Verno will be pleased in 2016! Though it looks so smooth, i can't imagine how it might transform?

Hrm. An unarticulated beast mode?
If the robot looks good. I'd go for it!

Maybe just a placeholder? Would 2016 be like a 20th anniversary of BW?

Would be hilarious if it was just a non transforming gorilla.

Masterpiece? Optimus Primal?
*pinches self* ow.. Wait. This isn't a dream? This isn't a dream!! :D
WOOHOOOOHOOOHOOO!!!!!!
I was worried we'd have to wait years for one of these after Star Saber won the fan vote.
That gorilla mode is.... Surprisingly smooth?
I NEED more pics of this NOW.
Actually I just need this now. It will be mine!
Finally a masterpiece I can get excited about :D

I guess my first questions have to be: How much do masterpiece figures cost? And where best to import them from?

If the Gorilla lacks any articulation or something like that, this would be a pass for me because I don't want a Transformer that transforms into a statue.

definitely transforms, look at the lines on the elbows and face , super excited for this, esp the scale and cartoon accurate:)

Look at the hands, though. They look solid. I'd be expecting hand articulation in an MP toy. So because Primal has the same hands in both modes, I'd say this is just a test-shot or a resin statue. It doesn't transform.

Didn't it say somewhere he's yet to be cut up to create the bot mode?

If I wanted a big rubber monkey I'd buy a King Kong figure

They really need to be concentrating on finishing up the line-up of Masterpiece G1 figures before they even think of doing Beast Wars.

After they have finished up with an MP of every character to appear from 1984 to 1990 they can do BW - until then my Robot Heroes Optimus Primal is more than enough for me. That said, an MP Optimal Optimus may actually hold some kind of appeal

I'll buy pretty much any MP they put out, but i also think the line could really benefit from a much more focused (and faster) roadmap.

They created a lot of excitement with Combiner Wars (releasing a whole bunch of figures in a set in quick succession). That's what i think they should be aiming for - and they're so close to finishing '84 you'd think they'd just pump them out first.

What? I own a version of the character and said Optimal Optimus might be worth a shot so it's not like I'm a Beast Wars hater. It's like Kurdt said - they should concentrate in finishing one line first - in this case the 400 or so G1 figures left to go ;)

And sorry - but this toy really does look like a big rubber monkey you'd buy in a bargain bin for a toddler

Nah. I'm thinking Masterpiece should expand into other eras. For instance, who, in their right mind, doesn't want a MP Super-Pants Prime? Imo that is what should have won the fan vote ;) Maybe they should throw in an Animorph or 2...

And of course it looks like it's made of rubber. It looks exactly like the animation model ;) Hopefully we get BW Megs to go with it. Complete with a little rubber ducky accessory

Sorry Trev, G1 Masterpieces peaked at Soundwave, it's about time they moved onto a Transformers iteration with... a little more bite (https://youtu.be/A9t7G_lHeiY). ;):p

I have to say, that TakaraTomy is aiming for 2016 to be the "Year of Masterpiece Beast Wars", in honour of Beast Wars' 20th Anniversary, is extremely exciting and that they're starting the ball rolling with a glimpse at this VERY EARLY VINYL PROTOTYPE is awesome! :D

Like many I've seen express, I'm blown away by the clear aim to be accurate to the original Mainframe Entertainment 3d Models - The teams that worked on that show must be elated on such a different level to we fans, not to mention Garry Chalk finally getting a Masterpiece figure!

I CANNOT wait to preorder MP Gorilla/Beast Convoy, aka Optimus Primal, and can only imagine that Verno, Firestorm, Gutsman & others are just as psyched as myself to see an MP (Beast) Megatron get shown at some point! :D:D:D

So no information on this Optimus Primal other than it being revealed on a screen. Speculation begins as to whether or not it will be a statue or a MP style Beastwars figure. Looking at picture I fail to see any thing about this that is transformable and if it could be, I say.......
Interesting to see a show accurate statue with talk of it being MP Transformer though I think more along the lines of ExGokin vinyl toy. I would love to be wrong.

It was standing on the opposite side of the stage in one of the pictures I think. Looked about the same height as Ironhide.

Personally I prefer my Transformer beasts made of metal. SO, if this was Transmetal Primal, then hells yeah.

As it is, I 'll wait to see what the robot mode looks like.

It looks quite obvious that the statue thing is just a teaser of what's to come. Much can change in a year! Woo Woo! Quite nice to see a shift to some BW.

Don't expect as big a leap in engineering for this toy as we see in G1 MPs. As you've rightly pointed out,t he engineering/design of the original Optimus Primal toy is so good, that there isn't really as big a margin for improvement as there are with G1 MPs. No doubt that this toy will be a big improvement over the original, but it just won't be as much of a leap forward. The original already features a well articulated robot mode. They could add wrist and maybe additional beast mode articulation, but otherwise there's not a whole lot they can do to make it that much more articulated than the original figure.

Some features I'm anticipating include:
* Face change feature between standard mouthed face and toy-accurate battle mask
* Prime jets (similar to what RM Beast Convoy has, but improved)
* Swords w/ chrome blades and blue hilts
* Chest will open up to reveal Energon Matrix chamber (which would also mean a limited exclusive Burning Convoy repaint of this toy down the track ;)).
* Battle mace (which the original toy has but never used in the show)

It'll be interesting to see how they approach the missile launchers. The original toy managed to stow them away with a covered up back on the beast mode, but leaving floppy beast kibble in robot mode. The Robot Masters toy did away with the kibble (looking more show-accurate in robot mode), but leaves two holes on the beast mode back. I suspect that the kibble will fold away first, allowing space for the launchers to swing out. The original toy couldn't do this because it was a spring activated gimmick, which I think they'll omit on the MP toy for the sake of better looks on both robot and beast modes.

Lord_Zed
22nd June 2015, 06:50 PM
There are many aesthetic changes they could make to Primal, all this gimmicks on the original toy give the gorilla mode a rather angular appearance for a beast. I imagine they will give the beast mode rounded arms. Also If they can figure out how to give the beast mode an articulated head (and on an MP budget why not?), that would be a big plus. The wrist guns could be made show accurate so the arm does not flip backwards. I imagine/hope they ditch the lame mace in favour of wrist guns in both arms like in the show.

GoktimusPrime
22nd June 2015, 09:44 PM
They could still include the mace, but simply do away with the stowage gimmick. After all, other MPs come w/ accessories that don't necessarily stow away. :) RM Beast Convoy already has forearm guns that pop up without the hands flipping back (http://blog-imgs-38-origin.fc2.com/j/u/u/juusankaidan/Imgp2669.jpg), albeit with forearm panels flipped up. But of course, that's a 1480JPY (≈AU$15) toy. I would imagine that on an MP budget, they should be able to pull off that gimmick with far more minimalised kibble. :) Might also be neat to have an interchangeable mouth between neutral (http://statici.behindthevoiceactors.com/behindthevoiceactors/_img/chars/char_89.jpg) and angry (http://www.jaylaw-geo.co.uk/jay-bird/Optimus_Primal_headshot.jpg). They could possibly even do the same for the beast mode face (http://i.ytimg.com/vi/edVNi0vHWJ4/hqdefault.jpg) too.

Exactly my thinking! I have the box sets of the DVD's which are great, and a Waspinator and a Depthcharge from the original toyline. However I was never really interested in the toys - organic alt-modes just don't do it for me
