View Full Version : Best pens for autographs on Transformers boxes?

Hi guys,

I'm headed to cybertroncon on Friday and REALLY hoping to get Peter Cullen to autograph my MP Ironhide box if I have the chance to meet him.

Can anyone suggest which pens/colours are the best (and will last) for this kind of thing? I'm thinking a silver felt tip pen (since the MP box is black) but I have no idea so would love to hear others expert opinions/brand recommendations.

Alternatively I'm undecided whether to try and get one of my MP Optimus trailers signed or to get him to sign my Sealed Mint in Box 2002 New Year Special Prime...

Would you use a different pen for these? I see suggestions of a black or blue sharpie online but nothing specific to Transformers plastic/boxes...
If I get the 2002 box signed do I get him to sign on the cardboard or plastic window?

Any and all advice appreciated.

A silver/gold sharpie or similar permanent marker I think is best. Avoid the paint/powdery pens with the shakey ball inside. They take longer to dry and risk getting smudged. A learned from experience when I had Carrie Fisher sign a photo at Supanova - my silver paint pen didn't really stick and I got some smudging.

Yup a quick drying permanent marker is the way to go. Color might depend on where you're thinking to have it signed. Very nice box for the NY 2002 edition and if you're looking to have the plastic window signed then maybe a black or dark blue marker is better as the most prominent place to sign on the window will be the cab/mouse pad area which are both silver/light gray so a darker marker might work better here.

Hehe, true but if you bring your own then you can also encase the pen! Touched by Peter Cullen!!! :p

My worry is this event is in China and whilst efficient seemingly quite disorganised from my current communications with the organisers so I want to cover all my bases.
As I want an MP box signed (which is black) I don't think they'll cover that scenario. I want to be prepared.

For the NY 2002 box I was thinking of that same area on the plastic window as the spot to sign but not sure if the pen will eat into the plastic over time and thus whether it would be better to sign over Optimus' torso on the cardboard instead?

I never thought about framing the pen too! LOL ... NAH!
I'll just be happy with an autograph and photo with the guy and the chance to say "thank you" (assuming we are able to meet him!). ;)

Thanks for the great recommendations so far guys. Please keep 'em coming.

I take my Zig painty silver pen to cons to get prints and boxes signed. Hasn't let me down so far.

There have been a few times when Transformers has made references to this. In #1 of Transformers Armada, in this panel (http://www.bwtf.com/comicbook-images/dreamwave/armada1/prime.gif), the text that keeps repeating itself on the monitor behind him are, "All Your Base Are Belong to Us," and "If you can read this you are obsessed." ;) The scan isn't clear enough, but if you take out your copy of #1 and have a close look you can just make it out. :D In Transformers Rescue Bots there's a virtual character called CAT (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/CAT) who also says, "All Your Base Are Belong to Us."

Well... after all my research and purchasing it ended up not being necessary.

Peter was only allowed to use the pens he had on his table - which thankfully were the same as the ones I had purchased so fingers crossed they'll last a lifetime or two! He had Gold, Silver, Black and Blue sitting there all ready to go. :)

It's probably faster that way rather than mucking around with different people's pens, especially when someone's pen doesn't work and it ends up holding up the queue. :o Now that I think about it, every autograph I've ever gotten was signed by the autographer's pen. Never had to bring my own.
