Was wondering where I could out these so thought I'd make a creations thread.

As a bit of a challenge to my Japanese Skills and as a way to have play with some picture editing and what not, I've been working on translating the Legends Comics I have. These are the ones I have done so far, in no particular order.

Lg18 Super Mode Starscream (http://tetstoys.blogspot.jp/2016/10/Legends18ComicTranslation.html)

LG25 Blurr (http://tetstoys.blogspot.jp/2016/09/legendsblurrHM.html)

More on the way as I get to them.

That's odd.
ItS blogger, but I think you can make up a name and link your blog to the name on the spot.

I seem to get the occasional anon comment popping up, so there must be some way to do it. I'll check it out and get back to ya

Oh and thanks. On a little side note, it's been rather fun discovering how to edit pictures this much :D

Yeah I think I went to leave comments on other of your blog posts before like your Blurr review but it never works. Odd because I've never had trouble leaving ones on Bladestorms.

Yeah I never really get comments on my Blog posts either

I could ahve sworn I posted this before, but apparently it didn't go through. Hrmm.

I made some changes to SSL on my blog, so that might have fixed the issue. If it doesn't, from the comment as selct profile box, you can enter a name and then a website link to that name.

Might be a bit more hassle, but since I'm a web programming noob, that's the best I can do.:o
For now anyway.

Those are awesome. Every time I buy one of these, I drool over the comic and wonder what the story must be about. I'd love to see these continue, especially for some of the new Legends headmaster and the Unite Warriors exclusives.

I am in awe of anyone who can read and write Japanese. It's a wonderful talent.

Glad you're enjoying them!

I must admit, after thinking about this first for the Headmaster guys, having a look over the earlier ones with their "one-off" crazy comics.... The move to the continuous HM style is much more engaging.

Updated with Gelshark's comic this time. Which I chose as I thought it was going to be easy, but provided me with some unique challenges. Glad to say the comic is better than the toy

Gelshark or Sky-byte's comic translation. (https://tetstoys.blogspot.jp/2016/11/legends-sky-byte-or-gelshark-comic.html)

Incidentally, I wouldn't mind doing them all eventually, but I have NO intention to buy all the toys myself :P, but if others could (preferably) scan the ones I'm missing and email me them, I can get to work on them. Scans at about 300 or higher dpi are preferred, so I can have a jolly old nerdy squiz at all the background action.

Currently I'm missing.

That was really quite fun, though I didn't understand why Ultra Magnus would have joined Megatron's army.

I really like the arrows, it makes it so much easier to follow for those who aren't familiar with manga.

Glad ypu liked it. Magnus and Chromia Joined Megatron because (in a previous comic -> Fort Max's) the Decepticons pulled a shifty one and bought out Metroplex (Autos comapny HQ). As city commander, Magnus wouldn't leave Metroplex and works for the deceps.

The Autobots are now using Fortress Maximus as their base and the Deceps have Metroplex.

Also glad my arrows idea helps. I found these things a bit hard to follow at the start, but I see they have a common pattern now of flow. However after talking to some less Japan-knowledgeable friends, I decided to add the arrows just for convenience. :D

Getting there... Getting there...

Currently still working on Blaster's comic ATM. The pack in comics take a bit off time to do, so as a quick test I gave one of the online ones on TT's webpage a crack.

Luckily the translation as such didn't take long at all.

Then the guy who helps me proof read them suggests I mirror the comics fir L-R reading. So I gave that a try. Worked pretty well and was a slight but not too major hassle. Definitely not going to do it on all of them though.

Enough blab. Here's the very first issue.

Not being an avid reader of translated manga, I was unaware. Could you enlighten me as to the reason?

Well leaving aside artistic intent, it can introduce introduce errors in continuity and logic(people driving on the wrong side of the road in the wrong side of the car, casts becoming majority lefties, characters referring to things in a direction opposite to what the page now shows that can become hard to localise away, characters wearing clothing in ways that would be a sign they're a ghost (https://wafuku.wordpress.com/2010/03/28/1362/), etc) there's the additional workload it introduces for dealing with things like signage(ends up mirrored and needs additional editing, you had to fix a few cases of that yourself by the look of things and I'm sure added more time to spent on the job than you'd like) and also mirrored art brings to light errors in art. It's actually quite an old well established technique for artists to view their art in a mirror or flipped over onto a lightbox or window to inspect it for less obvious problems that would be unnoticed otherwise because of the way our brains read images.
For the simpler vertically orientated black and white webcomics it's not going to be a big deal to fix several of those issues, though over time the amount of extra time you'll need to spend could add up quite a bit)but for the larger comics quite a few of the above will be an issue, which brings us to our last point, consistency. If you're not going to flip the large comics, don't flip the small ones, you shouldn't be leaving readers guessing which orientation they should be using for each comic.
Basically flipping manga adds a bunch of unnecessary headaches and timesinks you can avoid by keeping it simple and just leaving the art as is.

Personally I prefer the reversed, but its entirely a matter of preference.
One thing that is helpful (reversed or original) are little arrows to indicate the reading direction. If you're not a regular manga reader (or like me, just get directions easily confused) it can be hard to follow some of the Takara Legends ones.

But you're awesome just for doing the translation mate, and making it available. Do it any way you see fit :)

Corny as expected... but no worse than the Downtown Cerebros idea.

Is the "arrow version" supposed to be that small? I had trouble seeing most of the words. Can it be a little larger, like the copy of the original version that you posted up?
Even though I can read the version without the arrows (knowing the order with Japanese comics), most Westerners (like in America) may not, and might prefer the arrow version.

Nice work, I think.... it was just so confusing though. Maybe the second part will explain it better.
Or are they just trying so hard to keep fitting everything into the one story universe, that it is getting too difficult to keep track of it all or make sense without creating strange plot devices or mcguffins (a silver matrix? will we have a whole rainbow of them now?).

Nope, the second part just gets crazier. Personally I think they should have left the first page off completely. The threat the had Convoy changed into Star Convoy wasn't Unicron, and all of a sudden there is Unicron. Unless they are jamming dimensions together. This is possible because Star convoy is kind of already jumping between them in the first place (why though?) and In part two, Megs refers to "Future memories."

Or

More than one Convoy now has a silver Matrix?

Or different universal cataclysms (ooh, words!) are resulting in the same process happening?

It's kind of hard to tell WTF is going on What with pretender Bumblebee, Galvatron, those sphere transformers things, unicron drones from United, Sky lynx and stuff. So.... debate and theories highly welcome

Planets of colours... it reminds me of people who sort their toy shelves into colour groups (or unintentionally have the shelf in colour groups once they put all the same characters together and end up with a sea of yellow ;) ).
After seeing that Optimus toys have been done in pretty much every colour now (except brown I think), I guess it was only a matter of time that we'd have an official story that plays with the idea of a rainbow of different Optimus'.

I see that TFW must have mirrored an older copy, as Deadlock's planet is noted as Purple instead of Black.

I wonder why they didn't use Nemesis Prime or Black Optimus on planet black... as they have Shattered Glass Optimus, which is also evil.

Tetsuwan Convoy
26th May 2020, 06:08 PM
I did many times wonder what I got myself into while working on it. Perhaps the reason they avoided the Primes was because they could have just filled the place up with many Optimie. Although I notice that there is one on the red planet. It looks like the one that came out just before Metroplex was released.

The black planet also isn't necessarily evil I think. Well, that was the feeling I got from reading it. The Prime there seems quite determined to not let people abuse his time/blah/whatever powers.

I bet brown planet is being saved for a later comic. :D

When you have a bunch of warriors grouped by colour and you combine it with space pirates? I now headcanon this group as being like the Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (https://youtu.be/EDmNzziZGGw)!

I actually quite like the idea that these Seacons could take (steal) the forms of other combiner team members for specific missions etc.

That'll be in the chapter released with Unicron... where he eats all of those planets and then creates the brown "planet". ;) :p
That's the crapiest post today. Best to leave it to Trent.

When you have a bunch of warriors grouped by colour and you combine it with space pirates? I now headcanon this group as being like the Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (https://youtu.be/EDmNzziZGGw)!
The Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger was the ONLY super sentai I've watched from start to finish. Best rangers ever! I even bought TWO of the mobirates (there was a normal one and a legendary one) and a bunch of ranger keys. I still scour shops looking for ranger keys now!

That'll be in the chapter released with Unicron... where he eats all of those planets and then creates the brown "planet". ;) :p
Considering how much Japan loves poop (seriously, they do! there is an english text book with a poop character and its a massive hit!), your idea would probably ...
go down well.

That's the crapiest post today. Best to leave it to Trent.
Groan. I think we have a new winner. :D ;)

Until Tets does a translation, the next two parts of the God Neptune comic are on the TakaraTomyMall website in Japanese (as pdfs) and mirrored here as images (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/06/02/transformers-generation-selects-god-neptune-web-comic-manga-part-2-available-412175).

It says that there is still more to come with this current story.

It is good to see your work being shared on major fansites (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/11/09/transformers-generation-selects-abominus-web-comic-manga-part-2-english-translation-423785), with credit to the source.

Energon Enema?
Is that what it actually translated into, or is that something official from somewhere pre-existing?

It is an odd thing for the Battlemaster Rung toy to be its purpose... to be stuck up the butt of the Quintesson Judge toy. Not something I would have thought of if it was my job to write these toy comics.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised as well.
The Energon Enema was directly translated and is a thing from the Earthwars game it seems. An... interesting and inventive (I guess) usage.

No new updates, but I have taken the liberty of compiling the whole collection into a CBR if anyone is interested. I also updated a few of the earlier pages, now that some things have become clearer (which aids in consitency)

Feel free to download it and keep it for your heart's contentment. Quite surprised that I've worked on 80+ pages of these things now....

The next chapter has been added to the Abominus product page (https://takaratomymall.jp/shop/g/g4904810172086/)... mirrored here (https://news.tfw2005.com/2021/02/26/takaratomy-generations-select-special-web-manga-comic-final-part-01-429349) for when the product page disappears.

It's 16 pages, so if Tets does a translation, it might take a while.

It looks like they leave the comics upt longer than the product page, so some of the older ones can still be accessed directly.

This is final comic part one, so not final then from the Volcanicus page. (https://takaratomymall.jp/shop/g/g4904810172079/)

https://takaratomymall.jp/img/goods/4904810172079/comics_final.pdf

I've translated through about 7 pages so far but am yet to start editing.

While there is a lot of pages, there isn't so many effects going on, so editing the comic (the fun part) shouldn't take too long (fingers crossed).

So Energon enemas (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Energon_enema) are real, apparently, but are less ?recreational? and more ?medicinal?. My reading of the comic is that its a sudden infusion of energon, and that Rung is the power-source. That it should be inserted that way, as opposed to say a mini-con port, seems somewhat strange though. If I were a Cybertronian, I think I?d much prefer a mini-con partner?s power up.

Tetsuwan Convoy, you?re an angel just for doing the translations, but putting them together as a CBR file is going above and beyond in service to the Transfan community. Many thanks!

I didn't realise the next translated part was up, until I saw it today on TFW.
That's a lot of work... I really wish you could have everything published that you've translated, and get commission for your work. The story got very complicated and confusing some time ago, but a printed/published edition might help as it would be easier to flick back and forth on things that didn't make as much sense on their own in one chapter.

Yeah that would be nice. It turns out is was a lot of work. lol.
For the last one, I think I averaged an hour a page.... What have I been doing with my life.

As for publishing, yeah, I would like that too, but I don't know where to start, if you have any ideas, let me know. ha ha ha. Getting a bit of cash for this effort would be a lovely bonus.

I suspect there ill be another one when Abominus drops on this weekend as well.

I might start embedding a thumbnail or something to spice the thread up a bit :D

Finished the final chapter of this comic and quite enjoyed working on it, despite the initial terror of seeing 23 pages..... The total of 126 pages surprised for the whole Saga surpsied me at the end. I'm feeling pretty impressed with myself.

BTW... "Velocitron" in the first panel is missing a letter.

Ah, thanks, I'll fix it up soon.

Usually translating the bubbles is pretty quick, it's editing the effects planes that takes the most time for me. This one only has one section where I had to do that and so it was super easy.

A rainy weekend managed to give me the time to slap the 3rd part of the Velocitron Translation together.
Here you go:
https://tetstoys.blogspot.com/2023/06/velocitron-part-3-mangatranslation.html

Oddly, they avoid the word Velocitron and use Speedia despite Shadowstrip and Crasher being part of the Velocitron 500 group...

And Griff, I am working on the generations translation. It's taking me time to find out how things all fit together. But, I'm on it.

If anyone has any pages from the Generations book comics and can scan/ nice photo to me, I'll work on them too.

No rush.
I have all of the Generations books, if you think you will have the time to use them. They won't be flat scans again though, as I have to photograph the pages while the book is held open.
I think most of them are stand-alone stories, that don't go with any of the other stories... but I could be wrong, as I don't remember all of them.

re Crashers powers: I don't remember her abilities well, but I thought she often caused earthquakes. I dod some googling to find Crasher episodes and it seemed that she'd do some stomping and the ground would crack, so I guess that turned into earthquaking.
** Updating the info** It seems that she does have energy powers, but it still results in an earthquake effect in the end.

Unlike most Gobots, she rarely seems to use her hand-mounted blasters, instead using a trademark attack wherein she stamps her foot on the ground to create a powerful earthquake-style energy discharge that could track its victim in much the same manner as a heat-seeking missile

Earthquake "Style" in that zigzag animation that was common for earthquakes in cartoons of the time. It was never an actual earthquake though, just energy:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I4Crw0FkbU
Note she converts and drives forward from her stomp position, no earthquake/crack there.

However all good, Hastak own her, they can change and do what they want I suppose :)

Was anyone else disappointed to see that there was no Comic at the back of this year's Generations book?

They had some sample scans of some 1980s Japanese mini-comics in the 2023 Generations book, but I kinda miss having the (confusing) comic of random characters (including ones that don't have toys) doing something complicated, often with an unresolved cliffhanger or loose ends.
