Looks good. I'd say it looks skinny because of a combination of the angle the figure was photographed from and the magazine scan.

I think the exclusive accessory will be a toy-accurate faceplate.

The slimming of the body, apparently so Road Rage can be done better is a stupid sacrifice IMO. The accuracy of Tracks should come first, him being the toy being made and represented in the MP line.

I saw the real life vehicle on the road just recently... it's a pretty smallish and thin coupe. If the vehicle is going for more accurate vehicle proportions then that may be why the robot is thin too. And as griffin pointed out the original G1 toy was always the thinnest of the Diaclone cars. Also... men can be thin. It's not as if this toy has a distinctively feminine hour glass or pear shaped body. More like a male model, which suits his fabulous persona. ;)

The vehicle is long and skinny, I agree the robot proportions are due to vehicle accuracy. This should hopefully mean Tracks should be about a head taller than the other Autobot cars. Looking at the G1 toy, as a robot he still looks quite broad not unlike Sideswipe. But of course the masterpiece Sideswipe appears to be a little wider. I would say a tall and lean proportions are very appropriate for Tracks. He just wouldn't look right otherwise. By the way he is lean not skinny :D

its a little thicker. Not much but still.
his robot mode needs thicker legs at least.

Put words in your mouth? I'm looking for the part in my post where I said something along the lines of:

"VGM does not like the thickness of the alt mode and therefore, VGM will not buy the figure as a result."

Nope. Can't find anything like that anywhere. I do, however, see the words "if" and "then don't buy" quite prominently in my post - clearly a "suggestive" statement.

Chill people, and just enjoy the new toy(s). :)

Making an observation, based on personal preference doesn't mean they don't like it or wont' buy it... they just prefer that it would have been done differently if it were possible. (which it often isn't possible... but doesn't mean they can't comment on the good AND bad)
Just don't obsess too much about the bad (that can't be changed)... or else you'll have obsessed fanboys on your case. :p

Remember - the first pics of MP Magnus made him look really top heavy and kinda fat. By the time we got the finished product he was very well proportioned. Hopefully the same will happen here, with Tracks bulking out a little before the final product is ready

Exactly what I was thinking.

As for the "he's too thin" comments. To me, the photo looks like Tracks is on an angle, so we see his side and his head is turned to face the camera. Even his waist looks twisted backwards... So, that could be what makes him look thin to some. I think he looks fine, but it's just a Teaser pic anyway. A front-on view might look different.

Just to clarify this is where there might be some confusion do you mean thicker or wider or bigger overall in alt mode?
You might find to that the corvette isn't as big as a lot of people perceive them as they are actually not that big of a car in real life

ITZTRU
22nd February 2015, 03:54 PM
It's not the fact that people are arguing what they like or don't like about the figure. People do that all the time. I even just did it myself.

It's the "I'm gonna argue my point until someone agrees with me" part that gets to me?

Anyway, I'm done.

VGMStudios
22nd February 2015, 04:26 PM
No you obviously dont have to agree with any of the stuff that comes out of my mouth.
But acknowledgment would be nice then completely ignoing me.

and by thicker I meant a little bit..tiny even..wider.

dont get me wrong. I love the fact that they are making him. I will be buying it as he does look great!
It just the 1980s Corvette is my all time favorite car. So yes I will nit pick it if they dont get it perfect.
Sorry if that insults or is offensive to anyone. This is supposed to be a MP after all.
now I wonder of it will have the proper emblems on him.

peace!

Hehe, man this MP Tracks looks awesome! - I can't wait to see some pics of him taken with the other MP Autobot Cars for comparative reasons. ;)

His deco is going to look superb too as I've always been a fan of his predominately Blue, Red & Yellow colour scheme, topped off by some White highlights and I definitely agree that he needs to come with Raoul & a G1/Diaclone toy-accurate faceplate too (Maybe even some glasses!). :D

I'm curious to see how his shoulder assembly works, as his backpack area looks somewhat gappy also, but as for his overall slimmer dimensions; I think it is way more in-tune with the character than what it seems to be given credit for, the angle & photo of this magazine page isn't helping things but I feel the present proportions look very much like a toned super-model - He's the Rick Martel of the Autobots. :p

Now, give us some photos of Flying-Car Mode and all will be well in the world! :D:cool:

The angle of the toy photo is not complementary, but looks more to be the angle on the actual magazine page. Pretty sure we'll have cleaner scans later. I'm quite curious to see what Kobayash has to offer with his first full design since his return to the line.

Not my personal favorite but MP is the only line that I "collect" so I'm gonna buy it either way.:D

that's a bit harsh don't you think?

I am yet to personally transform that toy but it sets out to achieve some pretty impressive things and from all accounts apart from some structural issues and being fiddly it does a good job.

and if it was really that crap it wouldn't be selling on eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Transformers-Masterpiece-MP-9-Rodimus-Convoy-Rodimus-Prime-/281512265911?pt=UK_ToysGames_ActionFigures_ActionF igures_JN&hash=item418b7048b7)for $320+$60 shipping still so many years after the fact.

I still regret skipping out on the 2nd Takara run when it was released.

My thoughts echo most by the looks of it - he looks a tad skinnier than i expected, and the wings a little too big, missiles too small, so he comes across a bit too stylised. Reminds me a little of God Ginrai and certain Gundam. I'm thinking the wings can probably be adjusted lower and they're only big so that his flying car mode doesn't look so silly.

I trust that the car will be dead on accurate to the model in the end (the picture is probably warping dimensions) so if he ends up a little skinny in robot mode, i doubt there's much that could be done.

The attention to detail is slavish again though, they've got a special piece to give the side of his waist the right shape, shin details are spot on, leg wheels at the back, upper shoulders are trapezoid etc. I also appreciate the flipping chest logo too, and the gaps won't be as obvious as Bumblebee, thanks to the darker blue. Will definitely be the definitive version once it's coloured!

If they are continuing the licenced vehicle trend then the final proportions will be dictated by that. No car manufacturer grants a licence for something to look "almost" like their product.

There's nothing in the Japanese text that says that the accessories are exclusive to anything. It just states them as bonus items... so, judging just from the blurb in this current image, they may be standard accessories.

Bought 3 for free shipping and split within two of my mates, so it became $69.90 each. :)

Hopefully they do not screw up with orders but I think if that happens I will hunt one elsewhere down the road.

What brought up the cost was the shipping. the stand is probably the main culprit, and sadly I don't think I be using the stand much at all.

If you work it out, at cheapest is $85 minimum depending on Aussie dollar.

$85 shipped from Nippon Yasan using the cheapest air mail option. They are the cheapest option for me but given my recent issue with them i'm not going back. I think i might have to give this a miss given the weak AUD now and no cheaper alternative place to order him from.

That is a very good price. But I'm not comfortable paying up front for something that's more than 6 months away from release. Not much to fall back on if something goes amiss given the delay in receiving it from paying.

I've preordered two from HLJ. Will probably come out to about 7,500 Yen each shipped, so at current exchange rate it's about $81. And the beauty is I don't have to pay anything until it's ready to be shipped.

For what it's worth I just gave Nippon-Yasan a call. They said the shipping cost is higher because it's a larger box than the other car bots. I said there is no way it's going to cost double ship. I recently pre-ordered the Unite Warriors Superion which was still slightly cheaper to ship than Tracks! I told them I've had to pre order from HLJ instead.

good feedback > regarding NY shipping

I was hesitating on ny and kept looking at shipping cost and said "no way"
My normal shipping cost for any mp car from them was as low as 700 yen-1200 yen for ems. I cannot see how a plastic stand bring the cost up by 1,500 yen increase at least.

Yes/No about HLJ or NY pay later policy. NY is better as you choose to pay when the rates are good.

The down side of hlj is you are stuck if the rates are crap by that time.
All calculated risk, its my first time ordering from premium collect.
I cannot says its guaranteed, but Tracks isn't a big deal breaker for me if they stuff up. I am taking the gamble to see how it pens out.

NY has became a bit more greedy imo, sometimes I think they should just abolish all the discount crap and offer good prices like they used to is better.

Gee wiz, that's going to be a huge box. Why is Takara going the way of Hasbro and oversizing the box for this car (ala Hasbro MP Prowl)? Surely the stand is not that big????

So maybe Nippon-Yasan isn't grossly overcharging here? Makes me a little concerned about my HLJ pre-order since they charge 6,000 Yen each compared to 5,380 Yen each at NY. If the shipping is the same at HLJ then it would be better off to order from NY for those that wish to import.

So I'm willing to pay a little more.

Also, I'm not a fan of the stand. But it keeps up the tradition of getting a stand with every TF that has a flight capable alt mode.

Very disappointed with NY. I've pre-ordered from them numerous times and they refused to help me out when my MP UM came with a hole in the box. Which was their fault for not packing it in the box properly.

I'm also not comfortable paying upfront 6 months ahead but not willing to take a gamble with the postage cost with HLJ.

Great price from PC so i shall go with them.

Thanks for the feedback. I've got a number of Masterpiece pre orders with NY but due to the long lead time with these things I have yet to receive anything from them yet. I've found their responses to my inquiries pretty prompt and decent though.

I think I'll leave it on with HLJ. At least I can compare the service since I've never purchased anything from them either.

good feedback > regarding NY shipping

The down side of hlj is you are stuck if the rates are crap by that time.
All calculated risk, its my first time ordering from premium collect.
I cannot says its guaranteed, but Tracks isn't a big deal breaker for me if they stuff up. I am taking the gamble to see how it pens out.

I transfer yen into my Paypal balance when the rates are good - to combat if they tank before release. That way by the time it comes to pay for HLJ, I'm paying in Yen directly, and at a (usually) better rate. Its still a gamble if the yen rate gets better again before release, but then I just add more to my Paypal balance anyway at the better rate. With the amount of stuff coming out this year (and future masterpieces) it's handy to have a little extra available anyway. And honestly, the way the AUD is going these days - my feeling is there's probably not going to be much in the way of major beneficial fluctuation in Yen or USD in the future.

Just out of curiosity, what's been your experience with exchange rates doing that? Whenever I pay via credit card through paypal in AUD, the exchange rates Paypal gives have been shocking, like what I'd get trying to exchange money over the counter at a bank (for example: Yen was at approx 93-94 per RBA, Paypal gave me 89).

Doing what you're doing, do you get a better exchange rate than you would on a transaction through paypal? or is it the same as what I experience above? (but you obviously get that security of having locked in your exchange rate)

Usually, I'll add funds to my AUD balance from my linked bank account and then do the currency conversion inside Paypal from my AUD balance. I've always found the rates pretty good. For example today, Paypal is converting at 89 yen to the AUD (whereas ANZ is only converting at 87 yen to buy cash over the counter.) Even though Paypal might not always be on top, their rates are usually pretty good in my experience.
The other thing is, you can't use things like the RBA website or XE to gauge foreign exchange rates. Their rates are a "market rate" which is always higher than a purchase rate. So no matter how you buy, the purchase rate will always be a little bit lower than the RBA or XE sites.

I think with credit card payments, Paypal gets 2 fees from you. The exchange rate fee (which is factored into their rate) and their credit card fee. But I'm not 100% sure on that.

Ah I see. Fair enough. Not sure if this would change what you're doing (and I'm not sure if you're already across this), but from my experience 28 degrees mastercard card is very good with exchange rates (using my example above, I got 92.something when I pre-ordered Tracks through Paypal using the card, no fee involved from either company), in case there's something you want now and want a better exchange rate/save your cash reserves :)

This is what i normally use for purchases in foreign currency. It's a meant to be a travel card so one benefit is no international transaction fees and it also uses mastercard exchange rate.

Link the card to your Paypal account and then at paypal checkout choose to pay in foreign currency instead of using Paypal's rip off rates. It will then use the card's exchange rate.

While they're definitely more pronounced than previous MP's, i think the lighting in the photo is probably highlighting them more than they will in person.

Perhaps they did this cause his face is red so the previous approach wasn't obvious enough? I think Bumblebee could have done with more defined lines than what he got, the angles are a bit lost with his face sculpt, so i'm ok with this change for now at least!

Is this an assumption? I think they would like to keep the box sizes consistent with other releases. It will increase the weight just a little, and the stand itself adds to the cost of the figure. I would personally rather not pay extra for a stand, but I think its a pretty cool addition to have for a flying car ;)

Even if it remained the same, it would mean that the gap between the Japanese and Australian full RRPs would become smaller; even less so when factoring in the cost of shipping. And remember that buying local offers more convenient options for exchange/refund if there are any issues. :)

I've managed to find all of the imported JP MPs at TRUs; although admittedly not at every TRU that I've been to. But remember that even if you cannot find the toy at your local TRU, you can contact TRU head office and ask them to source one for you.

Well looks like TT may just have made an error in putting that box size W440xH290xD110mm (same as United Warriors Box which is bigger than that of the big MP boxes) or they are still not certain on the box size and still examining how to package with the flight stand so they placed the biggest box size they have (though it will not be good for shipping cost on preorders where the box size matters). As i have said IMO the flight stand is not that big and it folds so i reckon it is still possible they can fit that in the usual MP car box...if that may not be the case they may have a new set of box size just like what happened to Soundwave's cassettes and may just be used by future MPs.

Update: Well tried my rusty Japanese after 2years and inquired through Takara Tomy Mall on the box size of Tracks. They said they made a mistake on the size indicated and confirmed it is the Standard MP Car Box (210x147x70mm)
So no new box size this time so postage or shipping cost should just be the same as usual MP cars.
