..... isn't this just a retool of movie 4 Prime?
..... yep, thought it looked familiar, this is just a retool of AoE First Edition/Leader class Optimus Prime.
Side by side comparison of "new" TF5 Optimus Prime and AoE OP:

Different paint (slightly) and no backpack in the render, but all in all the same toy. Not impressed guys.

Could be a "Preview line" toy...?

It doesn't look bad
Decent deco
But the AEO/TLK Optimus design just doesn't make for
A good transforming toy design

Doesn't look like a re-tool to me at all.
More like a proper re-visit on the AoE design a la RotF. Huge improvement overall on the Leader class figure in the AoE line for sure.

He looks closer in line with Armour Knight, which was a pretty sweet figure. Hopefully we we see is what we get and the backpack is minimised though I find that unlikely

I agree - I don't think there's a single part there that has been shared between the two figures.
I think the issue with the AoE figures is, like the first movie figures, they were taken from early concept drawings and produced in a shorter time frame, which meant the likeness was not as accurate and the engineering simpler.
By the second film, the designers knew which characters were being carried over and were able to spend longer time designing to the final character models, and we got the figures that we did.

True.
Probably also because the designers were hit with the "simplifying engineering" philosophy across the board (mainly the movies figures though). And it didn't help that the AoE designs were even more reality defying and unreasonable for toy engineering. It felt like they just plain gave up on some the figures...

In hand image from TFW2005, apparently it's voyager sized.

It still looks like a downsized copy of AoE Leader Prime to me honestly...

It's definitely a new mould which looks less kibbley than the AOE Primes, but also looks simpler and less interesting. Although not surprising if it's a smaller/cheaper Voyager. I'm just generally not a fan of the AoE/FK Optimus Prime design and I'm happy enough with the second Leader figure from AoE so I'll probably skip this.

I thought it should be more complicated by the looks of it.
You can't really beat the simplicity of a leader toy wearing the entire truck chassis on the back can you:D

The first AoE Leader Optimus Prime is very much a backpackformer, but the second AoE Leader Optimus Prime does a better job in distributing more of the chassis along the shoulders and hips, using the panels to form the robot's armour. It's still got a backpack but it's significantly smaller than the first Leader. The second Leader Class Prime is probably as good as they can make a toy based on the ridiculous screen design which has most of Optimus Prime's truck mode being magically swallowed up into his lower back.
This FK Optimus Prime seems to be not much better than the first Leader Optimus Prime with much of the chassis on the back, and the back of the cab in the truck mode looks a bit odd. But it's probably as good as they could make it at a Voyager size and price point (again, it's no worse than AoE Voyager Galvatron). Ultimately I think that many of the AoE (and likely FK) toys are being hindered by the current kibble-free screen designs which are counter intuitive to being adapted into toys. Short of giving them a Masterpiece budget which would make these toys too expensive for the primary demographic market.

Looking at the small size of the hip pins i doubt this is a voyager (and i know the shoulder pins are big looking). This looks quite similar to the 2nd (smaller) leader figure from DOTM which looks like a voyager compared to the larger leaders before it. This has some smarter design choices like how all wheels fold into the calves. It will have a backpack but it will be better than previous 'knight' Optimii.

Painted properly could be a very nice figure... I hated the FE and AOE leader Prime, but ended up getting both of them (the Armour Knight TT version I have both the normal and black version) so the right deco is what sells me on these movie toys!
Happy to wait and see, good to see they're trying to move the kibble around.

On the contrary, I think this FK Prime does a much better job at distributing the truck parts all over the body, without compromising the robot mode look much. The second AOE Leader Prime was surely better than that atrocious FE figure, but does nothing to change the chassis of the truck. The designer probably just gave up and left it there. The underside of the truck is now mostly behind the legs and much more compact backpack is formed from the truck cab. Huge improvement overall.
I look forward to seeing more of this mold.

These toys are often designed by the same team/people. Time may also play a key factor. FE may have had the shortest time frame because they wanted the toy out before the movie had hit cinemas, then perhaps the 2nd AoE Leader Prime had a bit more time because it was a later wave released. FK Leader Prime is coming out 3 years later, so they've had substantially more time to work on the design. I still don't know if the toy is that much better to warrant getting it. It's not like when I saw pics of ROTF Leader Optimus Prime and thought, "Damn! I want that!" Although the first movie Leader Prime is actually still a really nice toy. Although not as screen accurate, it does have a more fun and intuitive transformation and IMO was the best Optimus Prime toy ever made since 1995's Laser Optimus Prime.
The thing that disappoints me is that with the first 3 movies, each Leader Optimus Prime toy was an improvement over the last, but all the AOE Leader Optimus Primes feel like a step backwards. Also, my AoE Leader Primes were freebies. :p I'd happily accept a FK Optimus Prime for free, but not sure if I'd pay for one. ;)

Didn't Hasbro say something to the effect of there are not going to be a ton of movie toys this time and the will remain focused on TR, RID and RB? Personally I'm over movie toys so I really just want MP's and Generations.

I hope there is a better paint scheme on the final version.
I LOVE the Western Star truck in the movie but the toy in both modes seems somewhat underwhelming whereas the better versions of the Peterbilt are just stunning.
I hope they can refine him a bit to bring some oomph to the figure. Optimus deserves a nice figure regardless of how little screen time they end up giving him.
I understand the knight look makes it really hard to give him a true representation, although it does look like more effort has been made to try and accomplish this, but I just want as close a representation in BOTH modes as they can possibly give us.

This video (http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTgxMjI1MDA2OA) shared by TFW (http://news.tfw2005.com/2016/11/09/transformers-5-optimus-cgi-render-hand-voyager-figure-images-328466) shows a Chinese shopping site visiting Hasbro's Rhode Island headquarters. And John Warden officially reveals Optimus Prime's look in TLK.
Also revealed is the Voyager figure. The backpack looks very compact. Love it.

AoE Leader Optimus... sorry I mean the new "totally not a downsized AoE Leader by Kubianbao/KBB" LK Voyager Prime, in packaging.
First Edition is called "Premier Edition" now by the way.
Still looks like a downsized AoE Optimus to me. As The_Damned said "Nice at least it makes it easy for me to save money"

I always loved the Leader Primes from RoTF and DotM, specifically Buster and APS Primes. They are nice robots.

Wonder if they will release a platinum edition prime with trailer like they did fort AOE? If they did a version of that for the new movie, i would consider getting it, as it actually had alot of chrome and was the most movie accurate prime in AoE.

I see takara putting more silver on that face.
If this is what the movie voyagers are gonna look like what about leaders/deluxes?
Frankly I want TR to be on its last legs before these come, its hard enough with 3 concurrent lines to co-exist (rescue bots, rid2015 and generations)

Isn't it amazing how the lack of decals turns something that could look ok into something "meh".
When I first saw that in-box image I thought it was one of the many KO's out there...
I really hope Takara do more with him.
Do you think they'll do a better job with Bumblebee since they want to push his popularity?

I love the box design, but there's no way I'd buy it when I own a better one from AoE. Not even for a cool painted sword.

There's photos of a new leader class figure with rusty metal paintwork. Spoiler alert but the bio in the back is an interesting read.
