I like how Starscream is based off the Classics toy. I hope that they do include toys from the wider CHUGUR/Classicsverse. :) Anyone know who that lavender robot is?

Rumour has it that Peter Jackson is in charge of the 'directors-cut extended edition' which clocks in at 6.5 hours of additional footage.

Finally, some real animation again. Never got into rid. Looked like a reskinned red cordial hyped mlp cartoon.

Finally some actual images from the cartoon, and it is only four days away... and after a year since its announcement.
The regular "series" starts August 2nd, but a four episode prelude begins June 28th.

Transformers: Combiner Wars, a new animated series debuting August 2nd on social entertainment platform go90 in the US, AMC Networks International Iberia in Spain and Portugal and in other territories to be announced at a later date.

Additionally, Davis and Gutstein announced that a prelude series to Transformers: Combiner Wars will launch on June 28 on YouTube, Facebook and go90. The four-episode Prelude to the Combiner Wars will help prepare fans for the full series by revealing the current state of Cybertron from the distinctive points-of-view of four characters.

As noted already, these are only 8 minute episodes, so probably not a lot will happen in each one. (not even enough to be combined to be "movie length" )

A shame about Windblade (the new Drift) getting the spotlight in yet another project. Can't she be just a backing character, or not be included at all in something at the moment... we are even going to have a second SDCC Windblade toy in two years.

That's a good point griffin and if the Machinima MK Legacy series is anything to go by, 1/3 of the episode will be taken up with a "previously on..."

I'd rather a good 8 minute mini story than endure another 2~3 hour Bayfest.

Doubt the show has the same animation. The pictures revealed earlier are animated differently. Besides, I kinda like that animation style. To each their own I guess

Yeah. one of the writers, George Krstic, just confirmed via twitter that only the preview is in a motion comic style, the series itself is fully animated.

Here's a Vimeo link for anyone who missed it because the fb one seems to be down.

I like the feel of it, I'm looking forward to the full blown animation of the series proper. Prime sounds funny, like Cullen on a bad day. Megatron doesn't sound like Welker at all.

There was mention of getting as many G1 voice actors involved as possible, I hope they get Welker in for the series proper if they use Megatron or any of the other characters he's created voices for.

Apparently it's not Cullen or Welker. I've heard that it's the Honest Trailers narrator doing Optimus Prime and I don't know who's doing Megatron. But yeah, that'd be why they sound a bit off.

That would be Jon Bailey as Optimus Prime

Yep - it is and it is terrible.
I really like Jon Bailey and his Epic Voice Guy/Honest Trailer stuff but his Prime is terrible.
It actually feels more like a mockery of Cullen to me than a homage.
I had a lot of trouble sitting through the video because the voice doesn't work with the imagery at all.

If they can't afford to get Peter they should have gone with a different voice, not a cheap imitation imho.

It just shows how important the quality of a good voice is to animation. You can take an awesome character like Optimus and really destroy who he is with bad voice work.

If they don't have Cullen and Welker for the rest of the series I probably won't be overly keen to watch any Optimus/Megatron scenes.

On the plus side I like the imagery. The characters look so much better than the RID 2015 animated renders. I actually don't mind the comic book style animation either for what this was supposed to portray but a proper animation sequence will look amazing.

This trailer doesn't really show much of anything, guess I'll wait till the actual show, prequel thingy comes out.

On the subject of the voice, It is a change so hard for long time fans to get used to. I don't really think Jon Bailey does a terrible job but he goes a bit to deep, and draws too heavily on the modern movie Prime so I too found it a little jarring. I would have preferred they cast someone closer to the Dr Smoov voice actor who sounds a bit closer to Cullens youthful G1 Optimus voice.

At some point as fans I think we have to accept some new blood to take over, Cullen's getting on in years and he already sounds vastly different to the Prime of old. Either that or they have to get some new leaders to take over, and we know Hasbro's not going to allow that.

I wonder if it's because Cullen's schedule is already quite busy voicing Optimus Prime for Robots In Disguise and The Last Knight. I agree that the Honest Trailer voice does sound more like Cullen's current Optimus Prime voice as opposed to his G1 Optimus Prime voice. His current voice is very much slow and sounds more like a quote engine (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t_ok9Zt_6Q) rather than actually speaking with people (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjjCHjYaSDM).

I agree and I think personally I would have rather they gone with a completely different voice than an attempted copy-cat version of movie Prime.

Whilst Peter Cullen will always be my Optimus I am open to a different voice if they can get something that is unique enough yet still has the command and humble qualities imbued by the original.

But then people will complain that he sounds too different. There are some fans who will cry foul (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ruined_FOREVER) whenever there's anything different and hate on it just because it's different. We saw it with the "Trukk Not Munkee" mob when Beast Wars came out, as well as people who sent death threats (yes) to Bob Skir and Michael Bay for Beast Machines and Bayformers. I have serious criticisms against BM and Bayformers, but none of them are based on the premise of "because it's different." And while Michael Bay has a thick hide that allows him to shrug off such vitriol, we know that Bob Skir did not fare as well and was seriously upset by people making threats against him and his family.

But yeah, it's thanks to this mentality that Hasbro errs on playing it 'safe' and maintaing the status quo by sticking close with G1 as possible. And for those who are wondering why Transformers rarely strays away from G1... yep.

Came into this thread ready to ask what's wrong with Prime's voice? Reading the above, it all makes sense now. Knew something was off.

On the voice front, why don't they do the slight robot voice they did on the G1 cartoon. It's easy to do, duplicate the track and shift the timing of one of the tracks very very slightly and it sounds better.

Here's a quick edit I did. It still has some music and crap in there, but you get the general gist of things. Meg still aint the best, but Prime sounds a bit better.
