting his daughter's boyfriend about their age difference, and then going into a lot of detail about how it is a legal loophole in Texas (with a close up of that legal statute), as if Michael Bay wanted to educate movie-goers on how to be allowed to have sex with a minor. It was not something that a Transformers movie should be focussing on, or even mention... considering how simple it would have been to change one of their ages, without it even changing the story.

Next Tuesday has the Last Knight on 10shake (channel 13 in most places).
Considering how long Network 9 had the rights to TLK, I would be surprised if Network 10 play the Bumblebee movie the following week.

Last Saturday, I was surprised to see on channel 9Go in the afternoon, the Beast Hunters (TFPrime) Rise of the Predacons mini-movie.
I have noticed that they had started playing TFPrime about a month ago on weekdays, but they weren't up to the final season yet, so this was surprising and out of place. (and I can't remember if its original screening was as a combined mini-movie, or as the individual episodes)

I only caught the last 20 minutes of it because I didn't realise it was on, but it was a bit of a flashback, as that originally came out 10 years ago now. Kinda like seeing an episode of the original cartoon on TV while the Beast Wars cartoon was first airing in the mid-90s.

Channel 9Go is also slowly making their way through their repeat run of Cyberverse, with the Invasion of Cybertron episodes currently being shown.
