As the HK release approaches in little over a weeks time, the toys are already starting to appear in-hand with some Asian sources, and pictures are being posted up.
First is the Voyager Cyclonus (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generations-classics-44/combiner-wars-cyclonus-galvatronus-in-hand-images-182433/), which is an extensive reworking of the Silverbolt toy... and has its own combiner name as well - Galvatronus, who can use any four limbs, as Cyclonus controls others at will to form the combiner.

He looks better than I'd thought. The alt mode is gorgeous (probably a deciding factor for some people- I'd display that in alt mode), and the combined mode is really nice. I'm interested to see the role they play in the comics, if they have one. Robot mode is okay, a little big in the arms.
Still not enough for me to bite (I'm always on a strict budget :p), but it's not bad.

Slightly disappointed that he won't have dedicated limbs. Maybe he'll have an orphanage for all the unwanted Alpha Bravos and Off-Roads.

At least Hasbro were smart enough to include in the bio that Cyclonus poaches and controls limbs to form his combiner, so that he isn't left being an unused combiner core by kids playing with the established "teams".

SPOILERS FOR CW COMICS...
Livio on the IDW thread has mentioned that Galvatronus does not appear. He gave no comment regarding the Ultra Prime combiner though.

Yeah... all the toys are not going to be in the comic, so it is good to have the bios of those not in the comic to have a story/character element included, that makes it easy or desirable to buy them as part of the Combiner Wars concept being featured in the comic.
I actually love the bio for Cyclonus, as it makes him sound like Gen1 Mindwipe, but with the bonus of using them as extra limbs if he wants.

Cyclonus's combined form is one of the better ones, too bad there are no limbs that go with his colour scheme so far.

Looking better than I thought he would, didn't think they would add in so many new parts. However, Deluxe Cyclonus still works for me (even with my Henkei versions broken arm)

I think that if they did a one-off Deluxe Scourge mould, a lot of people would buy four of them to go with the Voyager Cyclonus... paying for the once-only use of the mould.
And for Gen1 fans, it would give us the right amount for the classic team of Scourge and 3 Sweeps from the original cartoon. (the most common number of Sweeps shown, which correlate with the 3 Insecticons & 2 Seekers Unicron used in the 1986 Movie to create Cyclonus, Scourge and Sweeps)

Would have to be a pretty good Scourge to beat the one we have. Would be cheaper for sweeps though.

Yeah, the existing Generations Deluxe Scourge is pretty good... but why should Bumblebee and Optimus be the only characters that get multiple toys in one size class? ;)
(at least it would be a new toy for a good reason... rather than "just because it is Bumblebee" :p )

They'd likely win me over with a hoversoap alt mode toy that matches the style of Voyager Cyclonus.

I know I'll be in the minority here, but I actually like Alpha Bravo better. There's something about Blades face and limited colour palette that just don't excite me. That said it's clearly the best Blades Hasbro has done since the original.
Would have to be a pretty good Scourge to beat the one we have. Would be cheaper for sweeps though.
I assume he would be different not better, the same with Cyclonus. I don't see this new one if I get him supplanting my RTS and Henkei Cyclonus, however he has his own unique appeal.

Streetwise looks pretty cool and could possibly be one of the best deluxe Protectobots along with First Aid. I really don't like the face for Blades, its to much of a frown, and Alpha Bravo could be a perfect substitute. It would be nice if Hasbro does a new Scourge to combine with Cyclonus, then we could have scourge and the other 3 limbs the sweeps. All they need to do is make one mold ;) If hasbro doesn't do it, someone is likely to try a custom as it seems like a no brainer to me.

The side-by-side of Streetwise with Deadend in car modes is like looking at two different toys... pretty much only the wheels are the same.

Apparently (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generations-classics-44/combiner-wars-wave-3-at-amazon-june-15th-release-date-182447/) Amazon in America isn't expecting Wave 3 (Protectobots) until June 15th, which is two months after their Asian release date... while BBTS has them listed for April as well. (not that BBTS release dates they get told by Hasbro are often reliable - most of their Generations toys have been a month or two late, so probably expect May/June from them as well)

I just found Leader Ultra Magnus on Amazon as well (http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Generations-Combiner-Leader-Magnus/dp/B00V96ZXUG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_t_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=1S7GYCSWQ7R59WXB28SG), which has a release date of August 31st. At this rate, wave 4 won't be out until Sept/October... if these Amazon dates are from Hasbro America.
Which seems a little strange. Hasbro America rushed out the first wave so fast that the comics weren't even ready, but now look to be spacing out the other three waves to make the series last until the end of the year.

Streetwise's body shape actually suits Prowl really well. I might actually get Hasbro's version, if the headsculpt is nice enough (hopefully they do Smokescreen and Bluestreak too). It'd be interesting to see how they'd do Bluestreak. Just a redeco of Dead End, or a mix of both?
griffin
9th April 2015, 05:55 PM
If Prowl is indeed in wave 4, it will be interesting to see if they just redeco Streetwise into black/white Gen1 Prowl colours.... or have some new panelling, or at the very least, a new head.

Streetwise bot mode looks cool, but the car looks cheap and nasty compared to Deadend. It's desperately in need of painted hubcaps.

Rook is next (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generations-classics-44/combiner-wars-rook-in-hand-182458/)... the new member of the Protectobots, replacing Groove as a limb, so that a more in-scale vehicle mode could be done for his motorcycle alt-mode.

I can actually see Rook and Groove working together, sort of like one of those buddy cop movies lol.
I may prefer G1 accuracy for Superion but in this case I am more then happy with this addition to the team.

Just like with Streetwise & Deadend, there is not a lot of reused parts between First Aid & Offroad. Just about every panel in vehicle and robot mode is different.

Last, but not least, Hotspot (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generations-classics-44/combiner-wars-hot-spot-in-hand-182472/).
No combined mode photos yet... so they might be posted next.
I think the team looks great in robot mode and vehicle mode... and I can't wait to get them. The thing I don't like so much is Hotspot's vehicle mode. The narrow mid-section just looks wrong, but must have been necessary for the Robot or combined modes.
Not sure where Groove is, or why the applicable legends toys (Powerglide, Blackjack, Groove, Rodimus) are not included on the back of the box with the rest of the team.

I'm loving all of these. The Protectobots always seemed like the team with the most personality and diversity (rivaling Bruticus).
Hot Spot's the enthusiastic leader who lives up to his name, Streetwise is the calculated one, First Aid is the compassionate, sometimes self-questioning pacifist, Rook is the muscle and Groove is the laid back energon-stoner (at least in my book).

They all look fantastic and considering how great Alpha Bravo and Offroad are First Aid and Blades are going to be just as good :)
For me though I would have preferred minor re-moulding of Blades' arms to remove the missiles as I think he should have been more rescue oriented as opposed to hostile, maybe some floaties for water landings or cable winches.

I'm so torn. I don't care for Defensor at all but seeing how good Hot Spot's robot-mode is really making me reconsider. Not to mention how sweet Rook is.
Not as big a fan of Defensor, Superion is still the best combiner in my eyes.

I think his bio will explains why
Blades
Blades can take his alternate form - a chopper - a little to literally. Sure, he carries plenty of firepower. But he'd much rather shred enemies with his rotors, bringing them down with a whirling flurry of copter kung fu.

Damn, Onslaught is going to look awesome
I like some of the team members here, but Hotspot really isn't doing it for me. The robot mode is nice enough, but juts isn't giving me "those" vibes that the other teams do.:(
Defensor doesn't tickle my fancy either.
Slightly off topic, whats with the current need for all robots to be posed punching the ground??? Is it like some joke robot meme thing now?

I'll be interested to see the Combaticons, I guess I'll probably wait till the Japanese Legends version to see if they Do Onslaught in cartoon blue. Only worry is if Onslaught is a retool of Hotspot how are they going to do Bruticus's trademark chest shield.

Same way they've done Defensor's - using that backpack to fold out - wouldn't be surprised if that part is remoulded as a huge pair of cannons/missile launchers

well if the chest shield on defensor is made from the base of the ladder/turret from hotspot i'm guessing it would just be slightly changed/re-tooled or whatever to suit?

Voyager - Hotspot, Cyclonus

I now do miss falling in line during distribution day release in the Philippines to get your hands first on new releases of TF toys and Marvel sometimes. This assures you get what you want (if you are early and the stocks are in your favor) or else you are gonna hunt all the malls in Manila two or three weeks after distribution when they hit the shelves because scalpers will definitely get the limited ones
