And after seeing these pictures I have no regrets about pre-ordering Shockwave.
Still not sure about Hot Rod as I already have the Hasbro Rodimus, but maybe this will change.
Any idea whether or not Hot Rod still has the gimmick to become Rodimus Prime in robot mode? Just wondering how different this guy will be to his predecessor.

Premium Collectables (http://www.premiumcollectables.com.au/) still have Shockwave (http://www.premiumcollectables.com.au/products/takara-tomy-mp-shockwave) and Hot Rod (http://www.premiumcollectables.com.au/products/takara-tomy-masterpiece-hot-rod-2-0) available, and at $169.95 AUD and $99.95 AUD respectively they seem to be the best value for money compared to the current exchange rate

AE may beat the current PC prices but the shipping will be where it all pans out PC to be better.

In honestly if I seen these pics I may hold back on hot rod, it doesn't look much better ATM

Oh and to those who were questioning about prototype pics. This is why I trusted the info rather than just a cartoon shadow.

Shockwave looks great but why is the con symbol on the forearm :confused:
Hot Rod looks rather plankish as a bot but car mode is spot on.

Yeah I'm quite relieved he scales well with them, I thought from earlier pics he would be much smaller

Coloured prototype MP Hot Rod looks oddly lanky like G1 Rodimus Prime toy.

However, i think that's because the picture itself is distorted (I don't have an MP-22 to compare against the photo, but i think the MP-22 cab looks unusually short in the photo).

Sounds like MP Ultra Magnus is being reissued at the same time, to go with Hot Rodimus... and a Legends (Generations) Springer reissue (minor redeco), for a bit of a 1986 Movie anniversary theme happening (despite that movie coming out in in Japan in 1989).
It seems that TakaraTomy are commemorating Hasbro's anniversary of the movie.

Shockwave looks great, but a translucent light up blaster arm would have been really good. Sure cartoon accurate, but c'mon. :) Here's hoping for fist and blaster accessory pieces. Reflector and a mini gun mode shockwave would be really good inclusions.

up for preorder on AE

Those prices look very good. 5600¥ for Hot Rod will come out to about $66 then add say $20-25 for shipping is pretty close to PC's first run at $85. Shockwave pricing of 11,760¥ is also pretty good, including shipping will likely be a bit above initial PC pricing but in line with their current asking price.

I'm waiting to pre order from NY once theirs are up. Shockwave looks amazing and I love Hot Rod's alt mode.

drifand
2nd October 2015, 10:20 PM
Yeah 2nd run PC looks over priced now when you compare to AE .
Luckily for me I had rewards points to lower it but given a choice now I will try ny

After checking what I paid I have basically just slightly cheaper than AE as I bought shockwave cheap but hot rod is expensive.

Shockwave's back is a cop out, and his feet are a bit lame but I still love it. Hot Rod, I'm still not sure about, he's almost too close to MP Rodimus. Also I wish they'd show a car size comparison.

I don't have MP Magnus but can't the car size by inferred from this picture?

New pics of hot rod shows a bit more articulation of the joint but the hands are better.

I still want my straight car to car comparison pic. Shockwave got a bot to bot one, so only fair.

Also I wish they'd done a clever cheat to shrink his chest a bit, like with Rodimus.

What's up with the backpack on Shockwave? That plus the lavender shade plus the dull ultra-80s styling... nah, not for me.

kurdt_the_goat
3rd October 2015, 12:36 AM
As long as the chest is the same piece as the hood, one or the other is always gonna be a little wrong - Hot Rod's chest (orange part) tapers at the bottom into a flat bottom (like a hexagon), whereas the car mode has it like MP9 and this new one, going from the sides directly into a (slight) centre point.

On another note, it's kind of amusing that this smaller Hot Rod can store the larger MP-10 Matrix whereas they gave MP-9 that piddly little one!

drifand
3rd October 2015, 07:22 AM
does anyone feels that the hot rod disc blade looks overly huge?

I have to be honest, I don't think is worth PC's second run pricing for me at the moment and feeling a little let down. Its really a scaled down rodimus.

Good for those who don't have mp9

Paulbot
3rd October 2015, 08:20 AM
Yes the blade is a bit too big but no big deal

Shockwave's backpack seems to be storage space for the gun barrel (most pics) and/or gunstand (one of the pics) so presumably you could just leave that off.

You'd probably have to wait for a future Hasbro or Takara Mall release for a more toy accurate darker purple.

Maybe someone can come and tell me they cut cost and make the wheels non rotating.

Other than the chest being a little flat in robot mode, Hot Rod looks pretty solid. Car mode is a beast, with the boxiness of the G1 toy.

Laserwave/Shockwave though is a real beast. He's got that curvature in the legs and gun mode that Quakewave didn't have (the boxy legs were what I disliked about QW). I like the paler colours and think he suits the G1 cartoon model quite well. Want.

I really want to Pre-order Shockwave, but I think I'm not liking that purple. If they had left it in prototype I may have ordered already but now I'm hesitant. I'm not specifically after toy accurate colours, or even cartoon accurate colours. But not Lavender purple, I never liked that colour on the henkei Cyclonus.
The figure looks outstanding though.

Can't say the same for Hot rod, but looks good enough.

I don't really care much for Hot Rod - I'm perfectly happy with my MP9.

Shockwave on the other hand... I'm seriously considering it. Not sure if I'll try preordering or if I'll take my chances with eBay upon release again.

On the colour: I don't mind the colours in the photos, but I can't help but wonder if the lighting in the photos is making the colours a bit lighter than they actually are.

Really? I know that MP Rodimus isn't the easiest toy to transform, but I don't think he's that hard. I can think of quite a few similarly or even more challenging toys to transform, such as:
* Break (and he's only a Basic!)
* Mach Kick (Deluxe!)
* Big Convoy
* Binaltech Wheeljack & Grimlock
* MP Megatron
^The last 3 are ones in my collection that I simply do not enjoy transforming and have only ever done so a few times.

Well from a vehicle mp point of view i am with him, i didn't enjoy the transformation process and left it in robot form. The hasbro version was actually better but i still didnt like it.

I am sure some people can probably transform ultra magnus three times before you are half done with Rodimus

I don't mind both but shockwave is the one I am looking. This is what happens when you recreate an existing character. Yes there will be interest but at this stage I would jump on ironhide and shockwave before hot rod.

It's more the issue of lining everything up as well. And the fear of hoping his ankles don't end up popping off (like how some people have it happen to them, while he's just sitting on the shelf). I've Transformed thousands of figures in my lifetime (I'm sure you've done a heck of a lot more). But he's the only one so far I'd say that scares me when I attempt it :D

I of the two mp that I need an instruction to ensure transformation is correct.
The other is Megatron.

I got use to transforming mp-09 that i didn't need instructions/instructional vid. Megatron i've only transformed twice with instructions. 1st time took like 40 minutes! 2nd took ~20.

Nothing beats a bit of chest analysis when you're supposed to be working :D
It really is a pretty good compromise, given the size they're working at and the significant difference in shape between robot chest and car hood.

i don't have mp-9 so i am pretty interested but that bot mode hood does look a little odd. i wonder if this would bring down mp-9 prices once it is out. would also like to see them side by side.

Yeah PC does not also always assure there will be a coin (unless they put it in the listing) so i think i will go with NY or HLJ (in case need to cancel) with their pay later scheme. I am also having a problem with Transdirect and it will cost me additional if i request AU Post.

On the other hand, Takara Tomy Mall's Laserwave listing looks rushed with some details misleading such as box size (listed as same as Ironhide and Hot Rod). Also says does not need battery but the Item description says battery not included) :confused:

yeah but i find it really hard to get a store which has more than 1 figure i want at the moment and i don't know how much extra postage will be but i know that premium collectables gives free postage after a certain amount, which i qualified for so for the sake of $5 or $10 i'm ok with going local :)
