Maketoys take on Megatron

The choosenprime have good pics and is out on pre order.
So who wants this?

He looks a little chunky for my liking, like Megatron on steroids.
I'll stick with my Appolyon until TT come up with something better (yeah right)

Anyone seen the dx9 version? Ben's collectable has a video review on him already, minus the back pack and lack of waist swivel he looks pretty good. But still not enough for me to replace my Apollyon.
This maketoys version looks just as good as the dx9 version but they r adding their own twist to the g1 aesthetic much like their gundog, in which I'm not the biggest fan of.

They all look good overall, but Despotron's proportions remind me of the Revoltech Megatron which isn't as G1 cartoon looking to my eye. From the video review, Mightron looks very solid and way less intimidating to transform than Apollyon. From the waist up he looks good, but the legs need more curvature. Apollyon still looks the best to me even if he's a little stumpy.
They're all tiny issues, so by the time Takara's rolls around i'm sure it'll be the best, and my Apollyon won't serve much purpose then... so another 2 doppelgangers isn't exactly money well spent for me!

I don't have Apollyon so am seriously looking at DX9 Mightron or Despotron. Both look good but leaning towards Despotron as it doesn't have ugly back kibble but is bordering on looking more like something from Generations than G1 MP. Decisions decisions

Is weird the dx9 doesn't appeal to me one bit. I can get an Apollyon but I think this one feels better posing ability. Yes I think is a bit beefed up but not in a bad way. Not sure I should pre order now or wait on colour test shot.

I wasn't just imagining the similarity to Revoltech Megatroni... they're even using the same poses! Headsculpt is miles better though!

First pic doesn't really look the same and imo maketoys win in the first, rovotech is kneeling whereas the maketoys is not.
Second one is an expected pose so I think is ok. Would be nice to see Apollyon doing the same?

Not here to smash any brand in particular.
We are here because we don't have the patience for TT to finally make one.

I think the head sculpt on the Maketoys one does it for me. I am considering buying one because I don't see TT ever making another gunformer and I would really like a Megatron for my MP collection.

Agree with spiderken. The face looks perfect to me. Make toys seems to know how to sculpt nice faces. It must be an art or something because face sculpts tend to vary wildly even among the top names.

It is that, I don't know why, some how Appolyon was missing some aspects and I don't have the feel for it. I don't normally jump on a toy but when I do I know some thing was done right to push me to want one.
With that, I be skipping on galvatron. I just am tired of waiting TT to make the remaining popular wants. And even if they do their qc has not been that great.
20 mp figures have past and no magatron or galvatron, it's depressing.

I've been thinking the opposite with head sculpt while the rest of him is very nice and clean except for the trigger guard sticking out the back. I just feel that the head looks a bit youthful like it was before the cybertronian war, before the anger started to build.
It wasn't until I saw him beside appolyon that I noticed just how much more battle hardened appolyon face looks in comparison to despotron.
In hand colour test shots might prove me wrong though.

BBTS seem to be the only online source for this guy that have stated the following:
"To comply with United States Toy & Imitation Gun Laws, a blaze orange safety tip will be added to the end of the gun barrel. Only the rounded tip of the plug will be visible; the shaft of the plug will be inserted into the barrel and permanently attached with adhesive. The adhesive will not be applied to the face of the barrel. Please do not attempt to remove the permanently installed barrel plug as it will damage your figure.
This modification requires that all boxes will be opened, and the contents removed for modification. Factory tape seals on the package and the clamshell will be cut and resealed; and the plastic clamshell itself may be cut to make room for the gun barrel after the orange plug is applied.
Below we have included the actual law pertaining to imitation firearms. Please remember that our solution to remain compliant with the US Toy & Imitation Gun law is the only legal way for us to be able to offer this item to our customers........."
Anyone happen to know what Australian Customs stand is going to be on this toy? Will each state follow the same rules as they did with MP Megatron I wonder?
I am really interested in getting Despotron but not if it's going to be seized at customs and/or vandalized

Don't ask, you be opening can of worms and I will hate you for it for alerting them. And this is beside the fact wa is okay anyway is just extra red tape unnecessary.
Buy it and act blur if the customs do ask you. And said I thought is a toy robot .
As stated on fb is in robot form and will not show any gun mode on the box.
People who bought Apollyon did the same so hush hush and you get it. Ask questions and everybody gets nothing.
Several websites selling, pre orders close next week. Go to any maketoys rep distribution and order.
Stupid thing is you can buy a real gun in us for cheaper.lol
If you are afraid then don't buy. Is plain straight forward.
It doesn't fire anything so I am not bothered if they question me. I am ready to say I bought it for robot form
As for faces , multiple to choose from is not a one face thingy so no issues for me.

It depends on your State's laws, there's a good chance it could be seized by customs as it resembles a firearm. There's a very good chance it would be picked up if the toy is boxed in gun mode (hence showing on x-ray) rather than bot mode.
Back in the day, I had to fill this in to bring in MP-05 Megs :p

Well the proofs in the pudding: http://www.smh.com.au/national/toy-that-changes-into-replica-gun-seized-20070511-c65.html
Quite frankly if I hadn't of said anything, it's likely I could've snuck MP-05 back in. Megatron is boxed in bot mode (same with Apployon) and wouldn't have been suspicious on the x-ray scanners. But alll I did was tick the "firearms" box on the customs form on arrival, they pulled me aside and I showed them Megatron along with the approved permit. Even the customs guy was amused that I had to get a permit for poor old Megatron.
If I was picked up for a random suitcase search and not declared I had MP-05, then things would've been interesting. I have no desire to end up as another one of those Asian people you see on Border Security ;)
So basically I preferred to play it safe. Getting a permit cost me nothing but a bit of time.

Hey Trent, thanks for this (appreciate it) but I know of this thread already and understand what is required to own these types of toys. Was more wanting to know if this toy would follow the same guidelines for owning MP Megs. Clearly it would so it should of been obvious to me :o. At the end of the day customs will do what they will do and as long as people follow the rules for their state there shouldn't be any problems owning this toy I imagine...
My main question which has been overlooked was if anyone knew whether all online seller's of this toy are going to do what BBTS has stated on their website with the orange plug? I'd be pretty annoyed if I ordered this from a source that hasn't mentioned the plug but did it anyway...
Ralph Wiggum

Actually your question was what customs would do about the toy, hence our little spiel, not whether retailers would be putting the orange plug in. :)
If you want to minimise your chances of an orange plug, buy from a Japan or Hong Kong or Asia based retailer where there are no such requirement. I got my MP-05 direct from Singapore and he didn't have an orange plug. Off the top of my head, my Appolyon did have an orange plug but it wasn't attached with adhesive and I pulled mine out easily.

No, not that I know any who would bother for the amount of hassles. You just need to have the balls to buy one. You are probably afraid which is understandable however given that maketoys has made efforts not showing him in gun mode in any pics of their box and have excluded the silencer and extend stalk. It's probably going to pass right through.
You can pay someone in wa to buy it and send it to you otherwise .

Takara have been rumoured to have Megs on the verge of release since MP-10. He's anything but rushed.
Hmm the not straight barrel says otherwise and no colour means they did not work on it only recently. Rushed in terms of picking up a worked on project which was left collected with dust because they were trying their best not to release him.
Look I am not bashing it but it is an obvious attempt to cut sales of maketoys and dx9? Those rumours are poor imo as I think they are pressured to release Megatron because Japanese toy reviews of maketoys has given some thumbs up.
https://youtu.be/lZObO9xyMZs
Either way I am buying this and TT version since I have a spare mp-10 to line both of them up. I am trying not to be negative on anything so let's be nice.
From this review this is the very reason why dx9 was not my pick as it looks out of proportion. The maketoys may not be a masterpiece but I am going to give them the credit.
Imo if what you say is true that magatron is not rushed, then there is no need to leak anything. I say they felt the pressure by 3p work this excludes hoist and trailbreaker which are already done by three manufacturers now, I am not surprised if TT is prepared to leak further.
I used to be all official and not acknowledge 3p work but lately with "shutter glass" release I am questioning who is the Ko now?
And to be on track with topic, one reason I am still buying this piece is because his scope canon is bigger and longer which may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's certainly mine.
I like to see what TT has to offer for their Megatron as they are not known to be as agile or they seem to be picking the wrong screen in terms of colour matching in the most final moments.

Fans can and will argue till their blue on the face about which Megs is best, but I reckon they will all have something to offer. While I'm not sold on this guys looks the thing that really tempts me with this guy is the articulation, the poses I've seen him in have been phenomenal, and that's something I doubt the others will match.

I solely went for articulation and his scope being longer, I know TT one is short so I have best of both. The transformation is also cleverly done. Can't wait for it on hands.

Apparently once customs are aware of the product they be trained to look out for it. Especially TT version with stalk and silencer will give a red flag.
