It seems that Toynami's soon releasing a new version of the Voltron Lion-bot anyway - so it's really a toss-up whether you'd still wanna chase this MadGokin version (which technically isn't 100% accurate) or go for the new Toynami version.

If you are referring to the new Toyami version that does actually looks a bit off, is nowhere probably where this one stands.

Personally, I don't think I be bothered even if Bandai comes out with one offical version now, thats how high the standard Mad Toys has made. I must love Voltron really a lot to ditch this solid toy.

Toynami for me is exactly Robotech situation on Macross. They want stand alone rights on any Voltron products and is not willing to share any part of the cake. Hence why Bandai is not able to make thier SOC version of Golion Basically if you support Toynami you are supporting harmony gold.

I do agree that Madtoys version is as solid as heck - a lot of diecast metal and I reckon it will outlast you!

No solid proof that it was toynami as such, but all evidence suggests it

Think I read somewhere that Toynami shut this down so there's no more in production.
Madgokin had their own website setup for ordering with bonuses. Everyone was happy, then after someone linking it to toynamis facebook page their website mysteriously went off line. Some shops did manage to get some in the end, so there are a few floating around the place, but no chance of getting a new one unless it's been sitting around at that particular shop.

Pretty much this. The madgokin is super duper nice, aside from a couple of flaws. There is a new official one due at the start of next year. Which I was all excited for when I saw the protoype images for, but after seeing these coloured ones, I am less keen on.... (http://news.toyark.com/2015/07/09/sdcc-2015-toynami-voltron-165819). Also, considering how they think they can charge $234 for a static vinyl figure (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TOY10621&mode=retail) and $220 for the relatively unimpressive (compared to madgokin) Anniversary Voltron (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TOY10608&mode=retail) (which the original mould sold for less than $100 when it first came out with die caste bits IIRC), I think you can see what your options are. The new version is all plastic and slightly stylised, but I don't think it looks that bad. I'm slightly curious to see how it is and how much it costs. I think it'll be above $200 though.

Personally having never heard/seen anyone use LCM, I'd be inclined to email them first to make sure they actually still have some and you can make an educated guess a sto whether to proceed from there

The madtoys version is good but I have soc with a lot more metal as well.

For me I never been a Voltron fan but I knew the toy as golion and pretty much not overly picky on toon accuracy but if accuracy is what you looking for then Toynami is the only one to go.

Possibly. Regardless, someone spooked madguysz, toy ordering became a tad shakey, but came through somewhere I have mine so yay:D

I believe it was WEP. Someone told on Madtoys to WEP for whatever reason.
So madtoys shut down everything after preorders went up.
I believe they came to an agreement with each other but during that time they asked everyone not to talk about the toy.
Production still went ahead as you know but I think there was only 1 production run.
madtoys is no more though they may have changed thier name.
They did have some awesome upcoming figures. Guess we will never see them.

It sucks tho. Toynami does nothing with the toy license or comes out with crap.
This company comes out with something that was made with a lot of TLC cause they are fans too and they get punished for it.
doesn't seem quite fair. Especially for the fans.

The thing is Toynami works with harmony gold hence you can see why I feel this company is no different as they build robotech toys.

One of the reviewers actually chat with the Toynami boss and was like brainwashed thinking Toynami is a friendly company. The fact is this is the company that is not allowing any macross or Voltron products to be made in us.

Just because Toynami does own the rights to the offical Voltron does not mean they can make solid toys.

The madtoys Voltron will remain a part of history in my toy collection.

Good attempt. If I was not told about this licensing fiasco I would have let madtoys go.

It's all gone pretty quiet now - I think those who pre-ordered early on for the Madtoys were supposed to get a sticker set of some sort (numbers?) but I never got mine even though I did contact them again - ah well - might have to find numbered stickers elsewhere I guess.

If I am not mistaken a few accessories from version 1 had more but this version has more colours added to shield and body. I do wished they actually change the green in the lion as since is wep approved it should now be more anime accurate.

Not sure I agree with 80% die cast, it's heavy but still lots of plastic in several areas.

Is the best Voltron out there.

One thing that is still quite wrong on the Mad toys is the green lion isn't a match green to the official Voltron imo. That should be one change that actually could make people second dip as well.

Kinda shame they did not think about it as there were minor changes done but this would actually make a difference.

Hey actually the connecting joints on the leg may be a great improvement.

The numbering does make it slightly more polished as well.

The extra articulation , the clean up with the connection joints, the numbering, are all good factors to second dip.

I am definitely keeping this piece now and may sell version one. I still like version one, is just that these pics do justify lots of improvements. And these are improvements based on complaints that we found, so I do feel that this company does listen to feedback.

It was $269? Lucky I bought two. :)

I am not sure about "red" eyes as opposed to yellow as the yellow one stands out a bit more.

The cleaner wing paint app looks better same goes for the body.

I think the only complaint now is the green lion and the lion's legs could bent at angle rather than straight.

Premium collectables have it on pre order for April release. I already ordered two before these updates came on.

They are alright, but do not expect perfection boxes every time. Communications could be faster but I have ordered some items from them.

Not always the cheapest though so make you do your shopping research before you order.

Mad Toys hasn't yet secured the license for Voltron
Mad Toys has secured the license but the toy design itself has to be approved by WEP.

Converting the AU$420 into USD gets you roughly US$295, so i'm guessing that's the RRP they are using.

As for the release date, i've got no idea at all! But as with their non-competitive prices, i'm not surprised that they're offering the figure late as well! :p

For me the wrist to turn is more an upgrade than firing head.
Of course is all up to individual.

The other thing was the holes in the leg joint is removed

And number lions.

I still like version one but I will sell it once I obtained version two.

Yes, I am well aware. But the lion head swivles and the elbow slight twists is much better. Hopefully it's actually more than just a swivel and he can point his sword too.

Any idea on how limited this will be? If at all? I saw some pics of it while cruising through some Wonderfest images too, so rather hoping he'll crop up on Amazon.

OK initial excitement has died down. Sculpt and accuracy look to be killer, but it still has dangly lion legs. And huge joint gaps on the shoulders. Still... will be watching closely! Edited the image for a clearer look:

I am glad I still hung on to version one, I have this feeling this still is the best of the lot but will see the soc one.

I have came across many who stated the soc is like fat Voltron. But what do we know other than pictures seen so far.

Yes I think what I meant to say was bandai sealed their fate as they paid wep extra to ensure madtoys are nowhere in the picture.

I am a bit suspicious that they been paid to keep quiet as they have not even attempt to communicate in their Facebook site. Maybe they are paid to do nothing till soc sales are done.

Yes I agree madtoys made a bad move with wep and actually had a stupid comment on fb which may have offended wep in the licensing process.

I think I will ask for my refund as I don't think this is happening anymore which is such a shame.

You can give it a check, I think lcmtoys are refunding if asked and so is PC as madtoys are not even communicating with them.

"we have been unable to confirm from Mad Toys, any updates regarding the mad toys voltron lion. We feel enough time has passed for Mad Toys to respond to us regarding an ETA."

Utoys were supposed to take over this but it failed to be advertised in their Hong Kong fair so as far as license is concerned they were not getting it.

I think wep gave them a very stern warning that if they try to pull a under table thingy like last version, they be really be hung in court.

Being said, someone did had an initial pre released version of this and posted in fb but never said a single thing more.

For those who are I got a reply:

Let me explain the situation now.

Actually, the production of both version Golion have been completed
and they are ready to launch to market. (Just waiting for final
license approval from WEP.)

But you should know Bandai will launch Golion at December as well.

Bandai don't want BU releasing their product before December, so they
pressure WEP to hold BU licence application.

That's why the licence approval is still pending for a long long time.

BU said if they can't get the license from WEP until November,
they are going to launch their Golion to market at December in behalf
of Mad Toys whatever.

I do believe BU Toys will release their products to market very soon,
otherwise they will get huge loss. Right?!

Take that info as you will.
Damn you Bandai, am I right!!!!
Hopefully they will still be able to release it come Nov or Dec.

I will add extra salt and pepper to say madtoys were paid to shut up hence zero reply on their Facebook page. There is no way in hell if they are not licensed and wep is still allowed their Facebook page to be around.

Chances are bandai has paid them to be silenced. No reason why products are ready you don't want to say anything.

They be released January by looks

Whatever it is bandai won me over to cancel since I have version one I don't really need this one and I already swap to buy another soc rangers instead.

This rumour came in way too long and late as my funds are being held over nearly a year I decided not to proceed.

This show how powerful bandai is and those jokers don't realise that if they don't cater for demand then this piece will become the people's only other option

Nothing is fair in this world, bandai bought them out till their is released. I would have waited if I hear this rumours in July. They had their chances.

Btw that is a cut and paste response as my friend got the same message. Not sure I am required to say thank you?

And to be honest matt alt review kinda won me over as well as the soc is more polished there is no denying. My decision is basically because I already have version one, I got tired waiting and soc rangers made it easier for me to switch order.

To be fair if I didn't read your post about all the wep theory and how bandai was not going to make a Voltron, madtoys wouldn't even made it to my shelf as that theory is busted. But saying that I enjoyed madtoys Voltron I just no longer hunger for ver 2

I am no bandai fan boy either as their lack of quantity for hot items are just a waste of time, there are people who missed out on the soc anyway so this will be the next obvious choice

I ordered the bandai one.

I have no grudges against this piece as I owned version one.

I do wish that madtoys had said something to update but they left it in mid air leaving the responsibility to the new toy distribution.

I'm curious what's the latest on these? I currently have the Mad Toys v1 unlicensed version of Voltron, never like the Toynami etc.

Really wish there were some early reviews, I don't mind double dipping for Voltron if it's a decent upgrade. It kinda sucks about WEP kinda holding back the MadToys one though for Bandai ... that said the pics i saw of the Bandai don't look too bad

Exactly my thoughts. They were waiting or werent allowed to release until Bandai released first.

I dont like the legs on the lions in the SOC version. Too skinny.

Ah...but do you have it? See I am not just based on my opinion. Primetime is selling his because he has the SOC and cant justify keeping Madtoys anymore, hence selling it.

Lions mode I cant see how Madtoys win as their legs are just straight whereas Bandai is more articulated.

Anyhow, it is after all an opinion, I based on what I own. If we were to view at accuracy of the anime then there isn't really need to discuss. Madtoys version is good, but I think Bandai wins in overall, the finishing is just a lot more polished.

I am still keeping the Madtoys version just a while longer.

As I still have both Madtoys and SOC this statement is indeed correct. Madtoys was good for its time but that time has now passed on to SOC sadly. One of the weakness with Madtoys is that the leg ratchet is too wide - ie. no fine ratchet indents as with SOC so when you try to pose the KOB is either too wide or not at all.

The SOC also has "heels" made of diecast that helps it stand - overall I think Bandai's got it right with Golion. Don't get me wrong KOB isn't bad by any means - it still has flaming sword mind you! which is really cool but now we have more choices which is good in any way.

Just played with Bandai soc voltron and I have to say it is very good.
There are some aspects I like about madtoys version but it is not enough to soc.

I agree. KOB definitely isn't a slouch in the design aspect. I wonder how it would've turned out if it had official-ness from the start.
Comparing the two, the SOC does some things really well (lion articulation as just one) and the KOb has others nicely covered (no visible screw holes). Both have pros and cons.

Personally I think if one had to choose one over the other, I'd go for the SOC, just beacuse of the extra accessories and articulation of the lions.

To be fair i didn't even touch both accessories for both versions.
Lions to lions the soc wins hands down , only the madtoys red lion is a bit more solid as the Bandai one is a bit plastic visually. But Bandai is very colour accurate.

I am sure some debate will be whether Bandai chrome on the figure will fade, as it is beautiful it may backfire and that's where madtoys may be better.

The overall take by Bandai is more well polished, the way the black lions arm is hidden is a nice touch, I didn't bother to remove the tails for the arms which Matt a vid recommended as the instructions didn't say so.

Initially I think it looked fat, but when in hands and after playing with him, it feels right.

Version two by madtoys is delayed till April but that's ridiculously too long.

My verdict goes to Bandai, it will be a very long time before another company can win theirs.

Unless the V2 has brighten up their colours, add chrome, brighten their eyes. It is pretty much a better version of v1 with rotating fist.

didn't bug me much, my main gripe was unable to rotate fist due to shooting action. We just have to remember that version one took place way before Bandai so naturally Bandai has done enough to make people buy theirs.
Version 2 on the other hand I hope they do enough to justify people to support. I would say colours for starters on version one need to be a lot more vibrant and accurate to the cartoon or old Voltron toys.

that's not the point, I preferred rotating fist over shooting fist and I am aware of the forearms except that is his limitation. The issue is the shooting fist has only one direction, you could not do a 90 degrees insert where you could pose better with the sword if need to.

I believe version two has resolve this as they took off the firing fist feature.

Anybody got a GX-71 they'd like to sell?

PC never got back to me about selling me a spare they said they may have, so im assuming it turned out they had none.

Ive got the V1 Mad Toys but think the Bandai looks different enough to warrant having it too. Wont be 'upgrading' to the V2 MT though might consider the black version.

Will be hard to find someone wanting to part with their gx-71

Thanks i found a few others still available overseas too... its the idea of paying $80+ shipping from most places thats holding me back.

Its not cheap, I did made the effort to pm members who were interested.
Definitely not selling my Bandai version as it looks a lot more vibrant and probably it feels closer to what I like.

Waiting on a black one too - both Icarus & Madtoys facebook page havnt been updated in regards to it since Feb... last reply to a comment from them said due April.

Toyercity & LCM both show availability as 'in stock' though still state in descriptions as preorder/coming soon.

I have hope for the black version, though not going to hold my breath for the regular colour!

Look could you get refund by lcm? As I was thinking this is way ridiculous from Icarus toys. I suggest you either raise a dispute when you still can than waiting for a endless wait.

Trust me it is not fun getting money back.

No he stole my money. The payments were divided into 2 a few months apart. I asked for a refund because the wait is to long. He refused to give me. So i filed a dispute with PayPal and only got half my money back. He still owes me $150 and refuses to give it back and ignores all my emails. I can't dispute it with PayPal because transaction is to old.
Never trust this scam artist. LCM is lying scum.
