From TFW2005 (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-masterpiece-47/transformers-masterpiece-mp-26-revealed-as-roadrage-182527/)
Via Taghobby (http://www.taghobby.com/1-0/1-1/不斷更新-figure王-207號-內容-non-bandai-news/), Masterpiece MP-26 has been revealed as Roadrage, a remold of the upcoming MP-25 Tracks. She looks to have a different head sculpt, but no word on what other differences this mold has as compared to MP-25.

I saw that too... and had to double-check the Tracks pics, and am surprised that Tracks didn't have his "toy" gun.
I'm also surprised that Road Rage is to come out immediately after Tracks, AND, has its own number. I guess after Exhaust got his own number, that's the new rule perhaps.
For a mostly mere redeco, there should have been something else released before it to break up the repetition of moulds.
(I was expecting MP-26 to be the new mould that I saw at Toyfair, which I still can't say yet... and now we have two new MP toys and it still hasn't been revealed yet. :( )

Maybe I'm missing something but weren't MP12/14 and MP17/18/19 basically the same molds, respectively? I don't think this is anything new. But I'm a newbie with 21st century transformers...

Road Rage has a new head, upper arms, upper, legs, pelvis, a new weapon and likely some additional new accessories in place of Raoul and Blaster if current trends continue. Hardly just a 'mere redeco'

You are completely right, I think the delineator here is actual G1 characters Vs. a EHobby character that has been created to homage an original pre-transformers colour version of a toy, ie, Tiger Track, Blue bluestreak and infamously Exhaust.
I don't have a particular affinity to Road Rage, and unlike Exhaust the character doesn't represent a darker history of motor sports and promotional advertising that bled over to toy manufacture. I am a bit disappointed that Tracks doesn't have this gun, it's clearly an effort by Takara to make the Road Rage model more appealing to a wider audience. The mould changes that people have pointed out, legs and crotch in particular will go a long way to feminising the robot mode. quite well done I think.

Isn't the MP line designed to be more and more animation accurate rather than G1 toy accurate? Just saying that personally, I'd rather a Raoul figure and a small Blaster than a gun from a toy I never owned, particularly when collecting figures based on the cartoon.
That said, interesting that Exhaust came with not only the two shoulder missiles that can make a MP Wheeljack toy accurate, but he also came with the immobilizer of Wheeljack's too...

That's pretty much it... in other words, it is not just a case of "gee-wun fanboy" hating on anything that isn't pure.
The Masterpiece line was/is for the "best of the best", "premium" homages to the original series of "Transformers" toys (with an acceptably small amount of redecos to help pay for the moulds), and yet two of the small number of MP numbers has now gone to characters that were not even original Transformers characters. As a Masterpiece collector from the beginning, I felt the same way about MP-2 Ultra Magnus when it was revealed and released, but half accepted it because at least that was part of the original Ultra Magnus toy.
Up until Exhaust, it was pretty consistent with not giving new numbers to "new" characters (like Sunstorm, Tigertrack), as well as character redecos (like Black Convoy, Black Rodimus, Gen2 Sideswipe, Soundblaster, Ghost Starscream, Dead Convoy, Gold Bumblebee, Silverstreak, Bluestreak).
But now the rule seems to have changed to just be character redecos only getting extensions to MP numbers.
I guess once they hit 20, the concept didn't seem so limited or premium anymore to worry about how many numbers they go through in a year.

And therein lies the rub. If you want unique moulds like Wheeljack or Tracks (neither of which had a G2 variant, IIRC), then what are the options?
A more animation accurate (read: less deco'd) Wheeljack with an extra two of Exhaust's shoulder missile launchers?
I'd rather have Exhaust and Road Rage released (where I can choose to buy them or not) than not have Wheeljack or Tracks given the MP treatment.

I quite like what I see, and it's an inevitable part of Hasbro and TakTom's business strategy.

Ditto, since MP10 we've gotten a bunch of new molds, they may not have given repaints their own number prior to this, but the Original MP line may as well have been called The Convoy and Seeker series + a few friends.
So with all this fancy remolding, I'm still surprised they can't give us Coneheads just to add to the endless MP Seeker variants.

Yes but those figures/characters have their own place as legitimate characters on screen in the G1 cartoon.
Other recolours have had letters designated to them with their MP number when they re-released moulds as characters from other transformers continuities. Eg: MP11S, MP12G.
Although some might argue that MP13B should have had it's own number given that Soundblaster was a legit character in (Japanese) G1 also. Meh.

You could work on the theory that Mould change = new number with each of those, but then you fall into issues with MP-12G and MP-13B, especially since you get Ratbat there as well....
Then I had a brainwave...
MP-12G, MP-13B, MP-21G, MP-05G are all the SAME CHARACTER as the original, just the Gen 2 version, or electrum coated, or back from the dead.
Also explains why MP-11A and MP-11SW kept Starsceams number, as they had no mould changes (I know, I should open mine and check... might be a different smirk or something) And I think MP-10 EVA is a straight repaint too (might check when i get home from work.... good excuse to get him off the shelf)
And of course if you want an exemption to the rule.... MP-10 A and B had their should leveled of the Autobot insignia, so the Ape/Decepticon tampo could go on.

If they suitably feminize the characters robot mode I may pick it up simply for the novely of having a female Masterpiece figure (is she Bot or Con?). If its just a slightly changed Tracks I wont bother. I got Exhaust for the novelty of the character but other non-TF characters like Tigertracks I've skipped.

Acidstorm is just an imported Hasbro toy, so wasn't going to get a TakaraTomy MP number.... while Skywarp was a Hasbro HK toy, so also wasn't going to get a TakaraTomy MP number (despite them packaging it in a JP box, because they weren't able or willing to use the Hasbro packaging).
So ignore any HK exclusive MP toys that were in Japanese packaging, as TakaraTomy probably wouldn't allow them to use new MP numbers in case they clash with their future numbers.
As for the others that are from TakaraTomy, it seems that the general rule is that after the "reboot" from MP-10, any new character that has remoulding, gets a new number... but new characters that are basically redecos (Tigertrack) and existing characters with new moulding (G2 Sideswipe, Soundblaster) don't get a new number.
(unfortunately, since Ratbat was paired with Soundblaster, it will always remain as an exception to every rule)

Personally I do not care what number it is. With the first lot of MP's being all over the place scale wise I don't think numbering consistency is an issue. I don't have all the Mp's because of scale or because they are characters that mean nothing to me. To me scale is more important than numbering.

yup, they can do MP "A" "B" C for all I care, the toy is what matters. For me, scale, and quality, even if it means paint apps.

I disagree on the whole coneheads thing in general. I think to get effective screen accuracy, they'd probably have to retool/make a new tooling for the whole cockpit section. They had much squarer cockpit sections in the cartoon and the head were pretty large.

But that would require R&Ding a whole new mould (¥¥¥$$$). Road Rage is an easy choice because they've already developed the base mould for Tracks; all they need to do is modify it to make Road Rage. The core Masterpiece moulds are always those based on existing G1 toy-characters. The more obscure characters have always been redecos of those base moulds (e.g. Sunstorm, Acid Storm, Exhaust, black Rodimus etc.).

I took the plunge as its much cheaper than Tracks and the identity looks different enough for me to buy it. Though I have told myself to avoid countless times. But the better Aussie rate now is a good time to pay off immediately regardless if it gets better as it was much worse lately.

I'm in two minds about this. I've succumbed to multiple repaints of the Datsuns, Lambos and Stratos... but although it looks great, it just doesn't look very unique to me.
I think the colours remind me too much of Lambor. I'm thinking perhaps they should have done another design on the hood to differentiate it a bit more.
I wonder if they'll do a Black version at some point? It'd probably look pretty plain, but at least i could pretend it was KITT from Knight Rider :D

I really like the red color especially if it is like Lambor...
Which makes Tracks and Road Rage easily be a part of my Red/Blue TFs collection like Rumble/Frenzy Arms Microns and all Starscream/Thundercracker variants

Ive got tracks on pre-order. Will wait to see an in-hand comparison before thinking about getting road rage.
Already got blue bluestreak on pre-order as well, also pre-ordering maketoys cupola (aka chromedome). So will decide later to see if theres some spare $$$ for road rage.

The problem here is when you want Road rage it will not be available. And when available you are paying 20% above RRP.
Current price for Road Rage is affordable as compared to Tracks.

Yeah might just have to pre-order it :).
What's annoying is we haven't even been able to get tracks in hand to try out the mold before hand.
Luckily I'm a big fan of the corvette.
Considering the quality of all the cars so far it's money well spent.
It's like I said to myself I wasn't going to get combiner wars optimus because I was getting motormaster for menasor. Ended up buying him on impulse while out shopping. Was fun messing around with him with the stunticons attached. Cant wait to get his proper team assembled.

Now they are using the original C3 emblem infront the box of Road Rage while Tracks used the latest one

I don't think it will have anything to do with Roadrage (storywise). I think it just makes use of part of the tooling for Tracks... or to make sure some fans didn't complain about the wasted opportunity of having Twincast done from the Blaster accessory. If they could have redecoed Raoul into someone plausible as well, they probably would have.
(the early release of JP Devastator may have been good for some, but with Roadrage still coming out December 26th, it didn't matter to me as I still have to wait until the 26th to ship my HLJ loot :( )

So NY has already shipped my Road Rage sometime back, I just saw Goki's page which showed the box.
It might be early for me to pass judgement but from the looks of it TT had cut cost and not paint Road Rage and instead gave plastic red.
I am getting to the point that I might not want to collect mps anymore if they are just going to skip paint apps.
I just gotten my Sideswipe mp from jetfire and WOW the red was well done!
Look at it just pop!
Look back at Tracks and I am like "really?"
I am so afraid how ironhide will be as this is a major blow if everything just looks plastic moulded and is rather a dull finish. I hope I am wrong.

It is explained in Road Rage's bio. See translation here (http://otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=22102).

I have to agree with what your saying. This is a deal breaker for me as it really takes away from the appeal of masterpieces. But an unpainted plastic finish is more practical for play and transforming. But I don't care I want these pieces to look beautiful and shiny on display :)

Is a masterpiece, my bluestreak is all shiny whether I play it or not. I expect some effort in masterpiece line. I now remember why I hated mp-10 optimus is because is not painted and yet people are paying over $200 for it.
Sideswipe used to be in my "is okay" list but now I like it as the paint just pops
Wheeljack seems to be where have left me bored as the plastic white just doesn't work.
If road Rage is painted, I can tell you right now is better than Tracks, else I think I wasted my money.

Wasn't sure where to post this one, but there didn't seem to be a pic of the coin in this thread.
But I also have a question. Is it just me, or does the packaging remind anyone else of the Decepticon symbol?
http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy96/eaglenest/image.jpg1_zpsljl6toay.jpg (http://s781.photobucket.com/user/eaglenest/media/image.jpg1_zpsljl6toay.jpg.html)
It also got me thinking. On the 1985 (?) box art with "red tracks", there are three images at different stages of transformation. I wondered if there was a perceptible faction symbol on any of these images.
Looking at the print in Transformers Legacy and zooming in, I got these:
http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy96/eaglenest/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160119_18_20_41_Pro_zpsp3hlr2ve.jpg (http://s781.photobucket.com/user/eaglenest/media/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160119_18_20_41_Pro_zpsp3hlr2ve.jpg.html)
http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy96/eaglenest/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160119_18_17_58_Pro_zps6npmsu9x.jpg (http://s781.photobucket.com/user/eaglenest/media/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160119_18_17_58_Pro_zps6npmsu9x.jpg.html)
Which don't really look like a symbol at all, but letters, so I used the back of my G1 Roadbuster box to get:
http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy96/eaglenest/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160119_18_23_38_Pro_zpsh66p5ipi.jpg (http://s781.photobucket.com/user/eaglenest/media/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160119_18_23_38_Pro_zpsh66p5ipi.jpg.html)
And then this:
http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy96/eaglenest/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160119_18_20_49_Pro_zpsk57xjeny.jpg (http://s781.photobucket.com/user/eaglenest/media/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160119_18_20_49_Pro_zpsk57xjeny.jpg.html)
Much clearer image and is that not a DS? Maybe for Decepticon symbol? Why was the symbol never painted? And if "red Tracks" was supposed to be a Decepticon, why was Roadrage made an Autobot? Could the shape of the packaging for the coin be a nod to this?
Is this even a thing, or am I seeing things that aren't there? I'd love another opinion!

Rumour has it there were plans to have some of the Diaclone repaints made into Decepticon cars back in the 80's, hence MP Exhaust is a sort of homage to this idea.
However when it came round to releasing Road Rage in 2002 Takara probably decided to make her an Autobot because it made more sense to them at the time, or some other reason. This is all just theory really.

It's CS not DS FOR corvette stingray from the diaclone:

I should have done my homework.
Still think the coin packaging looks like a Decepticon symbol though.
