Saw this on tfw2005, of an ebay auction of Hasbro concept art from the 80s. It's a Gen1 Twintwist with a pretender shell drawn behind it. A proposed concept maybe, during the pretender era that never made it? We know that the pretender concept was wrapped up early, with some prototype shells on display at BotCon 94, but could using actual Gen1 toys in pretender shells (like a reissue concept) be a direction they were heading in the late 80s?

I think it is the same seller who has been listing Hasbro concept artwork on ebay for a number of years now, so should be legit. Judging by the price, it better be legit... US$1200!!!

Saw that earlier in the day. It must have been an attempt at re-releasing Topspin and Twin Twist as pretenders during 1988/9. They would have made very large or very wide (fat) Pretenders.

Umm... that looks like G1 Twin-Twist's box art imposed on a drawing of Waverider's shell. :/ How authentic is this? If it's legit, I'm surprised there was no mention of it in Transformers Generations which showed way more obscure abandoned concepts and prototypes than this. Like Rodimus Prime transforming into a credit card...

This was first posted about a month ago, and was more or less ignored because it was deemed fake.

But now apparently it seems it's legit, as a "prototype" of sorts showcasing what pretenders box art would look like or something.

So for the box prototype they used an image of a toy who's transformation was so basic all you did was flip the legs up over the body?

Wow. What an perfectly appropriate stand in for a first wave Pretender :p :D

See, this is the kind of collector item which confuses me.

None of the artwork which makes up the image seems particularly original - even the 'ghost' component is derivative. So maybe someone in Hasbro back in the 80s slapped it together. Could have been for a proposal, could have been to test the Pretender boxart 'look', could have just been for a joke. Maybe it was an intern who did it after hours for the hell of it. Who knows?

And now someone wants $1200 for it.

Or, y'know, you could pay $50 and commission someone with some Photoshop skills to do exactly the same thing with the boxart and Pretender shell of your choice.

Come to think of it, what would be some cool boxart to Pretenderise?

Ive never seen such artworks around. Is there anywhere on the net where similar items can be seen? They are sweet!

a Jumpstarter in a powerful pretender shell? hmmmm not a bad idea, very well! Enough bargaining remove your heads!

I would have loved to see a real pretender twintwist, he would have looked like one of those weird late 80s tfs, like Quickswitch or something
