View Full Version : Who is your favourite Autobot Mini Car?

I haven't included Bumblejumper as I suspect that it's unlikely that too many of us (if any) actually owned one in the 1980s. So we're going with which Autobot Mini-Car you loved the most (and possibly still do) since the original G1 era. It's not necessarily the same as who your favourite may be today, just who your favourite Mini-Bot was as a kid.

Because the board only allows me to add up to 15 poll options, I've combined Cliffjumper with Hubcap and Gears with Swerve as single poll options. Feel free to post a reply if you want to specify exactly which one of those is your favourite.

*Because in the 1980s only people who went off-roading (including driving in the outback where there are still lots of unsealed roads) actually had SUVs^4WDs. More people back then drove station wagons, allowing you the additional boot space without looking like a wanna-be adventurer where the only time your off-road vehicle actually goes off-road is when you enter your driveway. :p

OUTBACK :D

Yes we went camping every holidays and to school in a Landrover daily. I liked his gangly proportions, big gun, and he would drive all up and down over my scrunched up doona.

I voted for Seaspray!

A mate of mine had it before I had gotten any TFs at all, and it made an impression! I loved (and still do!) just how intuitive and clever the transformation is!

Hands up if you can still well up a bit of spit under your tongue to do your Seaspray/Merman voice impression. ;)

Brawn for me.
Being tall I always liked tall Transformers and he is one of the taller mini-bots, plus my Dad and I used to go camping all the time and the Land Rover toy could go anywhere with us and Dad loved the little figure especially because he was so strong and had max points on courage. I remember Dad explaining to me that the word Brawn meant strength, he also explained what courage meant, the second was an important lesson to help shape me as I grew. :)

I never actually had any as a kid. not G1 anyway, I don't know why, maybe distribution in my home town of the smaller toys wasn't very good.

I voted Beachcomber, one of my mates had one and it was particularly appealing because of the big smooth rolling tyres and I was and still am a fan of blue.

I eventually bought G2 beachcomber, Seaspray and bumblebee even though they were the wrong colours and in chrome.

The only mini cars I ever had are Bumblebee and Cliffjumper, and I'm voting for Cliffjumper because why not?

So many fav's in the Mini-Cars group for me! I voted for Pipes but to expand...

*Pipes: Because he was one of my first dozen TF's and the first I ever owned two of. Very cool colour and alt-mode. Also one of the few 1986 ones as a kid I actually saw pop up in the cartoon.

*Seaspray: Also one of my first dozen, and just such a cool character and toy! When me and my mates built out of cardboard a base for all our mini-car characters at school we put in a river so Seaspray could go into the base :D

*Warpath: Didn't get him until an adult but as a kid thought he was a great character with a much needed combat-oriented alt-mode for the Bots side. Was very jealous when mums friends kid got one.

*Outback: A G1 aussie character! "Now I'm gonna grab that Gatorraider, and jam my thumb in his..."

*Powerglide and Cosmos: Flying bots - nuff said!

*Tailgate: Another of my first dozen TF's

*Bumblebee: One of the last I got to complete the set. Very cool little toy!

*Beachcomber: Cool alt-mode and liked 'The Golden Lagoon' episode he starred in :)

I had G2 Seaspray and Bee, but I liked the hovercraft mode more, so Seaspray gets my vote

Beachcomber. My second ever Transformer. Everything about him was just right and fun to play with, and very sturdy.

Seaspray, for the same reasons as my fav car choice (sideswipe)

I've actually got a red Bumblebee (no not a Cliffjumper) with the tyres worn off :p

I voted Gears... was my third Mini Car (after Powerglide and Seaspray), but the first I bought myself. Loved the character in Changing Gears and went and bought him ASAP. He was the first figure that lost all its chrome, became floppy and then fell apart I played with it so much.

I loved the smell of Beachcomber just after opening him! I think it was the rubber tyres, but man... I couldn't stop sniffing 'em!

I did love SeaSpray and Gears, but I think my favourite was Brawn. Looking back on it I have no idea why - he was all gangly and man alive, those stupid little arms of his! But I still loved him.:)

Brawn was my first Transformer, so he'll always have a soft spot in my heart. :D He's my favourite of the first year Mini Cars.

I have never had any minibots but voted for Warpath because a friend had him and I thought he was cool.

Can't believe Wheelie has not garnered a vote.

And following his induction into the 2016 Hall Fame for Favourite Underrated character, Cosmos is underrated here also.:p

Never met someone who never had any Minibots before! Being smaller and cheaper figures, most of us probably collected more of them with the boxed figures possibly being a rarer treat. A typical Autobot Car was about $20 which by today's standards would be around the price of a Voyager Class figure. A Minibot would be roughly the equivalent of a Legends Class figure today. I think for most folks, carded figures were easier to collect because they were cheap enough for mum or dad to just buy you one on impulse, whereas boxed toys were often things that you had to ask for and wait in advance (e.g. birthdays, Xmases etc.). And even if my parents had been the kind to buy me boxed toys on impulse, I probably would've wanted to collect the Mini-Bots anyway because I still liked them as toys (and as characters). :) Similar to how I will still collect smaller/cheaper Legends Class figures as well as Deluxes, Voyagers etc.

I never owned any minibots as a kid either. Priority back in the day:
1. Food on table
2. Roof over our heads

99999. Toys of any kind.

Yeah we were dirt poor. How times changed ... for the better. :)

As I said, I didn't have any minibots until I bought the G2 ones I mentioned with pocket money in my early teens.

we never got toys except for Christmas and Birthdays so I guess that explains why I had quite a few of the main car line and none of the smaller ones.

As a kid I tended to be most into Combiners, Autobot cars and Season 3 figures. My parents didn't tend to buy me toys when we went to do groceries etc but I was well looked after at Christmas and birthdays, hence why I was able to get the more substantial figures.

Never met someone who never had any Minibots before!

Plus we have members here who are young enough that Minibots were off the shelves before they were born! We are so old.

My childhood collection definitely had more of the lower price point toys compared to the big guys.

In addition to Beachcomber my earlier Minibots (Cosmos, Seaspray Warpath, Powerglide, Gears, Bumblebee) are all toys I have great affection for but strangely I don't have the same feeling for '86 toys (Swerve, Pipes, Wheelie, Tailgate).

powerglide for me, he wasn't the first I owned in minibots category but he sure was one I sought after back in Phils... cost me a lot to get him loose... then they reissued, lol
I gues coz his transformation isn't as simple as the rest of the minibots who are basically like gobots easy... okay he was easy level as well, but a tad bit more different than the rest...

I can relate to that... for the longest time my first TF was given to me by my aunts from Aus...she went home for Xmas of 85, so it was my late Bday gift / Xmas gift...my mum bought me Microx ( diaclone Reflector) for a Bday present.... it was a choice between him and one of the cassettrons.. naturally I got Microx - it's 3 figures in one box... lol as for minibots.... always looked at them but never bought one til I was older and was in college, saved up from my meagre allowance, lol... meanwhile I made my own papercraft TFs which is why I guess why my old original TFs were spared from damage , lol....
