Are the stickers for representing the G1 Inferno toy? Don't remember seeing the 'FD' markings on Inferno in the cartoon. Autobot logos on the front appear to be printed, which is great.

I can't really see much detail on that 'alternate front'. It looks just plain where there should be headlights and a grille. It seems like an odd inclusion, unless he appeared like that in the cartoon at some point.

Still, I wonder if there might even be two different faces once the official colour photos are released, like the ones on MP Bumblebee.

According to the text above those grills, that's exactly what they're meant to be - cartoon accurate. The default grill is toy/vehicle-accurate as well as vehicle accurate to the Mitsubishi Fuso T951 fire engine (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/49/90/c4/4990c4b6607a04192a6eb1f3b6d1a784.jpg). I suspect that the vehicle accuracy is probably a condition of the licence obtained from Mitsubishi, but they've included the simplified show-accurate alternate grills for those who wanna be that fussy.

The text for the bottom grill says "For holding Red Alert," so I'm guessing it's a thinner grill to give more clearance for Inferno to cradle Red Alert in his arms.

 Wow. I wonder if the ladder completely folds up inside the chest cavity (which would be a good use of that space which was otherwise the cockpit for the Diaclone pilot on the G1 figure), or if the ladder (or part of it) detaches and becomes something else, similar to Laserwave's backpack becoming the gun stand. Judging from the fact that the pics don't showcase what the ladder may become in robot mode, I'm guessing that it completely folds inside the upper torso cavity. If so, that's freaking amazing!

Proportionately speaking, more Decepticons have been done as MPs than Autobots. Let's look at all the toy-characters from 1984-85 who also appeared in the G1 cartoon (so we're excluding characters like the Jumpstarters, Deluxe Insecticons etc.). And we'll including characters that we know are coming soon as MPs; i.e. Inferno and Thrust.

Autobots = 13/39* or 33% have been done as MPs
Decepticons = 13/25** or 52% have been done as MPs

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/meme_masterpieces300_zpse1rddoiu.jpg

If your Decepticon MP shelf is looking less densely populated than your Autobot MP shelf, it'd be because there were simply fewer Decepticons in G1 than Autobots, thus there is a more limited pool of G1 Decepticon characters for TakaraTOMY to make MP products from. HasTak have tried to flesh out the Decepticon ranks with new G1 characters like Sunstorm, Acid Storm and Exhaust, Loud Pedal etc. but they've also bolstered the Autobots with new G1 characters too, such as Road Rage, Tiger Track, Clampdown etc., so this ends up offsetting any numerical advantage that the Decepticons may have had. And as you've pointed out, each new Autobot MP that comes out as more redeco potentials as other Autobots. Inferno adds 1 to the Autobot count, but he carries the redeco potential of becoming MP Grapple, Hauler and Artfire! :o

Interesting way to skew statistics :p

If you look at the list you will notice that of the 13 Decepticons, 5 of them use almost the exact same mold. This would put unique figures down to 9. If you categorise cassettes as 1 unique figure (I know they are different but the engineering and size for them pales in comparison to the large bots) then have 5 unique figures. That is not much when you look at the remaining decepticons which (bar Dirge) would likely all be unique figures.

Then look at the Autobots. Bluestreak, Prowl and Smokescreen are one unique mold. Ironhide and Ratchet are one. Red Alert and Sideswipe another one. Every other autobot is unique so that is 9 unique figures.

Therefore 5 unique molds to Decepticons and 9 unique molds to Autobots. Almost double the amount in favour of Autobots. That doesn't even get into the proportion of mold uses to total MPs which would really blow things out with the seekers.

All I am saying is some unique mold Decepticon love would not go astray.

Going to say he ran it more based on g1 toy accurate in colour and had the folding gun from comics which was rather odd move .
But if that's what he said then that is what it was.

I do find it weird that they have not attempted to recolour mp 10 to the screen accurate self being they know the complaints about his dead eyes, it doesn't actually suits well with the other MPs.

In many ways looking at inferno, you can see the effort is actually more than mp-10

Roller was done in screen accurate colours for Takara. Hasbro has a blue roller which is toy accurate.

Why would Takara opt to colour their Prime in "toy accurate colours" and leave roller in screen accurate? Makes no sense. Everyone can believe what they want to believe obviously but I'm convinced Takara was going for SCREEN accurate.

I thought the whole rebooting prime in a smaller bot was to keep scale consistency with all the upcoming bots? So far every car autobot has been made in scale with mp10, no?

and all the cars usually have some pic showing how they fit in prime's trailer. which we now have inferno, the only one out of scale with the rest.

true he may be in scale in bot mode, but G1 animation was never properly in scale, other than in vehicle mode.

i know im probably just being a scale nazi, but its just whats been released so far that has built up to this.

as for the cons, they're all in diff scales anyway, except for the seekers with each other.

In hindsight my comment was a little too knee jerk - no store ever has to notify customers of future stock/(pre)orders. It was just unlike PC to not announce it even a few hours in advance.

I guess the only thing I can add is that PC have created a trend by announcing their imminent preorders in advance - it's gotten to a point where if they were to change that trend, they'd need to announce that (from a customer service POV). And only because, as we have seen with their preorder numbers being slashed, there are too many dickheads out there who will kick and scream if they are the slightest bit inconvenienced.

All good mate, wasn't directed at anyone in particular, just a broad statement. I work in a customer orientated environment and sometimes they drive me up the wall when they don't get their way.

They have created a trend to keep it's customers in the loop, and I hope it does continue. This time could just be a case of oversight or possibly only finding out themselves they secured the preorders. Either way, I'm still happy to snag one.

Sadly with any customer service, someone will always get upset when they are inconvenienced. Hopefully they'll make some announcement as to what happened

Ur yes definitely, I used to check jpy before ordering buy now I don't bother.
PC not only has good price but reward points and free ship, which I think imo even without points I still be buying from them.

They had initially order issues but ease up after a while.

I think people do take online stores for granted and should try hlj where they may tell you sometime today but no exact time and you be wasting time refreshing the entire day and still miss it.

If past indication tells us anything, could be separate shipments. Depends on how many ordered I guess. I think $139.95 was the first price added, I could be wrong coz I ordered this morning. If there was an early bird price, not much of a problem anyway because that's still way cheaper than anywhere else. BBTS is that price, but in US$, which factoring in shipping and exchange rate, you'd be looking at $250+\-

Thanks guys :). I used a $25 reward on Inferno. I was surprised I had that many points after I used a $75 reward on Thrust. Premium Collectables is truly the only place us Aussies should shop. The Inferno page doesn't show specific runs so hoping it's just the one run and we all get Inferno at the same time.

Still available at AU$139.95 as of this post.

Between it being a mainline release and the three per person limit, I think they've got enough stock for everyone -- last night's clusterf@%k was probably too many people bombarding the site trying to order at once.

Yeah it's still up at PC, the other non limited MP's lasted a few days ion the past so I imagine this will too.

I also doubt we'll get a better price elsewhere as BBTS have him up for the same cost in USD which is $39 more than they wanted for Ironhide so I imagine the Japanese price is somewhere between Ironhide and Shockwave. PC's price is likely to be a bargain as usual! :)

It's interesting that on BBTS this official release costs more than the unlicensed Third party versions of the character, that's the first time I've seen that happen.

Regardless I ordered this guy as the ladder tick and accessories look cool, definitely going with the official version, this time.....

Interestingly, AE lists his height at 17cm (in comparison to Ironhide at 15cm and Shockwave at 18cm) and they also mention him having diecast as well! (Edit: AE have now removed the mention of diecast).

Amazon have also added Inferno (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B01I4FE77Y), with their usual HUGE official images.

For those living in Japan (Tets, kurdt, Odie... anyone else?), don't forget that Amazon provides free next day delivery. ;) For those of us in Australia 11400JPY converts to AU$150, but for those in Japan (and thus not converting currency) it's the equivalent of about $115. Still, those of us pre-ordering from PC can get close to that price by spending Energon Points. :) (even without Energon Points PC's price is only about $20 dearer with free postage)

I wonder if the bonus Coins have been stopped completely, or these larger items are just getting something bigger than a Coin.
This one has #1 on it, and Grapple has Ultra Magnus as a figurine, so it seems that a series of them is being planned... which would look nice together in their boxes, but will be very hard to collect on their own (and very expensive).

Should we be concerned by what is a clear trend towards simplifying the details on these MP figures?

Don't get me wrong I think INFERNO looks amazing but that chest/grille area is way too simplified, no doubt for cartoon accuracy.

This over simplification is not present in the Autobot cars such as Sideswipe, Wheeljack, Prowl, etc. I'm concerned that when displayed on the shelf there is going to be a stylistic disparity between these figures.

I don't own an MP Ironhide or Ratchet (can't get past those hip panels) but its clear this stylistic simplification started there and continued with Shockwave.

Are my concerns well founded?

Cheers for that. That'll teach me to jump to the last page... anyway for some reason I thought the 'other' grille was the one that had the translucent cradle attached. I didn't realise there were actually 3 grille/fascia plates.

Yep. The interchangeable parts allow you to make Inferno look either cartoon-likeness (simplified) or toy-accurate (detailed). I totally agree that toy-accuracy looks waaay better than show-likeness, but many fans are crying out for "show-accuracy" and TakaraTOMY is simply catering to this demand. But it's nice that they're also allowing the option to configure the figure for G1 toy accuracy. :)

Let us also not forget that most MP cars (now trucks started) are licensed vehicles in this case a Fuso Fire Truck so TT can't just jump to toon accuracy immediately the way they did with Alert Plus ;)

To me the Masterpiece line was about cartoon proportions and articulation combined with the real life detail of their alt modes.

I feel this shift to the + line and interchangeable parts to be a drift away from my initial experience when I first started collecting , but at least everyone is being catered for I suppose.

I felt the whole masterpiece line was inconsistent throughout even in current.
One piece gets painted another gets zero despite the crazy increase in price like thrust and dirge.

the g1 toy accurate should have been a seperate line as back then colours were all full of errors and so is diaclone colours. They should have one screen accurate and stick to that not take partial comics here and there.

Takara seems to nail the design but fail in delivering a well polished piece at times. I can't say for inferno as I think he looks pretty alright and spot on.
I doubt there is any licensing required for type of fire truck?

yeah i pretty much feel the same although i came in late. The '+' red alert just looks bland to me. Maybe the interchangeable chest is a good compromise so you can have a plain stripped down cartoon and a detailed toy version.

It is still based on a real existing fire truck though so maybe licensing is needed. I agree with the price hike on coneheads and the other jets. They don't come with any accessories and are based on years old existing moulds.

Pretty old school looking communications device.

The next step back from there would be to have a handle to wind and an earpiece on a wire while talking in to your arm.

Guess that's why the flip down visors of Hot Rod and Arcee in the movie were such a cool hi-tech thing given it was set in the future (at the time).

Remember that the Transformers still use cassette technology on Cybertron! Laserbeak transforms into a cassette four million years ago on Cybertron. His robot mode was different (not yet condor-like), but his alt mode was still a cassette which ejected from Soundwave's chest. And Grand Slam and Raindance were part of an Autobot expeditionary force who - hundreds of years ago - detected the Underbase's approach towards Earth. In order to alert the crew of the Ark, Grand Slam and Raindance had this information recorded on them in cassette mode, with both of them being sent to Earth (where they crashed).

Wheeljack was far more advanced though. He recorded data on laserdisc! :D :p

Any way...... for those not waiting for the Premium row boat and already have it in hand, some may have likely encounter an issue where the left forearm cover doesn't close properly.

It is possible to close the left arm but you'll need a hobby knife

http://i.imgur.com/gHqDdHZl.jpg

basically the paint on the highlighted area on both side are just tad too thick by around 1/2 mm, so if you shave off just a tiny tiny bit from either side it'll close perfectly ok per above

I am trying to work out how to get the nozzle to fold in to his arm. I think there is a pic on the box with it folded in the arm but I can't do it. Or should I plaming smoking something?

In general, yes... but since it is a new release toy with an issue that several people have noted, it can be mentioned here in a section that it would be more noticed in, and then maybe copied over to the Repair Section later for archiving.

Well I got my Inferno from PC today. Nice figure, but this is my first MP with serious paint issues - the grey area on top of his shoulders has chips on both sides. I also agree with what everybody are saying about the new cartoony direction that MP's are taking - just doesn't sit well with the earlier MP's aesthetics. Grateful for the option, though.

Just got mine and transformed him. No paint issues, just the issue with the hand cover.

I've been on a 3p binge lately so im used to stupidly complicated transformations. Inferno's transformation is beautiful in it's simplicity. No 3p i've bought has come close so far.

The shoulder and the way the ladder collapses into the chest is just incredible. I have to remind myself this is a toy. This kind of engineering is amazing.

Clearances are perfect, no tight joints when transforming. It looks super clean and they captured the G1 look perfectly.

Bloody marvelous. 9/10.
