View Full Version : US GEN Slingshot & Wildrider confirmed - with new names

Looks like Slingshot and Wildrider are definitely limited edition exclusives from Hasbro, as they have appeared in a Diamond/Previews listing for May (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generations-classics-44/diamond-listing-combiner-wars-slingshot-and-wildrider-182340/)... suggesting a shared exclusive at American comic shops and ToysRUs America.
(no idea if they will come here, or what other American sources might have them as well)
Since the names being used are Quickslinger and Brake-Neck, it shows that Hasbro America must still be missing the trademark on Slingshot and Wildrider (or recently lost Wildrider, as it was used on the 2010 BotCon set). And it shows that when Hasbro Australia were saying that "Slingshot" and "Wildrider" are not on their release listing, it was technically correct... in that they are not general release toys, and, those Gen1 names would not have shown up on any future product listings - so even if they are coming here in some way, Hasbro Australia wouldn't have known that Quickslinger and Brake-Neck are the current names for those characters.
At least if they do come out in May, and don't get released here, those people going to BotCon in June might have a chance at finding them if somewhere like TRU gets them... or BBTS (who will charge a lot more than retail for them in the Dealer Room like they did for Metroplex in 2013).

Hmm, Quickslinger and Break-Neck were the names used for their Kre-O versions so must be what Hasbro consider "close enough" for their current names.

I wouldn't worry about not being able to get the two of them if Diamond is carrying them, if it goes anything like the similarly released Marvel Legends Jubilee wave you should be able to get them from places such as BBTS' webstore or maybe even your local comic book shop(depending on if they're willing or able to order them in of course)

Yes, Kreo and BotShots have used those names now, which must mean they can't even use "Autobot" and "Decepticon" as a prefix either. :(

Awesome news. I was actually settling into Alpha Bravo quite well. It's a team of six for me, then. If Slingshot returns to the team in the books, what will his encounter with AB be like? I can imagine Wildrider breaking out in a fight against Offroad.

Or keep it because it's a good figure on its own and if you really feel the need to get the redeco at least it gives you the option of having a Superion made up of all unique molds.

I'm keeping mine, I am getting TT superion but alpha bravo is nice still. I thought i saw a pic of slingshot yesterday with orange visor (ala the g1 toy). Imo it would be better as jt seperates him more from alpha bravo. But still nice, liking brake-neck, and will be hunting him as i already have the rest of hasbro menasor organised.
Edit: ah yep now i see, full orange face is the TT slingshot, i'm a happy camper then.

Since the Facebook post only mentioned online retailers I'm going to take a wild(rider) guess at these being shared exclusives between BBTS and Amazon.
It may be a long (sling)shot but maybe, just maybe, Robotkingdom might have them as well seeing as they have sold other BBTS "exclusives" in the past (I'm looking at you Piranacon...)

I'm surprised that they have comics with them as well, since they are likely to be a lot more limited than regular release items, and don't need them if they are exclusives.
I think Hasbro may have released these images after all the discussion about them appearing on the Diamond/Previews listing for May... as I would imagine that they would have preferred to wait until after Wave 2 was released and saturated the market, as there might be a lot of people now not buying Off-Road.
As for Alpha Bravo and Off-Road... I don't see why they aren't still collected or kept, as all of these Generations Deluxes are really great toys on their own, and none need to be combined just because they can combine. Treat it as a bonus, and enjoy the toy like any of the Legends that aren't part of a combiner team.
I certainly will.

Well personally, I passed on Alpha bravo because were going to see the same mould again as blades, vortex and probably blast off. so if I'm getting the Takara Superion, I probably don't need AB.
I might get Off road, he fits the team well, and I have less emotional attachment to the stunticons than Aerialbots.

As a fan, I agree with this sentiment. But I also kind of admire it and it seems to make more business sense. We know that redecos are important for Hasbro and the Transformers brand, but selling the redecos first are more likely to move those units, and of course, selling the iconic characters later isn't as much of a problem because fans will still buy them!
I'll admit it, I totally fell for it. I bought Alpha Bravo and I want Quickslinger! And I've also pre-ordered Alpha Bravo online, so I'm gonna end up with a spare! :p So yeah, that's kinda annoying as a consumer, but part of me is also chuckling at Hasbro thinking, "Well played!" :D Played me like a fiddle!
But I don't think I'll bother getting Off-Road though. ;)
Who am I kidding? I'll buy him so that I can complete Menasor sooner rather than later, then still buy Brake-Neck when it comes out! --- like a fiddle! :p

With Break-Neck, I will very likely skip Offroad. The green's not doing it for me. It looks yellower in the promo pics. I presume Break-Neck will be more grey than black, just like Offroad looked in his promo pics.
If this is indeed an online/comic shop exclusive, is anyone else thinking of asking around their shops to see if they're getting them?

That's the problem... we have 6 Voyagers in this first series, but only four sets of limbs in the regular release toyline.
With these two, we still need another 6 redecos just to even up the count.

I have Alpha Bravo but not Offroad yet but still intend to get him.
I'm not sure why people have such an issue with these extra limbs. I can see how its annoying if you only wanted the original 5 based on G1 and you've purchased these new characters. Then you have a beef.
But if you think about other sci-fi genres, these groups start small and then expand. There were only 5 original X-Men working for Xavier - now there are dozens of the buggers! I have no problem with there being 7 different Stunticons and Aerielbots now - as long as they don't chuck the originals for no reason I'm fine with it, as well as the new toys.

I would think it was a bit of a 'not in disguise' giveaway to see a helicopter keeping formation with jets :-) regardless of the method of propulsion.:)

yea, but if everyone is just as fast as each other it gets boring, I prefer to think that characters pick earth modes that suit their capabilities, or at least reflect them.

AB's rotors are made of special Cybertronian metals that creates reverberations that allows him to somehow move as fast as a jet.

HaHa, the day there is a metal/solid material that doesn't fatigue harden and fracture/fail with vibration, is the day physics stops:D
Unfortunately my brain wont accept assumptions like that, for sub-sonic ballistic trajectories like a golf ball, minor turbulence produced by the dimples actually reduces the drag on the ball by allowing the boundary layer to travel further around the ball before producing a low pressure turbulent flow behind the ball.
http://www.mopedarmy.com/forums/file.php/7/121174/1979-04-03.jpg
for pretty much any other type of flight turbulence is a bad thing reducing efficiency by either reducing lift and/or creating drag. Any vibration will lead to turbulence, which is earth science.
but again, I'm a dork about this stuff:rolleyes:, please excuse my reality check and go back to enjoying the fantastic wonder that is transformers.

Quickslinger and Brake-Neck appeared in Hong Kong and Taiwan last week in very limited numbers, and if you are really desperate, you can get them on ebay for about US$65 for the pair with shipping. (about AU$40 for each Deluxe toy)
Apparently these two have a May 22nd release date in America, and Amazon listed them today... but a few hours later they were withdrawn, so the release date may be true.
So keep an eye on that site next week if you are wanting these two (if we don't get them here), as it is likely to cost about US$45 to get them shipped here (about AU$30 for each Deluxe). And that's only if it is available to non-Americans.

These are listed at ToysRUs in America (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=20208), AND Amazon... so hopefully this means we shouldn't see a shortage of these, now that the three biggest sources of toys will have them.
Because they aren't coming to Australia... and the limited number showing up in Asia have seen secondary prices go to $30-40 each.... this could mean that we will see a plentiful supply within a month from America, and scalpers won't target them as much. (especially if Amazon ships to non-American customers when it comes into stock)

Problem with them being released through Diamond is that you need to order a case (8 units?) of the figure - something a lot of comic stores are probably pretty hesitant to do, given the smaller market in Australia and the general release (rather than specialty store) focus of the standard lines...
I mean, 16 figures? That's a bit of a punt for a small comic store to take, isn't it?

BBTS sent out an email half an hour ago to warn people about when it starts... and there must be a lot of people trying to get these, as the site is currently slower than ours. :p
They were in-stock when I got them into my cart, but after waiting 3 minutes for it to get to the checkout stage, Quickslinger didn't show up... so I had to go back and re-cart it... taking another 3 minutes to go to the checkout stage again. Then another 4 minutes waiting for the purchase to process. Then it came up as an error with no explanation, so I checked my POL to see if it went in... it didn't, so I went back a page and tried again. Another minute later it was telling me that I didn't select a payment (because I didn't re-check the option), two minutes later the same error screen came up.
So I go back and try to re-cart another pair, and going through the whole checkout process again, it then tells me that it will be added to my POL (which I didn't have one yet)... so I go back to my account, and sure enough, there they are, despite still getting an error message that there was a problem with the order.
So it took me 18 minutes to get these two toys, thanks to all the other fanboys rushing the site to get them.

Quickslinger (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HAS24411&mode=retail)
Brake-Neck (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HAS24410&mode=retail)
25 mins later and still in stock. I think BBTS did a good job of creating panic/demand by warning people that they have limited stock etc, because it was the tipping point for me to get a pair :o

Did you succeed?
I got the email confirmation, and re-checked to make sure I didn't end up with multiples and get punished for it.
People on other fansites had the same problems, so that's reassuring (for me).
Now it will be about 3-4 months before I see them, as I don't order anything around the time of BotCon, in case I find the items at retail while in America. :(

I managed to grab the pair. Loading the pages took longer than normal but still got through the confirmation page in 5 mins.
I got the order confirmation email and in my Pile of Loot page, it has the two listed (just that the payment is still processing).

I think, because of reloading the pages, I have 3 of each, hopefully they won't cancel all 3

I preordered them through Premium Collectables. With shipping the total was $54.90. Don't think I'll get better then that.
Cheers, I just ordered mine through them as well. :)

The Premium Collectables is a good option.
And now even Target in America has them (looks like May 22nd was indeed a set release date). I don't see how these should be hard to find, as that's now Target, Walmart, ToysRUs, Amazon, BBTS and TFsource for fans in America to order from.

I managed to nab the pair at BBTS. Site was slow, but I got 'em. Very happy (:

I just tried to pre-order them from BBTS (as backup :o)... it kept on crashing on me. I give up. Just hope that I don't get charged for nothing. I can't believe Hasbro's not releasing these toys here. Don't they want our money?

Edit: Nevermind, it just processed. :o

I tried grabbing them off Premium collectibles, but unfortunately the website does not have an option for PayPal :(. If anyone in the Sydney area could help me out that would be nice :)

A pile of two, yes. :p Although BBTS just declined my card payment. Just tried again. They better not charge me twice.

Now also available (to Americans) on the Hasbro toyshop site.
I guess the term "exclusive" was misleading to those of us thinking that it meant limited... but the exclusive element was to "online purchase" instead of to a particular store, and being exclusive to online purchasing doesn't mean much limitation these days with most stores now selling online to stay competitive.

I think it still does mean limited to an extent. BBTS, TFS, RK (Premium Collectibles before their restock) are all sold out already. They couldn't have been allocated much stock for them to sell out so quickly.

I agree that it is probably still limited in number, but maybe not as limited as we were originally thinking it would have been if it was exclusive to a single store.
I think with all the hype and perceived rareness, people are jumping on these faster than they would over a normal store exclusive... and I think a lot of those people are just buying them to resell.
But it is worth noting that the sources that are selling out fastest are the ones that ship to non-Americans as well as Americans... so there is a greater number of potential customers than say Walmart, Target, TRU and the Hasbro toyshop has.

Good points.
They're already up on ebay for like AU$80/set. Resellers aren't wasting any time

Wow... I knew that these were available at quite a few website locations, but not this many (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-toy-discussion/1042430-catch-all-combiner-wars-quickslinger-brake-neck-availability-thread.html).
Still, most have sold out, so stock numbers at each must have been small, or the massive hype and fansite media coverage made them perfect targets for investor/scalpers.
