Jewellery? Anyone…? Ha XD
I thought it'd be nice to have a set of Starscream necklace and matching earrings...
Drew the seeker in PhotoShop,
Printed him on grafix shrink film
Cooked them in the oven the shrink.
Added a coat of sealer to keep them from getting smudged.
Attached with jump rings
(I might have a ComicCon Artist Table in Melbourne- but I'm not sure how well a few keyring transformers would sell)

Kinda in celebration- because I'm going to my first Transformer Con in the UK this year >.>

Thanks~ I must admit- they turned out a LOT better than expected ; ) I think I might make a few others (Jazz, Prowl, idk) but instead as key-rings/phone charms.

Could even hang them from a rear view mirror. Auto/Dec faction icons would be cool too.

Could too! Great idea, Kovert! ;)
Awesome. I'll get some of those done too.
Who knows- I might be the only one selling transformers gear at Artist Alley (I remember seeing nothing last year).

Have a unique product. If also well-priced, it is likely to generate interest. May the force be with you. Uh, I mean "Til all are one" :)

Wow, that's very impressive! You have quite a talent there with your artwork.
Necklaces/earrings are just the beginning. There are so many possibilities. Thanks for sharing.

So far I've made keyrings/phone charms/earrings/necklace charms... but I'll research and come up with something unique. I don't think I'll ask too much. I mean- they're hand made, so they won't be perfect.
But the process of making them is long and painful (and sometimes they shrink horribly in the oven). It might be easier to buy bulk from overseas XDD

I've ordered some similar stuff before off the internet, where you can get custom printed jewelry/tags but I've found that they don't last too long (fading, tarnish etc over a few years). I'd be interested to know the longevity of the stuff you made :)

They look very nice. I would personally prefer them if there was less of a white border. very cool artwork, and a very interesting manufacturing method.

I'd be keen for an Autobot faction logo for sure!

Good point. I was assuming the bulk stuff would be pretty good. But if I've given my ones enough sealed layers, they should last quite a while... hmm- which I had a time machine to test my theory! XDD

I'll give that a try. The issue is cutting this paper is REALLY difficult (if if your corners are too sharp, they can crack in the oven). But I will still give it a shot!

I'll make some then! See how they turn out~ ; )

the cracking would be related to material stress in the shrinking process.
If you had a punch style super sharp cutting tool you could radius the internal corners and then cut up to that radius. the radius would relieve a lot of the material stresses, reducing cracking.

I would also be interested in some of your starscream stuff as my better half would like it. :)

Oh wow, thank you guys- I'm kind of overwhelmed ;)
I'll keep working on them, and update them later to show you how they work out (they're still not perfect yet- edges need rounding off, etc). If I make enough, I might put something up here- or in the sale section. But they'll be small lots.

Ultra, I think I get what you mean. I wish I could visualise it. Do you have an example of the cutting tool you're thinking of?
They're very small though- I'm pretty sure scissors are my best bet. But I've realised I'm very impatient when cutting them. But found the smoother the corner (internal/external) is, the less likely it is the crack. I think that's probably what you've been trying to say XDD

Here is a diagram showing the rough concept. the black line represents the pattern you are cutting around with the black text on the inside of the design..
the green is the first cut made with a punch or curved chisel (spindle roughing gouge (http://www.americanwoodworker.com/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/techniques/Sharpening-Gouges_5F00_1.jpg)) not what it's designed for but I imagine you can find similar tools that would perform a similar job. leatherwork and woodwork tools are very sharp and can be found in many different profiles.
you then cut up to that initial cut with scissors or a sharp blade, however you normally cut. the advantage is the corner is already done so you can cut straight lines right up to your pre-existing corner cut. The caveat is I have no idea how the material you're using will respond to being punched through in this manner. It should be OK on a solid cutting mat, I'm gueesing:o

and I don't think you need to round the 'external' corners unless it's to make them not sharp for safety reasons.:)

These are really cool... I'd go a 'con logo, unless you can print both sides and flip around?

Wow-wow-wow!! Thanks Ultra! That makes total sense... Hmm- the paper's pretty thick- so it should be okay. I'll look out for carving tools and test 'em on scraps to see how it goes.
And yeah- the sharp corners could kill someone XDD I'll sand 'em down with a nail file though. So no worries.

Oh, epic idea. Only worry is flipping the paper- and if the printing is slightly off- it means I've wasted some of this expensive stuff.. Hmm...

Is your printer duplex? (Automatically prints on both sides, no manual turning the paper over)
If so, you could try a test run or two with just standard paper to see how it lines up

No- it was a 2 dollar second hand printer from Cash Converters *averts eyes* and 50 dollar ink pack.
So cheap- but it does the job...
I need to practice on American Letter sizing- which is bugging me XD But you're right- if I can find a solution- I'd love to double side them.
I'm also crazy worried because the film is very pla-sticky and if it smudges the first side, the whole lot will be ruined... *has a small heart attack*
