Over $130? Damn...

Direct link here to the Amazon Japan page (http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00OJRBZS6) in case anyone needs it later.
(The link at TFW is a viglink "fundraiser" link... I may support their site by forwarding people to their pages without anything in return, but I don't want to force others to be funding their site if they prefer not to.)

12,960yen - December 10th

Usually toys aren't available to foreigners, but since this is listed as a DVD with a "free" bonus toy, it is available for foreigners like us to buy it (it's not the first time they've done this, and some of us have bought past movie exclusive DVD/toy combos).
But best to wait until it goes on sale if you aren't desperate for it.

That really is a sweet paint job. but I already have my Movie Hound and can't come close to justifying that price.

Still cheaper than this DVD I saw on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Sidekicks-Region-Norris-Jonathan-Brandis/dp/B001BFXCUI/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1413548584&sr=1-2&keywords=sidekicks).

how do they even afford that stuff? i'm guessing a lot of dvds and blu rays reach the bargain bin pretty fast.

Weird mixture of disposable income, nerds and nationalism. If Japanese DVD/Bluray were too expensive to be bought they would have come down in price a long time ago, but I guess it seems to work for them? Pretty ridiculous though.

The rental market is till pretty strong in Japan as well. Although I am still not entirely sure how many people buy DVDs/Blurays etc.

I think Ploughman's lunch has a fairly good summary of the reasons why there.

From previous experience, is there any chance of it being sold as a stand alone figure down the track? Maybe for less than $150.

RobotKingdom is doing it for $149 with the Blu-Ray.

Nah. Past DVD exclusive toys in Japan haven't been released on their own... but they have seen massive discounts later on Amazon Japan.

This has been released now, and some early images of what the packaging looks like can be seen here (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/in-package-images-of-amazon-japan-age-of-extinction-blu-ray-with-hound-redeco-181659/).
In-hand images of the actual toy out off packaging are sure to come soon.

The toy is officially called "Hound army camo version".

I soooo badly want one but I can not justify the cost.

I may have to paint the guns on mine and get the reprolabels. Anyone know the best way to paint them?

The discounting has started (http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00OJRBZS6). 25% off at the moment, but that is still AU$100.

It needs to get well below 50% before I'll bite.

Thurmus

Needs to be a bit lower for me too.

Thanks

Now down to 30% off... but with the exchange rate dropping in that time, it still equates to about AU$100. :(

griffin

Now at 50% off... which makes it about AU$70 plus shipping.

I think it might go to 70% off like the Black Leader Optimus did for TF2 if it still doesn't sell, but if the current price is acceptable, go for it, in case it does sell out.

(I really wish we could buy toys from Amazon Japan... to do a bulk buy at the same time) :(

Zommael

It's now 60% off, about $55AUD. I kind of want it just so I can say every AOE Autobot figure I have is "special" in some way, but I'm still broke atm, so I guess I'll have to wait.

griffin
20th April 2015, 05:03 PM
For a Bluray and a limited edition premium-painted Voyager toy, AU$55 is pretty good.

I might jump on that now.
Even if it goes cheaper, I won't feel bad for 60% off because that's already a huge saving... and I'd be happy for anyone who gets it cheaper.
I'd only feel bad if I wait too long and miss out, or paid full price and then saw it for 60% off.

The TF2 Leader-class Black Convoy went to 90% off I think, so it will be interesting to see if this one gets that far too before selling out.

griffin
20th April 2015, 05:06 PM
Done, and only AU$12 shipping too... coming to AU$66. I can live with that. :)

Woah, that's a great price. I've been meaning to get Hound after I fell in love with my friend's retail release. Thinking this is an excellent deal at 60% off

Yes! Only because it is listed in Amazon.jp's DVD section. The Toy section won't ship to us.

What do you use to translate the page but still have the buy buttons functional?

Thanks

I picked up mine from the post office today.
It has a lot of paint apps, like camo pattern and mud on the tyres, but from a distance it isn't too much different to the Platinum Edition. The thing that stands out most is that the weapons are black, while the Platinum Edition and regular versions had grey weapons.
Between the three, the regular version looks nicest from a distance because of its brighter green colour. The other two may well be more screen accurate, but because of that they look faded and boring.

Comparison photos later.

I probably won't get to the alt-mode until I get back.

The black weapons, the black arms, the black and white box. All small touches that improve him greatly. Can't wait to get mine.

griffin

Managed to get time to transform them tonight.

The Platinum Edition looks to have 8 "camo" paint apps, while the Amazon Japan version has about 20 that I could count.
And I love the "mud" effect on the tyres, which is actually the colour of the plastic, but they painted the centre bits grey to make it look like it is muddy.
Definitely worth the price, when you take into account the value of the Bluray.

There's an interview with Kobayashi who did that deco (and most of the Movie Advanced too) on the TakaraTomy site (http://tf.takaratomy.co.jp/toy/event/2014/05/post-41.html) (about 1/4 down the page). You can basically make out what he's saying with Google Translate.

If you have registered an account, go to your "address book" there is an option for International address and Domestic address. Only fill in the International address for your postal address and/or your shipping address (if you have a POBox address).
Domestic address is for a Japanese location, which has prefectures. The International Address page doesn't have that.

If you haven't registered an account, do that first. If you are trying to buy the item as a guest (if that is possible), I don't know the process to order it to a non-Japanese address.

Thanks Griffin.

I was following the steps through and it wouldn't let me do international. When I quit and went back, I logged in using the details I created and it then let me put an international address instead of a local.

Appreciate the help.

I have both of those and still bought it. It looks so much better than the AOE one.

Even better in real life than the photos.

I hope everyone who wanted one, already bought one as it looks like Amazon Japan finally sold out, as there are only 3rd party dealers selling it now at that link.

Most aren't yet charging the full 12,000 yen price yet (because they would have bought them at 60% off - 5,000 yen), but they are still well above that price with most at about 8,500 yen.

(it was like one of those game-shows, where you hold out for a bigger payout, but if you hold out just a little too long, you get nothing)

Deonasis
14th July 2015, 01:25 PM
I saw that. I have been watching it out of curiosity still. Having seen the three versions IRL i prefer the bright 5pk version (which itself is a low priority now $$ are going to combiner teams).

yeah they sold out a few weeks ago...

End of May I got an email with a "1 left" but it turns out it was one left of a different seller.

I logged in,
bought,
realised it wasn't amazon,
cancelled,
checked amazon a few more days all good....

then all of a sudden, completely gone :-(
