Which Generation of Transformers is the one that you grew up with as a child (i.e. primary school). For those of you who went through more than one series, please vote on whichever one holds the fonder memories for you. :)

I would say unicron trilogy. I started getting into Transformers when Cybertron aired, so I have fond memories of that.

I never saw G1 in it's original run on TV (I think regional Australia only had two TV stations at the time), but I saw tons of VHS tapes and re-runs before I aged out.

Beast wars!
And to a lesser extent beast machines but I didn't get to see much of it since I didn't have fox kids so only got to watch a couple of episodes at a friends house

By around the time The unicron trilogy came out I was just reaching the end of primary school but beast wars is my first. What I grew up with and the one that holds the biggest place in my heart

G2 but then Beast Wars. The first TF I ever got because I asked for it - as opposed to getting it second-hand as a gift - was Laser Optimus Prime, and I adored it.

Beast Wars started a little later, and at first I hated it, because I was used to G1 having watched a few episodes here and there and rented both the movie and the Rebirth over and over from the video shop. But I soon got into the better toys and characters.

I started collecting properly around the time Armada started, but Beast Wars is what really got me into Transformers.

G1!

I watched the reruns of the G1 series in the early 90s. I dont know whether they are reruns or first runs because during that time Malaysia didn't really get first hand on TV shows from the US.

It's stuck with me ever since and G1 and the current Generations are my main collectibles in my collection.

G1 reruns was the big one for me, which led to Interest in Cybertron when it hit. I had toys from Cybertron, so I phased into it more as time went, until the movie.

This isn't a popularity poll though. If anything, the poll is just popular with older people. :D

I agree, there'd likely be a correlation between a "How Old Are You" poll and this one.

I was 5 in 1984 - perfect age to grow up with Transformers.

Sure, but unlike age polls people won't need to revote on this one in future. :) I was mainly curious to see if the proportion of G1 and post-G1 kids have changed as more post-G1 kids seem to be participating in the fandom. When I first joined OzFormers, 100% of members were obviously children of G1. As of the time of typing this post, the poll results indicate 71% of respondents being children of G1.

I flicked between G1 and G2, and ultimately landed on G2. In reality, *my* G1 is Euro G1. Turbomasters forever!

I got into them because I had friends that had older brothers and they were amazing toys. The first toys I got were the gold box / cardback reissues, and then the Euro G1 releases.

I think I was in Year 4 / Year 5 by the time BW was out. Pulled away during Beast Machines, but was pulled back in by the first RID line when I saw Ultra Magnus - and I instantly wanted him, because I had always wanted one as a kid.

Was kind of going for the whole 'we are old' thing with that statement

I have been thinking about this thread and my kids... while they have watched G1, Beast Wars/Machines, RID (2000). They have actually grown up on RID, Prime and Rescue Bots. These are the cartoons that they get up and watch (when on) in the morning or they watch on Netflix. You ask them their favourite characters and its Sideswipe, Drift, Strongarm and Grimlock. Its only a few years away until they might be voting on polls like this :D

It was G1 for me, but early '90s reruns, not the original '80s broadcast. Likewise, the bulk of my childhood toys were Classic reissues with gold packaging.

i was lucky enough to grow up with the original transformers, made my parents buy me toys and borrow toys from friends when we played with em.i still have a vintage hot rod which is missing some screws and his sticker is peeling off,but have managed to keep some of my collection whilst updating new ones.my latest purchase would be megatron.yes he transforms into a gun but i cant read the japanese instructions and i think i threw it out-i paid like $200 for that bad boy and it displays nicely in my room as a upright robot as i gave up trying to transform it into a gun

 Considering that you've paid nearly triple the original price for that toy, I'm surprised that you chucked the instructions out or haven't tried transforming it into gun mode. Also... the toy comes packaged in gun mode, so you've evidently transformed it to robot mode. Did you discard the instructions after doing so? Anyway, my video review of G1 Megatron/Megaplex (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvP_ZpSmK5g) demonstrates how to transform the toy from gun to robot mode (skip to 2:20). Simply reverse the order to transform to gun mode. Alternatively, here (http://botchthecrab.com/archive/instructions/decepticon/1984/instr_megatron.jpg) is a scan of the original Megatron's instruction booklet.

There should be a multiple choice. Some of us where still technically 'growing up' from G1 to Beast Wars.

That sounds crazy to me.

G1 Megatron is a fairly easy toy to Transform unless you mean the Masterpiece release (MP-5). Even so, I would not throw out the often well illustrated instructions just because I can't read the language and as Gok mentioned, G1 comes in gun mode. That is what leads me to believe you have the MP release as it comes packaged in robot mode and it is a considerably more complex toy for those without an engineering mind or do not want to be challenged.

Never knew you did video reviews. Why'd you stop? This one was quite good and informative.

Parenthood. :p I'm trying to get back into it (just recently made video reviews of Titans Return Wheelie and Rewind). But honestly I really do just prefer text reviews. Still, things like transformations are often better portrayed in video than text. I'm thinking about making "mini-reviews" or "toy appraisal" videos rather than full on reviews.
