Much prefer Hardhead with the mouth than the faceplate. I was going to get the Hasbro versions because the packaging looks nice. But if TT is going to weave their magic, I might have to rethink :p

Takara's SKullcruncher looks like Trailbreaker's forcefield face, so I'll go Hasbro for this one.

Hardhead on the other hand....

(I wonder if they'll sell the heads separately)

Mods, the TT version should probably have it's own thread, can we have these post broken out? Please...

Anyway, considering that the TT version of Hardhead is A: more G1 accurate, B: More Headmasters accurate, C: More IDW accurate, I'll go with TT. Now to go take a look at Skullcrusher's TFwiki.

Hasbro's Hardhead head is more G1 toy accurate (and remember that the toys came first), whereas TakaraTOMY's is more media-accurate. So both are G1 accurate, it just depends on which G1 source you're looking at. Both Generations and Legends Brainstorm feature G1 toy and US cartoon accurate heads (inspired by IDW) rather than being G1 anime-accurate (http://www.therobotspajamas.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/23Headmasters05.jpg).

I don't get Hasbro's Skullcruncher head though.

Hasbro always go for toy accurate over show accurate. They have done for years.

It makes sense for TakTomy to change the Headmaster heads to match the Headmasters cartoon that was shown in Japan. I expect we will see a new head for Chromedome and Brainstorm in the future.

This makes it a hard choice for me, I tend to favour Taktom versions as they don't skimp out on the paint job, and actually paint hubcaps and other details for a less cheap look, however when it comes to characters like Chromedome and Brainstorm, I'd kinda like IDW or US toon heads, I just hope the Chromedome that Hasbro showed at toy fair is still a testshot, because they didn't even bother painting Stylors head.

I am hoping that Takara do a headmaster head only pack. That would be ideal. I would buy like 3 of them! :p

I doubt they will, but maybe Hasbro will release the heads as Titan masters with a silly vehicle repaint, that sounds like Hasbro, they get more money that way.

If they do then maybe the reverse will be true and we'll get proper deluxes for the other Titan masters. Chromedome look like he could be retooled into Nightbeat or Siren with ease.

I consider the media to be what counts as "G1-accurate". The toys often have very little in common with the cartoons I grew up with. See G1 Ironhide.:p

But that's because the toys came first. It's unfair to expect the G1 Ironhide toy to look like the cartoon when this toy was created and released before the Transformers franchise even existed (re: Diaclone). I understand that a lot of people have a fond attachment to the cartoon, and that's fine... but I don't think it's fair to criticise the G1 toys for not looking like something that didn't exist when they were created.

This always perplexes me when people remark on that. Hasbro have clearly always gone that way while Takara go the other way, it's only logical because otherwise they'd step on each others toes to much.

Doesn't the little bird-dinosaur thing they're including with Skullcruncher need the headmaster for the dinosaur mode?

It's a nice idea, but maybe they would have been better off releasing the vehicle-and-headmaster guys separately. The headmaster homage is actually decent enough on its own IMO.

There's a little seat for him to ride in, but it's not necessary for transformation, just fun for playability.

That said, it would be nice if they offered an alternate extra head that could be used in the accessory dudes.

So it can make the complete mini-T-Rex mode without the headmaster?

I was looking at the pictures before, and it looks a lot like the headmaster guy makes the arms and lower jaw of the dinosaur to me.
Hope I'm wrong, 'cos I really like the look of the little dino-bird-thing, especially his dino-mode, so it'd suck to have to choose between keeping Skullcruncher in crocodile mode VS not being able to complete the dino-dude.

Haven't seen the non-CGI pictures of Hasbro Galvatron so I can't compare, but I think he will be fine in hand and very '86 movie accurate. The reason I think that is because what Takara's photos tend to look like is a little brighter than the final figure. Just look at MP-11 Thundcracker for example.

Anyway I ordered all three of these guys along with Delta Magnus from HLJ this morning.

The only one of these guys I'm interested in is Skullcruncher, and I'm kind of torn.:(
I like the colours and headsculpt better on the TT version, and it'll be way easier for me to get my hands on, but I don't like the way that including the little dino-bird-guy (who actually looks pretty cool - it's the only one of the vehicle-and-headmaster guys that I liked) with him means you can't have it in dinosaur mode, and I also sort of want him to have a standard blaster like the G1 version.

I think the Hasbro release has narrowly won out here.

So if TakaraTomy are pairing up with their Deluxe figures, the vehicles from the Hasbro Titan Master size class (the packs that have a head and transforming vehicle), I wonder if they will still be releasing those Hasbro heads at some point, or use them as in-store purchase freebies like all the Minicons and Legion toys in recent years.

well that 99 sale was a lucky sell thou when Big W did it. From the looks of Big w atm with their transformers stock, don't expect that to happen again.

So that leaves Target/Kmart/TRU/Myers.

Iirc target was 149 or 129 for metroplex and TRU was 199.

I dont' see fort max being 149 or even 129 at any stage in aus, probably closer to devastator price of 160/199

Fort Max has the same US RRP in America as Devastator, and the exchange rate hasn't gone down in the last 12 months, so I'd be expecting similar prices here as Devastator.

Unfortunately, the US RRP of Fort Max in America is more than Metroplex was in 2013... so if you actually remember how much Metroplex was in Australia, it is not something to compare Fort Max to for here.

Million dollar question right there! Buy now, or play the waiting game! :D
Considering the lack of supply we had for Devastator in the A.C.T price isn't my concern but more on availability! I for one will be shopping overseas for Fort Max this year. Although I can't see how Hasbro can possibly do worse than last year for stock issues. ...gz, I hope I didn't just jinx Oz!

At least their Headmaster companions have paint, I noticed a distinct lack of paint on some Hasbro's in the Botcon photos.

You can try PC, they've already got Takara Fort Max (http://www.premiumcollectables.com.au/products/transformers-legend-lg31-fortress-maximus) listed, and did have the Hasbro version up before they took it down -- probably because they're not allowed to advertise it early.

They're probably saving it for the next lot of releases.

I'd say that Hasbro fort max has the better torso and arms, with Takara having the better lower legs and head.

Takara is more faithful in city mode but most people wont display that mode so meh

As expected, Japanese Fort Max is more cartoon/G1 accurate while Hasbro seems to have attempted a MTMTE color scheme. However, the mould is clearly trying to be G1 Fort Max so I don't think the IDW paint scheme doesn't really work.

Everything else looks great though.

Amazon Japan have added Chromedome, Highbrow and Wipe/Mindwipe to their site, with the usual HUGE clear official images.

Legends
- LG-32 - Chromedome (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B01I4FE788) (Titans Return Deluxe with Titanmaster Nightbeat's vehicle)
- LG-33 - Highbrow (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B01I4FE76U) (Titans Return Deluxe with Titanmaster Loudmouth's vehicle)
- LG-34 - Wipe (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B01I4FE73I) (Mindwipe) (Titans Return Deluxe with Titanmaster Crashbash's vehicle)

They all have November 26th noted as their release date, which means LG-35 to LG-38, a few posts above, will actually be December, and Brainstorm & Astrotrain will be January. (the dates on those particular silhouette images have always been a month or two out)

I can see that there are posts on either side, so that didn't bother me in the slightest. It's mainly the front grill of the truck cab that clinched it for me. It looks more aesthetically pleasing to me and also helps to make the toy look more distinctive from Powermaster Optimus Prime.

Agreed. The Orion Pax head makes no sense for Powermaster Optimus Prime anyway. Having the smaller Ginrai head underneath the Super Ginrai head is a nice nod to G1 Ginrai's regular and Super robot modes.

Eh, unless the TakaraTOMY version is significantly different enough for me to warrant skipping the Hasbro version, I usually go with the Hasbro version.

Usually Taktom have more paint aps than Hasbro's which for me makes a big difference when they break up blocks of the same colour, or hubcaps on wheels.

I do not have any Titan Returns figures, but from what I've seen they take limited paint aps to a new low, so I worry that the Taktom version may only be equivalent to what we used to get from Hasbro.

The TakaraTOMY version is going for Japanese show-accuracy (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/e/e2/HM3_Brainstorm.jpg), whereas the Hasbro version can afford to be more toy-accurate as Brainstorm was drawn more toy-accurately in the Anglophone cartoon (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/6/64/Brainstormspike.jpg) and comics (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/5/57/Brainstormtrialbyfire.jpg). Both versions make sense for their respective markets. :)

Although despite the IDW influence, I still find the Generations Voyager figure to have a more G1-accurate looking body, whereas the Titans Return mould is obviously reverse engineered from Blurr. The scale thing isn't an issue for me so I'm happy to skip this mould entirely.

Good points there, I never really followed the Japanese continuity, but after checking tfwiki I see your point. Interesting that they didn't do this for their version of the Voyager release.

Good thing we're spoilt for choice

GoktimusPrime

I think that there were some benefits to not retooling the Voyager head for TakaraTOMY, including:
Cheaper :p
The Hasbro head is still G1 toy-accurate; the Brainstorm toy was identical in Japan (http://sky.geocities.jp/gekirobogun/TFG/brainstorm16.jpg). This is different from say the head of Cerebros/Fortress; the Hasbro figure is based on the way that Marvel (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/5/56/CerebrosG1-TrialByFire.jpg)/Sunbow (http://randomhoohaas.flyingomelette.com/rah/transformersusa/4-3/47.JPG) drew him which looks nothing like the G1 toy (http://toys.tfw2005.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/2007/10/max_cerebros_1191931472.jpg), and the Japanese cartoon (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/0/09/Hm28_fortress_examines_targetmaster.jpg) was more toy accurate. Hence it would have too little appeal for the Japanese market which was probably why TakaraTOMY went with a more toy/anime-accurate head (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/transformers-news-rumors/27601042d1467972939-new-stock-photos-takaratomy-lg-31-fortress-maximus-cm1ayqduiaaqka5.jpg) for their Fortress/Cerebros.
There are Japanese fans who follow the IDW comics (http://kuwakuwaherahera.seesaa.net).
The retooled head on the Deluxe now gives Japanese fans who own the Voyager an additional excuse to buy the Deluxe. ;) I'm not in a position to criticise this considering that I recently bought PM Optimus Prime and I'm still considering getting Ginrai. :p

I was editing my last post when you posted your reply, but yeah, there are Japanese fans who follow the IDW comics so the more IDW decoes would hold greater appeal for those fans. Although TakaraTOMY did abandon keeping Minimus Ambus in favour of repainting and repurposing that mould as Alpha Trion which makes no sense for IDW fans. But I'm guessing that Japanese fans who follow IDW would be a minority and Alpha Trion would hold greater market appeal. I think that TakaraTOMY are happy to make their toys IDW accurate as long as that accuracy doesn't make a reference that would be too obscure for those who have no knowledge of IDW. The red legs on Ultra Magnus and darker blue and additional red stripes on Skids are also more G1 toy accurate. The pink lines on Skids aren't G1 accurate but they also don't obscure Skids to the point that he would be unrecognisable to Japanese non-IDW savvy G1 fans, whereas I reckon a lot of those fans would've looked at Minimus Ambus and went, "Who the Fukushima is that?!" :p Heck, even at the EB Games Expo last year I had quite a few Aussie fans wondering who the hell Minimus Ambus was! So you can imagine how much lesser known this would be in Japan. ;)

I bought the Titan Force set to get a Brainstorm that looks like the G1 cartoon (at least in bot mode). It's not an expensive set last time I looked.

According to Planet Iacon, LG-42 will be God Bomber (https://www.facebook.com/Planetiacon.stfu/photos/a.193516854047596.45210.190726147660000/1221813714551233/?type=3&theater):

A new image of Leo Prime has been tweeted by TakaraTomy (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/new-image-of-takara-tomy-transformers-legends-lg41-leo-prime/36853/), showing us how vibrant its colours will be, with the bright red, crisp white, and regal gold.

I think it is a more fitting use of that mould than Alpha Trion, who was probably only used for that mould because FunPub gave Alpha Trion a lion form a few years ago.

He looks better and better every time I see him. The paint and not coloured plastic really takes it to another level.

Tweeted by TakaraTomy (https://twitter.com/TF_pr/status/807874730233446400) is a comparison of their Super Ginrai toy to the Hasbro Powermaster Optimus toy.

Super Ginrai comes out in Asia in a couple of weeks.

 Really? Cos PM Prime does have a lighter and flatter grey plastic which is more similar to Titans Return Powermaster Optimus Prime, whereas Ginrai has a darker and shinier grey which appears to be reflected in LG Ginrai.

As I said in my review of TRPMOP (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=532367&postcount=4):

Powermaster Optimus Prime's overall look and colours may seem cheap compared to Ginrai, but it's G1 accurately cheap! This gallery (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers-toys/gallery/masterforce/powermaster-optimus-prime/151/2/) includes comparison photos of G1 Powermaster Optimus Prime and Ginrai, and Ginrai always look nicer that PM OP. But he is not Optimus Prime.
And you can see the side-by-side comparison photo that I posted of G1 and TR Powermaster Optimus Prime. I do have a G1 (reissue) Ginrai, but I don't have LG Ginrai to post a comparison pic. Here is the LG Ginrai review thread (http://otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=23842), but there nobody's posted any pics yet, let alone a comparison pic with the G1 figure. :o

I've been going mad for Beast Wars lately, namely II and Neo (Jap series), so the Lio Convoy could very well be my first Takara Legends purchase.

Interesting.. I think it's nice that the TakaraTomy market have the option of having the Grimlock, Brawn and Flyweels heads; but I noticed that those Titan Masters have been peg-warming like crazy over here, and they came with vehicles, whereas these ones won't.. I wonder how well this 6-pack will sell.

I think it will sell fairly well. The Legends Headmasters have been flying off of shelves in Japan and are rather hard to find in store. The crappy little vehicles being included with deluxes means that they won't have to bump up the price of the heads. Hopefully it will be a reasonable price.

Although it looks like they might be listed as part of Cybertron Satellite capmaign... not a good sign for general release if that's the case

Looking forward to getting those heads - somehow
Either via an online store, but hopefully in person if there are any left by the time I get to Japan
