(even after images of the back of the box were leaked (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=514489#post514489))

It's only a silhouette but you can tell that the Unite Warriors version will undergo some alterations like the previous Superion, Menasor, Defensor and Bruticus sets... like Nosecone's drill looks way bigger than the Hasbro attachment.

definitely...may be Takara is using old hands and feet attachment to compensate remoulding of some limbs on their own...and hopefully the head as well :rolleyes:

Nosecone looks to be based of the Rook mould.
Lightspeed is from the Wheeljack mould.
Strafe is a Blastoff retool.
Looks like a unique gun a combiner head remould too.

Given I haven't deviated from the Hasbro releases yet, I'll probably stick with the Titans Return release later this year, but it really depends on what Hasbro is doing with the heads and whether they've been remoulded or not. (No / limited remoulding would explain the use of the Streetwise mould over the Wheeljack mould for Lightspeed).

Other than the HFG that TT will be packing, UW is going to once again be superior to the CW version. Though this is to be expected given TT's higher standard.

Still, I'm definitely interested on this and hope to get my Grimlock his kids.

Other than that everything else is just speculation on which figures will have new heads, if the Takara versions all have new guns compared to the Hasbro versions and what Takara's decos for their technobots will have but they'll likely be cartoon accurate

But it's puzzling that both Hasbro and TakaraTomy decided to each do Computron, but seemed to have done it without any collaboration or communication with the other... unlike the past when they would work together to produce the same products for both their markets.

We have five members in the core team (ignoring the Legends add-on), and three of them are different moulds between the two sets.
Scattershot and Afterburner are the only ones that seem to be using the same moulds and the Japanese Scattershot has new remoulded parts... leaving just Afterburner being the only identical toy between the two sets.
That's just extraordinary.

Of the different moulds in the pictures so far, I prefer the Hasbro Strafe, but the TakaraTomy Nosecone and Lightspeed.

I'm liking the look of UW except for the feet, but might find the cartoon colours a bit off outing when we see the final product. (Never really liked how the Technobots were coloured in the cartoon). Also mostly keen to see Lightspeed in both modes (He was my first childhood Technobot so the one I care about most).

It makes perfect sense that they'd want to be different. If they were almost identical then people are less likely to double-dip.

I have a feeling they didn't really communicate here, Hasbro's boxset seems like an afterthought to soothe the clamour of fans asking for a "proper" Computron, while it seems Takara had been planning theirs all along...

True however the UW ones were released much later than the CW ones so they didn't step on each others toes as much.

That Nosecone is spectacular... TakaraTomy did some significant work on Rook to make that, and it will probably only see release in Asia.

It certainly makes Hasbro's version look really pathetic in comparison... and it's a shame that it is too late for them to swap out their "Brawl with a drill weapon" for this one.

And money's tight for me ATM so I'm not really at liberty to go and splurge on a UW Computicon* pre-order and wait to sell the CW version. Especially considering how long it can take to sell CW toys (I'm still trying to sell my mint sealed CW Aerialbots and Stunticons :rolleyes:). Selling toys suck, so I'd rather avoid having excess stock if possible.

You could get them to cancel your Computron order, then use the refund (in the form of a code) for Computicon? I did this with the PerfectEffect Bruticus hands/feet set so that could save you a little hassle? if you want anyway :)

I want to like it...really I do. It has 3 new molds from the Hasbro Protectobots (a set which I really enjoy) and there's clearly been a lot of effort put into redoing the existing molds, which I'd like to encourage. I'm actually a big fan of well-done remolds, and a lot of the 'new' stuff I've been buying over the past few years has been the 'remold' versions.
But, this just isn't doing it for me. :( It just doesn't seem Sci-Fi enough somehow, and it looks kind of scrawny. The lanky look kind of worked on Superion, but Computron was always a pretty solid design. There's some nice touches and I'm really glad they've done it, but I think I'm going to hold out for a G1 reissue and/or scoring a bargain on a MakeToys Quantron.
It's a nice try @TakaraTomy, just not what I'm looking for.

Love what they've done with the limbs however the Silverbolt mold is one of the weakest central robots, no matter how you dress it up. It's enough to put me on the fence with this one.

It's odd, as the individual Robots look very nice, but Computron just looks, I dunno, kinda lacking...

Usually I wait till I get both the CW and UW sets then choose the worst representation of each character to make the gestalt and keep the best for individual bots.

Comparing these two sets it's a no brainer. UW for individual bots except for Scattershot who I'll need to make Computrons torso actually look different to Superion.

Wow, they are pretty much two completely different sets of bots. I am surprised that TT and Hasbro have made them so dissimilar. There are bits of both sets that I like, I wonder how many people will buy both and mix and match?

Seeing all of them side by side I think the only one of 5 that Hasbro maybe wins out on individual bots is Afterburner but that's just comes down to colour preference. Nosecone and Strafe on the UW Set are so much better than their CW versions. UW wins this by unaminous decision.

Yeah thats exactly what I did. I have my CW version in combined mode and my UW version as individual bots.

I wanna do the same here but its harder as the UW version is so much better looking both individually and as a gestalt. Think I will use UW Scattershot for the torso and the CW limbs together, with the others as individuals.

The only thing that the CW version has going for it is that little yellow dude who Blaster watched get done in.

I'm amazed at how the Japanese Nosecone ends up looking a lot like the original toy/comic, and the Japanese Lightspeed just makes perfect sense at replicating the comic version with the spoiler and "windshield" on the chest. I would have preferred a more mustard colour for Afterburner though, as both toy versions have gone for a red deco. Strafe is the one I am still on the fence about, as the Japanese version is probably the closest to the original, but the hollow arms above the wings spoils it.

I'm really on the fence about which version to get, and the comparison photos aren't helping!

Getting the Takara version might be the only way to get the bike and shuttle moulds in one easy package, but then I miss out on the tank mould. But I've heard the tank mould isn't all that, plus it is relatively readily available at local retail. But the Hasbro version has that cool Scrounge redeco, plus the new hands and feet. It's a really tough choice, especially when aiming for mould completion of the series!

It's probably mentioned somewhere but is scrounge only being sold in the cw set or will he be sold separately at some point? Meh. I'm already getting Hasbro Computron, so I'm not going to be fussed if I can find the UW version or not. If I desperately wanted this toy, I would've preordered it online. Otherwise I'm happy to just opportunistically see if I can come across it or not. :) I'd like to bring back at least one Transformer from Japan (probably more), and I am planning on going to Akihabara and Den Den Town and hitting places like Mandarakes etc. :D

In TakaraTOMY's defence, UW Afterburner's colours are cartoon accurate (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/f/f3/G1_afterburner_moneyiseverything.jpg) which is what they're aiming to achieve. It's just that the cartoon colours suck compared to the original toy colours (IMHO). :o There are many times when the original toy colours are better than the cartoon colours. Shockwave's another good example; the dark and richer purple of the toy is far nicer looking than the pale lavender used in the cartoon.

But we know that a lot of fans demand show-likeness which is what TakaraTOMY typically aim for. And in this case Hasbro have gone the other way and have run with toy accuracy on their version. :)
