Random thought: I work in a job where I observe someone typing dictated notes during meetings. The lack of touch-typing ability is just so goddamn painful to watch and I wish this stuff was mandatory in schools. I’ve yet to see someone do a good job typing with two fingers.

I love discovering the little tidbits of background information from old toys I used to have.

For example my brother and I used to love playing with a toy which consisted of two planes merging to form a robot. We never knew the background of the toy, but a few years ago I was randomly reading about the history of Power Rangers and how it was dubbed from the Super Sentai series. Lo and behold, I discovered the 8th Super Sentai series called Choudenshi Bioman (from 1984) and that the mecha which featured in this series was the very toy we played with!

Just last night, I was reading about the “Unseen” Mechwarrior designs and came across a design which looked very similar to a small diecast robot toy I used to play with. After further digging around I found out I was playing with a figure from the Fang of the Sun Dougram anime (from 1981).

Sadly I don’t have any of these toys anymore but it’s cool to finally discover the story behind them and that they were actually licensed merchandise, not just some random cheap generic toy.

No thats not the castle. It is very similar. There was no black coffin, there were brown wooden doors that opened up in the centre. They had "wood panelling" feature. The two ledges had holes(gaps) behind them (here they have walls) and there are no windows up top.

I can see wooden doors underneath the coffin. Was there a running change? Or knock off?

I'll admit it, I was never into Super Naturals. My childhood was dominated by Transformers and I remember that a lot, but Super Naturals was something that I barely paid attention to. I bought just one of those toys and played with it for about 2 years before getting sick of it. Not like buying most Transformers and playing with them for 30+ years and never getting sick of them. ;)

But yeah, I'll openly confess that I am by nooo means any kind of expert on Supernaturals. :p As I said, I'm just working off fleeting peripheral memories from the 80s.

The thing that really irks me about the whitewashing in Ghost in the Shell is how they deliberately drew attention to it. Like they actually made it part of the freakin' story. When I watched the movie, I made the conscious decision to ignore the politics behind the movie and try to appreciate the movie on its own merits, but instead the film threw the politics into my face, making it impossible for me to ignore. GAH!

Things like whitewashing and other similar equivalents - regardless of what we think about it - is easier to overlook when the story doesn't make it an issue.
e.g. Katniss Everdeen was whitewashed in the Hunger Games films, but the films never make it an issue. Basically Katniss is white in the cinematic Hunger Games universe, but dark-skinned in the original book continuity.
Kusanagi is a Japanese in the original manga and anime continuities of GitS, but Japanese... in a Caucasian shell... in the cinematic... GAH!! This did not need to be an issue! Wannna make her White? Just make her White and, as they say in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, GET ON WITH IT! :p

As I am always stuck in the office with this job I don't get a chance to pop into a TAB. Now I am just as happy to watch it on TV, however I am always saddened when a horse goes down. It is the nature of the sport albeit a brutal one.

Since I own horses, I'll weigh in for my own thoughts on this one.

Horses are living breathing animals, true. And you form a special bond with them which is unlike any other, which I didn't understand until I owned some.

At the end of the day, the fact is though that horses are bred for this sort of thing, right or wrong. Horses have been, for a VERY VERY long time now, tamed and bred and crossbred by humans for modes of transport, heavy lifting, and recreational use from simple trail rides to horse racing. Accidents can happen at any time, its just these ones are front and center, in the limelight, for everyone to see. You could be having a simple trail ride, and your horse could get spooked by a rabbit darting out in front of it, and a similar injury could happen. Is there going to be a massive uproar against riding horses altogether as a result?

Similarly, jockeys who ride these powerful animals always ride knowing that there is an incredible risk on their lives to do so. They wear next to nothing (oweing to weight to get the maximum performance out of a horse) and the slightest nudge or bump or trip could send them off to hospital with major injuries or worse.

Other animals are similarly bred; dogs for example are bred for racing (greyhounds), working (kelpies, sheepdogs), aghility, showing.... the list goes on.

If you own an animal, then you do everything you can for that animal if you're a responsible animal owner, and the reaction of the poor horses owner showed they truly did care. But horse injuries when they happen are VERY hard to recover from, and the speeds these animals do often makes them even worse. A horse relies on its legs and euthanasing a horse is a tough decision, but if a horse cannot stand or walk properly they are likely to become depressed, miserable and/or injure itself even worse (as they sometimes lay down to sleep or roll)

I've seen a lot of horses up close and in action and when they are racing, jumping, etc you can SEE they are truly enjoying it, and why not, going fast is FUN for both horse and rider most of the time. Plus years of breeding and genetics has them 'built' this way. To put them sitting in a paddock eating grass can sometimes actually depress a horse more because they aren't doing what they instinctively want to do, which is RUN, and run FAST.

Yes there will always be those who treat horses, or any animals, poorly. Yes, accidents will happen. But also remember that for some jockeys, trainers and horses, this is what they love to do and they do it right and for the right reasons, not greed or cruelty.

For what its worth, we go to watch the horses run at these events, and accidents are very few and far between for both horse and rider. We place $1 each way bets only purely for a bit of fun. We've also been to eventing (which is a combination of Dressage, Cross Country and Showjumping), showjumping only events, trots, and injuries are very rare.

As long as we have animals as companions, people are going to want to show them off, and compete in a whole range of sports, and we have been breeding animals and 'building' them specifically for roles that suit humans being at the top of the food chain. There will always be a dark seedy underside (such is human nature) and it doesn't make it right, and when accidents happen at very public events it brings it into everyone's minds as really bad, however there for all the terrible things that happen there are plenty of positives; horses loving what they are bred for, trainers enjoying seeing these animals run, jockeys feeling the wind in their hair.

The issue I have is that these horses are pushed to their physical limits, greatly increasing the risk and severity of serious injury. A nice calm horse ride cannot be compared to a race for that reason. Also while not all, a large portion of owners of race horses view the animals as investments. And what does any sensible person do when an investment stops giving a reasonable return? You get rid of it.

I have no doubt that race horses love to race. It’s what they are bred to do. But the horse also does not understand the risks involved, nor the consequences should there be an incident. These animals trust their trainers/owners. And there are far too many examples in the racing industry of that trust being abused. All for money.

Confession: gonna go off on a complete tangent here. :)

Plus years of breeding and genetics has them 'built' this way. To put them sitting in a paddock eating grass can sometimes actually depress a horse more because they aren't doing what they instinctively want to do, which is RUN, and run FAST.
If by "years" you mean "millennia," then yes, you're absolutely right. Horses were first domesticated by humans on the Eurasian steppes about 5500 years ago. And yes, there is definitely a bond between humans and horses. I don't own any animals, but scientifically speaking all domesticated animals have some genetically in built propensity to... well... relate to humans.

And this is no accident. Ever wondered why only some animals like dogs, cats, horses, cows, sheep etc. have been domesticated, while others like zebras, lions, tigers etc. remain wild? Even wild animals that have been born and raised in captivity can still easily turn wild. The truth is that they've always been wild. Again, no accident.

When humans first figured out how to domesticate animals, one of the single biggest factors that they had to consider was the animal's temperament. One reason why horses have been domesticated but zebras haven't is partially due to temperament (the other being that zebras aren't physically capable of load-bearing like horses can). Zebras are really aggressive and hostile pricks. Far different from their tame equine cousins. And they have to be, considering that zebras share habitats with big hunting animals like jackals, lions, leopards etc. - they evolved a mean streak as a behavioural means of defence. Horses can gallop away from predators, but zebras are more likely to be outrun by things like freakin' cheetahs, so they also needed to be prepared to kick the crap out of anything that comes near them.

So you take this already more amicable temperament in certain animals. Humans then take them and take care of them. Provide food, shelter etc. - a bond forms. The animal learns to trust the human and soon forms a form of mutual relationship. Thus the animal has become a member of the household, and the Latin word for house is domus (as in the notorious Monty Python line, "Romani Ite Domum" ("Romans go home")), and thus anything that is of the house is domesticus. The household animal is now domesticated.

But that's not all! Some animals may have actually initiated domestication with humans! Yeah. Instead of humans seeking out these animals, some animals came and sought humans out! 2 common examples: dogs and cats. It's believed that the earliest ancestor of the domesticated dog (which would've been more wolf-like) approached human settlements and started defending those humans from things like other animals. The humans started rewarding them with food and shelter, and thus dog became man's best friend. Early ancestors of the domesticated cat did something similar; and for some odd reasons, in two different places independently of each other -- in the Middle East and China. Although I think modern domesticated cats are descendant from the ones that were domesticated in the Middle East. Anyway, these early felines, similar to their canine brethren, approached humans and started killing off vermin like rats, who were eating away at the humans' stored food supplies. And just as with dogs, humans rewarded the cats with food, shelter and uploading videos.

There are 14,200 year old graves that show humans buried alongside dogs. Cats were domesticated about roughly 8000 years ago, and we know that Ancient civilisations like Egypt even started making cat memes^worshipping them. Domestication of animals was a big deal and something that seriously allowed societies to evolve into civilisations. Domesticating livestock meant that we could farm our meat and dairy and that we didn't have to waste time and resources hunting and gathering all the time; agricultural upgrade! Domestication of other animals again freed us to develop more things -- we were wasting as much time chasing rats or fleeing from predators. We had cats to chase away our pests and dogs to protect us now. And we even formed an alliance with dogs as pack hunters.

Contrast this with societies that didn't do this, like Australia. Australians never fully domesticated any animals, and this was really because there are no native animals here that have the appropriate traits for domestication. The closest they came to was the semi-domestication of the dingo. And this was because dingoes are descendant from already previously domesticated stone-age dogs who'd migrated to the Australian continent, but then they evolved without human companionship and became feral. But the Indigenous Australians did occasionally use dingoes as cooperative hunters and watchdogs, but they were never truly domesticated.

10 Peach and 10 Boss?

I can understand network 10 wanting to follow the example of 7 and 9 by having names to their secondary channels, but Peach and Boss?

And another Food Network? As if the fattest country on the planet needs one dedicated food channel... but two? (network 7 are starting a food channel on December 1st, and SBS already have one)

Being one who doesn't have pay TV, and doesn't see the need for it... having duplicate or low-demand(?) channels is something that is hard to understand, when I could happily have a dedicated movie, cartoon or sports channel on free-to-air.

Just come back from a VERY busy weekend with my 2 yo son.

First was the Credit Union Christmas Pageant in RAdelaide; found a nice shady spot to stay out of the hot sun. Only issue which is ALWAYS the way is that Santa Claus (which ALL the kiddies want to see) is stuck at the very end, by which stage all the waiting kids have lost attention and focus and started getting cranky.

Sunday we went to an agricultural show with my son and his shetland pony. He's been riding in the 'tiny tots' shows. Entered 9 events: Best Led Rider and Pony combo (1st), Best Walked Pony (4th, mainly my fault, shoulda been more), Shortest Pony (1st), Fattest Pony (2nd, though he has been on a diet after getting colic recently), Cutest Pony (1st), Longest Tail (3rd, we were robbed of this one), Happiest Combination (gave everyone 1st, no biggie), Most Colourful Pony (3rd, shoulda been at LEAST second but have a feeling the judges were trying to share the ribbons around), and Fancy Dress (1st)

The missus has been an excellent rider and always been into horses (which is why I'm into them now) and our son DEFINITELY has her genetics in that department, he's a natural!

Have seen some half-transformed Movie Masterpiece (MPM) 'bots on display at ZiNG. It seems a lot of their high-end, in-store items are on display out of the packaging.

You purchased what you thought was a brand new item. Therefore, you are well within your rights to return the item. According to the Australian Consumer Law (https://www.accc.gov.au/business/treating-customers-fairly/consumers-rights-obligations#consumer-guarantees-applying-to-goods), goods must be "of acceptable quality - the goods must be safe, lasting, have no faults, look acceptable and do all the things someone would normally expect them to do".

When I browsed the pop figures (looking for something different) she wanted to leave for lunch, I suspect that there were more of the figures on the shelves and she didnt want to be there in case I found another one. Will be going back to the store and asking for another one, see what happens.

Something like that happened to me years ago (another store - not ZiNG but I won't mention the name) when I was looking for a sealed copy of a game. The one I had in-hand had been opened, without shrink wrap. The staff member I spoke to instantly claimed it was the 'last one'. I looked a bit more carefully and there was a stack of sealed copies still on the shelf, hidden away.

I recently binge watched a Swedish TV scifi drama series and I've got Swedish on the brain. :) On one hand it's funny to listen to a language that, to me, sounds like every word has jumped out of an Ikea catalogue (:D), but there are also elements that I find quite fascinating. Swedish is of course a Germanic language like English, but it's a North Germanic language whereas English is West Germanic. There are striking similarities with English yet it's still incredibly different, unlike comparing English with other West Germanic languages like German, Dutch, Frisian etc. where there are striking similarities everywhere. Swedish has isolated "pockets" of similarity but then it's still mostly different, at least lexically speaking. Grammatically it's still quite similar to English (not surprising given our Germanic grammar engine).

Swedish is a direct descendant of Old Norse whereas English is descendant from Old English but has been greatly influenced by Old Norse thanks to the Vikings. It's also really interesting listening to a tonal European language. Tonality is something that we more commonly hear in some East Asian languages like Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Lao, Hmong etc. Tonality does exist in languages outside of this region but it doesn't seem to be as prevalent.

English doesn't have tone but it does have stress, and there are isolated examples of where a shift in stress can change the meaning of a word, usually between its declension.
e.g.
subject (n.) VS subject (v.)
"Please don't subject the students with meaningless work in this subject."
Notice the difference in where the stress falls in the word "subject" in the first and second instance. We place the emphasis on the first syllable when it's a verb but then shift that stress to the second syllable when it's a noun. Tone doesn't matter so much in English but stress does. This is something that native speakers of unstressed languages (e.g. Japanese) can have difficulty with, and similarly when English speakers learn an unstressed. As a Japanese teacher in Australia I'm frequently hearing Anglophones stress out their pronunciation when speaking Japanese when they really shouldn't - this tends to happen with beginning students; my more experienced students have learnt to reduce or eliminate their verbal stress when switching to speaking Japanese (well, most of them :p). I'm sure that those of you who are teaching English in Japan must experience the reverse.

Anyway, here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOgqxHPxuko) is a video of Swedish actress Lisette Pagler. It's a really interesting language to listen to! :D And it's given me a better idea on how to hopefully more accurately pronounce the name of stuff at Ikea. :p ;)

Does anyone know why Kmart and Woolies don't sell DVDs anymore?

For Kmart it was about making space for other products.

I sorta remember the news that Kmart would stop selling discs last year. I don't remember Woolworths making an announcement...

Or in business terms, the allocated selling floor space was not bringing in the sales revenue anticipated.
We have therefore decided to cease stocking DVD's CD's & BR's from the business and replace them with product that will generate increased profit margins.

Good - my nearest Coles MASSIVELY over-stocked on Easter chocolates, to the point of needing to discount them to 90% off after just three days after Easter (yesterday).

Stores generally go 50% off after Easter, and maybe discount more a couple weeks later if anything is left.

If not, then why not?Well, Scott Morrison was a little bit. He passed a bill back in January that banned cosmetic testing on lab animals, so apparently they've done their bit now (https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/may/09/scott-morrison-claims-animal-testing-bill-is-action-on-extinction-crisis).

Honestly though, for people who are aware of it then it's not really news, and for people who won't believe it nothing is going to convince them anyway (https://twitter.com/rubenbolling/status/870289948729061377).
For me personally, I'm actually finding it all a bit hard to process...just the sheer scale of how ****ed we are at this point, and of how little hope there is of doing anything meaningful about it let alone in the very very narrow window of time in which there is to do so before it's Bye Bye Livable Planet Time, and of how drastic the lifestyle changes we'd need to make to do so are (I mean, I like cheese and dairy and meat and coffee :( )...I Can't Deal With That Now[/Ultra Magnus].

Coincidentally, I'm more of an Independent voter myself - Craig Garland (https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/meet-craig-garland-the-eccentric-fisherman-who-could-decide-the-braddon-byelection-20180718-p4zs6b.html) probably has my vote this time, but I've got a lot of time for Andrew Wilkie and even Jacqui Lambie over the current-day Greens.

Yes can connect to the internet. Its the white fttc squareish one. Telstra is the provider. I unplugged the ethernet cables so the telstra modem and phone were the only thing connected to the nbn mobem, it flashed. Someone said on here earlier someone might be hacking as discord was telling me i was from mandurah. Just thinking two plus two.

Would the home phone make it flash?

Unsure about the blinking light. If you log in to your modem's control panel (192.168.0.1), you should be able to see which devices are connected to the modem/your network.

The location in Discord not matching your exact location doesn't necessarily mean the connection has been compromised. Discord is probably showing the location based on IP address.

Something random, for the serious trekkie fans...

Watching an episode of Jake & the Fatman on TV today (episode 7 from 1987 (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0614168/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast)), had two actors who would later be in two different Star Trek shows (Dwight Shultz as Reg Barclay and Tim Russ as Tuvok), and would eventually be starring in the same episode again some 18 year later (1995 with the Voyager episode Projections (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projections_(Star_Trek:_Voyager))). Dwight would appear in six more episodes of Voyager four years later.
It's not mentioned anywhere that I could find, even on the fan wiki (https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Projections_(episode)), but I think it is fascinating that these Star Trek veterans were doing so many guest/bit parts for decades and crossed paths on a few occasions, probably without even realising it.

I saw that commercial too, wondering how they were going to do it during the current climate of closed borders, quarantine requirements and virus infestations. Even if they could get people who have anti-bodies (meaning that they have already had the virus), most countries and citizens are not going to be too welcoming of foreigners for at least another 6-12 months.

I was going to say in my post that maybe they could just do it within Australia... but with some borders remaining closed (and now the resurgence in Melbourne), I think they jumped the gun a bit, even if it is just done within Australia.

Over on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1503531509831785/permalink/1538555552996047/), someone posted up the comment that "British schools should be forced to teach children Arabic Numerals", and quite a few people were quite opposed to the idea, while quite a few people were quite amused at that opposition.

For those who don't know, our numbers (1,2,3,4,5,etc) are actually called "Arabic numbers". But it is always fun to see the angry comments from (presumably white) people who are not keen on the thought of having anything foreign, especially anything sounding Islamic, introduced into their western communities or schools, so their opposition to having "Arabic Numerals" taught in schools is actually opposing the teaching of basic maths in schools.
Or simply put, stupid people opposing basic education. :p

Im on a samsung s5. My last update was march 2017. Its dying with a flicking screen and the screen not coming back from black screen when in rest mode.

Not sure what to get

I just got a new phone yesterday, as my galaxy s4 was no longer able to work certain apps anymore. Instagram wouldn't post photos, twitter wouldn't tweet anything, the qantas in-flight entertainment app wouldn't access their system, and the web browser wasn't able to access a growing number of websites.
I bought the s4 back in 2013, for my trip to Japan... and other than a new battery for it about 3 years ago, it was still working fine (the current battery was down to about 2 days of charge now).
I don't like throwing out (replacing) items that still work, but it was just getting too difficult to use.
Even though the s4 was the new fancy galaxy phone in 2013, I decided against doing that again this time (the s20), and got a much cheaper galaxy a71 instead... which still has more than enough of what I need, and is 5G compatible, if it shows up in my area while I still have this phone.

And after finally convincing myself to take the step of replacing my (trusty) old phone with a new (expensive) one, my car breaks down the same day while I'm at the shops... $400 later, and there goes my toy spending money for the month.

Last week on Gruen (tv show about advertising), they mentioned about the affect social media apps can have on sales of obscure things... like a recent video on tiktoc of a skater drinking cranberry juice while singing to a song by Fleetwood Mac (from the late 70s), inspiring so many other people copying it, that the cranberry juice company has seen a massive surge of sales (they sent the person who did the original video, cases of the juice and a truck).
And then on the weekend, during Rage's music video weekly chart (on Saturday), the Fleetwood Mac song suddenly shows up at about number 5... which shows how much of an influence a single video can be, bringing a 40+ year old song back into the music charts for no other reason but because it has been used on tiktok (a number of more contemporary songs are stuck in the music charts because of tiktok videos, but this is one of the oldest songs it has sent back into the charts).

Meanwhile, it has saddened me to see SBS advertising the screening of the final season of Anthony Bourdain's travel show... which broadcast in America after he died (in 2018). The sad thing was, the final episode to screen while he was alive was a visit to Hong Kong, and while I was watching it along with his other recent ones (like the one tonight featuring New York), he just seemed like he was re-visiting his favourite places for one last time, as he just looked so old and worn out now... and sad... like he knew that he was just getting too old to enjoy this anymore.

So hey, question for Goki and/or any other Latin fans here...

How would I say 'You disgust me you filthy/worthless peasants' in Latin? I've started a course on computing basics (being something of a technophobe and needing to learn a few neglected skill areas) and one of the assessment tasks is to do up a flier in Word for 'Dazza's Woodfired Pizza'. Since they won't let me change the sample text and so I can't make the Worst Flier for the Worst Pizza Restaurant Ever (my slogan was going to be 'Now Food Act 2003 Compliant!') I've decided that going uber-fancy with the prescribed text will still be pretty funny, but for that I need a suitable Latin motto for the restaurant.
I've run a few options through Google Translate and so far am quite fond of "Et displicis, nequam rusticorum", but I wanted to check with people who actually know a bit about the language. :)

I've decided that - since the original plan for a hinted-at backstory involving a legal dispute with the Health Department, the local cat shelter, and Dazza's Woodfired Pizzas is no longer an option - Dazza is now Lord Quincy Farthing Dazzington IV, who was disowned from the family estate back in Mother England and exiled to NW Tasmania after an unfortunate fox-hunting accident at the local croquet club, where he has been reduced to running a local pizza restaurant for the local hordes of hungry bogans. Whom he despises, hence the slogan.

We used to be able to do a search on this forum and see results as Threads or Posts. But now we can only see Threads. Is this right? Am I missing something?

(I'm trying to find a post I made and it's proving more difficult than it should!)

On the Advanced Search page (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/search.php), there are two search tabs that show up under the "new sales and toys" header box (this is since the upgrade last year... I don't know why, as it annoys me when I use the wrong one, and seems unnecessary).

By default, you first end up on the "Search Multiple Content types" tab, which is the right-side tab. This doesn't give you a results option.

Click on the left tab "Search Single Content type" tab. This one gives you the option at the bottom to select Threads or Posts as your results.

Thanks. Yes that other tab is what I was looking for in advanced. Didn’t notice the tabs at all.

I haven't seen the hot cross buns yet (they usually are in Coles and Woolies within 3 days of Christmas), but they have both already been rolling out the Easter eggs as of yesterday...

I've checked out several stores in the last 3 days, and I've noticed that this year there was a LOT less unsold christmas items (decorations & foods) this year (in my area - it could be different in places like Sydney). Some stores I went to had almost nothing christmas related on clearance.
It wouldn't be a sign of people buying more this year compared to other years, but would be because the retailers were cutting back on their orders back around June, when it looked like the economy was going to be stalled in lockdown for the next year or so. But then as Australia did better with the virus than anyone had predicted, we saw the re-opening of states and wound back restrictions, allowing a lot more people to get back to work and spend more (and most states to be able to have a normal christmas). As such, it was too late for retailers to readjust their stock orders, because of how much stuff is made in China and produced around 6 months in advance.

One of my local Safeways had Hot Cross Buns out but no eggs.

I'm excited though coz I love those Apple/Cinnamon Hot Cross Buns and they make a really good Bread and Butter pudding.

Right on cue, the Coles near me had a heap of hot cross buns out today, with today being the "baked on" date.

You can't drop that and not leave details.

I basically copied this recipe (https://www.bestrecipes.com.au/recipes/hot-cross-bun-bread-butter-pudding-recipe/omyvak26) but used apple cinnamon hot cross buns.
When I buttered the buns I also spread a layer of apple sauce on top of the butter. Then when making the custard I added some cinnamon into that (I wanna say a tea-spoon but I just dusted it into the bowl until it looked like enough).

Pro-tip: works best with stale buns (or bread if you want a regular one), but because you probably don't want to wait for that just toast them a bit in the oven so they are dry. The drier the better since they absorb the custard real good.

Very nice! Though it looks like a "have once in a while" recipe.

Bought an one of those circular inflatable chair pad things for my work chair. It is similar to sitting on a balance ball.

I had no idea that bouncing around all day on my chair could be so confortable.

15 months after bushfires tore through much of the NSW coastal areas, now a lot of the coastal areas are suffering through record floods.
I hope everyone on here that lives in those affected areas wasn't too badly affected.

Seeing Thurmus' question "Good Cheap Online Hobby Store" made me think of the old graphic design joke. When it comes to stores you can only pick two:

Good and online but not cheap
Good and cheap but not online
Cheap and online but not good

Anyone who has watched British comedy game shows on SBS or ABC in the last 10-15 years, would probably know who Sean Lock (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Lock) is... well, he has died of cancer at age 58.
I thought he was one of the funniest British comedians for his dry humour, and was best known for his appearances on "Cats does Countdown" and QI.
