The combined 'jet' mode is a bit disappointing, but the Energon Omega-type combined robot is pretty original.

Yea, pretty lame all over, but the robot mode does look interesting, until you wonder where two legs and two arms (back kibble), go off to...... :)

Not what I expected, but still quite... "interesting". Since I'm now collecting all Animated characters, will get him anyway. Who knows... the characters can end up being very interesting and likeable in Season 3.

MV75

Oh yea no doubt about that, I'll most likely love the characters, but I'm just not buying any of the toys.

I hope the jets are mistransformed or something, because they look really, really bad.

Oh, and apparently the combined mode is named Safeguard. (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HT83889#LargeImage)

Maybe someone can help me out here since I don't watch animated, but to be honest I really don't see what they are meant to be at all. Their individual alternate modes look like they are trying to be some type of jets but to me it looks like the head of a jet stuck on some legs.

And then the combined alternate form, well, I can rest any two transformers on top of each other.

I do understand that I haven't seen the series, but I have just been pretty impressed with the styalised look of the toys anyway (thus I bought Magnus) and this to me (coming from an outside perspective) looks like their engineering team has gone back to before G1.

Looks a bit meh. The combined mode is interesting, I just hope there are some hands hidden in the feet turned arms. No point to the vehicle combined mode. Waste of time there. The robot modes don't look to bad though. I kind of like them. Just wish they had like wings or something instead of just a V shaped hull

Nope, he/they are meant to be season 3 characters.

At least we now know they are part of the Autobot elite guard. They are going to have to be some stellar characters for me to pick them up (unless later pics show these ones to be mistransformed), the alt mode is lazy, the combined Jet mode even worse, and while the combined robot mode seems interesting (like the Energon omega style merge) it still does not look all that great, especially with the lack of hands.

At least the colours are really nice, and somewhat different.

My kingdom for some wings. Combined robot is intriguing. The cone of the jets actually is the first time I've seen a Jetfire resemble its cartoon Skyfire likeness (inverted air intake), but with no wings, it's sort of all wasted. Two unique heads is cool.

I suspect it was miss transformed, the combiner should have fists, turn over his "feet" maybe.

I really don't like it, first animated I don't like. :(

Stompy
2nd October 2008, 06:07 PM
Erm... wow. I didn't expect it to be like this. Even if the robot mode is mistransformed it's still quite regressive in design. The combined robot mode is not too bad but those arms are clearly legs. The jet mode is alright but I don't even want to get into the combined jet mode. Pegging two jets together is NOT a combination.

I admire them for trying, but we are really just getting one single robot twice with a combine feature that was engineered once and duplicated. Very poor for the animated standards.

+1 QFT

You know that the combined jet mode is epic fail when it looks worse than other combined jet modes from fourteen and twenty years ago...

I think the slits on the front of the legs are suppose to come out and make wings

But the accessories are missing and they could be vital, i think there is suppose to be a tailfin.

Judging from the head,http://www.tfu.info/2001/Autobot/RailRacer/facepic.jpg I think it is a homage to RID... three trains combiner, whatever the name is.

I like the innovation of the combined robot mode, although TBH similar concepts have been done before (the Multiforce did it 20 years ago, with better vehicle modes).

I actually don't mind them separately. It is just when they are joined that things go bad.
I do like they way they combine in robot mode though. It looks like an interesting way to do it. Just the colours could have been better....

I'm wondering about their size? Do we know what that is. The preorder price is a bit high. I'm guessing the two figures are probably going to be sold in a Voyager box. If these two figures came as a single deluxe that would be some good value.

Jetstorm will probably be keeping the hotheaded Jetfire in check. They'll probably be like Bulkhead and Bumblebee-the sensible one tries to keep the impulsive one under control.

Pulse
3rd October 2008, 07:28 PM
Yeah probably :).

I can definitely see them having opposing personalities - which provides the writers with ammunition for jokes a-plenty... :D

I wouldn't rush to judgment on the Jetfire and Jetstorm figures yet. Those are some pretty terrible pictures that are out there right now. The pictures I saw way back of the grey prototypes looked really good. And yes, of course they have hands! In both robot modes! The promo pics are just mistransformed. Once they are properly transformed and posed out, they should look pretty cool.

If I had a big corporation, I certainly wouldn't bring out official pictures of products that have errors. It's like McDonalds releasing a picture of their new burger but someone "misprepared" it and used two beef patties as buns instead of bread.

Unfortunately we do have the right to judge it if they release official stock photos. What else do we have to judge it with until we have the actual figure in our hands.

Looks like QC issues is not just isolated to the figures themselves.

But hold on, didn't these pics (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HT83889#LargeImage) come directly from Hasbro? Shouldn't they have made sure the figures were shown in their best light?

Those don't look like Transformers at all (no sign of any vehicle kibble). :/
Interestingly the red one's hands are doing a "Yin-Yang salute" typically used in Chinese Kung Fu, whereas the blue one is holding nunchaku, commonly used in Okinawan and Japanese peasant arts (although originally from China). An intentional dichotomy? It'd be interesting if one used a more aggressive form of fighting while the other used an passive fighting style. This was something used in The One's Jet Li Vs. Jet Li (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7woLiTBrB0) where good Jet Li used a passive style (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLrw5QcdSVo) whereas the evil Jet Li used a more aggressive form (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S3gE_TOB5I).
