So Pokemon go has been released! The wife and I took the Bub for a good hour long walk around the neighbourhood.
Already caught a staryu and eevee as well as the early game mons. Easy to play but what a battery hog! Lost 70% of my battery in that hour from just having the app running in my pocket!

Damn I didn't even notice the battery drain until I read this post and then looked at my phone. 1 hour and down 60% on my Samsung Note 4... This is not something you will be able to spend the whole day on without a battery charger close by.
The pokemon capture is novel but I am more looking forward to trainer battles. No idea how that works yet but that is the fun part.
I chose Charmander first and have Eevee, rattata, caterpie, weedle, pidgey, venonat and poliwag already.

Is it just me or is there not much to do other than walk around and throw pokeballs? I was hoping i could battle friends but I think that only works at a gym?

I've been in bed sick all day
And I wake up to find that all my friends have started playing Pokemon go.
I've got some catching up to do.
So far I have Charmander, Catterpie, Pidgey and Gastly
Depending on how I feel I may be going for a walk tomorrow

I just spent the last hour walking around Cronulla in my lunch break. Picked up a lot of Pidegys, rattatas and even a few eevees. Found an Oddish on my keyboard and a rattata on the toaster when I went to make lunch :p

It does look fun. Will probably try this soon.

That's a good point. I didn't even realise that. Yeah it is not a game I would suggest playing if you are going to be out all day without a charger.

Is anyone else able to get Pokémon Go in Japanese (i.e. with original Japanese names instead of the dub names)? I tried to download the Japanese version, but I got geoblocked!

Also, apparently the Japanese version is currently just the Beta. :/ Hopefully the full version will be out when I'm in Japan in late Sept/early Oct and I can just download the full Japanese version from inside Japan. :o

Hopefully walking around at work proves to be more beneficial

Seems that the more popular an area is, Ye better Pokemon you get. We drove up from the South Coast back to Sydney and stopped in at the Kiama blowhole. Very popular, managed to get some far more powerful Pokemon from spots where people had lures set up.
Had no internet for half a week so now I feel so far behind, the two local gyms have 400CP Pokemon guarding them and I don't know if I'll ever be able to catch up!

But since I'm not able to go outside right now due to a bad cold I haven't been able to do or catch much yet
I'll No doubt be too far behind once I can start playing for real, but that won't stop me from trying to catch 'em all and take on the gyms
Although looking at the map, my town is a bit of a barren wasteland in terms of gyms and poke stops So I may need to try travelling around a bit

I was supprised that there are so many people playing on the street. Huge groups around the pokestop with lures active. Some were in a group, some with their partner and solo people like me playing to show my kids or toddlers.
So far, I had manage to plonk 1 pokemon in the gym, but mistake of putting a weak one in as I am not sure how it works. Its stuck there while I got more powerful ones available which should had gone in the Gym.
The big question = power up first or evolve first?
I had evolve first, but I think powering up first seems to be better, not too sure, some say evolve first then power up. Out of stardust at the moment.

Turns out I'm impatient, if I wait until the next few Pokemon show up, the actual leader is a 1200CP Dragonair.
So envious of people who have stable connections, went for an hours walk and I only got 100m added to my eggs, the wife had 4km. She only caught rattata and oddish as it is our local area, seems the farther away from home, the better the Pokemon are.

Also, check out the way that the lady in the video horrifically mispronounces "Pokémon," she says "Poh-keh-mon" instead of "Pock-eh-mon." Looks like she's unaware that "Pokémon" is short for "Pocket Monsters," and you pronounce "pocket" as "pock-eht," not "poke-it." Seriously, who says things like, "I put my phone in my back "poke-it," or "Empty your poke-its." Pocket! The English spelling of Pokémon even deliberately places an accent mark over the "e" to tell people that the stress should fall on the second syllable, not the first. We don't pronounce words like café as "kaffer," or touché as "two-sher" etc. I personally would've Romanised it as "Pockemon," because everyone pronounces "Pocky" fairly correctly (you don't read it as "Pokey"), but alas, the official spelling is Pokémon.

The anime's English dub (and other media) has always pronounced it "Poh-keh-mon." So it's no surpirse that everyone (or vast majority) pronounces it that way.

lets play game, how you or people pronounce it doesn't really matters.
While walking home yesterday I saw a lure active at a nearby park and decided to walk there to check it out. It was quite dark and I was quite worry of getting robbed, saw a group of people there, few cars pull up, few cars drove away... catch a few pokemon and quickly walk off. Dont want to get robbed or bashed as I am alone. Wouldnt have even consider walking near the park in the dark previously.

You can also team up with friends and take down gyms at the same time, if the game does not freeze, glitch or otherwise malfunction!
Types also come into consideration, so if you have an under strength Laura's going up against a stronger arc anime, you should still have an advantage.

So long as it doesn't involve trespassing or any other illegal activity, so be it. People have been seen running onto freeways and other far more serious/dangerous areas chasing pokemon, so while it can be seen as inappropriate, I think walking through museums/graveyards/etc is the least of our concerns.
Personally, I think the game should use it's GPS tracking to block itself from working whenever it detects movement of over say 20km/h, that way people can't use it while driving - this is becoming the most serious problem atm.

Yeah the amount of people I see showing up to pokestops in cars is amazing. I just hope they arent trying to catch them whilst driving too...
The problem is that it would be very difficult, i imagine, to program the game to prevent pokemon showing up inside buildings. I think people should just use commonsense and a bit of etiquette. I don't see an issue with a museum being a Pokestop (generally the location is outside such as out the front). If anything it is attracting people to the area who may be willing to go inside, not to hunt pokemon but to actually see the site they are there for.
I know I have seen some interesting artwork throughout Surry Hills that I never would have seen if not for this game.

I've been having good fun with this when I am in a larger city for work, around home there isn't much to go after. I've been able to get to the wharf when lures were active so I could catch some water pokemon and at work I can sit on a PokeStop all day getting XP
- and just as I was leaving someone added a lure to that PokeStop and I managed to get some very high CP Pokemon and some new additions to the team.

I managed to get it on my phone here in Japan, but I don't think its properly released yet.
No pokemon around except in the areas near gyms., None near my house, which I find odd. Surely there's some kind of programming behind how the pmons are distributed. ALthough I am concerned about the effect it will have on people roaming around looking for them.
There's enough people to get in my way normally, without me having to push through ppl looking for pokemon.
On a tech side, I am rather fascinated by the application (was never really into pokemon that much), but the AR camera thing is cool, and I bet the people making it will be making lotsa cash. I'm sure companies could pay to have their site as a poke-whatever and they'll make some good bucks.

Question: with the Australian version, are you forced to use the dub names or can you also set it to use the original Japanese names? Yes you are "forced" to use the "dub" names. Nobody in the English-speaking world cares about the Japanese names and it's never an option in the games for English-speaking audiences. If you use names like Dogars (instead of Koffing) we don't know what you're talking about :p

I don't know the Anglophone names for Pokémon because I've never watched Pokémon dubbed. Simple as that. I'm not deliberately avoiding the use of their dub names, I just don't know them. I did also provide an image link to the Pokémon in question.
All I wanted to know was if the language option existed in this game or not (and I do have games purchased in the UK and AU which have different language options). You would not play an awesome new game because the names are in English? Just because the name is spelt one way doesn't mean you can't read it as another. Further, like with the original game, you can rename them so you can just change to the spelling you want.
Server is down so I can't check if there is a language feature but I don't think there is from memory.

As far as I know there is no way to change the language in Pokemon go
And definitely no way to switch the names to their Japanese versions (romaji)
The only Pokemon game I know of with a language feature is Pokemon X and Y for 3DS which due to their worldwide simultaneous release had a language option upon first start up
But even then it was full language not just dub names.
If you'd rather use the Japanese names I'd suggest waiting for the Japanese release or just using the option to nickname your Pokemon to give them the names you prefer
In other news I didn't challenge the gym today. But I did catch a Staryu and hatch a Ponyta and Caterpie

I'm not a fan (i.e. person with fanatical interest) of Pokémon by any means (if I were, then sure, I would be less fussed). It's just that was living in Japan around when the Pokémon craze started so it was everywhere, especially in toy sections/stores when I'd go hunting for Beast Wars Transformers. It's just something that is nostalgic of my time as an exchange student so having the names in another language pretty much detracts that nostalgia for me. I have a friend who generally watches all anime subtitled, but when it comes to Macross he absolutely prefers watching Robotech because of the nostalgia. :o

Just cleaned up my caught Pokemon list and have figured out what I can evolve to get to the next evolution, and what I can evolve purely to gain XP for my human character so he can go up a level
So next time I am a) next to a lure b) have time, I will a) set of a lucky egg, b) set of incense and go forth and see what happens
My walking egg hatches are sadly not producing any decent/new Pokemon for the collection and my supply of 10KM eggs has been replaced by 2KM which are not giving me the starter Pokemon or Pikachu!
Hopefully the weekend I can get to a different area of the city and see what I can find ..

the are lots of risks people facing now with this POKEMON GO, the major risk i found is that its app gained access to a user's Google account without their knowledge. Even though the company explained that the problem resulted from using an outdated version of Google's sign-in service, there were those who claimed that the move was in fact intentional. However, the developers finally released the app's very first update that not only dealt with said issue but fixed several other bugs as well.

No doubt, the game has a few floors but hopefully its just the early stages causing these issues and they will be ironed out soon along with updates to allow pvp and trading.

Digimon was still in its infancy when I was in Japan. I was aware of it and there were ads and stuff, but Pokémon and Tamagotchi were WAAAY more popular. I think Digimon gained more momentum in the following year, by which time I was already back in Australia. :o I never got into Digimon, but I have heard that it does actually have a better and character-driven story with an ongoing story arc.

I got technical this afternoon and started using the Ingress XM locations outside of the CBD to try and find spawn locations for Pokemon. It was very telling around home as to why I do not find anything - almost no XM around my town at all.
Did lead me to some good finds so hopefully I can start tracking down more locations.
The only issue that that the zoom out function of the map in Ingress is small, so I have to keep on stopping to check things out.

Finally took on a gym
This high CP Seaking absolutely destroyed my team
And I wasn't really sure what I was doing so that didn't help
On the plus side I caught a very powerful Pinsir in the same Lek as where that gym was. So it wasn't a total failure
With my new Pinsir I may stand a better chance next time
Also it's crazy how different being in the CBD is to being in my hometown. Just walking down the street from Flinder Street Station to Big W I managed to FILL MY BAG
Whereas for the last few days while I've been at home I have been struggling to even get any items
And thanks to all the people using Lure Modules there are SO many Pokemon there that I couldn't catch back Home
Just walking around the CBD I caught a Vulpix, Horsea, Slowpoke, Machop and Cubone as well as several Rattata and Pidgey
Here all I ever find are Rattata Pidgey Caterpie Weedle Paras and the occasional Bulbasaur (that last one is kinda neet at least)
Will definitely need to start going on more excursions to other locations

Just went up to the blue mountains to a park with 7 poke stops in a nice walking loop, had to keep emptying my bag from all the extraneous revives and potions!
Caught a meowth and a ryhorn, hadn't ever seen them before, as well as some more eevee and clefairy, getting close to evolving them now.
On the way back we spotted a gym about 2km from home with a lowly raticate guarding it at 315CP. My 345 Scyther took it out and so I finally ran a gym.
By the time we got home 5 minutes later I was no longer the leader, but I got 10 coins and 500 stardust which was a nice bonus.

A yellow team member joined our group, under guise of being in blue team, and then stole the information off our spreadsheet, posted that we were dumb and then went back to his own group bragging about how he stole it.

Think it has to do with your trainer level in part, but most of my catches aren't powerful. If I take out Pokemon I've evolved and powered up, Golduck is far above the other most powerful four catches in the 230s to 270s. Everything else is under 200CP.

Disagree, much better off spamming Weedle and Caterpies into the Metapods and Kakunas and eventually finding a Beedrill/Butterfrie in the wild as odds are it will be 1 - Much higher level CP when you find one and 2 - Only 12 candies are required as opposed to 100 to evolve from the 1st evolution to the 2nd than from 2nd to 3rd. Every bit of EXP helps after you hit 20 and have to grind it out.

I tried this method in the first week, but then when I started leveling I found wild Pokemon stronger than the ones I slowly enhanced. This was a Slowbro I took up to cp1000, and then later catching a wild Slowbro with cp1100. Didn't make sense to keep the one I was growing so had to 'transfer' him to the butcher professor to be processed through his meat tenderizer to make in exchange for mincemeat 'candy'.

It doesn't look like it for the time being. Otherwise its a no brainer for a business owner to pay for several lures during the day (meal hours). Most of the time you would be able to spot one very serious customer taking advantage of the lure they've dropped down.

Since the three step nearby issue is still around (some say it is deliberate), I have been using a few suggestions from programmers and utilizing "bots" in order to scan my local town and the larger city I work in, in order to a) find the spawn points and b) find what spawns there
With only a few days data, I have already been able to find a few nests where one Pokemon seem to exclusive live, along with other areas that have a higher number of some of the less common items.
It all still comes down to luck and timing however as to what will spawn when you visit the area at the correct time. Due to needing to collect multiples in order to get candies and evolve, along with how a Pokemon will get stronger as you level up I can already see multiple visits in my future to these locations.
All of this is of course against the terms of service, but it does actually make the game fun, otherwise my only hope of getting some items is via hatching eggs.

I think the population is key. I'm in country Japan, and with very few gyms, even less pokestops and a smattering of Pokemon around the area.
However, I headed into Kobe when I was off on holiday and pokestops/gyms everywhere. Pokemon out the wahzoo. Completely different to what I see daily. Oddly, after coming back from the holiday, I had no pokeballs, a short slow bus ride through kobe and I had amassed 60 just because I manage to pass so many pokestops on the way.
I kind of wish that the pokemon were more realistically distributed. Like grass pokemon in grass areas, say Ponytas in wide spaces, water pokemon by the sea/pools etc. I get the feeling that isn't actually the case.
i'm not sure if it is related or not but i heard something about mcdonalds getting involved in some countries, so if you go to a mcdonalds it has some kind of pokemon related thing there.
McDonalds is definitely associated in Japan. They've made it quite public knowledge.
On a slight side note, there is a local Otaku who was level 25 by the night of the first day release here in Japan, and had a Magmar placeed on the closest gym to me. Now, that is a lot of work considering hwo the game got releaed at about 10.30 that day. I noticed the gym taken at about 8pm.
Yesterday I had a look and the also has a Gyarados. Meaning he has already picked up 200 Magikarp.

As you can imagine, me and my weak buddies have made it our mission to take him down whenever we see him at a gym. No matter how much it costs us (in potions etc) ;) :D

Eastwood station is a gym and while I was at my mates place it changed hands at least 15 times in two hours!
Population definitely makes a difference, I caught more and a wider variety of Pokemon in two hours at Eastwood than I do in a day at Penrith, more players does seem to equal more Pokemon.

Read something about how far your Pokemon is along it's arc before it evolves is where it will be when it evolves, which could mean a powered up first evolution will be on par with where a second evolution would be if you evolved first.
Best advice I saw was to not evolve any starter level Pokemon until you have enough candy to evolve it to the final stage. I've found that good suggestion as have definitely found more powerful Pidgeys and Ratattas than the first one I evolved.

I'd recommend never powering up a Pidgey/Pidgeotto as they're just so common.
Haven't played in a while but I'm level 22 and found 3 Pidgeys today that were all CP 250+. I'd suggest just catching as many of them as you can and grinding them into Pidgeottos for now for level exp.
When it comes to Pidgeys and Ratatas, I'd rather save my stardust for eventually powering up the eventual legendarys or rare pokemon like Dragonite or Snorlax - because chances are you'll find a higher CP Pidgeot/Pidgeotto/Raticate in the wild when you're a higher level. I've got just under 140,000 Stardust at the moment - just need to catch a Dragonite!

Neither
Only evolve "commons" in order to gain XP (while using a lucky egg) and do not evolve any others until you reach level 30 which means you should be finding the strongest versions in the wild.
Then you can evolve your best and then spend your stardust raising them even further.

CP 153 - 294 - 524
CP 155 - 297 - 529
CP 329 - 618 - 1089
So that 170 odd difference early on, makes for roughly 500 by 3rd evolution. So seems spending time to power them up early will pay off in the long run

Catching ponytas and voltorbs at the opera house was fun, but really showed me that as nice as living in the suburbs is, if you want all the Pokemon, the city is the place to be!
My wife and our friends went from level 15 to 17 just from stops and catching, but will inevitably go higher once they crack a lucky egg and get evolving. My wife went from 46 caught to 80, again, before evolving.

Just did some quick maths - the ratio of the increase for each is the same
1 - 2 = 1.92
2 - 3 = 1.78
Which corresponds with what I've noticed with the progress bar, which appears to stay the same regardless of evolution. (ie - if your Pidgey is 25% of its max CP prior to evolution, your Pidgeotto will be 25% of its max CP after evolution)
The real test will be to get two pokemon at the same CP level and compare two training methods
1 - buff to a chosen CP then evolve it
2 - evolve then buff to the chosen CP
Time to farm some Zubat to test this theory...

It is said that each individual Pokemon have (are born with) their own individual values (commonly abbreviated as IV's). Having said that, it seems the greatest possible difference between two similar pokemons with the same CP is only around 10%. So by the time you fully max out two of the same Pokemon, one will most likely have higher stats than the other (attack, defence, stamina)
So if one is looking to get THE perfect Pokemon, those are the stats they will be looking at - even if it is only 10% max difference.
There are calculators online to help determine the figures and whether or not you have an average version of your particular Pokemon or whether you have an "elite" version.
It can also help you determine which of the duplicates you might want to invest in stardust on over the other when the time comes to want to power them up.

Took some visiting friends and Pokemon go players on a tourist run through circular quay, botanical gardens, opera house, rocks and darling harbour. I only played a little yet still caught over 50 mons and filled my bag with poke balls at the ridiculous number of poke stops.
Crazy!
Or drop by a nearby uni... the one I passed by, I notice that there are so much pokestops and they are so much closer then Circular Quay area. No free parking nearby else I would had stop and try my luck.
I saw my first pikachu near opera house, but couldnt catch it. Still havent seen another pikachu so far.

So if one is looking to get THE perfect Pokemon, those are the stats they will be looking at - even if it is only 10% max difference.
Got a couple of friends hunting for a near-perfect Magikarp (cp180-200) before using their candies to evolve. I've got to Gyarados maxed already, and yes their CP is only within 5% difference, and only 1hp difference. I'm more interested in just getting one with Hyperbeam.
I hate the new upgrade, they change the curve ball throw mechanics slightly and I have to re-adjust again.
Also, nobody wants to stay in their Pokeballs anymore.
I saw my first pikachu near opera house, but couldnt catch it. Still havent seen another pikachu so far.
I've caught 3-4 at Rhodes before they took down all 3 Pokestops in the main park, and 1 at the Opera House despite only going there once. I find him more of a nuisance because it takes so many tries to capture. Before Pokevision went down my buddy found a park with 3 Pikachus spawning and nothing else.

Hey Zippo, did you see this article about NZ's Pokemon capital (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11687181)?
he he
My hubs has been playing a week. He's just hit level 24 and has 94 unique pokemon.
He mostly gets what I call "dead fish" - magikarp(?) and pidgy's (some bird thing). Our apartment is on the water so maybe that's why these floppy things keep appearing. When he's out he seems to get a lot of bat-things (zubats?)...
I collect stuff for him while we're driving around but he's started taking buses everywhere as they are slow enough to collect a lot of the pokestops easily.
He says the gym in our complex changes hand on average around every 15 minutes. It's kind of crazy. We have people of all ages sitting next to the fountain (which is the poke-gym) just battling for hours. Seems kind of fruitless to me when you know you're just gunna be beaten.

Bulbasaur's one of my favourite. I have a venusaur and enough bulbasuar candies to create another one. Waiting for the right time to pop a lucky egg.
I am also collecting magikarps. Need 100 of them (400 candies to evolve)
You just need to put your pokemon in the gym when the counter is down to 0 to collect the coins, dont need to hold it for long. If not greedy 10 coins per day. Sometimes, you can just walk pass and slot one in when it changes hands.

One thing about it is that nowadays its difficult to catch pokemons, even with razzberries and ultra balls, 100-200 CP rare stuffs like bulbasuar, squirtle all still break out easily using curve throw and at the smallest circle. Used to be able to just catch them with normal balls and razzberries.

Pop a lucky egg if you're gonna evolve a heap of Pidgey, gains a lot of XP that way. And try catch more than 100 Magikarp, get the one you want to the highest CP you can before evolving

Yeah the pidgey evolving seems to be the most efficient way. I farmed up 300 candies then popped an egg and just started evolving. It's a boring 30 mins but gets you a lot of xp fast.
I would also suggest waiting until you are at least well into the 20s before evolving your magikarp. I made this mistake early and now it costs a hell of a lot of stardust to increase CP every time I lvl up.

Yeah the break free & escape rates have all gone up. With the 3 starting Pokemon it seems like their aggression level has geared up drastically - even CP150 Bulbasaurs/Squirtles get a dark orange circle. I have almost given up on catching Charmander - only ever seen/caught 2.

I did the pidgey method, and a whole bunch of other evolves, especially to ones I didn't have for extra XP.
Getting enough Magikarp to evolve would take most people into their 20's before they had enough. I mean hell, I've only just got over 100 candy now lol

Yep, I've only spent about 3 hrs in the past week (which is a sharp fall from the previous week). That time was only spent chasing the last 10 Dratinis I needed from Parramatta River to make Dragonite (I was lucky to catch the first 30 Dratinis at Redfern Park before the update which turned them into Eevees). Only glancing at the game during lunch now, but have noticed much fewer lures around the city.
Of the 5 other friends playing, we've still got one that's completely obsessed with getting to level 40 and catching the perfect IV Pokemon.

I still havent evolve them yet... got over 200 candies each for the commons like pidgeys, caterpies, widget and the other pokemons. Like I say waiting for the right time. I can get like 10-15 magikcarp per day, I dont have the patience to sit and wait for them to respawn at their nest cause I always see a squirtle nearby and go hunting for it but cant seem to find it. I've been dropping off playing this as well. The main reason is because I have hit level 14 and even crap pokemon are popping up very rarely. There's only one pokestop that is nearby (and even then it's not that close), but the biggest reason is there is bugger all to do in the game.
Catch pokemon.
Send them to the grinder for candy. Evolve them.
That's it.
The new Pokemon I see are so few, I'll never get to having 50 Ponytas candies and None of my pokemon are good enough to gym battle.
On top of that, having pretty much bugger all idea about pokemon, I don't know what type is stronger than another type and when I have gym battled, I have no idea whats going on, coz the game hasn't explained anything.
Long story short, it's a game with nothing to do.
I'd be fine with just collecting pokemon, if they actually showed up at a dcent rate, but they don't and when the do now, they are just too much of a pain in the arse to capture.

I'm still playing. On the bus and train there's some skill to hitting the Pokestop at just the right spot so you claim it before your zoom too far past it.
I need to do more/longer walks and having the game going makes that a bit more enjoyable. Route a path through a few pokestops, catch some random Pokemon. Paid off: caught a Wartortle on Sunday which I'd never seen before in the wild.
Caught a few more powerful Pokemon on my way to/from work now that I'm at level 19. A CP772 Sandslash and CP958 Pinsir I caught over the last 24 hours are the most powerful in my collection.
I'd like to complete the Pokedex and that's enough for me. The training/gym battles doesn't interest me much.

Are you guys finding after the latest update it is too sensitive about how "fast" you are walking?
I took my son walking down the street today and twice within 500 metres it told us we were moving too fast and an "i'm a passenger" dialogue kept popping up.
It seems like the GPS is bouncing around (which is expected in HK given all the high rises) to a point where trying to hatch an egg has become incredibly difficult here because the app now thinks it is constantly in a moving vehicle.

If it isn't too hard to encounter Magikarps in your area, I would prefer to wait for a high level and aim to catch a much stronger one. At level 24 I came across cp150+ Magikarps about 10% of the time.
For rarer Pokemon, like my Bulbasaur, I went with a lower CP (about 70% of its max potential) but more perfect IV stats (~90%).

I wouldn't power anything up until after it evolves. The move set the Pokemon has after it evolves might not be something you are happy with and you may regret having spent the star dust. At least after the Pokemon evolves, you can see the move set that it has and you can decide whether you are happy with the moves and then choose to either power it up or leave it be. (If that made sense)

My folks just spent 4 weeks in the US and I was tempted to ask them to catch one over there for me (ie log into my account and catch it) but decided against it for fear of being banned. Would have been nice though.
On the popularity side, yeah the game has died quickly. This is what happens when they open the game only partly finished and don't provide any major updates since it came out. I had a FB group that was active daily, now it is down to maybe 1 or 2 posts from members a week.
They are so focused on rolling it out to other countries that they are not providing current players with incentives to keep playing. Only so much appeal you can get from constantly throwing pokeballs and gym battles.
I turn it on maybe once a week if I have nothing better to do. Otherwise I'm done with the game until some decent content arrives. It shouldn't take this long for PVP, trading and a better system for raising and battling pokemon.
Don't even get me started on the battle system which is just a tapping frenzy, no skill really involved. I miss the old Gameboy battle system.

According to the official Pokémon GO Trainer guidelines (https://support.pokemongo.nianticlabs.com/hc/en-us/articles/221993967) players are, shockingly, not allowed to cheat.
"Methods of cheating, unfortunately, are limited only by cheaters’ imaginations, but include at a minimum the following:... sharing accounts...".
The Pokémon GO Terms of Service (https://www.nianticlabs.com/terms/pokemongo/en) states that:
"...our Trainer Guidelines... govern your use of our Services."
In other words, breach of the Guidelines can give rise to a reason to apply the banhammer. Given that they can "terminate your access to and use of the Services, at [their] sole discretion, at any time and without notice to you", there is a good chance that you could get banned for this.
For the time being I wouldn't suggest account sharing. Just wait until trading starts, which at the current rate should be some time in the next 5 years...

If your phone is rooted you can supposedly download unofficial apps that help you cheat in the game. So based on their thinking, everyone who has a rooted phone is a cheat and is banned from playing on a rooted device. Since all my devices are rooted the game is over for me...

The stupid thing though is that the cheats are the ones who will be able to figure out how to circumvent this whilst us not so tech savvy people (I had a friend root my phone for me) will be screwed. All this will do is prevent those who don't cheat from playing. Stupid move. Wonder if I can get a refund on my coin purchases.

With my "new" list down to 13 Pokemon that I can at the moment, my reason for hunting is candies and XP.
Being able to use the plus while driving gives me a chance to get a few Stop and Pokemon I wouldn't have been able to get before.

I'm staying in Chatswood.
Glad to hear the Kangaskahn is kind of common. The bird thing specific to Asia is quite hard to come by here. My son has only caught 2 since he started playing.
We don't need magicarp though... god - the less of them the better. We live next to the water here in HK so they spawn in our apartment ALL THE TIME! Gyarados is one of the most common pokemon in gyms here, along with dragonite.
My kids and hubby love the spots where 3 pokestops overlap. There's a spot in Victoria Park here in HK where you can't keep up with all the pokemon spawning if they all have lures on them (and thousands of people will just stand around there catching endless pokemon for hours)... and you tend to get semi-rare to rare pokemn from that spot every 10 minutes or so.
Aside from Taronga Zoo not planning to do the touristy stuff as I'm there to let my in-laws spend quality time with their grandchildren so generally we'll be hanging out in Chatswood and the 'burbs...
Do the shopping centres have pokestops in them? eg Toys R Us here have pokestops they intentionally lure so people will want to come linger in their store...

I have actually been looking at a "quick" trip across to Sydney just to be able to try and locate a few Pokemon I need, and of course the region exclusive.
Sadly accommodation costs way more than I want to pay!
Another HK trip just for Pokemon would be nice, but not for another year at least!!
Since we have finally had some decent weather, I have been hunting out Squirtle and Bulbasaur areas after work in order to gather more candies. On the way back from an average hunt tonight I stopped in the industrial area at "spawn time". As my map reloaded and I checked out the sightings area, I spotted a silhouette - Blastoise was in the area.
Managed to track him down and then spent an annoying 5 minutes throwing my best curved ultra balls at him. Somewhere around the 15th I finally caught my highest CP Pokemon and managed to cross one more off my list
It was also amazing watching all the cars come and stop right where Blastoise was .. this is normally a very quiet area and a place I have been to often. Somehow the word got out very quickly that Blastoise was there.

Circular Quay area, you can get like 5 pokestop overlap by walking few steps... 3 are together, another 2 is few steps away. Activate a lure and walk around them. Sadly I have only manage to go there 2 times so far.
Sydney Fish Market and the park next to it or Hyde park in CBD.
I have only caught 122 or evolve Pokemons so far.
Kangaskhan is everywhere, sometimes I dont even bother catching him as its hard to get him and no use for the candies.

It's annoying that now if you see a Pokémon in a gym it counts towards your seen total even though you've not seen them in the wild. Went from 88 seen and caught (been waiting for weeks to get closer to 100 with a lucky egg evening of evolving) but now I'm 88 caught from 93 seen.
I too would love to know where people find lapras, electabuzz, fossils and so many dratini. I'm guessing heavily populate pokestops may have something to do with it. I've only hatched an aerodactyl and haven't even seen a growlithe yet so many nearby gyms have arcanines!

I am really surprised by how common Khangastan is. We've caught something like 10 of them so far... the Farfetch'd is REALLY hard to find in Hong Kong... you can search for a month and still not get it.
However I do notice some of the semi-rare Pokémon seem more common here like Machops and dodrio and more evolved Pokémon appear more frequently. It certainly makes it harder to have a full bag when you have so many fewer pokestops to access though. And a lot harder to get coins as the gyms are so few and they all seem to be level 8 or 10...
It's almost a different game in oz to what it is in Hong Kong... just my observation anyways.

It depends on your area I think. Our home in HK is right on the water so we get lots of dratini. We have a park close by that was a nest for Jynx but has now become a nest for growlithe/ valpix... so I guess there are nests in Sydney too? You'll just have to find them perhaps...

The tracker maps online let us see parks or golf clubs that are nests for certain Pokemon. Sometimes they even stayed the same while the rest of the areas saw a shift in the Pokemon population of that area.
For example, omanyte was around Melbourne museum, Pikachu at a nearby park, electabuzz was at a golf club. These would rescan all day every day. The Pikachu park luckily changed just before the maps died to Kabuto park.
Albert park lake (F1 Grand Prix) has had a few changes, ghastly (we found wild final evolve so didn't bother) abra (2 nights and we had enough for alakazam) and vulpix.

I hung around CQ for a few hours (my second time there for Pokemon) waiting for my partner to finish work on Monday night. Caught 3 Dratinis, 1 Dragonair, several Kabutos, Nidoqueen, and Hitmonlee. On my first time there I caught Lapras and Snorlax (over a month ago, during the hype).
Belmore Park near Central is a good spot for Kabuto. I've previously caught Kabutops from Rhodes though.
Got Omanyte and Omastar from Parra river.

I found random Aerodactyl at a park near where I stay, I saw him on the map, click on him but got the gym he was standing nearby, close the gym but he was gone. Spewing. Then saw him again at another park/playground nearby few days later and got him, about CP1400. I found a few Jinx at a park at one night, but when I went back there next time, none of them turn up, which was very strange. I also need more voltorb and magnemites. I found some dratinis at those large drains but still not enough to evolve a dragonite, usually go there to find magikarps.
Magamar always turn up at Eastwood park. Havent go there for the last month so not sure if its still valid or not.
I spend an hour and quite a lot of potions to take a level 10 gym down to level 7 as majority of the strong pokemons are in the gym. Also I need to clear some of the potions as I got too much. The next day, the gym was gone, someone had finish the job I started. Once the gym is down, it will be hanging around level 4-6 for quite a while. Nowadays I usually get 7-8 in a gym daily to collect the coins.
Any working radar or scanners nowadays? Saw a growlite that is nearby yesterday, but couldnt find him.

Will all the candies and hatches, after I do a few more evolutions I will have 139 out of the 141 Pokemon I can get in New Zealand (and am 14 candy away from being able to evolve a Grimmer but the one I have is very weak).
Also finally got my first wild Dragonite (a few hours after securing all the candy needed by walking a Dratini)

Apparently any pokemon is fair game so you literally have to catch them all for a chance to find one.

So you can catch ditto using the device. Good to know. With the amount I catch on a daily basis using the device, I'm sure I'm bound to get one. Wife caught a high level one yesterday while we were out. Sadly at that point my phone was dead haha.
The one failing with the device I find, is the inability to select a default ball.
Edit: bahahahahaha just caught a 178 ditto from a Magikarp coming over the harbour bridge

I nabbed a 238 one using the Plus device on the way home. You never know, you may pick up a higher level one eventually

Haven't logged on since Halloween. Is there any trusty tracking apps for iOS?
We're leaving for Japan tonight, and may try catching a Farfetch'd if he isn't going to be too much trouble.

Pokémon tracking within the app has actually been improved.
It will now tell you that pokemon are near certain pokestops and will give you directions to said pokestop.
Doesn't help if you want to know whether to go across the city for a particular pokemon, but it's been quite good.

That's pretty cool. I won't be running around the city to hunt for them, but if they're reasonably close by (2-3 blocks) I might go for it. I was also hoping to use a third party app as most are less of a drain on battery. :)

Hatched a Magby from a 10km egg today. So seems the new pokemon are slowly appearing

No one is spending money, hence the new pokemon from eggs, to encourage people to pay to buy more incubators.
