Tformers.com has some images of upcoming Platinum reissue Insecticons and Conehead sets. (http://tformers.com/platinum-edition-g1-reissues-coming-insecticons-and-conehead-seeker-trio/25427/news.html)

Sweeeet, I wants me those Coneheads.

There's something unexpected. I'd be quite happy to pick up the coneheads too, but I'm okay with my last set of reissue Insecticons.

Could Platnium become the new Encore? And if so, psst, Hasbro, a three pack of G1 Prowl, Smokescreen and Bluestreak wouldn't go astray.

hehehehehehe.....

People are excited about the possible Devestator figure for combiner wars.... the Comic solicitations i saw today show CW Superion and Menasor, and G1 Devy....

If they are bringing out some G1 sets, I wonder if the Devy will be a G1 reissue as well...

So... at retail they're twice the price that the Toys 'R' Us and TFC reissues still sell for on eBay.

The Tformers article suggests that the classic names are returning, but Hasbro only re-secured "Bombshell"... they are still not able or willing to use Shrapnel (as seen on the box photos).

I found the original posting online, and there is a reply saying these are out in the Phillipines already, along with YOTG Prime

I saw the price-tag on the front of the box, and the toystore in the background, so expected that it was a sighting somewhere... flying in under the radar.

Not surprising, being "Platinum Edition" label. Disappointing though, as I probably would have bought them just for the display box if they were US$50-60, despite appearing to be identical to their Gen1 colours.

If the Platinum Edition label is an ongoing thing, I would expect to see most of them showing up at Myer here... only to purchase on sale of course.

The insecticons look awesome. If they're on sale or there's a 20% coupon or something (if they're at TRU), I'll pick them up. If the Coneheads are similarly priced, I'll get them as well.

The Insecticon set has been found at American retail (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generation-1-1/platinum-edition-generation-1-reissue-insecticons-out-in-the-us-181833/), for US$80!!!
The Reissue Insecticons that Hasbro released about 7 years ago was only US$35, so it has more than doubled in price, mostly because it is in a bigger box.
That's going to mean about AU$150 here, if we get it here.

Also odd is that it was found at Kmart in America, which is not known for expensive exclusives as they are more of a discount store... and has gone through a lot of downsizing of stores and inventory in recent years due to almost going bankrupt during the GFC.

I have always wanted a nice minty set of insecticons but that price (even the US one) is crazy, they are small and simple. the artwork is beautiful but it's free for Hasbro most likely as it's straight from the DeNA game.

Well Trypticon breaks the pattern (although if true great, I've been waiting literally years for that) but I had a thought: All the Platinum rereleases (bar Tryp) seen/rumored are 1985 toys, so it is another 30 year celebration.

And a reminder too what the 2014 line 30th anniversary line should have/could have been.

The pattern is more what was released during the reissue line or recently enough that the mold still exists. Trypticon aside, all those listed figures were re-issued in the last decade and Trypticon was used to make Gigastorm for Beast Wars II, without most of his accessories, so he should be intact as well. Platinum figures are low cost(no retools or figures whose mold need maintence), high priced figures released to drain money out of a nostalgic and monied Chinese fanbase(and anyone else whose cashed up and interested).

Paulbot
15th January 2015, 07:21 AM
Oh absolutely. I find it odd to see people excited about Blaster who's been released multiple times recently. But of the recent rereleases it's 1985 figures that are the ones being used (no Ratchet, Starscream, Trailbreaker, Soundwave, Prowl, Seacons, etc)

Trypticon is the odd one out, no recent reissue or mold use and not a 85 toy

Dirge and Ramjet don't need safety modifications, since neither of them have projectile missiles. And I would expect Thrust to hopefully have original length missiles, but with weakened launchers, which is actually what the original G1 launchers were like. It's only the Japanese reissues from 2000 onwards that had strengthened launchers to let them fly, but that's because Takara(TOMY) markets their reissues directly at mature collectors (Ages 15+). But while a lot of the early Hasbro reissues had lengthened missiles, Hasbro did eventually... after a long time... figure out that they could just keep the missiles at their original lengths and just neuter the launchers! Hasbro reissues for toys like Prowl, Silverstreak, Hoist etc. have original length missiles but their launchers are about as useful as the second 'r' in "February." :p

The wheel can be seen in the pictures at Seibertron, it's a standard Seeker wheel. They are probably not a choking hazzard since there are Lego pieces of as similar size. The nosecone on my set of Encore Seekers is rubber, I don't have an actual G1 Seeker.

That's double the cost of the TFC Insecticons at imported price! (i.e. what you would find in local Australian specialty import stores where prices are inflated due to import tax, duties, levies etc.). Or for those of us who purchased the TFC reissue directly from Japan, it's almost quadruple the original Japanese RRP (3500JPY)!

as the others are a lot more sensibly priced.
Thank goodness!

This doesn't bode well for the 2nd Year Decepticon jet reissues. :(

or the Dinobot reissues due later in the year.
I have never owned the original G1 insecticons, ever. I've seen plenty of them in bins at toy fairs. I think I'd be willing to pay about $60 for this set. they are small, simple, inarticulate, and apart from the big shiny box and energon cubes they aren't really anything special.

if the insecticons are priced at $150.... it makes me wonder how hard they'll try and stooge us for the coneheads?

of course they're aware they'll be in a lot more demand!

Ah what a shame. I was willing to pump my money into the economy and purchase them here but $150 is too steep. I just placed an order at RK for the Insecticons and Coneheads.

Order of toy characters in the box from left to right: Dirge, Ramjet, Thrust.
Order of toy characters on box art: Dirge, Thrust, Ramjet.

Sheesh Hasbro.

Mine was double taped and resealed on one side of the box.

I'll scout these overseas and see if they're good first before I buy any.... wonder why the insecticons are always so priced steeply.... I do wish they reissue the deluxe ones as well, but I think legal issues and mould issues would be a problem... oh well just bring on the Dinobots! and there better be five of them...

If you find the set cheaper, would appreciate a set too if there's still space in your luggage:) If not, all good :D

Why? It still comes from the factory. They had to do this with the first run of Fort Max reissues due to leaving stuff out of the box. I'd prefer them to recheck to make sure so I don't have to send it back to the seller for a refund/exchange. It's only tape IMO and not like some random dude opened it up for a play before sending it to you. It's gonna dry up and peel off eventually anyway.

i'm a misb collector... i'm not likely to open 99% of my toys, so a toy being sealed is important to me. factory double taping is another issue... if they are all like that, fine. but how do you know in this instance that's the case?

and tape is important IMO... try buying vintage G1 toys, misb vs mib... there's a huge difference in price between the two.

 But if you're purchasing off the primary market (preorder, off the shelf) it doesn’t (shouldn’t) make any difference if the toy is single or double taped, should it? As I understand it, it should only make a difference if you’re purchasing toys off the secondary market at inflated prices.

e.g. In 1998 I acquired a second Transmetal Optimus Primal from the U.S. (less purple tinge in the chrome compared to the standard AU release) and have never opened this toy. A few years ago the sticky tape lost its stickiness, so I guess that this toy is technically no longer sealed. But... it doesn't affect the price that I paid for it back in '98. It might make it an issue if I were an MISB collector looking for a sealed version of this toy. Unless you're being pre-emptively concerned about sealed collectors hunting this toy down on the secondary market in a year's time or so. :o

P.S.: Are there any places to order the 2nd year Jets at a decent price without needing PayPal? (that's why I don't use RK) Cheers.

P.P.S.: Is it confirmed that $150 is also the price for the Jets or just the Insecticons? Cos if so... that's $50 per Jet, which is actually not too bad considering that they originally sold for approx. $25 in 1985. :o I can totally understand it being way too much for the Insecticons though.

it matters depending on who re-taped the box. if it was the factory... it's not a problem. if it's the retailer/online store... then it is an issue for me.

i'm not concerned by other collectors at all.... I just want my collection to be sealed, not re-sealed.

you should just sign up for paypal dude... why don't you use it?

not sure what the retail is for the jets yet, but it'll cost $120aud shipped from RK at the moment.

You can use paypal without needing an account, I believe.

When you get to the paypal window, there should be an option to pay direct from a credit card. In this case, paypal basically works as the merchant authorising and securing the transaction.

Oh it matters alright. Have you ever asked yourself WHY a misb toy sells for way more than an perfectly good mib toy that has no wear, no stickers applied, oodles of photos to confirm this, and factory tight joints? It's not just because people worry about it not being perfect it's because of all the OCD collectors out there willing to pay a premium, even a ridiculously sized one, for a mint clean toy. I'm not poking fun at people with OCD, I'm one of them. The idea that some worker in sweatshop conditions might forget to wash their hands, it keeps us up at night. Have you ever noticed how many people go to the urinal and don't wash their hands? Or even worse?

If it's factory sealed, we can maintain the delusion that it is unsoiled by human hands and totally clean. There are so many cool mib g1 toys there that I pass on because it's not sealed and might have been drooled over or soiled by some little kid,and I can totally emphasise with the frustration of having a resealed one. It may be crazy, but I understand it at least. Fortunately I'm not so far gone that I still buy loose ones from collectors :)

That's the advantage with buying toys off store shelves; you can inspect the condition of the packaging for yourself IRL. And I've never heard of double-taped toys being sold in regular brick 'n' mortar stores (except for some Revenge of the Fallen carded figures from China). Even if the toy works out to be a bit more expensive here, you do have the added luxury of first hand inspection.

Anyone noticed Ramjet & Dirge are missing some of their stickers on the box photo? Namely, their chest plate & perhaps the air intake.
