Up for preorder at TFSource for USD200.

http://tfsource.com/platinum/trypticon

They are listing a release date of July 2015. Amazing, after hardly any news since the Toy Fair its here in a couple of months?!?

Edit: just noticed that it was estimated for Jul 2015

Hoping it's in G1 colours (like the Coneheads and Blaster & Perceptor) and not in some odd colours (like Blitzwing and Astrotrain). Been waiting for a reissue Trypticon for years.

Interesting that RK are having a release date of 23rd June.

Local release would be great but it may be upwards of $300 given the recent pricing of platinum and MPs.

I'm interpreting it differently. The shipping quotes are to give an indication, not explicitly stated as the only option. But I've been wrong on rare occasions. :p

Using their postage calculator, standard shipping to Oz if permitted is US$53.71.

That's odd.
If Hasbro have told them to remove it, I wonder why... as other Reissues haven't had any official announcements by Hasbro. Maybe Trypticon is going to have a big announcement and Hasbro didn't want anyone stealing their thunder.

Wrong, TRU will get it. They already currently have two $300 Transformers I don't see why they wouldn't make it a nice 3.

Man the aussie dollar is a real kick in the guts. $200 would have been perfect but it'll go for $300 for sure. I do wonder how far Hasbro plan on taking this platinum re-issue line after the Dinobots. I hope they continue sets its a fantastic idea.

And yes, there are people who would buy it. I bought the last two masterpieces, for the English bios

A mirrored image can be found here (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generation-1-1/g1-trypticon-reissue-box-art-182825/) if anyone is having trouble tracking it down.

I'm rather impressed to see that it is the complete Gen1 version with all its accessories... after it was neutered for the JP Beast Wars toyline.

I'm getting tempted to collect all of these reissues just for the packaging... with all the nice artwork they've commissioned for them. (which we've seen on the Japanese Combiner box too)

If they can dig up these old moulds (original Gen1 Trypticon and Fort Max), I really hope they have more of the Japanese Gen1 toys on their release schedule.

I just read a report that the toy is selling in the Philippines for the equivalent of US$200 (9000PHP); so this doesn't bode well for the AU RRP. :(

$200 is about how much I paid for Encore Metroplex, but that was when the Global Financial Crisis sent the value of the AUD crashing down against the JPY. (-_-)

Who are they using to ship to Oz - do you know?
I ask because as someone who uses HK post a lot I can tell you Oz is cheaper than the UK to ship to and the heavier an item gets the more on par with the US the shipping price gets... OZ and NZ seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to shipping costs from a lot of places. Having said that I always find the shipping cost for RK annoying as even I have to pay 4 times what actual postage is to have their items shipped and I live under 5 km away from their warehouse. (They don't allow pickup.)

There's not much choice really. Purchase from Robot Kingdom and get ripped on the shipping, or wait even longer and get ripped harder by Toys R Us. I'd rather pay $AU270 to RK now and receive it the week of June 23rd, than wait months and pay probably $AU299 from TRU.

Makes me wish my work gave me TRU vouchers. Honestly though so far this is about the only platinum I would buy, I'd love to have it up on my top shelf next to Menasor, the only other one I've come close to getting is predaking, but call me strange... I prefer the 2004 jp reissue. But Tryptocon's a dinosaur! With frickin' laser beams! $270 isnt so bad...

Sucks that they don't allow pickup for someone who lives so close! I can't remember which carrier service it was, but it was the usual 3 options. In the end I pre-ordered using the cheapest option ($53.71US postage). Total came to $280AU... I'll just tell the wife that I won the lotto... yeah, that'll work... :eek:

I don't think he's THAT heavy. But the size of the box will proabably hit the postage cost. Cubic weight. Anyway, Here's a comparison pic I found. The only modern toy in it is um, none.

What a stupid price. There is no way in the world a *re-issue* Trypticon is worth more than a nice condition vintage one. Hell, for that kind of money if you research a little, you can even get it with a displayable original G1 box.

TRU have been known to slash prices of long shelfwarming toys too, e.g. G1 Commemorative Series reissues and Alternators reduced to $25 each. Mind you, TRU are equally known for sitting at high priced shelfwarmers for years and years too (e.g. Supreme Cheetor, MP Ghost Starscream)... but I fear that it will be the former. :( Or worse, if people just lap it up at their high prices, which would encourage TRU to continue this trend.

First an overpriced Defensor. Now this. Guess I'll be sitting some of these out.
I'm content with getting Hasbro's Defensor. It still comes w/ Legends Class Groove, so it's not as if I'm missing out on the character. I'm sure we'll get the mould later as Afterburner, which is fine by me. :) Unless Hasbro AU decides to import TakTOM Defensor later, I honestly don't know at this stage.

That is an absolutely disgusting exhibition of complete market-disconnect; Hasbro Australia, Toys R Us Australia, what a disgrace!

Why are people surprised? It's Toys R Us.

.

TRU's prices aren't always rip offs for their exclusive toys. There have been some which were released at reasonable prices, including:
* MP Starscream ($99)
* MP10 Optimus Prime ($150)
* MP Soundwave + Cassettes ($150)
* MP Rodimus Prime ($80→$60)

TRU pricing is based on Hasbro pricing... and the prices have been rising in all the other Hasbro countries since MP Soundwave. ToysRUs are just one of two chains (with Myer) that are willing to stock expensive collector toys, so they get tagged as the price-gouger. When in reality, if BigW were wanting to start stocking the collector-focused items like Masterpiece and Platinums, they would end up having the same price, because the wholesale price from Hasbro (in all countries) is already high.

Soundwave was probably the last Masterpiece that was cheaper than the Japanese version, and since people keep buying these things (not necessarily long-time fans - more the impulsive adults remembering the toys from their childhood), Hasbro just keeps bumping up prices. :(

As capitalism goes, it is basic supply and demand - but if they don't sell, they don't reduce prices of future releases, they just don't release anymore. :(

It's something I will comment on at BotCon to the Hasbro people, but I don't expect anything to change, because Hasbro HK have been leading the way for a few years now with their exclusives, and Hasbro America are now cashing in with theirs. :(

I was thinking about going with an Australian-based online retailer, like Premium Collectables who do free shipping for anything $150 or dearer. Even if it's cheaper than that, the shipping's relatively cheaper as it's domestic. Paying in AUD means that you also don't lose any money in ForEx.

Premium Collectibles pricing is very competitive. My issue with pre ordering through them is you need to pre order with full payment as long as 6 months in advance in some instances. But they don't offer Paypal. So what protection do I have in case something goes wrong after I place my order? Claiming back on the credit card is a pain. If they had Paypal like Robot Kingdom does then I'd be more willing to try out their pre orders.

As I was saying... ToysRUs here is not to blame for the high prices here... Hasbro America is. The YOTG pair have been found in America (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/1043306-platinum-soundwave-optimus-prime.html) - Optimus is US$200, and Soundwave is US$210. :eek:
That's AU$270 for Optimus and AU$285 for Soundwave, just on the current exchange rate for any Australian thinking of importing from America (before shipping). Considering our YOTG Optimus is AU$299, I think it is amazing that Hasbro Australia were even allowed to sell it that close to the US dollar value. And on sale, our YOTG Optimus would be cheaper than America.

But these prices are just getting insane for US Hasbro... especially if Asia is almost half that price (YOTG Optimus was about US$110 in HK).
All these Platinum and Masterpiece sets selling at whatever price they keep setting, just encourages Hasbro America to keep pushing the envelope... seeing just how far will the collectors really go on these toys.
And that's if we didn't have the usual double-markup that we get on the smaller size classes. If these were converted like our Deluxe or Legends toys, they'd be AU$400 and AU$420.
We actually get it better here for larger toys than smaller ones, but the larger ones look worse because of how high the price still gets (compared to foreign sources).
Even the Insecticons are less than double the US pricing, as they are US$80 in America (http://tformers.com/platinum-edition-reissue-insecticons-found-at-us-retail/25612/news.html), compared to AU$150 here. It's not much below half, but if we had a consistent conversion of all Transformers toys in Australia, we'd have even higher prices on the collector-aimed toys.
Plus, Hasbro's Masterpiece Prowl was US$70 in America (about AU$85 at the time), making our AU$100 price "cheap" when comparing to what a US$10 Legends toy costs here (currently AU$18-20).

If you think about it, the regular retail toys for the parents and kiddies in Australia are being charged at a higher rate than the Collector ones (the mainlines are charged about double the US pricing so that Hasbro America gets a certain commission from other countries), so even if you can still import the Collector toy for less, Hasbro Australia is not price-gouging the collectors... They are actually squeezing money from the non-collectors to offset the prices of the expensive collector toys.

maybe they're adopting the mobile gaming approach.
1. Cater to the whales (big spenders)
2. Discount for the commoners
3. repeat steps 1-2 a few times
4. clearance (end of life for current game)

On the plus side those TrU Trypticons will probably shelfwarm for a few years, which means no one need worry about where to get one when all the online retailers have long since sold out.
And heck, if one is patient enough maybe one would eventually be able to get one for the same price as the original one was in 1986/87 due to TrU clearance pricing :P

Full-tilt ready to launch.

As a stand along figure this guy is GREAT fun. My son had him stomping up and down the main corridor of our apartment and I have to say the slow walking style absolutely suits Trypticon. I'm not sure if the original had a drawn out walk as well as this is the first Trypticon we've ever owned.
He's very easy to convert to a city, although I haven't tried to reverse the process yet.
Some of the finishes on him (especially the purple) have the mould snap marks blatantly obvious and the sticker placement could be a little tidier but these are minor complaints.
I'm not sure he scales super well with most other figures given he's supposed to be a city but ah well.
My son loves the base mode too and spent the evening having legion sized Decepticons fighting off legion sized Autobots... so a good fun toy all around for both kids and us adult collectors alike. ;)

For those who didn't read it in the foreign toy sightings, he cost HK$1299 (AU$217).
Full album of pics here (https://www.flickr.com/photos/kiwiinoz/sets/72157652638696583), although I've posted most of them (unless you want to see my son absolutely delighted by Trypticon).

That's a really awesome story Bladestorm. You've trained your child to enable and fund your plastic crack habit, and you get the enjoyment of a playmate to enjoy them with. While you jest about it being the only reason to have him, its also a rare gift that some adult collectors never experience. You should cherish it :)
