News from TFW member Type-R about the Year of the Rooster Platinum edition from Hasbro. It's a reissue of The Hybrid Style G1 Optimus Prime. Pics in the TFW link below. Will try to load a few up once my photobucket stops having a fit...

Already have this one but it's a great little fig for those who are keen. Alt mode is pretty terrible but great little bot with tons of accessories.

I'd be interested as I was waiting for my Rooster year to come up. Probably keep it MISB.

Can't see much to distinguish it from being a special YOTR edition though...

Pretty much just the box. Shame the Autobot logo is just standard. Would have been better to have this Roosterised

I'm not sure having a c0ck logo would be appropriate or to everyone's taste. The previous year's logos were hideous imo.

Let me comment after I've finishing spanking the Year of the Monkey.

In all seriousness, I'm a little disappointed with the use of this small-scaled mould. Optimus Prime YotD, YotS, YotH, YotG were of decent size.

More in-hands (https://www.facebook.com/TransformersNeverDie/posts/1159212800825925), and interestingly it says:

Only available in 2016 Taipei Movie&Toys Convention. Limited quantities.

YOTM was also a chunky Munky.

I would have to disagree regarding the following on of a similar size. The Hybrid Style series was more limited in release so great for collectors here though it's yet to be seen if the price of this set exceeds the after market price of the originals when it gets to Aus.

Another $300 Myer special destined for the clearance bin. Yes, I know it's limited, but come on, surely I'm not the only one thinking that :p
nice figure though. I wouldn't mind one.

That is rather disappointing.
A bit of a letdown after years of blinged up or redecoed toys, with this one looking like it could be just a reissue in a new box.
I am happy that they have scaled back on the size being offered as a CNY toy, as most have been very expensive because of their size... but I'm not a big fan of this toy, particularly if it is the same as the previous release.

Pretty small. I didn't have any shots of it with Optimus, but I did take one of him next to animated activator Bumblebee (https://tetstoys.blogspot.jp/2010/09/from-vault-ths02-hybrid-style-convoy.html)

The Hybrid Style was a collaboration to celebrate Transformers soomethingth anniversary and Microman's somethingth anniversary as well. The idea was to apply Microman levels of articulation to Transformers.

Galaxy Convoy was about the same size. I have a comparison shot with him and the original toy (https://tetstoys.blogspot.jp/2011/06/ths01-galaxy-convoy.html)

Dude, you can say cock. It's not an offensive word in this context since you're using it for its proper meaning (synonym for rooster). Don't be so chicken. :p

I'm annually disappointed that they always go with Optimus Prime and never choose an alt mode that's relevant to the Lunar calendar's patron animal. :(

Of course, the big dilemma that we're facing with the upcoming New Year is that there is NO chicken Transformer. :( It's something that I've been wishing for for ages now, but alas HasTak have never sought to make one. :( But even another birdformer would've been preferable to a truck. Or at very least redeco the trailer with the logo of a poultry company (then it'd really be poultry in motion :p).

For year of the goat they used mp soundwave and laser optimus, their bio write up was hey were chosen based on their "year of the" personality attributes.

Problem is this is just a good excuse to stick to mostly optimus redeco's, the fact this one has NOTHING new (least on a glance) really hurts, if I see this at myers I'll wait for clearance as I like the mold, but it better be a good clearance.

If he was taller than Henkei Convoy I'd get him to replace Convoy, but he isn't so I'll pass on this.

Interesting that they've called it Year of the Rooster rather than Year of the Chicken.
The first Kanji for Year of the Chicken 酉年 (とりどし) is, AFAIK, synonymous with 鶏 (とり) which means "chicken" but can also mean "rooster" depending on context. I'd like to suggest that in English we might refer to this toy as "Year of the Chicken" (or Year of the Cock if you want to explicitly refer to a rooster), and thus abbreviate it as YotC.

The reason for this suggestion is so that we reserve the "YotR" acronym for the eventual Year of the Rabbit Transformer in 2023 (assuming that Hasbro are still making these Lunar New Year TFs, which they seem determined to do each year).

I can only imagine Hasbro being at the crossroads in releasing this toy. They would have toiled with the question, Why did the Rooster cross the road?

But that word bums me out. Although it does have a certain ring to it. I'll stop being so cheeky.

This has been found as a placeholder on the Canadian Walmart website, with three big official images of the set (mirrored here (http://news.tfw2005.com/2016/12/21/year-rooster-optimus-prime-official-images-330286)), which looks to confirm that it is unchanged from the original Japanese release... and since it hasn't been released by Hasbro before, it's most likely why they didn't see a need to alter it in any way, as it wouldn't be a redeco in the Hasbro market anyway.
This will probably show up here, but I will find out from Hasbro Australia.
