Me too! Gotta wait for lunchtime to have a proper look rather than a sly look at non-work stuff, but what I see looks pretty good

I noticed the Decepticon cassettes in the Blaster photos. Hope this means we get a huge headmaster version of Soundwave too!

So many characters I've wanted in the what they're meant to be! A proper Skullcruncher (even looking better than FP's) and Voyager scaled Galvatron + Blaster! So much G1 Season 3 goodness!

RID Decepticons look great too. Still haven't watched the cartoon, but am keen on getting these guys to be used as grunts!

Blaster looks brilliant. The only thing I can say is they missed a great opportunity for him to - instead of turning into a battle base bristling with guns - turn into a rock show stage with mikes and spotlights instead. That would have been very cool and in shape could have been pretty much the same as his battle base mode is.

Nightbeat is the drill near Hardheads foot in the silhouette, Terri-bul is the monster, both appear to be headmasters, but I'm not sure if either has a robot mode, at least none shown in the preview pics.

While I do like both Blaster & Galvatron, im not sure I like that both Are Headmasters.

A good point - I'm indifferent to the gimmick as long as it hasn't affected their distinctive aesthetics. Judging from the pictures, I think I can finally set aside Device Label Blaster as his proportions has always been hard to reconcile into my classics collection.

Not sure how keen I am on a headmaster Galvatron or Blaster, I'd rather them use the gimmick on re-making G1 toys then applying it to non G1 headmasters, but that's probably the purist/nostalgiac in me :p
Saying that, Hardhead and Skullcruncher are great! And really glad they are finally adding to the Decepticon RiD 2015 warrior class roster, it's been pretty bare with only Steeljaw there to lead his little one step army

Hmmm... to snap up Galvatron right off the bat, or to wait for the inevitable toy colours repaint? Decisions, decisions...

I've been waiting for a decent Generations Galvatron that's worthy of the character since before the awful Universe version was released. I currently have Superlink Galvatron General acting as a "stand-in" for him. But now the problem is that I've grown to live Galvatron General so much over the years that I don't want to part with him. I suppose that's a good argument to wait for the repaint.

Blaster looks cool too. I particularly like Skullcruncher. But this might be another year where I'm not willing or able to resist buying into the line, like with Combiner Wars.

It appears to be an amalgam of both American & Japanese headmaster lore in that the heads are not human or nubelon, there are transformers themselves. But the body is also a distinct character, not an unformed transformer with no personality.

Good lord does that Skullcruncher crap all over the Fansproject one (i say with disappointment cause i really like that line). Hardhead looks great too, now i'll just cross my fingers they scale with my FP versions :o

Galvatron looks good too... is it leader or voyager size? I'm gonna assume that's a test bed for MP Galvy (kind of following the MP/Generations Ultra Magnus lead, but in reverse). Bring it on!!

So awesome.

Just had a quick look during lunch break. If I'm not mistaken, that little grey figure next Galvatron is his headmaster, who totally looks like Megatron. AND I think it transforms to a Megatron head, and the Galvatron mask is a separate piece that is attached to the body...

Bidoofdude
8th October 2015, 02:52 PM
Skullcruncher looks near perfect, colours spot on. Same goes for Hardhead.

Galvatron's a beefy dude but he looks ready. Alt mode is spot on, as is the arm cannon. I presume the shoulders aren't fully rotated over those otherwise annoying Decepticon symbols on the side of the torso. I hope he's not that big a leader. I reckoned he'd be a leader, because having a voyager Galvy and a leader Megs would be kind of weird.

Blaster is just pure gold. Alt mode looks nice, as does base mode. Rewind is great too.

The only thing I find with Thunderhoof is from a farming point of view he doesn't make any sense. I had assumed when watching the cartoon he was some kind of snow plow to begin with but the toy shows that he is a farm tractor. However the rake or plow (not sure which it is supposed to be) should be on the back, not the front. You only put a fork or a bucket on the front of a tractor. If it was a bigger styled tractor like a harvester you could be a thresher or a combine on the front. Where has the reality in regards to giant-alien-transforming-robots farming alt-modes gone? Fie I say!

However I like the fact that he looks like a deer in robot mode and turns into a John Deere styled tractor :D - wonder if they did that on purpose

More headmasters will always be cool.
But I really, really don't like Galvatron's arms. They just so hollow and oddly proportioned.

Does Galvatron have a third mode? It looks like there is some sort of cockpit hanging off his back in robot mode and I can't see what happens to it in vehicle mode. I'm wondering if there might be some sort of piloted space cruiser mode as a homage to Energon Galvatron.

So are the heads purely mini Head-formers riding a simplistic vehicle?

Also, Rewind's tank mode is very reminiscent of Metroplex's Scamper drone. Hope they do a white repaint down the line!

Blaster seems to out of scale for Classics so he will be going on my MP shelf. Actually in general Gen Leaders seem to be too big for Gen (exception being Ultra Magnus). If I ever get Gen Jetfire or Megatron, they will be going on my MP shelf.

This is like the Japanese Headmaster toyline, which had the big bots come with heads, and then individual heads were sold on their own (because the heads controlled the bodies, so why not have mix and match... which is why they had the spec meters in their chests, to show how much each head powered a particular body).
The difference here will be that the single heads will come packed with a transformable vehicle, to make it worth buying. (individual heads on their own wouldn't be as sellable to parents and retailers)

Paulbot

Hardhead, Skullcruncher and Rewind look perfect to me. Can't wait to get those.

A bit unconvinced about the "junior" headmasters are now just heads (Nightbeat, Siren, Horri-bull, Squeezeplay). Also not buying into Stripes at this stage.

Blaster is a very nice looking bot. The design of the head (Twincast) really makes me think less of the Headmasters and more of the Motorvators/Brainmasters.

Galvatron looks great but the demo model appears to have too many Decepticon logos on his chest. I suspect we might, like with Magnus, end up with a CHUG and MP version of the character coming out in the same year.

Ok, Looking at those pics Galvatron may just replace Mania King, Blaster is bought, as are all the Legends - and those Deluxe's look great too.

The heads I'll probably pass on, unless there's a hack to get Nightbeat's head mode on Hen Nightbeat.

I'm going to be so broke next year... Going to have to start putting money away now.

Pretty cool, if Hardhead and Skullcruncher really are deluxe's then I'm impressed as they look rather good compared to today's simplistic deluxe combiner limbs. I was excepting them to be like Brainstorm big simple and hollow. If they are deluxe size then I might just grab those. I need to see them in the packet to believe it though.

That Rewind looks awesome, but I sure hope they sell him separately from Blaster, because Blaster I am not taken with. I'm not a fan of the size disparity between Leader class toys and all the other sizes, particularly when they Leader class toys only different because they are big, and just as hollow and limited in articulation as a deluxe.

Galvatron I can't decide if I like, its cool that there is a bit of IDW styling going on, but all that kibble on his arms is a turn off, and his gun mode seems to have no more clever a transformation than the G1 toy.

Poor Nightbeat, Horribull and co got left out though, which sucks. I did the gimmick but where's some proper robots, and Fangry dammit???

Dunno why they didn't just call them Headmasters.
Perhaps they want to leave themselves open to releasing other kinds of figures in the future, like Targetmasters, Powermasters etc. :o Although Combiner Wars does have a lot of figures that don't combine (e.g. all the Leaders, many Legends etc.) -- perhaps they wanted to go with a less prescriptive title to avoid confusion. :o Because when I was running the Hasbro booth at the EB Games Expo, I often had to explain to people that although this line was called 'Combiner Wars,' not every toy can combine, and I did get people who asked me why non-combining toys would be part of 'Combiner Wars,' blah blah blah... so yeah, I guess to a lot of the more casual fans it's something that is less ambiguous. :)

Those are CGI renders they always look good, the real toy is a maybe, the orange seemed to mute all the details in some of the photos they showed.

I agree they should pay more attention to IDW, but he's supposed to look like this:

Still as the only Sentinel Prime that's not Animated or Movie, I guess he will have to do.

My money says it was actually Astrotrain first, but they are doing what they did with Alpha Bravo and releasing the repaint/remould first.

They can get more sales of the repaint with new mould freshness, and then still get good sales for the major character the mould was intended to be.

Describing Astrotrain as a major character is going a bit far. He's the Decepticon equivalent of a BUS.

This article at TFU.info has popped up (http://www.tfu.info/issue14/hasbronycc15.htm), adding a couple of details that might have been missed or not mentioned at all by Hasbro at NYCC, that I thought was worth noting...

The "Prime Wars Trilogy" (being Combiner Wars, Titans Return, and something else), is set for a four year run, and will continue alongside any future movies during that time.

The Titans Return toys will be released from "Fall" 2016 in America (which is our springtime - so about Aug/Sept)... which is probably why there are only two waves of Combiner Wars revealed for next year as the Generations line will then be re-labelled as Titans Return.

He was one of the few non-scramble city characters from Season 2 that also cropped up quite a bit in season 3 as well. And he was the major focus of a few episodes in season 2 like when he tried to take over the Decepticons with Blitzwing and when he tried to take over that moon full of aliens. Plus he seems to be a staple in the IDW comics, though often as a 'bus' I'll grant you :)

Yeah its a heavy retool and its very hard to tell but Every time i look at it now i can see bits of brainstorm, mainly in the lower arms and upper legs. the forearms look remoulded and no longer have the cover on the inside, and the legs have a similar panel on the sides.

Not to mention the jet mode how similar they look when put together, except on galvatron its flip up the jet nose and add the cannon and the legs are more spread out to become wings rather than put together.

Dunno - maybe the designers came up with 2 different Brainstorm toys and both were too good to ditch so Hasbro decided to release both, just a couple of years apart.

That is total speculation on my part though :o. I'd just be happy with a commemorative reissue of the G1 ones as Highbrow and Skullcruncher are the only ones i have - they are just too expensive on the secondary market now to justify buying :(

Alpha Trion looks rad, but not an insta-buy. Can't wait for alt mode.

Astrotrain looks phenomenal, but no cartoon colours (unless he's silver or something and it looks white-please just once Hasbro). Looks like Takara for me, or tracking down a Henkei. If Hasbro release two versions, one with white and one with grey (kind of like Onslaught), that would be cool.

Ok, so I'm glad to get new versions of most of these characters and hopefully I can now stop wanting G1 versions of the Headmasters and Headmaster Jrs.

Because it's so extensive I think Fort Max looks less like a remould and more like they used the same basic design.

I might actually look at third party guns for the guys that are Targetmasters in G1 just to have something a little more like I remember.

As usual I'll wait to see Takara redecos of them and probably end up buying Takara's version.

I'm betting the Takara Tomy version will be cartoon accurate like the Henkei was. I have noticed on my Henkei Astrotrain that the chrome hasn't held up well, yet another bad application of chrome from the late 2000's.

Fort Max's armpit looks a boit like the back of Metroplex's arm, with the sliding hinge, where metros arm flips around the corner. Maybe they've adapted Metros body using the back as Max's front.

I think the larger class characters have a "helmet" of sorts that goes over whatever "Titanmaster" is in place, so the heads should look a little more in scale. Not sure if this is the case with the Deluxes though (probably not)

Apparently the heads connect the same way as 2014's Voyager Brainstorm, so sticking his noggin on the Deluxe Brainstorm could be pretty funny

Maybe they just needed an additional feature for the Headmaster to interact with (aside from riding the beast/vehicle in alt mode). I suppose it's a less intrusive gimmick that you can choose to ignore if you wish - unlike some of the Minicon interaction gimmicks in Armada.

True - though that's why I love my (original - not CW) Armada Megatron so much. He had so many little extra play options like grabbing claws to catch Mini-Cons, ramps for them to go up and down, flip out rocket launchers when you attached them etc. The rest of the Armada line could have taken a leaf out of Megs book - some of it was just intrusive like you say and in the end not much fun

Wow, that Galvatron is bright...

I'm guessing it's just a prototype/sample. Surely there is no way Hasbro would change the colour so drastically.

I'm having second thoughts about Blaster. Just not sure if I can get over the whole, "But he's not a Headmaster" Gee-Wun hang up (I realise that this is completely just my own personal thing). I can accept PM Optimus Prime as a Headmaster since:
1/ Powermaster/Headmaster -- it's still binary bonding.
2/ The original G1 PM Optimus Prime was originally going to have a transformable head (transform into Roller), but the gimmick was abandoned. So it's a neat (if incidental) homage to what was intended for the G1 toy.

The lighter and dull looking grey on PM OP looks disappointing. Hopefully it'll look better than that IRL. Although it is G1 accurate, as the original PM OP had a similar shade of grey too (only Takara's Ginrai had that darker metallic grey; and Hasbro's 'reissue' was essentially just a repackaged Ginrai toy (with that ridiculous missile)).

The helmet that goes over the headmasters for Blaster looks like an actual whole head covering helmet, compared to the mask that sat in front of Galvatron's headmaster head. Prime's helmet may be similar.

If it doesn't have to compress before folding down (into a back cavity or something), you may be able to to just leave the headmaster in the helmet, and just say that's how his head folds out.

There does seem to be a little cost cutting in the paint apps with these toys, at least based on the pics we have seen so far, particularly with the Headmaster companions, granted that some of the original toys were sparse on paint, but we've certainly seen Hasbro do better.

When you compare the engineering, articulation (amount of joints for posing) and panel sculpting of the Generations toys at the moment, to the RID toys (the Warriors), it is understandable that Hasbro would be trying to cut as much cost as possible, for toys that have a smaller production run, but sold at about the same price-point or size (Deluxe to Warrior).
The worst of the Combiner Wars Deluxes is still better than the best of the RID 2015 Warriors... when you compare the sculpting, articulation and overall engineering/design of the toys.

I'd much rather have the Generations toy come with less paint apps, than be simplified to RID standards as an alternative cost-cutting method.
(and if you want the paint, chances are that they will be released by TakaraTomy, so don't waste your time complaining about the Hasbro versions people, as there will be a better alternative if you are willing to pay extra for it)

I can't enough of Hasui's sketches.

But that's pretty much the case with every toy and the reality of being a toy designer. Every figure has a tight budget which they have to stick with. If they'd made the toy according to everything that Hasui wanted, then it would've blown the budget and the toy might cost $500, which wouldn't sell in commercially viable quantities to justify the cost of development and production. Transformers has been this way since the 1980s, it's nothing new or surprising. e.g. one of the prototypes for the Diaclone Battle Convoy toy (original Optimus Prime) featured longer antennae, longer smokestacks, the "Freightliner" logo sculpted on the actual front grille, as well as being able to attach the rifles onto the shoulders. These features may have been dropped in the final product due to budgetary reasons. We know that Ginrai was simplified for Powermaster Optimus Prime to conform to a lower price point (similar to how Combiner Wars Computron is a cheaper version of Unite Warriors Computicon, but is also notably cheaper), and the prototype for Godbomber (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/7/7f/ProtoGodBomber.jpg) was also a more complex toy - being less of a partsformer than the final product - but Ono Koujin has stated in an interview that this was abandoned due to budgetary reasons.

True. But this is not just any regular toy. A modern take on Fort Max is hardly the character they will ever have a chance to revisit. It's similar to Titan Devastator, where Hasui even said in the interview that he felt like that was the closest he'll ever get to designing an MP Devastator. And he had to drop a lot of ideas to meet budget for the Generations version. Luckily they were able to put the extras in the UW release. But not so lucky this time as the TT Fort Max has virtually no extra feature. I echo what a lot of people have said, it's "a missed opportunity".

It is also extra sad that Hasbro demanded Fort Max to re-use a certain number of parts from the Metroplex mold. And probably a substantial amount of budget went into making sure the Headmaster gimmick works.

Sure, but Hasbro's insistence on reusing the Metroplex mould is most likely to recoup from the costs of R&Ding the Metroplex mould in the first place, thus making Metroplex relatively more affordable. There's not a whole lot more in terms of redeco potential for Metroplex (Metro-Titan is quite obscure, even in Japan). It'll be interesting to see if HasTak can figure out a redeco for Trypticon.

My understanding is that it was Takara that suggested that they could use Metroplex parts to reduce design costs for unique parts, and bring those savings into other, more significant areas of Fortress Maximus, and thus achieve a more recognisable design than if it had been designed from scratch.

Definately not a fan of that Leader Soundwave. Looks a bit plain and chunky.
Having seen Soundwave MISB IRL... I'm also still not impressed.

I saw that on FB and grabbed it. Kinda nifty :) It has all the tech specs and bios from the characters and a couple of simple narrative comic book style illustrations of the figures. They look pretty detailed and toy accurate. I guess a modern take on the old catalogues, just missing the check boxes! :)

Cybertron Con has revealed some interesting items with Leader Sixshot, Voyager Prime and Deluxe Hotrod. I can see Voyager Prime getting an Octane repaint.

I personally think Hotrod looks fantastic and will be a great replacement for the aging 2006 Universe figure, can't wait to see what TakTom do with it.

I personally found myself going polar opposite on Soundwave in that I had no desire whatsoever to pick him up based on official photography to TAKE MA MONEY the moment I saw him, but each to their own :)

It's great to see that more detail is given on these characters. Sadly the same can't be said for the cards that come with the toys (they only give the statistics).:(
