Is it too much to hope they'll also make a body for the Megaligator head?

Too bad it will sell out fast (I believe it says it is yet to be up for pre-order)... which will mean it will fetch a hefty price on the secondary market. :(

Eh... it's a nice redeco but the concept doesn't interest me. Convobat was never a Headmaster nor a mechanical bat. Pass for me.

I don't think it's ever been up for preorder as there's no arrival date or price (compare that with sold out encore megs Who has a price) (http://www.e-hobby.co.jp/shopdetail/002014000005/002/014/X/page1/order/) and I reckon they have just put the page up as a place holder for now.

Normally they have an ordering period that is open for pretty much as many orders as needed, then we all wait while they produce it. Those who preordered are guaranteed, while leftovers go back on the website.

So, calm your socks. When it's open you'll probably have time to get in there.

It's also not the right colour - Convobat was red. But none of that changes the fact that this is an awesome homage, and that there's nothing wrong with doing something new and interesting. Honestly, it's worth it for the Apeface redeco alone.

The original Convobat was blue (exact same colours as Hasbro/Kenner's Bat Primal). The CD ROM exclusive version was red and white. I have both versions (plus the Hasbro/Kenner version). :)

It's understandable. Basically in Japan Optimus Primal and BW Megatron were never a bat and croc - only Optimus Prime and G1 Megatron were under the new names of Convobat and Megalligator. But from a Western toy POV the standard Convobat is Basic Optimus Primal and the standard Megalligator is Basic Megatron because the toys are completely identical. But because the CD ROM versions are different and were exclusive to Japan, they're more easily identifiable as being G1 Optimus Prime and Megatron in beast forms.

Even I see them this way because it's just easier! And it's because of the order in which I bought the toys...
* Bought standard Convobat vs Megalligator first; opened them.
* Then I bought CD ROM Convobat vs Megalligator. Opened them, then bought another set to keep sealed (still sealed to this day).
* I then received Optimus Primal vs Megatron as a gift. Because the toys are identical to my standard Convobat vs Megalligator, I decided to keep this set sealed (still sealed to this day).
So I've just repurposed my standard Convobat vs Megalligator as Optimus Primal and Megatron because I don't see the point in opening the Hasbro set when the toys are the same. And also in doing so, it makes the standard and CD ROM versions into separate characters rather than just being variants of the same characters (hence the toys have become more meaningful to me).

According to TFwiki (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Convobat), eHobby Convobat isn't the original (who would be G1 Optimus Prime), but rather a clone of Optimus Prime created by Straxus, and Megalligator is also another Straxus experiment. So this either establishes eHobby Convobat as a separate character from BW Convobat, or arguably retcons BW Convobat and Megalligator as clones who survived the Great War and were reformatted as a Maximal and Predacon. Although apparently eHobby Convobat and Megalligator are friends... but considering that BW occurs 300 years after the end of the Autobot-Decepticon War, it's not inconceivable that the two of them may have become enemies by that time. Anyway, the wiki is treating them as separate characters which I think makes more sense until such time that we receive more explicit evidence that there's a retcon.

GoktimusPrime
12th August 2016, 07:12 PM
Perhaps they consider the repaint to be too similar to the existing Skullcruncher toy to be commercially viable. Because Skullcruncher is already half green as it is, you'd just need to replace the white and pink^fuchsia with more greens. It would arguably be more dull. And honestly, it shouldn't be that hard to just repaint it yourself as it's basically half done for you. :o <shrugs> Maybe if Convobat proves popular enough they'll do Megalligator later. Then maybe the two of them in their CD ROM colours.

13th August 2016, 12:04 PM
Now that the Ehobby page (http://www.e-hobby.co.jp/shopdetail/000000002984/) has been updated...
Release month - December
Price - 5000yen (about AU$65)
Preorders begin - September 5th

Preorders up at HLJ (http://hlj.com/product/TKTE-0044-TF) -- 7,410 yen (~ AU$95).

Damn... it's good that HLJ have started selling Ehobby exclusives recently as another backup option for non-Japanese residents, but their prices suggest that they aren't getting any deals from Ehobby... being little more than a secondhand re-seller. (it's hard to spend that much on what is just a Deluxe toy and Titanmaster)
The Ehobby price is 5000 yen (about AU$67 at most payment exchange rates), while the HLJ price is 7800 yen (about AU$104 at payment rates)... with an unusually small preorder discount, of just AU$5.
Even RK has a slightly cheaper price, by just a few dollars (about AU$95), and they are in HK.

PC must have some good sources to be able to resell at just AU$75, just $8 more than buying from Ehobby, which has to include getting them sent to Australia and still make a profit.

GoktimusPrime
13th August 2016, 02:02 PM
Even 5000JPY is pretty expensive for a Deluxe, even with the additional Titan Master. 4000JPY seems like a more reasonable price, and eHobby prices usually match the same RRP for the base mould; e.g. TFC Autobot Perceptor was 3800JPY whereas eHobby Magnificus was 4800JPY (so an extra 1000JPY for the additional Gamede Microman figure). I would've been more tempted to pick this figure up if it were cheaper, but 5000JPY/AU$65 seems too expensive for a toy like this.

I agree that PC's price is a good one though. You'd pay about the same price if you ordered directly from eHobby plus international shipping.

Fear grips the colony of Eukaris as fiery debris from a stricken ship rains down on the planet. In swift response, the ruling Council decide upon a proactive approach to ascertain any potential threat to their world -- the Space Bridge will be extracted from the slumbering Metrotitan, Chela, to re-establish contact with Cybertron.

Megatron demands a show of force to dissuade any enemies, new or old, but Primal suggests they begin by extending a hand of friendship -- after so long, the fires from the War of the Primes would surely have burnt out.

Meanwhile, in the shadows, a secretive trio watch on as their plan comes together -- the Space Bridge will soon be within reach of their army of Insectoid Drones. With the fate of not only Eukaris but of every world connected by a Space Bridge at stake, who can stop the Tripredacus?

Find out in the one-shot issue: TRANSFORMERS: CHRONICLES - EUKARIS (http://rh1n0x.deviantart.com/art/TRANSFORMERS-CHRONICLES-EUKARIS-619210112)

Slotting into IDW's comic book universe, the Eukaris story was written as a celebration of the Beast Wars 20th Anniversary. It revolves around the characters of Optimus Primal and Megatron in bodies inspired by the Titans Return toys of Mindwipe and Skullcruncher, but little did I know that E-Hobby would go ahead and produce them!

I think one of the tricky things with translating is considering the literal meaning of the text vs what would best convey the intention of the text to the audience. Things can get lost in translation if they're being translated too literally, but also if they're being translated too vaguely... so yeah, it can be tricky. In any case, here is my translation of the comic. I've left the Japanese text there if any other Japanese speakers want to directly examine my translation with the original text, and I've included translation notes below.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/Titans%20Return/ehobbymegalligatorcomic_EN_zpslydbbe6x.jpg
* 「そこまでだ」; literally means, "Until there." "Stop there" and "That's enough" are also good translations for this.
* 「貴様は完全に包囲されている」; "You are completely (being) surrounded." - I've added the "son of a glitch" bit there because while 貴様 translates as "you," this is a derogatory second person pronoun, which we don't have in English. In English we add derogatory terms after the second person pronoun, like "son of a glitch." So I've added this bit here to evoke the insulting nature of the pronoun which doesn't directly translate into English. Fun fact: 貴様 used be an honorific title in old Japanese. :)
* 「説走」; This can mean to flee or escape, but in a military sense it can mean to desert. Judging from what we're seeing here, Megalligator appears to be deserting his own ranks. Especially if this Megalligator and Convobat are creations of Straxus. So I've opted with using, "leave us" over 'run away.' I'm not sure how that second translator managed to interpret it as "infiltrate" though.
* 「バカなことを考えたな」; Literally, "You thought something stupid, didn't you?" - akin to the feeling of, "That was a stupid idea." I've translated this as, "How stupid of you to think that..." -- I'm not sure how the other two translators managed to mistranslate it the way they did though.
* 「おれをその名で呼ぶな」; Sanchimaru's translation is accurate. I suspect that thebobkat added the "ever" part to make it sound more authoritative or commanding. I've kept it shorter to make it sound more rough, as he is using a lot of vulgar vernacular terms like the first person pronoun オレ (me/my) as well as the slang abbreviation な (do not).
* 「メガリゲーター」; "Megalligator." No idea how thebobkat translated it as "Megagator," because that would be メガゲーター
* 「エイプ×アームズ」; I don't know if there's an official way to read the × in this name, but this is × as in by, times or multiplied by. It's not an x. See how they look different when placed side by side: x×. Or if you used it in algebra it might look like y=5x×2. So I've got for "by."
* 「バカな・・・」; literally, "Stupid," but contextually it means that the situation is unbelievably ridiculous. thebobkat's translation of "it can't be" works too, but I would question the, "No, wait..." bit that he's added in as there's nothing in the original text that I can see that would even imply this. The "It can't be" part already shows that he's balking, so adding the "No, wait" part seems unnecessary. I disagree with Sanchimaru's translation of, "What a fool," though.

I thought the original translation was a bit shonky too.

I think it a better version for 来い would probably be "Bring it!!!" Or duke Nukem "Come Get Some":D, especially since he's being a bit crude about it all.

I might cancel my preorder for Covobat. He doesn't fit with want I want to do with my collection right now which is recreate the full G1 cartoon cast with Generations and Masterpiece. I know he technically is G1 since the bat version of Optimus Primal's toy bio says he is the same Optimus from G1, but I'm not sure that can justify it.

Don't forget to produce your passport when purchasing at Mandarake (and a lot of other department stores) to get duty-free prices. ;)
If you or anyone else happens to be in Osaka and you happen to speak Japanese or be with a friend who can speak Japanese, try Hero Gangu and haggle with the management. You can score an additional discount on top of tax-exemption with the presentation of your passport - yeah, they actually stack discounts there. :D Do not try this anywhere else though, as haggling is generally considered offensive in Japan.

Listings change all the time, right now shibuya and complex have him.

If you wish to update your search, head to the website, switch the search to english if necessary and throw in "TF / Legends " in the search bar, this will bring up ALL tf legends toys, find deadlock and once you found a page of him it'll show other listings and their prices at whatever store there is.

The shibuya is the cheapest at 5,500yen followed by complex at 6,000yen ;)
