Sharkticon Gnaw Army Build?

Hey Guys,

I am sure most will agree that a significant highlight of SDCC 2016 was the reveal of TR Legends Gnaw. On that note I am interested to see how many people consider army building the little guy.

I am hoping to use the information gathered to see if any common suppliers such as P.C. could do a special case order with solely that character.

Here's a problem with army build figures... do you buy every toy that you see, or do you buy one from different stores so that you leave some behind for others? Or maybe buy one first and wait a few weeks/months and buy up remaining stock (thus giving others ample time to get theirs).

I'm not into army building (at least not with duplicates), so I'm happy to get just one, but I hope that it's not gonna be a pain in the asteroid to find because others have bought multiples for themselves. I hope this doesn't become like Generations Scourge all over again. :rolleyes:

A gracious attitude to be sure but in this case my idea is to contact some online suppliers to see if they can potentially organise with Hasbro if a case of Gnaws only could be supplied. Much like what happened a few years ago with DOTM Que or more recently with Walgreens exclusive TR Brainstorm. That way no-one misses out :)

I went polar opposite with my Vehicon squad, I wanted them all identical so they would look more menacing lined up, bad example photo follows :)

Nowadays, three figures is enough to satisfy any of my army building urges. Any more and I imagine I wouldn't care about how many were left on the shelf after I pick it clean.

With that mindset I would just order a regular case and offload any extras at cost. No reason not to spread the savings around.

I did the same with every version of the deluxe Vehicon mould, PRID Vehicon, AM Vehicon, Jet Vehicon, Jet Vehicon General, TAV Ground Vehicon General and the Botcon Pounce/Wingspan set.

I may be tempted to do the same with Gnaw, every version of the mould.

I had planned to do something similar though I plan to modify two of my Sharkticons to reflect the scene from the original film when one Sharkticon tore the face off another accidentally as well as when another Sharkticon had his teeth smashed out.

I only just saw this poll now, I tend to get one of something to start. and then depending on how keen I am on a particular mould or character I will buy some multiples later down the line, especially if they go on clearance towards the end of a line.

I did the same thing as Goki with the Prime Vehicons, though I have a couple double ups of the RID version due to finding it cheap. I also got hold of the Japan colour version of the FE Vehicon.

I have several of the Prime Insecticons and a couple of the WFC insecticons. I'd like a Japanese release of the WFC insecticon but it's too expensive to justify picking up as a repaint.

I have a Japanese Scourge and a couple Hasbro Scourges and I'll likely repeat that process with the new Titan Wars line.

I put down 3 in the poll it's dependant on the size of the group discount really.

It looks like Hasbro have gone with the colouring of the original G1 Gnaw toy for the new Legends fig as opposed to cartoon accuracy.

Considering Takara have recently opted to make their MP / TR line cartoon accurate I wouldn't be surprised if the inevitable Takara Gnaw we receive will sport movie accurate colouring.

I haven't found any Gnaws in retail stores here in Townsville. I bought one through Robotkingdom.com but they had a limit of 1! Has anyone bought any off ebay from China? I was wondering if this was a good option to get a few at a reasonable price, ~$15/$16 seems to be the average.

I did this! Although I'm less of a fan of strict "rules" when it comes to things like this, I figured I only need one, but if I could get three I would.

So I got the last one at Hornsby TRU when they were first spotted.

If I've commuted half way around Sydney from shopping mall to shopping mall & found 3 that I'm after, I'm not going to buy 2 and leave 1 behind, in the hopes that some other unfortunate sod who has also been galavanting around town will find it.

That's what networking is for, and I can proudly say that OTCA does this very well.

It's a simple numbers game. If a store only gets 1 box of Legends in (3 x Gnaw) and I buy 2 for myself and one for you because you can't find one, the rest of the fans are still going to miss out.
That store then won't get anymore in until the inventory system triggers an order (usually when there are only 3 units of a particular keycode left in stock) so you're left driving from store to store looking for a little plastic shark.

Are you in the right store at the right time? Cool, buy them all for you and your friends or buy what you need & leave what you don't. There are so many of options out there for acquiring toys in 2017, it's impossible for people to miss out.

I personally don't mind if one person buys multiple toys to help out other fans as they're not buying all of those toys for themselves. Fair point about the greater variety of options for fans today. :) It sure beats driving from suburb to suburb (to suburb to suburb to suburb) looking for elusive toys only to go home empty handed.

I personally never found the Ultra Transmetal 2 toys in any store in 1999, and it wasn't from lack of trying. :( I did hear people saying they'd spotted them, but I could never find them.

Its one thing to desire the above to beat out scalpers who buy up and resell for profits, but we're drawing a very long bow when asking someone to buy less of something they want for the potential gain of others.
If I really want to buy 3, or 10 or 20 of anything its my right as a consumer to spend my hard earned dosh however I please. If I bought less that my desired amount "for the benefit of others" I may never see another one again because they've all been gobbled up.

As Sinner's twin implied, there are many options abounds. If you want something that badly, pre-order it. I got 3 gnaws from thelittletoycompany to save on runnning around fruitlessly.

Edit: I should add, I'll probably get one or two Takara Gnaws when they do eventually release the mold.

I suppose it depends on whether or not you side with utilitarianism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianism) (the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few) or deontology (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deontological_ethics) (gotta look after yourself first before looking out for others). Gnaw was harder to find back in mid-February when I made the last post on this thread. But you guys are right, since then Gnaw has become as common as hens' beaks - at least in Sydney and presumably in your areas too. But this may not be the case in all parts of Australia such as in Adelaide where Sofaman's from (or at least around his local stores). :o

I think that making Army Builder style figures as Legend Class toys is a better idea than Deluxe Class, as smaller/cheaper toys are always manufactured in larger numbers thus the overall stock of these toys isn't being depleted as badly as with Deluxe Class army builders like Generations Scourge, TFPRiD Deluxe Vehicon etc. We did have a Legends CW Wreck Gar which lasted longer in stores than Deluxe Generations Wreck Gar. So in reflection I think that it was a good move for Hasbro to release Gnaw at this price point and hopefully future Army Builders will follow the same pattern. Maybe a Legends Class Scourge/Sweep.

I wont even get into Takara prices for army building.

Anyway TL;DR I'd have at least nine, for the right price

I'm beginning to find these shelfwarming in stores now with little or no Kickbacks and Bumblebees... and the revision for wave 4 has Gnaw in it as well (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HSB7771D11)... probably for the small percentage of collectors and customers who were wanting to buy more than one.
I understand Bumblebee being snapped up faster than Gnaw, but what is the deal with Kickback being more popular as well, when both Gnaw and Kickback are robotic animals that need an 80s fan to understand or appreciate what they're alt-modes are meant to be.
