Combiner Wars toy fan-vote has started

I just went on my ipad and noticed that the transformers app has change to combiner wars

The voting options so far are faction and torso (which i found a image that look like hot spot shaped like pyro with a ladder) first limb,second limb and third limb so far and by the looks of it you can only vote of moulds they currently have

Sure has! - Downloaded the App an hour and a bit ago after seeing the news on Twitter. :)

The trivia-based missions required to earn points in order to vote on each of the 4 limbs, torso and weapon are reasonably entertaining with only 1 or 2 requiring knowledge from the comics but you're often assisted by a visual element (Hint) anyway. ;)

The 5 Alt modes I chose (Noting the somewhat lack of choices available :o) to vote for were:

Torso: Truck
Weapon: Motorcycle
Limb 1: Helicopter
Limb 2: Jet
Limb 3: Truck
Limb 4: Car

Because the nominated Alt modes all seem to be based upon pre-existing vehicular molds, it lead me to come to the following notion as to what to vote for.

What if we weren't able to have an All-Fembot combiner team, what's the next best step? - What about a female LEAD combiner team? :D

You raised a very interesting point, Griffin, in the main thread (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=454057#post454057) dealing with this topic - How would a "Mixed Gender" team be handled and would the combined personality be Male, Female, both or neither? :o

This could certainly throw up some interesting narrative surrounding the characters, the team and how they handle things; Whether there's conflict resulting from the situation or whether there's harmony owing to it being the ideal scenario to combat mental instability? - I'll leave that up to more creative and informed minds than my own. :p


Anyway.

When choosing the Torso, it came to me whilst looking at the 3rd choice of a Truck and Motorcycle: "What if the Truck/Torso/Leader were Strika (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Strika_%28BM%29) and the Weapon Thrust (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Thrust_%28BM%29)?...". :eek:

What if we could have a nod to Beast Machines, with updates to some of the longest requested fan favourite characters from that series (Whom doesn't hold the greatest amount of popularity with the greater fandom and doesn't have a lot to draw from), have a team with a varied array of Alt modes AND add/return (;)) another Fembot to our shelves? - Especially one that is in a Leadership role? :cool:

Based on that logic, I chose the following arrangement:

Now, some will probably baulk at Scavenger's inclusion for 1 or 2 (Or both) reasons: He's neither a General nor is he a car - For that matter, some may also be adverse to Obsidian only being a "Single-rotor" helicopter and not a VTOL aircraft, as well as Blastcharge unlikely to be having his triple-barrelled missile launching chest (Not to mention now being a Pickup Truck).

I chose Scavenger because he had an interesting colour scheme, is otherwise obscure and (I think) would fit as a small, swift scout/recon character/vehicle owing to his name - Not to mention that Mirage (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Mirage_(BM)), as a name, is likely to be relegated to his G1-character self. :)

Unless brand new molds are to be designed/engineered for this "Fan-Built" combiner team, and let's face it that all evidence is suggesting to the contrary, I don't think Obsidian's shift from one type of aircraft to a slightly differing one is too much of a stretch and Blastcharge could simply receive a remolded chest (If that'd work based on the pre-existing engineering) to homage his memorable triple-barrelled distinctiveness. ;)

Otherwise I think all my choices would fit reasonably cohesively; One BIG whack of a nod to Beast Machines, some of its more memorable characters, varied Alt modes and another Fembot of whom is the team leader - But what to call the team and what about its combined form's name?... :eek:

Might I propose:

The Decepticon: "Vehicons" Combiner Team!

Lead by the Heavy-Artillery Commander: Strika and comprised of Master Strategist: Obsidian, Aerial Specialist: Jetstorm, All-Terrain Combat Expert: Blastcharge & Chief Intelligence Officer: Scavenger.

These 5 long lost Cybertronian Generals of War have returned from the annals of history and deep space; re-enlisting and undergoing the Combiner-Tech upgrade procedure, they merge to form: VEHICRON - Combiner Team Warlord of The Decepticons!


Now I realise that this is entirely unlikely to ever actually manifest, as these figures will almost certainly end up being Brand New characters much like Windblade was, but that's my justification for the votes I cast and besides - We can all dream can't we? ;):cool::D

Agreed on the HotSpot looking nice. The little Grove figure I've seen also looks good, he seems to be a gun rather than a limb on Defensor. If that is the case, unlike with Superion (A Helicopter) and Menasor (A PickUp Truck) I'm supportive of them swapping out an original limb member as it makes sense in Defensor's case. Groove was always a terrible limb for Defensor, replacing him with something like a Prison Van would make the figure look a lot more in proportion.

Think I'll skip voting as if it is going to be same old, same old I probably won't end up purchasing that combiner anyways. Happy enough with my Superion.

I voted Autobot, Truck Torso, Motorcycle Weapon and 4 cars for the limbs. Alot of people appear to be quite responsive to the fact that the pictures supplied while voting are of pre-existing moulds, I took that simply as placeholders for future designs. Hasbro are not going to give that much away this early on. I feel very confident were are going to see original designs (like Windblade) for our future Fembiner (fingers crossed).

I get the feeling since it's being made using existing molds (from the look of things) that we won't get to chose gender since the molds are all somewhat masculine.

I mostly didn't want to chose the Orange colour scheme in case one of the limbs was a helicopter since that's pretty much Alpha Bravo's colour scheme. But t yeah it would work better for a rust group :/

Everything this guy said except I went for Leader personality. Don't feel like having the only female combiner potentially end up ala dinobots mentality is a good idea. Plus maybe it'll be Windblade as the centre piece of the group so Leader seems like a good choice there.

I reckon if they had given the option of gender when first asking whether Autobot or Decepticon more people would have cited Decepticin. There are more Con Gestalts than Bot ones, but there is a distinct lack of female Cons currently and a team of them would have been awesome!

Apparently another piece of the bio puzzle has been released by Hasbro, in that the winning combiner has Galvatronus as its nemesis (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generations-classics-44/fan-built-combiner-rival-is-galvatronus-182478/).
That might help sell the Cyclonus toy a little more when this gets fully announced at SDCC in July.

This is my concern also, that they'll simply shoe-horn existing big/known names like Arcee, Windblade & Chromia into the combiner - I want ALL NEW characters or at least Fembot names that've not been used yet. :(

The fan-vote combiner Victorion might be a ToysRUs exclusive in America, according to a tweet by TRU (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/1042605-victorion-teased-tru-twitter-page.html), which has them revealing character bio info later this week... and they'd only be promoting a toy they are releasing.

Victorion was suspected to be an exclusive somewhere, and after Quickslinger and BrakeNeck were internet exclusives to multiple stores, this one could be the same.

No idea if it will come here though, but there has been more media exposure for this fan-vote toy than those two limbs, so the combiner could show up here.
And if it is a TRU exclusive, it is likely to be around the time of the SDCC in July, as they like to pre-sell their big exclusives at that event.

Hope she isn't too hard to source. Showed my daughter the pictures and got a "she is sooo cool!" response. So she'll be an instant buy for us!

Curious to see what vehicles she is made up of.. kind of looks like 1/2 planes and 1/2 cars in the images on the article paulbot posted.

2 helicopters and 2 cars, with a rescue-truck and motorcycle torso pair apparently.

I sort of would have liked one helicopter and one plane myself, and preferably the Off-Road or Rook molds for one of the ground-mode limb bots.

It's like the regular Combiner Wars toys. The body will be based on Hot Spot and Groove. The helicopter limbs based on Alpha Bravo/Blades. The two sportscar limbs to be determined.

The body options were the ones we've seen, jet and plane (Superion) truck and car (Menasor) and rescue truck and motorbike (Defensor)... In other words, the Hasbro voyager with legend combos

The Defensor option won the vote....

The comic book art was quite stylised. This is likely more accurate to what the actual toy will look like.

Pretty sure I didn't vote for those colours but it's growing on me.
They do need more paint apps though. The occasional touch of silver isn't enough to distract from that eye-melting red/teal combo.

I wouldn't mind those colours on one of them, but seeing them on all of them just makes them look massively bland. :/ Yeah, I realise that Devastator* similarly has a uniform colour scheme, but there's a historic precedent for that (and as I've mentioned in each of my CW Constructicon reviews, they are "G1 accurately bland" in colour ;)). The majority of gestalts are diverse in colour. One thing that I felt that ROTF Devastator had going for him was better colour diversity (and the Legends Class toys were actually pretty decent). I completely skipped that G1 coloured green ROTF Devastator.
