I'm hoping this is just out of laziness on the photographers behalf, and not an indication of what will be required for transformation. I know we've all assumed the beast head goes in to the chest, but have we seen that confirmed anywhere?

I assume you mean his right arm (your left, his right). I suspect it may activate the forearm cannon to pop out (as can be seen on his left arm (your right)). They probably both have it, as per the cartoon model.

Ha ha ya you almost had me confused for a second.
As you saw, I was talking about his left arm as the right one doesn't have the notch as far as I can see..

That is what I suspected what it was for but I was told otherwise by someone..
If the instructions dont explain it, I think I will go a little crazy not knowing cause I've been wondering since forever. haha.

This pic best illustrates the notch on Primal's left forearm and none on his right. If he only had his forearm cannon on the left then that would explain the notch, but as we've seen, he's got cannons on both arms:

I also thought maybe the swords could be plugged in there but that wrist computer is a good guess..
I also thought that maybe the right canon is spring loaded so no need for the notch while the left isnt and needs to be opened manually. Unlikely I know, but just a thought.

One thing to note is something that the Hasbro people said at this years BotCon is that TakaraTomy will often add in things to the toy designs with something future in mind "just in case"... like combiner ports, tabs or post holes that we sometimes never find out what they were for because they weren't used in its first release.
Kinda like putting in electrical points around the house when it is being built - some may never be used but they are there just In case and don't negatively impact on the overall design.

Back as a kid I used to always kick myself for getting the predacon combiner set instead of Ultra class Optimus Primal.

I think it's just the bad angle making the exposed robot kibble look like a schlong, although it seems like they've done a few colour tweaks from the initial stock figure (that they used for the box photography) versus the production model -- the most notable one being the colour of the helmet and crest grill:

Just like to point out that BW MPs are obviously not scaled to G1 MPs. If it were, then MP Beast Convoy would be tiny. Here's a human skeleton next to a gorilla skeleton (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wW3mm0oFcsQ/U4JXQNwnfxI/AAAAAAAAKCs/djfqg737oNQ/s1600/fenton+-+skeleton.png) - as you can see, even when standing fully upright, humans are still taller. Of course, gorillas don't stand upright (humans are the only primates who have a fully erect gait), so the a scale Optimus Primal's head would be somewhere between the heights of the Spike and Daniel figurines included w/ MP Ultra Magnus. This is in beast mode, so in robot mode it'd be maybe a head taller than Spike. Even going by cartoon scale (https://i.ytimg.com/vi/N0e3wMzQx8s/maxresdefault.jpg), Optimus Primal would only be about as tall as MP Spike in Exo Suit in robot mode.

I suspect that they're sticking with the same size as the original Ultra Class toy for this. Although Dinobot was taller than Primal in the show, because in the cartoon Optimus Primal was really reduced to the size of a Mega (Voyager) and Dinobot was bumped up to an Ultra size. Didn't Ultra Magnus already come with those alternate faces anyway? I don't have mine out so I can't check. And of course now that I'm trying to google it, I can't find any clear images Haha :rolleyes:

And a couple of swappable faces (that the original release had - or at least had something that used the same fixing/hole) is different to a whole new extra that you won't be able to buy separately, basically leaving that hole in the original release Primal's arm for no reason. It feels strange for TT to go to the trouble of moulding a peg hole for a possible future repaint, when all they would have to do is "remold" an alternate panel if they decide to release a repaint/retool.

Seems like a weird move if that's what TT end up doing.

Have they ever made a feature specifically for a future extra (with no use for the main release figure) on any other MPs?

That came up a few months ago in this topic, and it is worth quoting myself here... :p


One thing to note is something that the Hasbro people said at this years BotCon is that TakaraTomy will often add in things to the toy designs with something future in mind "just in case"... like combiner ports, tabs or post holes that we sometimes never find out what they were for because they weren't used in its first release.
Kinda like putting in electrical points around the house when it is being built - some may never be used but they are there just In case and don't negatively impact on the overall design.

I think they gave some examples, but I can't remember any of them. :o

I think it was speculated, or even noted at the time, that the Masterpiece Star Saber was designed to accommodate a Masterpiece Victory Leo toy, if the designers were ever asked to create one.

Jokes aside, gorillas are apes not monkeys. :cool: IMO the best monkey Transformer we've had so far has been B'Boom/Apache, which is why I was playing around with him on New Year's this year to herald in the Year of the Monkey. ;) Not sure what I'm going to do for this year's NYE as next year is the Year of the Chicken and the one Lunar Zodiac animal which has never been done as a TF alt mode is the chicken. :( It's the one beast mode that I would desperately like to see done at least once as a Transformer's alt mode (although I hope they don't cock it up :p). I think the nearest thing I have to a chicken may be the Tyrannosaurus Rex (http://www.livescience.com/1410-rex-related-chickens.html).
