I almost bought a black Megatron a few months ago (it is still on my list to complete my TFs replica gun set), but this would make it a lot cheaper (if I could get it through customs).
I think there will be a lot of annoyed collectors who paid a fortune on limited edition Sunstorms (probably no more than 5000 made) and Black Megatrons (only 1000 made), to see a reissue of those limited edition toys.
I would have to think that there would be some difference between them, other than the packaging, so that collectors don't lose too much value in their 'rare' items.
I would have been more upset if I had bought that Black Megatron a few months ago, at the current price of about AU$280 (this reissue is listed at about AU$90).

I'm more concerned about the direction this is going. Black Megatron is on the really rare end of the limited edition scale, so it means TT could reissue any limited edition figure in the future (which I guess they already did with some of the 2001 ehobby Gen1 reissues that were also limited to 1000), just to make a sale. There aren't many limited edition figures that had smaller production runs than Black Megatron.

http://www.soundwavesoblivion.com/japanesereissues.html

I may just hold off on the last few limited edition recolours in case Ehobby reissue more of them (I just bought Fire Guts God Ginrai, and am still after Black Hot Rod, Black Megatron, Black Starscream - yes, black recolours aren't my favourite, but still want them eventually).

Already have Sunstorm, but I'm missing one of his stickers (it fell off). If anyone is interested in getting Sunstorm but have no intention of applying the stickers, please LMK and I'll be happy to buy the sticker sheet off you for a reasonable price. :)

Black Megatron does interest me though I must admit... hrmm... *rubs chin*

ordering of black megatron will be difficult for some states so probably cater to Sunstorm first an settle the Meg privately?

Definately interested in Sunstorm.
Definately not interested in Black G1 Megatron.

I would have been happier with a Classics mold Sunstorm, but then again thinking of what happened to Thundercracker, maybe not. I just hope they don't mess this one up as well as the molds might have had a good workout from th G1 Thundercracker and Skywarp Encores.

I will ask Overdrive when I email them tonight. I doubt it will be me doing a group order this time tho, depends on the numbers.

I am very interested in Sunstorm.

I am also interested in Black Megatron but he is not a 'must have' figure and I know how risky he would be to import.

I totally agree, there seems to have been some major mold deterioration with the 'Classics Seeker' mold. Its been too over used I think but I am sure that they must have more than one since Takara and Hasbro are producing figures of the mold simultaneously in their own markets. The Starscream mold however seems a bit more sturdy or they have a few of them since its been through lots and lots of reissues in the past 8 years.

I'm wondering, can we say with any certainty that Hasbro and Takara use different companies to manufacture? I always assumed it was the same place (would make sense), just that Takara might insist upon higher QC (in some cases!).

Wish they'd reissue Astrotrain in G1 colors, then we wont have to deal with $500-700 pricing in ebay for it.

A Perth group order for Sunstorm is more likely. Even though getting a Megatron through Perth Customs *seems* to be relatively safe, it might also depend on whether the parcel will land directly in Perth from the particular country of origin. Some countries don't have direct flight to Perth, and the parcel might land in Melbourne first. In the past a few of my parcels from Japan did land in Melbourne first and had to go through Customs there.

Customs regulations are federal. It doesn't matter which state you're in, Customs have a list of items which are contraband without a permit.

For those in NSW with a permit, it is possible to bring the item in - but if (federal) Customs hold the item, you need to demonstrate that you are legally entitled to posses the item. This requires presenting yourself to a site in Waterloo - by appointment.

For those in WA it might be a little trickier... how do you prove to Victorian customs that you're entitled to own one when there are no permits issued in WA... and you're not in Melbourne to collect it.

The Stepper Pulse refers to was on eBay Australia (in USD) about 2001. A seller in Melbourne got over $US900 for it. This was back when the exchange rate was hovering around 50c. Long before Stepper - or Jazz - was reissued.

The buyer would have had a few years to enjoy it before the reissue (and Ricochet) came along...

In an unrelated conversation with Overdrive, they asked if we were interested in Megs. I mentioned our laws.

So, it looks like Overdrive is more than happy to help, and after our last experience, I highly recommend them.

I'm not interested in either of these products, so won't be managing or even participating. PM me if you need Overdrive's details.

Rk has this up for pre-orders:

1) Encore Reissue Exclusive Black Megatron, US$79.9.
Link Here (http://www.robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php?action=details&CatType=Category&II=TFECRBLKMEGA)

2) Encore Reissue Exclusive Sunstorm, US$59.9.
Link Here (http://www.robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php?action=details&CatType=Category&II=TFECRSUNS)

Both Feb 2009 arrival.

Unsure as to what difference does Black Megs have with Encore 02, so I might pass on that, plus OZ customs probably won't let it through anyway. Sunstorm looks a bit too orange? Or is it usually that colour? I'm not sure cause I don't have any Sunstorm figures. :p But I'll still get it anyway...:D

Sunstorm is actually more orange than yellow.

These were taken with flash, so the colour should be accurate.

I think these are e-Hobby reissues (ie: reissues of an e-Hobby issue, which was a reissue in the first place)

GoktimusPrime
17th October 2008, 07:09 PM
Sunstorm wasn't originally a reissue. It was a repaint of reissue Thundercracker, but not an actual reissue since the character or toy never existed in the first place. A lot of other e-Hobby toys are reissues of Diaclone or Microman toys, rebadged as Transformers and given new identities and expanding the G1 universe. But toys like Sunstorm, Gadep etc. aren't reissues.

Black Megatron is a reissue of a Microman toy (MC12 GunRobo Black Type) though.

The permit allows for collecting replica firearms as part of a "MEGATRON TRANSFORMERS" collection. Which would mean the answer should be, "yes", although it hasn't been tested as such.

You're thinking of air travel safety, methinks. Howard went after the guns after Port Arthur, you're right about that bit.

It's to do with the tightening of replica gun laws early last year just before the release of MP-5.

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,21023502-1702,00.html

Two primary reasons:
1. Replicas being modified into actual working firearms. (Mainly airsoft type guns).
2. An increase in the use of replica pistols in hold-ups and causing intimidation.

Given that Black Megatron is the correct size and the actual color of a real Walther P-35 it could prove more difficult to obtain than Masterpiece MP-5 Megtron.

I believe it's actually slightly smaller - but it's pretty close. At a glance - and and at the business end of the barrel - you wouldn't notice the difference. The laws are designed to make sure that people don't end up in that situation.

GoktimusPrime
18th October 2008, 09:45 AM
Yeah, Australian Customs only really started blitzing Megatron toys from last year. It wasn't so much a change to legislation - after all, I remember the original 1984 Megatron toy being recalled from shelves as it was illegal back then too. But before last year it was relatively much easier to import Megatrons.
