View Full Version : Animated Shockwave in packaging.

As some thought, the Shockwave and Longarm toys in Animated (seen at SDCC presentation) are indeed the same toy. The packaging proudly promotes a toy with 4 modes, even if the two robot modes are not too different from each other (nor are the two alt-modes either).

At least we have another double-spy toy to go with Punch and Doubledealer.

Cannot wait to get this figure.

So we now have a triple changer and a "quadriple" changer in the Animated line, cmon Hasbro let's see a Quintesson! :p

It reminds me of Big Convoys Mammoth canon mode.

It took a bit of searching but I finally found it...

I'm still not convinced...

What triple changer are we getting/have we got?

I'm undecided on Shockwave/Longarm. Neither robot mode really hits the spot and the walking crane thing is really lame. But then, he's Shockwave...

Blitzwing of course (http://www.tfw2005.com/resources/animated-decepticons-191/blitzwing-1431/)

too bad his alt modes come out 2nd best behind his bot mode... :(

Stompy

Very nice. Especially Shockwave's bot and alt. Those spindly fingers and antennae are fantastic. Not too keen on Longarm. Bot mode looks ok but the alt mode is a bit forced.

Nice idea though. Has there ever been a figure that has more than one bot form?

EDIT: Whoops. Nevermind. Griffin already mentioned Punch and Doubledealer.

Im thinking this would probably be repainted in g1 colours, unless they (hasbro) do a totally obscure and unrelated one.
Still, I do like these colours and don't think I can wait. Im pretty sure someone will have a video review soon.....

Without trying to be too anal about this
QuadrUple Changer.

looks alright I think. I was hoping that the toy would be able to change robot modes like that. The vehicel mode would have suited me fine if they both shred it, but the slight changes make it a little sweeter methinks.

Although calling it a quadruple changer is pushing it somewhat...

4th September 2008, 09:47 AM
Now that I've seen the pics of all 4 modes, I agree with you Tetsuwan 4 modes is kinda pushing it considering it's really only 2 modes with slight variation to make the other 2 modes.

Once Shockwave is finally seen by the Autobot forces it cant take them more than 3 seconds to realise it's Longarm, unless of course the Autobots have that problem where a pair of glasses throws them off from telling that Clark Kent and Superman are one and the same...

:p

While 2 cool alt modes would have been even all the more awesome, I'm quite excited simply about the 2 robot modes. It's a rare gimmick and I'm glad they made the effort to make good differentiations there.

That is so awesome. This is the one upcoming toy I (metaphorically) can't wait for. I'm not convinced that they've transformed the heads correctly though - Shockwave's has elements of Longarm Prime and vice versa.

This seems like one extremely ambitious figure in that the designers were attempting to squeeze 4 modes into 1 TF.

You can understand why they're reluctant to attempt something like a gestalt. I mean, Blitzwing ain't that bad in all 3 of his modes but 4 modes out of Shockwave? It's a bit of a stretch...

i really like the look of this toy but the head of longarm is a bit weird

GoktimusPrime

It's a bit of a stretch to call the Autobot and Decepticon robot modes as true separate modes though... they're really just variant transformations of the same robot mode. Still, it's a much better secret identity than Clark Kent/Superman - or the worst secret ID of them all - Prince Adam/He-Man!! ;)

The Secret Identity thing for Animated Shockwave works much, much better in the cartoon character model than the toy.

That's true - but I think the toy is a good facsimile all things considered.

All they need to do is get the shoulders and arms right. They don't look too half bad

He looks about as well disgiused as Prince Adam to me. :D

Secret Identity toys always look so implausible like Punch and Punch facing Backwards, this is where Pretenders should have been used. Autobots with Decepticon shell's and a Decepticon with Autobot shell, that might actualy work.

Somehow shockwave's face looks funny.. The purple dot on the black face he had as a G1 figure didn't look so weird as a red dot on a black face with grey head.. Reminds me of an indian bindi pple stick in the centre of the head.. :p

I think Doubledealer works the best in terms of being a double-agent w/ a secret identity. His Autobot and Decepticon robot modes look substantially different enough. Punch/Counterpunch works pretty good so long as nobody's ever standing behind him! ;D

Both still infinitely better than Prince Adam/He-Man who still looks the same when you're standing right in front of him! As for Clark Kent/Superman... it's not as if griffin suddenly looks unrecognisable to me when he's not wearing glasses! Heck, you were without your glasses in your Captain Global cosplay and I still recognised you! (in fact, aren't you without your glasses in all your cosplays?). ;p

Yeah but Prince Adam has no tan, lighter hair and wears pink, this new If this new Shockwave were a cosplayer the only differences would be a slightly different mask, gloves and shoes. Structure wise he's just as simply disguised as Prince Adam. I dont see how any robot with presumably superior optical abbilities could not know they were one in the same. To me all 3 are just as bad as each other. You right about Double Dealer though, his disguise works as he changes form completely.

GoktimusPrime
9th September 2008, 11:51 PM
I suppose the disguise worked better in the show because he only revealed himself in a close-up facial screen shot. :p The disguise works so long as you don't look below his neck. ;)

Yeah but Prince Adam has no tan, lighter hair and wears pink,
Having a different skin tone/colour has certainly worked in making Michael Jackson look like an entirely different person (although he's also completely altered his facial structure too). Seriously, if I'd never heard of or seen Michael Jackson before and someone showed me these images below, I would not know that they're the same person!

I agree, his my favourite reviewer.
I cant stand some the others who are just plain goofy or have
a negative attitude about basically every tf they review (unmentionables).

Wondering though if I should get this guy or wait to see if he has a g1 redeco, either one seems good though.

I'm at work atm so I can't view YouTube...
My main gripe with most reviewers is that they don't actually review (http://www.lc.unsw.edu.au/onlib/critrev.html). (-_-)
I don't care if it's a positive or negative review... but most reviews just aren't.

There's a new reviewer on YouTube who's just started doing video reviews and has asked me to watch them and give him feedback. His first review was nothing more than an extended description of the toy and its transformation - like a video instruction booklet. He failed to actually appraise the toy in a critical and analytical fashion! *sigh*

I agree, his my favourite reviewer.

+2, although I was initially surprised to see the length of it (9:38) whereas one of my favorite aspects of him is how short and sweet his reviews are, without the waffling. Nonetheless, I didn't get bored. He had additional announcements at the end which can be ignored.

If you don't feel like watching a 10 minute review, there's also this (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/animated-8/transformers-animated-shockwave-review-and-images-165763/) :)

IM honest O, It just doesn't feel as though this figure does Shockwave justice. It seems as though after finally regaining the trademark for his name in 2005 (a Cyb Minicon repaint), it's as though they've been wanting to produce a new Shockwave figure that's a throwback to his G1 self.

I'm sorry but this Animated Figure just doesn't feel like Shockwave to me :(. Yes he's got the one-eye & he communicates with Megs from Cybertron but that's about it.

I really can't see myself acquiring Animated Shockwave - he just isn't the figure/character he could have been...

& then there's this guy (http://plasticcrack.net/) who luvs Shockwave but doesn't feel Animated Shockwave in any way, shape or form... (http://plasticcrack.net/archives/2008/09/im_crying_inside)
