Okay so I was not born here, they let me in at some point, so I don't know.

While I was over at TFW someone mentioned that G1 Overlord and other toys were marketed in Australia, however was the toy actually ever released here?

I ask as I am hunting one for my collection, and I have never heard this info before.

So if anyone can confirm or deny, please do! :)

The Hasbro version of Overlord (http://artfire2000.chuckliuphotography.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/G85C9073.jpg) was released here in 1991 but it was very rare. The 1988 Takara Overlord (http://www.seibertron.com/images/ebay/featured/masterforce-overlord.jpg) was never released here. Overlord in the Masterforce cartoon and manga series is based on the 1987 Takara version, but IDW comics Overlord is based on the 1991 Hasbro version of the character.

As said above, yes overlord was here, and identical to the Takara version.

Unlike Liokaiser (No partners, new weapons and only 2 members missing) and Brave Ceaser (Cars released, but no combiner parts)

Gok's message sounded like the Hasbro and Takara version are radically different and Krayt said identical. According to TFwiki the Hasbro version is only slightly different shade of purple than the Takara release. So apparently the only thing we can agree on is Overlord was released here. I regret not asking for him for Xmas.

The Hasbro one has a lighter shade of purple while Takara Overlord's purple is darker. Otherwise the two versions of the toy are identical. I was talking more about their personalities which are very different.

So, who got one locally? (And what was the price back in the day?)

Drooled over one in the local toy shop every time I went in for like a year.... But was never allowed to get it. Also didn't know the character, so I think the piggy bank went on lego. Have a nice boxed Japanese one nowdays

Never saw one in a shop but always kept an eye out for him as he was mentioned in all the Motorvator tech-specs as their enemy (and those toys I only ever saw once in a shop when on holiday in Canberra as a teenager). I never even knew what the Overlord toy looked like until the internet was invented :p

Same here. Although I did initially encounter Overlord in Masterforce from overseas relos who'd taped those awful StarTV dubs on VHS. :o But yeah, never actually saw any images of the toy until the interwebs, and never saw the toy IRL until I came across one in Melbourne's Box Hill Animezone store about 15 years ago. I still haven't seen a Hasbro Overlord IRL, only ever photos online and in my Transformers Generations Deluxe book.

I knew him from the picture on the back of the box of my Gripper. I don't recall actually seeing Overlord in shops though, or seeing the Motorvators around much at all either.

I remember when I started exploring TFs online and getting a better idea of what the Overlord toy was, and also discovering Gripper was part of a Japanese combiner and that explain those expandable arms!

I think my local Toyworld had one or two but I really didn't understand I should have been asking for that. I think that was the same year Classics came out so I just asked for characters from the G1 cartoon.

I would KILL for an Encore reissue of him. Such a shame Takara axed the Encore program. Haven't had one for years :(

Overlord and Black Zarak (without the GPS) would be great reissues.

But I'll have to settle for the upcoming Generations Overlord and hope when they get around to Titan Scorponok that a Black Zarak remould/repaint happens.

Yup. It's downright criminal they did Sky Lynx, Trypticon (got one on the way this week!) and Max, but no Omega, Scorponok or Overlord.

Which is why I am hunting a G1 Overlord, I don't care how long it takes, long as I get one in decent condition at a reasonable price, he will be mine!

When we wish for all these G1 reissues the thought always goes through my head, I hope they know where the mould is and it's in good condition.

We all know about the lost, damaged and destroyed moulds.

Shelfwarmed badly too. As did Sky Lynx and Metroflex.

^Excellent point. :) And let's not forget that mid to late G1 reissues don't necessarily sell as well as reissues of early G1 toys. Reissue God Ginrai was a terrible shelfwarmer.

Omega Supreme got an Encore reissue in 2008. :)

It did cool?

I had no idea, I've not seen it on eaby or anything, but Sky Lynx and Trippy Dionoman come up all the time.

Any idea what price the reissue G1 Omega Supreme went for in the reissue, and goes for now? I'd love to get one. I'm guessing silly prices. Cheapest just now on ebay was $350 AU not including postage.

I've only seen australian sellers with Platinum edition stuff, are you guys saying the japanese encore line was sold in Australia, or was it import only?

I've never had encore anything, so have no idea. I have a few G1 toys here and there, but I've never bought any of the "encore" line, just the euro Platinums stuff (like I just bought Trypticon this week).

I got my Omega reissue for 10,000yen on release (HLJ's early bird price)

Despite being a bit of a shelfwarmer, he can get pretty high these days. Ebay US sometimes has them a little cheaper that Ebay AU.

Another option is Yahoo Japan Auctions. Buying from YJA is a lot easier these days now that that they have a partnered deputy service. And the fees are quite reasonable I've found.

And of course, keep your eye out on the sell threads here and on Facebook. Just be patient and you will find one. They aren't all that rare.

The "Encore" line was released in Japan only. So was the TFC "Transformers Collection" bookstyle re-issues. They came in a white bookstyle box with Dreamwve artwork. And tear out pages full of stats, etc of the character (But Omega wasn't part of that release.)

I got my Reissue Omega from Amazon using gift vouchers I was given for free. From memory it was about US$100 in around 2008. Still have him MISB, didn't realise it fetches so much.

Encore Omega Supreme retailed for 10,000JPY, which was roughly AU$100, but the problem is that this toy was released around the time of the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. As a result the AUD took a major hit. If your online order was processed just before the GFC hit then you were fine, but if it processed just after the GFC then suddenly the cost of this toy (as well as Encore Metroplex) skyrocketed due to the loss of currency value over the exchange. :( The AUD was actually performing quite well from 2007 up to just before the GFC - I was actually overseas on our honeymoon when news broke out of the AUD rocketing up in value. Suddenly our honeymoon (and subsequent overseas shopping) got a whole lot cheaper! :D But the AUD took a tumble when the GFC hit.

I hadn't pre-ordered Encore Omega Supreme, but I did pre-order GADEP the eHobby exclusive Guardian Robot repaint, as well as Encore Metroplex. Both of these toys ended up costing me a pretty penny as the orders came through just after the GFC hit. :( I still found Encore Omega Supremes etc. shelfwarming in stores in Tokyo in 2012 - four years after the toys had been released. This would be the equivalent of finding a large Transformers Prime toy shelfwarming today. In my recent trip to Japan this year I didn't find any Encores (although the MP Autobot Cars are surprisingly cheap on the Japanese secondary market - I grabbed an MP G2 Lambor for just 5000JPY (AU$63) and I saw other MP cars selling at similar prices or less. Although current MP Cars are still expensive at full RRP, it's cheaper to buy them off the secondary market over there.

Right, that is what I thought.
I got confused and thought people were saying there was a reissue of Omega G1 that got released in australia, like Platinum trypticon, which I had never heard of somehow.
so to be clear he STILL has never been released in the platinum (western) line of reissues?

It might seem like pointless details, but platinum ones can be has so much cheaper than any of that ehobby and book whatever whatevers that sell for crazy prices (2nd hand) often with inferior plastics to the original toys (that sometimes can had for the same price, or often cheaper)

We did get Platinum Edition Omega Supreme (http://www.actiontoys.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/omegastitch.jpg) in Australia, but it's a redeco of Energon Omega Supreme, not a reissue of the G1 toy. Encore Omega Supreme was never released here.
