Grimlock, Sludge, Slag, Snarl and Swoop in all of their G1 inspired glory

This doesn't bode well for actual G1 Dinobot reissues does it :(

It is a better all in in set than the SDCC one, but that did come with the Ark. Disappointing but if I was going to buy the AOE Dinobots this would be an appealing set.

Maybe someone put the AOE toy figures in the box as a joke and when we see the real reveal and the cover box it will have G1 toys.

Right?

Right?

Please...

Sigh, we know the G1 Dinobot moulds are lost/destroyed but I was hoping given the popularity of the Dinobot's Hasbro would find a way to make new moulds. After all, some CAD drawings or something from that era must still exist of the Dinobot's.

Sucks that this probably means no reissues. If the G1 headsculpts are good enough, I might get it. Snarl looks the part robot wise, maybe Slug/Slag. I'd much prefer gold than the toy accurate clear and silver on the chrome, though.

That sucks.

They said at Toyfair that it was Gen1 Dinobots, but I guess the written description was still accurate by meaning the Movie Dinobots. :(

It didn't help that it was in a list of other Gen1 toys that were Platinum Editions either.

In future, I'll keep everything told to me as a rumour or unconfirmed until I see it for myself... and probably even just keep it to myself.
Between this and MP-25 not being Ironhide... I don't think I'd have much credibility with future Toyfairs.

Hey man, this ain't on you in the slightest. I saw you initial posts and you did put a bit of a disclaimer on them because the information you received was like third-hand or something.

I can easily picture the reps at the convention getting mixed up with different releases because they're not as into the fandom as you are. It's not your fault that you were told the wrong info.

How much is this lot looking at costing anyway? I might consider it except for the fact that Swoop has two heads

And whats this about Ironhide? Are we still getting him as an MP and he is just not No 25, or are we not getting him at all?

llamatron

Fear not: Ironhide is MP-27, just not MP-25.

As for the Dinobot set, well, in the words of my kid: eww yuck poo-poo bum-bum.

Time to go get the WST boxset.

Must. Control. Rage.

No ill will directed at you Griffin, but hate hate hate towards whoever the hasbro rep was who can't tell his G1 from AoE repaints. I'd pay some serious dough for a Premium G1 Dinoset, and if third parties can produce affordable KO molds then I can't believe Has/Takara couldn't do the same and still they could whack on a high premium to make it viable.

You're right. G1 heads for everybody (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/transformers-platinum-edition-dinobots-set-will-have-brand-new-g1-inspired-headsculpts/33555/)

And like so many movie toys they are improved by having a traditional looking Transformer head.

Swoop looks a bit more like Armada Starscream to me.

Swoop looks a bit more like Armada Starscream to me.

I would like Swoop more if he were in show accurate blue rather than toy accurate red. Still there is now way I would buy an AEO Dinobots, I'm over 90% of Bayformers.

Since I'd never heard this news about Dinobots being released this year I don't share the same dissapointment that the rest of you have, though I completely understand it.

I don't think we will ever get reissues of the G1 Dinobots. I'd just be happy for a proper CHUG set of them. It seems so odd that so many less popular characters have gotten the Generations treatment (sometimes even more than one toy) yet the powers that be still haven't bothered with this highly popular group.

G1 Head-sculpts!?!? (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/transformers-platinum-edition-dinobots-set-will-have-brand-new-g1-inspired-headsculpts/33555/)

I now must have them! I must ensure my collection of AoE Voyager Grimlocks is complete!

I'll concede, I was originally against this set but seeing the G1 head-sculpts completely changed me. I love their look! Also it's in those really sexy Platinum-edition boxes that Hasbro have been doing really well with.

I wonder if these toys are being marketed as part of the Movieverse or Classicsverse; i.e. the mainstream Generations line w/o the "Age of Extinction" sub title. Hmm...

Was really looking forward to upgrading my current G1 Dinobots, as they were well loved toys in my youth... Oh well...

UltraMarginal
24th July 2015, 01:28 PM
I am really disappointed about this news, I don't even vaguely blame Griffin it's just disappointing, I've had money aside for months for this set. I never had a full set of G1 Dinobots, and half the ones I did have were the G2 coloured ones that never really scratched the right itch.

given the other platinum releases and the mention of G1 dinobots that the Hasbro rep made to Griffin, the expectation that this set was a reissue rather than a repaint with new heads is hardly a stretch.

This is a waste of plastic and I wouldn't buy them if the set was $10.

davieanix
24th July 2015, 02:21 PM
The new heads look cool, but then I remember that most of the moulds suck. Snarl and Slag are the best looking.

Not sure how I feel about it. G1 reissues would have been nice, but I was fairly indifferent anyway.

griffin
24th July 2015, 03:10 PM
I like the idea of the Gen1 heads, and would have made the SDCC & Amazon Dinobots even better.
This set, like the other Platinum sets this year, will probably be best just left in-box on display.

I'm just glad that I had a suspicion from the start that it was too good to be true, to not go proclaiming it all over the internet... instead, I had it buried in the Toyfair report for people to find. (and it was other fansites and fans who focussed on the Dinobots bit of the report)
It will still impact on the believability of any news from Australia in future (from anyone, not just me), based on the comments already posted on other fansites already.

It certainly proves the saying - pics or it didn't happen. :p

Defcon
24th July 2015, 04:23 PM
Yeah sounded to good to be true. I didn't have high hopes for a g1 reissue, but was excited that there may be a chance. But it seems they are not done yet with milking the movie dinobot molds. I do appreciate the G1 Style heads. But I feel bad for those who may have several sets of movie Dinobots already, and may already feel slightly annoyed.
If only G1 Style heads had some classics bodies to go with them. I wonder, its a shame when they originally designed these, that they didn't plan ahead to have some proper remolding to have a more classic aesthetic. This will be a maybe purchase for me.

So this set was on display at HK ani-com (HKAGC) today and I have to admit I burst out laughing when I saw it. I will upload some photos shortly, but after seeing it for real this is one dinobot set I will be passing on (my son collects most of the dinobots). In real life the figures almost look like knock offs! Even the head sculpts don't save the aesthetic of the set.

Well, I can't argue with Google, so... :P

Seriously though, the AOE Dinobots have a pretty clear medieval knight theme. As I've said before, part of that is the inclusion of the stylised sabotons that some fans choose to refer to as elf shoes. However, the only AOE toy that really has elf shoes is my old avatar, OSC Grimlock.

There is a Generations/G1 styled Cliffjumper - from the Classics line. Came out a fair few years ago. There is also the WFC Generations Cliffjumper and I picked up a little Universe Cliffjumper just this week. So that's at least 3 CHUG ones out there for you to grab :)
