It was always expected that there would be an anniversary series of toys for the Movie series in 2017, just as a marketing ploy to sell some old and new toys, but just three years after TakaraTomy had their first few Lost Age Advanced toys resemble an anniversary toyline, they are giving us another set of assorted toys from the four previous Movies (http://news.tfw2005.com/2016/10/07/takara-tomy-movie-10th-anniversary-reissue-series-announced-326181).

MB-01 Classic Optimus Prime – reissue of Age of Extinction Evasion Optimus Prime
MB-02 Bumblebee – reissue of Dark of the Moon Deluxe Bumblebee, who comes with “new” accessories
MB-03 Megatron – reissue of Revenge of the Fallen Voyager Megatron, in a new screen-accurate deco.
MB-04 Shockwave – reissue of Dark of the Moon Voyager Shockwave
MB-05 Ironhide – reissue of Hunt for the Decepticons Deluxe Ironhide
MB-06 Ratchet – reissue of Dark of the Moon Deluxe Ratchet, in the deco Ratchet used in the first two movies. Includes “new” gun accessories.
MB-07 Soundwave – reissue of Dark of the Moon Human Alliance Soundwave
MB-08 Starscream – reissue of Revenge of the Fallen Voyager Starscream
MB-09 Grimlock with Optimus Prime – reissue of Age of Extinction Voyager Grimlock with new Optimus Prime rider accessory
MB-10 Strafe with Bumblebee – reissue of Age of Extinction Deluxe Strage with new Bumblebee rider accessory
MB-11 Optimus Prime – reissue of Leader class Striker Optimus Prime, with accessories like the swords from the Dark of the Moon version of this figure and the gas tank guns from the Revenge of the Fallen Buster Optimus Prime

MB-01 to MB-08 look to be coming out in February, while the other three look like having a March release... which will lead into the usual April release of Movie toys.

Each toy looks to have premium paint decos, and some will come with new accessories, including a couple of mini-riders.

I think Hasbro will do something as well to cash in on the anniversary (like they do with the 1986 movie and the start of Gen1), but I would imagine they would only do one or two "Platinum Edition" sets or figures, instead of a whole range like TakaraTomy.

Leader Starscream would be nice

I like the paint jobs on Shockwave and Soundwave - Shockwave's indigo is more screen-accurate than the original toy's purple, and the dull grey plastic on Soundwave was the only bad part of the original release.

Looks like leader-class Optimus is the version of the figure from Jetwing Optimus, since it has the Buster gun fuel tanks and Striker Optimus didn't.

Sideswipe? Blackout? Jazz?

Leader Starscream would be nice

I wonder how TakaraTOMY is selecting the figures. Surely leader-class Starscream is the best version of the character.

The rotf Starscream shown has a few more joints than the starscream that has been released thus far. Hopefully this is a sign (and not just a placeholder) that they will finally release the proper version.

MB01 to MB-10 are now on ToysRUs Japan website (mirrored here (http://news.tfw2005.com/2016/10/21/transformers-movie-anniversary-grimlock-strafe-color-images-326622)), giving us our first look at 09 and 10 (Grimlock (http://www.toysrus.co.jp/s/dsg-559388300) & Strafe (http://www.toysrus.co.jp/s/dsg-559390500) with new rider figurines).
At the bottom of each listing there are links to the first eight Movie Anniversary figures, with images of all 11, and how they have been redecoed or have new accessories.

Really struggling not to go all-in here because all the decoes are absolutely gorgeous. I've always wanted that HA Soundwave and the RotF Prime deco appears to be using the APS Ultimate Prime with separate fingers and paint-job.

I wonder how much a kidney goes for nowadays?

I'm tempted by the HA soundwave, I'm trying to figure out if it has better paint than the original release.

I like the idea of the voyager Starscream with that paint job but I have the Masterpiece version from Japan with the same paint job.

I like the idea of the prime with the extra accessories and articulated fingers but I have the original prime jetfire two pack which I'm yet to open still.

otherwise I think I can leave the rest. just none of it fits in the budget at the moment.

Regarding HA soundwave, I believe he was a relatively limited release and unpainted

IIRC there was mold degradation on the Leader Prime. The Ultimate APS set that was released earlier had issues on the feet if I remember correctly.

Hoping they have fixed it. The OCD in me has it already ordered to complete my collection. Would be great to know this is fixed.

That's the first I've read of that. If there is an issue with the feet on APS-01U, mine doesn't have it.

Yeah just did a quick Google and there are posts in regards to it. Back in 2015.

Still love mine regardless. Just hope they made new molds at least for this release.

The first four were released today in Japan.
I didn't even realise they were getting an early month release (most TFs toys are released at the end of the month), until I got the payment email from HLJ today.

See the last few posts in the HLJ topic (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=549578&postcount=190), as it is a technical issue on their end.

A youtube video was posted up two weeks ago, but it wasn't viewable in Australia, so here is an embedded copy on a Transformers fan page on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TransformersNeverDie/videos/1224844180929453/). It is a two minute video, showing off the toys with stop motion.

Mine arrived this week, of the first wave of eight toys from the beginning of February (they were from HLJ, so I waited until the rest of February
items were released at the end of the month).

A few photos for others to see, including comparisons with original Hasbro versions. (I didn't buy any of the original Japanese Movie toys, so can't
say what the differences are to them.)

Some might have some bits/kibble in the wrong spots, because these toys reminded me how much I don't enjoy most of the Movie toys, so I didn't
really care too much about making them accurate in robot mode... but I wanted these as a commemoration to the 10th anniversary of the Movie toyline.

The weird thing about this series is that there are 11 toys, and 8 of them are in the first wave, leaving just 3 toys for the second wave in March -
Voyager Grimlock with Optimus figurine, Deluxe Strafe with Bumblebee figurine, and Leader Striker Optimus.
I've pre-ordered all three toys, but I'm not too excited about the Leader Optimus, as it doesn't look noticeably different to previous versions, so is a
very expensive large toy just to complete the set of 11 toys. All of the others are noticeably different with their colours or accessories compared
to earlier versions... and even if they weren't, the smaller figures would be more tolerable with only minor differences.

So the first 8 figures that were released in February were...

MB-01 TF4 Voyager Optimus Prime
MB-02 TF3 Deluxe Bumblebee (new weapon in place of Mech weapon)
MB-03 TF2 Voyager Megatron
MB-04 TF3 Voyager Shockwave
MB-05 TF2 HFTD Deluxe Ironhide
MB-06 TF3 Deluxe Ratchet (new weapons in place of Mech weapon)
MB-07 TF3 Human Alliance Soundwave (minus Laserbeak and Mr Gould)
MB-08 TF2 Voyager Starscream

The eight toys in their boxes.

The back of the boxes.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d467.jpg

On the top, they have a screenshot of the character from one of the Movies... except Soundwave for some reason, showing one of the
spaceships from DOTM. They also weren't very consistent with taking images from the right movie that each toy originally came from, especially
Megatron, who had a different form/body to the screenshot on the box.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d468.jpg

The images on the sides of the boxes are identical.

Now for Robot modes.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d473.jpg

Comparisons to the original Hasbro versions.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d474.jpg

Ratchet with the brighter green version from TF3. The new one has four new accessories to replace the Mech weapon, with two being hand guns,
and two being missile pods (on the legs). An oddly large amount of weapons for a medic.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d475.jpg

Bumblebee - this photo is the odd one out, as all the others have the old one on the left and the new one on the right... I didn't notice it until posting this up.
Bumblebee has a new silver hand gun to replace the Mech weapon from TF3, because this version of Deluxe Bumblebee didn't have an arm cannon either.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d476.jpg

Ironhide - the least different of this lot, looking mostly identical in vehicle mode, and the legs are the parts most noticeably different in robot mode.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d477.jpg

Optimus - my favourite mould from TF4, and now another version for me to add to the collection (I already had 7 of the previous 8 versions of this
mould, and this one makes it eight out of nine).
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d478.jpg

Shockwave - blue instead of purple.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d479.jpg

Starscream is probably the one with less paint apps, thanks to all those "tattoos" on the TF2 toy. And was this the "best" version of Starscream?
Thinking about the other options, it probably looks most screen-accurate of the smaller moulds, but I think the TF3 Deluxe Starscream is more
playable and looks better as a toy.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d480.jpg

Soundwave... minus Laserbeak (and Mr Gould). Like Starscream, I think the Deluxe version was better, particularly when it comes to the "tiny legs"
syndrome that this toy and Starscream both suffer from.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d481.jpg

Megatron - a more metallic colouring makes it look less cheap than the Hasbro release, but really bad with the back-kibble. Again, is this the best
version, since the series is called "The Best"... probably not.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/d482.jpg

None really jump out as being exceptional to recommend getting... and only a few of them have significantly superior colours to warrant getting them.
I like the new colours of Shockwave and Megatron, and to a lesser extent, Soundwave and Starscream.

Great comparison photos griffin, thanks for posting these.

I think Optimus looks worth getting but the others maybe not so much compared to the originals. Although having the complete set of 11 is tempting.

Agreed that these probably aren't the "best" versions of the characters.

Thanks for posting!

Soundwave definitely benefited from the new paint job - the unpainted grey plastic was always the original toy's weak spot. It's a shame he doesn't come with Laserbeak or even another weapon. Shockwave, Megatron and Ratchet also look pretty good with their new paint jobs.

I like the more realistic paint deco, but I was surprised how 'plain' Starscream looks compared to the original. Even without the tattoos, I think that's largely due to the lack of painted detail on the torso.

Bumblebee is an oddity - although the mould is from Dark of the Moon, the stripe scheme on the Camaro is from the first two movies.

Hi also would have preferred the deluxe Soundwave. And Starscream could use some tats or some more colour on his chest as this mold is flat like a pancake (i still prefer the tftm voyager).

Those dinobots are looking surprisingly good. Optimus on the other hand looks less impressive due to paint changes and his upcoming Masterpiece'd version rumour. I paid my preorder for MB-11 today with reluctance but hopefully he impresses me inhand.

It's been almost a year since the second wave of Movie Best toys were released, and this week sees the third wave out in Japan, covering MB-12 to MB-15 (Jazz, Bonecrusher, Megatron, Lockdown).
