I actually kind of like the cab's look. It doesn't match Optimus, but it looks pretty sleek.

From a distance (or from a shrunken thumbnail), the cab reminds me of the first Classics Optimus Voyager toy from 2006.

(I don't even know what IDW Magnus looks like in truck mode to know how accurate this toys is.)

Hasbro are producing some really nice figures. This year has been such a treat for G1 fans. They're steadily pulling the fanbase back to official products again with all of these wonderful releases

The vehicle mode of the new toy looks halfway between G1 and this version (by a fill in artist, most of Milne's drawings of it are obscured)

Colour me happy. I think it's the best Ultra Magnus I've seen, better (Imo) than MP22

Minimus Ambus is just a bonus

They still work for me, but I did read on the TFW site of some people having connection issues too... so probably just surges of demand, as various time-zones start waking up and logging in.

The question is, will we be able to get Swerve, Whirl etc to carry him in alt mode upside-down?

Looks brilliant, and I cannot wait to grab one.

What size is Minimus Ambus? There's a similar lack of detail with Scoop's Targetmasters.
And judging by that, Magnus' alt mode is cab is a bit smaller than classics Optimus.

If his torso is as wide as Jetfire's at least, he should be quite a bit smaller. Hopefully it's not too bad. I can accept it if he's a deluxe sized cab with a lot of trailer.

Not HasTak's fault though, this toy is based on/inspired by IDW Ultra Magnus (http://40.media.tumblr.com/cb8e5592acab4777efa492fd05f74ccf/tumblr_njsmz9fGnj1qbguy1o1_1280.jpg) and the cab design is fairly accurate to that. :o As a fan of IDW Ultra Magnus, I'm very much looking forward to this toy. If you want something more G1 accurate, then I'd say MP22 is more your Cube of Energon. :)

I'd have to agree the cab is the weakest looking part of this toy, Inspired by IDW maybe but they've made big changes and not for necessarily for the better.

I love that Minimus Ambus fits in the chest though that is awesome.

Based on yes, but HasTak have taken the angular lines of the IDW version and given it an odd curved look with tiny windows, the end result is that it looks a bit cutesy. So yes I blame HasTak for those aesthetics. That said my issues with the cab aside this is still the most impressive toy Hasbro showed this weekend.

Things are looking up for official toys as of late! Hope the final stuff we get retail doesn't loose too much when it comes to finish.

This Magnus looks good and about time too since the last time we had a proper 'Classics' Magnus was City Commander and that was an early 3P toy relying on an even older official toy so showing age.

I find it odd on how one hand some fans complain about a dip in quality in the past four years, and on the other hand describe moulds such as the Classics Prime one as "dated" or "showing age". If there has been a dip in quality, then surely they would look ahead of their time rather than dated? Engineering hasn't improved that phenomenally, surely, that a toy from less than ten years ago (in a 30 year old line) is noticeably inferior to a modern toy following the quality dip thought to have happened around 2011?

I very like this Ultra Magnus. I like that it has a futuristic aesthetic in robot mode whilst still managing to look enough like an earth vehicle in alt mode. Minimus Ambus is a cool touch (but gives me continuity headaches for the Zombiverse). I'm not sure if it beats City Commander, but it is at least as good, which is enough to persuade me I should buy it. It makes me more likely to wait for the (inevitable?) repaint of Masterpiece Ultra Magnus in some sort of colourscheme though. Speaking of repaints... anyone else getting a Thunder Clash vibe from the alt mode, or am I so obsessed with TC that I see him everywhere?

I said City Commander armor was showing age as it is an early 3P kit. I did not call Classics Prime dated but he is an older mold. Please learn to comprehend what you read before you start criticizing others.

A video posted on youtube a couple days ago (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6wFwaO_sgg) shows how Minimus goes into Magnus, and explains who Minimus is in the IDW comic.

It also mentions their attempt at having more toys (where possible) be scaled in one of their modes to 1/144th scale... which is a common model scale apparently... for the customers and for diorama displays.

That video is MUCH clearer than the one I linked to in my thoughts post, such a cool gimmick that with a little retooling/sculpting - we could conceivably end up with a modern Powermaster Prime on our hands! :D

Having a "Soft"-scale with their figures is a great thing to move forward on, not expecting everything to be totally accurate but the attempt is certainly welcomed. :)

So, 1/144 huh? Ok, given Movie Optimus is quoted as 8.5 metres tall (28ft), in 1/144 scale that would equal approx 6cm. So a leader class figure in that scale, would, "in real life", be over 30 metres tall

They didn't think this through.
