From TFW board member Matty comes news that the Hot Toys OP Megatron version is now an official release. Uses the same Hot Toys Optimus as the recently released Starscream version but now with Megatron's fusion cannon. HT Optimus is going on a rampage. Wonder who's next on his hit list.

Still not interested now that it's getting released.
I must be the only person in the collecting world that doesn't have some sort of Hot Toys product, I don't even have Black Widow.

I saw the Starscream version of this at Zing in Macquarie last week. I don't think I like even the base prime figure.

No worries, though to be fair I think the staff at the store might have done a pretty mediocre job of posing him.

yeah but just look at the legs shape .... that so blocky and the lack of detail on it ...

The Starscream version was better - wish I'd been able to afford it

+1 for me for both these statements.

To be honest, when you put the Hot Toys Optimus against some of their other figures, it is possibly the worst figure they've produced. I've seen the Megs and the Starscream versions IRL and I have to say if I was spending that kind of money I'd rather put it into something from Prime1 and I'm normally an absolute sucker for anything that is G1 Prime-esque. I love, love, love Hot Toys other lines - their attention to detail is normally second to none, but this guy is mediocre at best when you know what this company really is capable of.
I also have to say the idea of a G1 Prime going around offing Decepticons to add their technological distinctiveness to himself doesn't keep with the ethos of who I think Optimus is (by G1 standards at least).
I would probably buy it at 1/3 the HK list price if it came without the "bits"...

$448??? Is that AUD?

Yep. HT jacked up the price for this. To get it from Sideshow in US, it's 384USD shipped I think. This comes with the bonus Starcream head though whereas Zing is the standard edition. Comes out to around $499 or more with the exchange rate so a bit cheaper but it's still no way Hose at these prices.

Its insane, I saw the Starscream version in Game Traders in Tuggeranong and it had the price tag of $508.

Also my biggest problem with this figure. it's like movie prime has possessed G1 Prime. I feel like they've added all these accessories to justify the jump in price.

I'd have to agree. It's not as if Hot Toys can't do mechs, either - you just need to look at their Robocop, or ED-209, or any of their Iron Man figures.
I think the thing is, this particular figure is very 'stylised,' so its look may not appeal to some. If it weren't so stylised with exaggerated, angular features, it could have been a cheaper alternative to the Ultimetal Optimus.

At least it's G1 accurate that way! :D

$448 can buy many things. Like Transformers that actually transform.

Hot Toys probably makes the most life like figures in the world so its odd that OP just doesnt look right.
Maybe as TF fans we're not used to the proportions but he does look strange. He has kind of human proportions but the overall look doesnt match with his TF features.
Still, there's no other OP as detailed as this with this kind of articulation.

I disagree. Ultimetal Prime is a much better example of how to do a G1 Optimus well with loads of detail inside and out and good articulation for the weight of the figure. This Hot Toys offering doesn't even come close nor does it speak (with Peter Cullen's voice).
(Disclaimer: I own Ultimetal Prime and he is my favourite non-transforming piece and thus I may be extremely biased)

For me it's the price. I think it looks quite nice. :)

Looking down on the hips, it looks really gappy to me. there is something a bit off about the proportions overall.
I think it's a bit too scuffed up. I like the fingers and the head sculpt is fine. I hate the gun and any element of the wearing of decepticon skin just doesn't appeal to me.
Other than that I think it looks fine, but the price. that is a joke. Ultimetal prime I think is better value for money. even at more than twice the price. This prime is literally the same size as MP-01 and doesn't look as nice overall and doesn't transform.

May not be too many people here keen on this but DaimChoc has posted quite a number of pics on his FB of the HT Optimus Megatron version. Here's a couple of them:

I'll admit that looks totally badass, but even a piece made by Hot Toys (One Powerball and I'd go nuts with their products) that doesn't transform seems odd :)

I like the fusion cannon... but I also like the wings... LoL
I would go Ultimetal instead of spending crazy money over both versions.

This is on shelves everywhere here in HK for around HK$2180 (AU$368 current rate).
I still think it is the worst Hot Toys mould they've ever done - and I love G1 Optimus Prime and most of the other Hot Toys figures. Having seen it both with Starscream and Megs attachments I just see it as overpriced.
This would have to come in under HK$900 for me to buy it, and even then I would probably throw the accessories away (as nice as they are) because they don't fit with my image of G1 Prime.

I'd rather pay less ($250AU) and get none of the wings/large stand/Megatron junk. Throw in a Matrix, a Megatron in gun form, and I'd be keen. Accessories that fit, rather than those that don't, y'know?

I just think this is the worst collectable based on MP Optimus period. Hot Toys must have given it to their lowest level designer to do.
