Well no more teasers, just straight into the pics. Finally managed to almost finish this little project. Just the stickers to come which I am still debating. There is also a tease for my next custom in the final pic.

Let me know your thoughts. I really enjoy taking all these ones apart. After the next one I may switch to using an airbrush and see how that works out.

I've been debating whether to use a G1 seeker missile launcher as his guns or to use something else. The something else I am trialing in the pic is a modified gun from G1 Metroplex.

Nice teaser, better than a shillouette :D

In regards to your debate about what to use for the missles.
Why don't you just use both ??
Then that gives you both that modern look or that vintage updated look.

Yeah I couldn't help myself with that pun :p

Re: the missiles, biggest issue is lack of junker pieces. I want to do a few more custom seekers and don't want to waste both on 1 piece when I can only display it with one or the other. The gun in the picture is just a test using a junker metroplex gun. If I do go ahead with those (which I'm leaning towards) then I will make them so they fire with missiles.

Fair enough, just don't oversize the missiles too much or it'll make the figure look squat in robot mode, since the emphasis will become the large missile launchers. But, this is just opinion ok, nothing else :)

It looks great, especially when teamed up with the other two, I'm not sure how much I like the weapons. but that's just me.

I know what you mean about the weapons. I was taking my inspiration from this picture (https://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/a/a0/Red_Wing_profile_image.jpg).

I wanted a similar weapon and colour scheme but also needed it to be able to use missiles like the original seekers to give it that G1 feel. Unfortunately they are a little bigger than I would have liked.

ah, I get it, the generations seeker mould. :cool:

ironically I have a design for replacement guns for those that I never got around to producing, past a prototype that didn't quite work. something more akin to the size of the G1 weapons relative to the new vehicle size. also converted between missile and arm weapon. I really should get on to that at some point.

Because it's utter class. The visual appeal of both modes is so well designed.

I had started this just before my second son was born. Customizing took a back seat for a while but didn't realise it had been that long haha.

So did you just spray it straight on the toy, or did you have to lay down a primer first? From the photos, it looks like a nice smooth finish

Two coats of primer first after a thorough cleaning of each piece followed by two coats of the paint and a coat of clear lacquer.

Thanks mate. Clearly a case of "mine's bigger than yours" will be going around haha. Now to decide which seeker to do next (well after the current one I'm working on).

I agree the finish is awesome! The red used and little bits white made me really wonder what a G1 Seeker in G1 (toy) Jetfire colours would look like..

As for your next project, is it the purple seeker?

When I did Acidstorm I was really surprised at just how well the detail on the panels, especially the wings, still shows even after so many coats.

Purple seeker... what makes you say that?

Very good guess! I realised I posted a pic that had a purple paint in the background. I figured you were a super sleuth haha.
