I wouldn't say that's a concession because it is screen accurate (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdcsLHf6wb4). The show model does also keep the front beast legs dangling from the back, same as the original toy (ah, the joys of having show models scanned direct from the figures :D). The main difference is that the cartoon model crosses the legs over in an "X" shape, which the original toy can't do, but the MP evidently can. :) So they're being perfectly show-accurate by keeping the legs there and allowing them to articulate into an "X" shape. :cool:

Wow, wasn't expecting a prototype to show up so soon. He looks pretty good, and I suspect will look a lot better once he gets some paint - hopefully with the same "fur" texture style that Primal has. He looks too smooth here but so did the Primal prototype, and I was amazed at the paint job they gave him. :)

While I wasn't excited with Primal at the prototype stage (won over with the coloured shots), Cheetor is amazing!

To be fair, Cheetor is relatively more toy-accurate than Optimus Primal and thus relatively easier to redesign as an MP. Making the beast and robot heads look more show like is really just cosmetic, but the main design challenges have been reducing the bulk of the toy as well as allowing the beast head to tuck right in, which you can do with a bigger and more expensive figure. Optimus Primal has an additional challenge of reducing a lot of the beast kibble in robot mode, especially on the back. Primal also needs to have deployable weapons which I assume don't have panels flopping around (as the toy does but show model does not; the Robot Master figure got rid of the panels for the shoulder cannons but at the cost of having open grooves on the back which cannot be covered up).

And of course, Cheetor was obviously designed after Optimus Primal, so it would stand to logic that TakaraTOMY are learning from their experiences with Primal, which is a good sign. :) And perhaps future BW MPs may see improvements over Cheetor too. It'd be interesting to see if they can ever address the issue of visible robot parts behind the upper rear beast legs, which both Primal and Cheetor seem to have. I don't know if this is entirely possible -- beast modes can often be harder than vehicles because you don't have the luxury of a bulky alt mode to conceal robot parts in. And even then, automobile MPs still have exposed robot parts from the underside, moreso than these BW MPs. The BW TFs have always been impressive in that regard ('cept for Flipchangers, but considering that they're cheap and fully articulated One Step Changers (as opposed to AoE and RiD2015's poorly articulated and much more expensive One Steppers) it's easily forgivable :))

Cliffs look to be carved out of refrigeration foam or a similar hard polystyrene, with some paint and scenic flock and similar on top. It wouldn't be that hard to make.

Nope looks like your 100% correct, he's got a faux chest just like MP 10's faux stomach grill. It will definitely irk some. I have no problem with it myself as in the cartoon Cheetors beast head morphs into entirely different shape and proportions between modes, something that's only possible with CGI or cartoon trickery.

These are like the Optimus and Bumblebee of every other toyline - produced first or in great numbers to be bought by the general public who remember "that show" from way back when... but there are other characters who would benefit more from "Masterpiece Engineering".

(Cheetor has a lot of nice work done to it to resemble the cartoon version, but dear god, there are already waaay too many Cheetor toys that were already very similar to each other, for me to get too excited about yet another one.)

Loving what I am seeing, although it looks like there are going to be heaps of joints in the figure to get the lithe agile look from the cartoon, which may lead to looseness.

I personally prefer the gorgeous sculpted fur on the original toy, but having said that, the painted fur on MP Primal does look awesomely nice and is show-accurate (as is the intention of the toy). :)

The original Cheetor toy's gut (http://www.seibertron.com/images/ebay/fire-guts.jpg) gun does actually show intestines, but it's unpainted. The prototype had some pink on the intestines, and squinting at the blurry image it appears that the sculpt was different too -- looks like it had intestines on the crest of the stock but the rest was smooth... but it's not a great quality image so I can't be 100% certain. The TV show showed Cheetor's gut gun as having intestines throughout the upper chamber of the gun.

According to Dengeki (http://hobby.dengeki.com/reviews/313638/), release date has been changed to late February (from late January).

January releases can be problematic with Chinese New Year where many factory workers, in say China, take extended leave to go home to their hometown.

It's TakaraTOMY, so it'd be "Grapple*." Hasbro's would be Solar Storm Grappel**.

I think that would depend on which factories they're made in; if Cheetor follows Primal and gets made in Viet Nam, and Grapple follows Inferno and gets made in China, then I doubt the workload of one factory is going to affect the other.

Hey Gok, if you're reading this mate, what do the Japanese BW bio cards list as the heights for Primal and Cheetor? If I remember correctly, you've got a set of the nice fancy ones that list those kinds of details.

A green pre-production prototype has been acquired by a fan (http://news.tfw2005.com/2017/05/01/mp-34-cheetus-prototype-pics-cancelled-accessories-338284), and it shows two added accessories that didn't make it to the final version - the arm communicator from one of the first episodes of the cartoon... in two sizes, one for robot mode and one for cheetah mode.

Or maybe it's not cancelled, and will be included with a minor redeco later... like what they are doing with MP Optimus Primal (including the original toy accessories). It just wouldn't make as much sense though, if they do a toy-accurate deco (like Primal), and include cartoon accessories.
(then again, TakaraTomy have included accessories to redeco characters that belonged with the original version in the past, and a redeco here would need something new added, as the first MP Cheetor/Cheetus already has both of the "original toy" guns)

Would love to have that in my collection... but not at the prices they'll be asking for them. Lol.

No doubt some third party company would probably pick up on the communicator and attempt to sell them.
