Great stuff. No kidding, those feel more like Hot Rod's colours to me as a Marvel Comics fan than the movie's colours. I would buy this TakTom!

No doubt it will be released in both colour sets by someone.

Initially I was a little unimpressed with how flat the whole front of the robot is, but after looking at a few screen shots from the movie, I realise he does have a very plane chest and the detail comes out in the flame deco as so aptly demonstrated by above digibashes.

I'm liking it a lot. Hoping this kills the aftermarket price on MP-09 so I can finally get a MISB second run for a realistic price.

Somewhat disappointing that he looks like a scaled down version of MP-09 with some very minor refinements. I would expect that everything pegs together tightly this time around. I wonder if blockier proportions will make the alt-mode look better. I found MP-09 version of Hot Rod to be a little bit too pancakey up front.

That's what I thought - maybe the bonnet of the car hadn't been folded down all the way - but with the new pics I don't know. Maybe it's the position of the arms.

And there is just enough of Hotrod's nameplate in that second photo below to work out that it is indeed being called Hot Rodimus (the Japanese equivalent of Hotrod) and not Rodimus Convoy (the Japanese equivalent of Rodimus Prime - which was the name for MP-09, which means that this isn't "Hotrod Version 2" like some sites are calling it, because even Hasbro called their version of MP-09 Rodimus Prime, despite being Targetmaster Hotrod)

Personally, I like the fishing rod. A neat tribute to the character's introduction in the 86 movie. I don't care if it's unpainted as long as the finish is nice (look at KFC's Transistor to see why paint is not always the best option, much like rubber tyres), and the disc size is in line with some of the underwater scene in the movie (however it varies wildly, much like a lot of the animation models in that film).

And yes, though I believe the nickname used is "lunchtime special".

I had two on pre order and cancelled one .

I don't think I paid any attention to the rod at all, one of those things that takara can stuff it up and I don't even think about.

I think ironhide looks better than this for now.

After all the stuff that Ironhide came with, Hot Rod seems under-accessorised, so Kup's arm and leg would've been awesome!

Mp-9 was a living nightmare to have him hold any weapons, version one is so bad that joints broke. The transformation was very poor.

But mainly that is rodimus and this is hot rod, different characters.

He looks quite good in group shots, but compared to MP-09, he's definitely top heavy, which is a pity really! If his lower half were a bit thicker to offset the bulky top half, he'd be truly awesome!

I haven't had any problems with HLJ either, but I think a lot of people still have the Legends Fembot issue from last year (?) in their minds. And especially with popular Masterpiece figs, once they are gone, they are hard to find at a decent price. So probably a combination of things that just raises their nerves a little. I have confidence that HLJ will be fine but I do admit that when I others were getting their payment requests and I didn't get mine like I usually do (seriously the requests have arrived like clockwork for the last 6 months of my orders) I did get a little nervous.:o

I just retired my Hasbro Rodimus and turned MP-9 into Rodimus Prime. He's still a beautiful piece though I was really paranoid about adjusting and positioning him. But he's now where I want him and he shouldn't break just standing there, right?

Yes i replaced but i think it was in the works before news of the new Hot rod arrived. Mp-09 is such a disappointment that i would rather go without a Rodimus Prime than have 09 (the trailer was great though!). I don't think even a reissue with fixes can save him.

Yeah same designer. I have my fingers crossed that Hot Rod isn't fragile. MP-9 is one of those figures I worry about breaking if the shelf were knocked and he fell over. I know I would probably have to be hit by an earth quake to have that happen, but Queensland has had some earth quakes recently including a nearby one.

all four wheels don't sit flush on the ground in car mode. The collar stops them. I haven't had a very good play yet to see if I'm just missing something in the transformation, but yeah.

Spoiler/wing not straight. When looking at the car from front/rear the wing is tilted to one side slightly. Not much but enough to annoy.

Otherwise another very impressive figure.

Yeah clearance is really tight but you can get the wheels to sit flush, but you can't really get it to roll freely without the collar piece touch the surface it's on. I find that the trick is to push the shoulder connector pieces that have the wheels on as close as possible to the center piece, and of course peg the collar piece all the way in.

And the spoiler wings are supposed to tilt upwards I believe (at least on mine they are symmetrical).

I didn't think much of Hot Rod from the pictures, but once in hand, he's definitely a lot better! And on top of that he's got great playability!

So definitely a good job for an MP rookie!
