The Wii (pronounced as the English pronoun we, IPA: /wiː/) is a home video game console released by Nintendo. A distinguishing feature of the console is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and detect movement in three dimensions. Another distinctive feature of the console is WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the Internet while in standby mode.[7]

As a seventh-generation console, the Wii primarily competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3. Nintendo states that its console targets a broader demographic than that of both.[8] The Financial Times reported that as of September 12, 2007, the Wii is the sales leader of its generation, based on sales figures from Enterbrain, NPD Group, and GfK.[9]

The Wii is Nintendo's fifth home console, the direct successor to the Nintendo GameCube, and able to play all official GameCube games. Nintendo first spoke of the console at the 2004 E3 press conference and later unveiled the system at the 2005 E3. Satoru Iwata revealed a prototype of the controller at the September 2005 Tokyo Game Show.[10] At E3 2006, the console won the first of several awards.[11] By December 8, 2006, it had completed its launch in four key markets.

I recently (http://au.gamespot.com/wii/index.html) bought myself a Nintendo Wii and have noticed that there are quite a few Wii owners here on the forums so I thought a general Wii thread was due.

So here's OTCA's Nintendo Wii MEGATHREAD!

Noticed Big W has a pretty awesome sale on Wii games.

Probably going to pick up Super Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy both at $59.98, also No More Heroes at $38.84 is extremely tempting.

Those are very cheap prices for great games. I highly reccomend Mario Galaxy and No More Heroes. Super Paper Mario is ok. But it's a little tepid and not a scratch on The Thousand Year Door on Gamecube. Even the N64 Paper Mario that is available on the Virtual Console is a good start.

Speaking of VC. Make sure to check out Megaman 9 and Lost Winds.

i though mario galaxy was fair meh. so repetitive. but hey thats just me :D
i would recomend smash bros. lots of replayability, but then again i never play my wii these days

To be honest I don't really like the Wii's, they are fun in a group kind of thing, like singstar or buzz etc, but when I'm by myself I'd much rather play PS2/3 or PC, even N64, but thats just me..

I thought Mario Galaxy was good at the start but yeah as Blackie said, gets pretty repetitive...

Super Smash Bros is a great game, loved it when I first played it on the N64, and love the Wii version nowadays

I was thinking of grabbing 2 Wii point cards.
They are usually 1000points for $15, so 4000 for $50 is a pretty good deal. Saves about 10 bucks.

i_amtrunks
19th October 2008, 01:41 PM
If you can, buy Wii points directly online, EB and JB sell the cards for $35 for 2000 points, whereas you can get 3000 for $45 online.

I loved Galaxy, it's a fun game thats gets slightly more difficult as the game progresses, and collecting those purple stars is a right royal pain.
For multiplayer you cant go past Brawl, MarioKart and Warioware.

I also recommend hunting down Excite Truck, that is one of my top 3 racing games, I'm forever going back and playing it again.

Those are some cheap games. The Wii in New Zealand is pushed over to the corner sadly in favour of Xbox 360 and PS3. Accessories and games are so over priced as well.

unlike the xbox, there is no subscription thing, ala xbox live.
all you need is a wireless network and a wii :D
if you want to buy games for the VC then you will need wii points, which can also get you some snazzy apps, such as a web browser etc

i think thats it...

Hehe. Especially Luigi's Purple Coins!

For multiplayer you cant go past Brawl, MarioKart and Warioware.
Don't forget to add Boom Blox, Wii Sports and Ghost Squad.

I also recommend hunting down Excite Truck, that is one of my top 3 racing games, I'm forever going back and playing it again.
Excite Truck is awesome. You spend more time in the air than on the ground. Especially when you throw in an SD card filled with your favorite tunes to race with.

Speaking of lesser known games. Try out:
- No More Heroes
- Battalion Wars 2
- Fire Emblem
- Metroid Prime: Corruption
- Zack & Wiki
- De Blob

And since this is a Transformer site can I recomend a couple of Gamecube games since they can be played on the Wii:

- Gotcha Force: full of robots and includes Transforming ones and Combiners. My favorite Gamecube game!
Video:http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=YQxQi7i9L0E
Transforming mechs at 1:55. Man I love this game so much!
Video 2: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Tlm-vJBRWq4&feature=related
Triple Changer at the start!

- DreamMix TV World Fighters: a Smash Bros clone featuring characters from Konami (Simon Belmont, Solid Snake), Hudson (Bomberman) and Takara (Optimus Prime, Megatron, Microman).

What do I need to purchase if I want to take my Wii online?

You do it through the WiiShop channel.
Wii Shop
-> Add Wii Points (Big button in the middle of the screen)
-> Add Wii Points with a Credit Card
-> Select the Amount of Wii Points you want to buy: 1000 ($15), 3000 ($45) or 5000 ($75)
-> Input Credit Card Details and follow the links

Be careful when hitting the "accept" and "yes" buttons, they switch around sometimes yo make sure your paying attention...

If you can, buy Wii points directly online, EB and JB sell the cards for $35 for 2000 points, whereas you can get 3000 for $45 online
That is what I usually do, just Big W has 2 cards for $50, so it works out to be 4000 for $50, so you save $20 for Wii Point Cards, or $10 from getting them from the Shop Channel

To be honest i haven't tried, i still have my gamecube setup and use and it's freeloader to play imports. I remember hearing the Wii freeloader eventually got locked out by system updates, but i'm not sure if they released an update to combat that... or i could be completely wrong :)

It wasn't released outside of Japan. I wouldn't bother trying to play import discs on the Wii. Let alone GC ones. Unless you go down "THAT" route to play them.

Better off getting a GC and the GC Freeloader to play GC imports on a PAL console. And yes 3.2E Update negated the Wii Freeloader.

I just had to post up DreamMix TV since it's got actual TF in it! It was also released for the PS2.

I've heard about this Wii Homebrew Twilight hack thing that lets you go region free with your Wii, from what I've gathered it's not altering or messing around with the Wii's firmware or anything like that, it's just a program of sorts that you run before popping in a game from another region, sort of in a sense like a freeloader disc.

I'm sort of curious about it, I might look in to it seeing as I'd love to get Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and well buying a Japanese Wii just for that is a bit too much.

Picked up these recently.

Boom Blox is surprisingly fun especially multiplayer wise. I really like the Jenga-esque puzzles, not caring for the shooting gallery ones though. I need to get around to fiddling with the Create mode and make myself some Rube Goldberg machines.

Mario Kart Wii has been frustrating but fun none the less, I three starred everything in the DS one but I don't think I can be bothered with this one though, just aiming for one star. Working through 150CC at the moment.

I love the Wario Land games, one and two (the Gameboy ones) are my favourite. So naturally I needed to pick Wario Land The Shake Dimension up. It looks absolutely gorgeous, shame it doesn't really utilize wide screen. On world three at the moment, I'm just blitzing the levels, I'll come back and grab the treasures and do the quests later.

Lego Batman I haven't touched yet. Planning on getting a few friends over soon for a night of Lego Batman-ing because really the TT Lego games are best played in co-op mode.

Mario Kart 64 was my 2nd favourite game on the 64 (after Smash Bros) and the DS version barely left my DS till I got it chipped.

The Wii game while damn fun in multiplayer and multiplayer online, is annoying to unlock everything. I've actually stopped playing as I find no enjoyment on the Bikes or the 100cc class that forces me to ride them.
I'm sure I'll get back into it sometime, just not anytime soon.

Golden Phoenix

I think the main problem with the Wii's Mario Kart is that with the extra racers you have 3 more people who are likely to get items that will hit you when you are in first. Not only that but they introduced the POW block that gets everyone.
I have yet to make it through a race without being hit by something like a blue shell, thunder or POW

Also, why in the world did they get rid of Boo?!?!?! I don't get it. That item was totally fine, why did they have to take it out?
I actually found it handy. Your in 1st place, dragging a banana and you have a fake item in hold, boo takes fake item and you now have another chance to get a shell or another banana without having to drop your current defence.

De Blob is Awesomesauce smothered in Awesomesauce!

So very very cool. Only played the opening level and lots of multiplayer, but so far colour me impressed, physics work, particle emitters are brilliant, and sound effects superb!

Multiplayer is a nice addition, and since its so easy to pick up and play both the gf had a blast as well.

Soundtrack is beautiful.

I have the TPHack runnign on my wii and have had no problems( Touch wood), the region loader works well too. I deliberately found and bought a cheap verison of US No More Heroes (with 100% extra Blood!) just to give it a test out.

Now that Kurdt alerted me to Tatsunoko vs Capcom, I have a good reason to keep the homebrew running(I love the Vs Capcom series)! When I found capcom, I also discovered Taiko no Tatsujin (a fave sereis of mine) for Wii too! Huzzah! too bad I discovered after the dollar went down. Ends up becoming a bit owies.... That's Taiko No Tatsujin. Basically a rhythm based game. You hit theleft or right side of the drum and also the edges of it. If you have played Donkey Konga on the Gamecube its similar in premise as its the same developers. It's great fun. But the real fun is the game on the right. I'm investigating the TPh right now.

Arr Taiko no Tatsujin indeed! Drum Champion! Awesome fun party game. I was addicted after playing it in th arcades in Japan. Now I have it for PS2 (about 4 volumes), DS (2 Volumes) and now Wii!

The Wii feels like it has a better made drum than the PS2. Its a little softer and realistic feeling. Unfrotunately, Taiko is a good sized prezzy under the tree, so its wrapped up until Xmas day! WHOOOOOOOO!

I offer my advice re TPH for those interested.;)

I played some Tatsunoko VS Capcom at my friends yesterday.

Hell yeah this game rocks!

Thankfully we had two classic controllers. The wiimote + nunchuck combo is for a gimped overly simplified control scheme, directional specials (no need for quarter, half circling etc.), one button combos (eg. AAA) and A+B to activate supers, good for beginners and casual fighting fans but you really need a gamepad or an arcade stick if you want to get the most out of it.

I love the three attack (light, medium and heavy) button control scheme. Reminds me of the Bleach DS fighters and all those PC Japanese doujin fighters. So it was pretty easy for me to pick up and get into the groove and rhythm of the game. +1 for bursting/mega crush. Couldn't quite get the baroque system in the few hours we played, I just couldn't consistently dash fast enough after I activate it on the d-pad or analog stick (I really can't play fighters with gamepad analog sticks), ditto with the mid-air partner tagging.

Capcom side; Ryu was a cinch to use. Rock/Megaman took me a bit to figure out his equipping moves. Alex and Batsu were probably my favourites to use from Capcom. PTX-40A! Grr absolutely frustrating to versus against.

Tatsunoko side; Ken, Jun and Casshern were my favourites. Ippatsuman was hilariously fun, our versus games consisted of each other trying to suck each other in the bottles and summoning those little robots from the boxes. Found most of the Tatsunoko characters a bit harder to learn.

Probably my favourite of the Capcom crossover games. I found this the easiest to jump into (maybe it's all the Japanese doujin fighters I play?) and it's extremely satisfying game.

Okay that's it, Homebrew Channel here I come!

Also Tetsuwan Convoy, what's material is the drum (specifically the face) and sticks look like they are plastic, are they hollow or do you actually feel heavy? Does the whole thing feel sturdy? I'm thinking of getting Taiko no Tatsujin Wii.

Yeh, it is pretty easy to pick up and away you go innit? I managed to get up the last guy (I think) on my first arcade game with a Ryu/Casshern combo, mainly using Ryu as I had trouble getting anything special outta Casshern. Very Pretty with the specials as well. Haven'T had a chance to use evryone or unlock anything yet though!

Whats the deal with the Mega Crush and how do you get 2 supers going at the same time? Its taking a bit to get me out of Marvel Vs Capcom mode on this....

Can't comment so much on Taiko, as its currently under the Xmas tree. Well next to, I have a small Xmas tree..... But from when I took the photo, it feels sturdier than the Ps2 Drum, which had a tendency to move away from you as you played, so I would usually end up RIGHT in front of the telly at the end of a song.

It also looks like it has a tougher base as well. The sticks (I forget what the are called right now) are hollow, but they are quite thick so please don't whacl anyone in the head with one unless you want to hurt them.:D

18th December 2008, 10:09 AM
Mega crash uses two supers bars, it's just a way to get out of opponent's combos. You "burst" and it sends the opponent flying back.

Double supers you perform your normal super then press P (the partner) button straight after. We couldn't figure out the timing, it just ended up being a lot easier to press P along with two attack buttons at the same time eg. Ryu we'd do QCF + ABP. But that wasn't 100% consistent.

There's also delayed supers, you do one character's super then you follow up with your other character. This was a lot easier, you just do the super command of the character in play then do the super command of your tagged out character.

EDIT: Also where did you order Taiko no Tatsujin Wii from? I assume you got it online and not at a bricks and mortars store.

I really wanted to like Samba de Amigo. I really did but alas it's just not doing it.

We had some laughs when me and some pals played some multiplayer but we soon gave up. It feels very "constricted", you need to be holding/tilting the wiimotes at a certain angle or it just won't register. It should of been a more lax free easy going game instead of having to do these robotic arm movements just to get the shakes in.

de Blob on the other hand is gold. Recently finished it. Wow long levels are long. Spent a good hour per level trying to colour as much as possible. Multiplayer is quite a blast, noticeable frame drop, not as smooth as singleplayer but nothing that dampens the enjoyability.

I enjoyed the concept of it. Only thing that ruined it for em was the jumping. I would rather a button then having to rely on the wiimote's sensors.

Brought DBZ Budokai Tenkachi 3 (Spelling may be off :) ) I cant express how much fun this is to play on the Wii. After reading some reviews before purchasing I feared the game would be too hard to control, but I was very wrong as it took me about 10mins to perfect the art of DBZ Wii. Highly recommend getting this game!

I found it underwhelming in comparison to DBZ BT2 on the Wii, still a good game, but I feel like they took a backwards step with the wii-mote controls.
Did like that they expanded the roster, and the movesets for each character are less copy paste than previous games. Getting Fasha is a pain in the butt, as World Tournies are now more random and painful.

Wish they would have released infinite Worlds on Wii, its a fun game and follows on from the Budokai games.

I didn't mind it, it became second nature, but flicking the wrist does get a bit tiring especially when levels can drag on for an hour. Mid level save points was what was needed.

Mario Party 8 was a bit dissapointing after coming from the highs of Mario Party 5 & 7. Just FYI, Mario Party games are rather slow games. It's a boardgame with minigames in between rounds. Expect a good hour for a short game, 2 hours for a standard game and 3+ for a long game of 50 turns.

If you still have Gamecube controllers about, I really suggest to get a cheap copy of the Gamecube Mario Party 5 as (IMO) it is the best Mario Party available.

Get Rayman Raving Rabbids TV PARTY 1orion. It's currently $39 at GAME and it has much more better and fun uses for the board than tell you that you are fat ;). It's a compilation of minigames, one of which allows you to use the board as pedals for acceleration, dancing and even sitting on it and using your butt to steer. Sheer madness.

piratescratch, I think I'm off to pre-order that set. Sega's light gun games on the Wii have been top notch. Especially Ghost Squad. Since this is a new game bult from scratch for the Wii and not some port, this is going to be one progressive light gun shooter ala Umbrella Chronicles and Disaster.

That looks awesome Piratescratch. I already have good guns that shoot from the trigger like these pictured ones do and House of the Dead 3+4 for Wii and I have to say it has some of the clearest graphics to shine on the 52 inch LCD we have. It really looks (almost) as good as some of the PS3 games we have.

Could not agree more, its worth getting at $60 too, it only took a day for me and my mates to "finish" the game (unlocking every mini-game) but we are still going trying to get the records for the funner games. The large number of dancing games and band games get boring and repetitive, but the rest of the games (especially the toboggan, motorbike, and shooting games) are fantastic, a real step up from the 2nd Rabbid game.

It's also hilarious to watch others play, and its pretty quick (though not Wario quick) unlike Mario Party.

If you want to get the Shaun White Snowboarding game for the Wii, do not expect to be playing it on the Wii-fit board for long, it really really kills your knees playing on the board, and it is far more fun and intuitive using just the Wii-mote. It's a nice looking and easy to pick up and play game, but does not come close to taking the top snowboarding game spot from SSX tricky.

Anyone have any thoughts regarding the Nerf N-Strike Wii game?

The game looks a bit simple but I like the idea of having a nerf gun to muck around with and double up for some House Of The Dead action.

On that note, I also realised that the House Of The Dead Overkill has a bundle with 2 Wii gun holders. Does anyone think these will be any good?

I already have a Nyko Perfect Shot but I hate the fact that you need to remove the Wii strap everytime you want to use it.

From a review I read, they said that the guns that come with the Bang Bang box version of Overkill aren't ideal. I'll update when I get mine this week for a proper impression. I too have a Nyko Perfect Shot and find it almost perfect. The main draw was the graphic novel included in that Overkill box. Haven't tried that Nerf game, not too interested actually and the videos for it doesn't fill me with much confidence. The attachment for it looks a treat though.

Also Deadly Creatures on Wii is amazing. Not for the squeamish or fearful of 8 legged creepy crawlies, but if you can stomach them, be prepared for a very unique adventure.

I've finally Homebrewed my Wii and have Tatsunoko vs Capcom on the way. Hopefully comes in tomorrow. Also ordered No More Heroes (for bloody goodness) and Tales of Symphonia 2 from Canada since our dollar is doing relatively well against it.

I actually just got Tatsunoko vs Capcom in the mail today at work. I can't wait to get home. So much fighting goodness this week, with Street Fighter 4 as well. The process for Homebrewing was simple TC, but it took me a while to figure out where to put what in the SD Card.

No More Heroes was purposefully done to be only bloody for the US version. The Japanese and European PAL versions were blood-less. This was a conscious decision by the creator, I think to highlight the bloodlust the US has for their games.

Madworld has been given the green light by the OFLC (Australian Classification board) and will not be getting any sort of censoring or cuts. Which is good news. I guess the art style and cartoon-like excessive violence isn't realistic enough for the censors.

The TW Hack is easy.

I wonder what that says about me wanting the bloody version of heroes?:D

No cutting on Madworld hey? Cool! But the OFLC have some major inconsistencies. I usually see the ratings for movies and sometimes they don't justify the rating. Kil Bill "R"? Zack and Miri make a Porno "R"?!?!? It only got an R coz it has the word Porno in the title. Bet if it didnt it would scrape in as an MA movie.....

Also only $69.

TvC is awesome. While not quite in the dizzying heights that MvC2 reached, this is a very promising start and I guess the sequel will be bloody jam packed with even more characters. Also the sphere boss had my head scratching as it was really familiar. Until I realised it was the final boss in Okami. I was chuffed.

It took me a while to realise that last guy in TvC was from Okami as well(I couldn't stop playing that game when I got it. Its a shame that it didn't seem to sell well here). I just picked up my Bang Bang Box set.

The guns are quite nice, the rubber feel of the handle is great and so is the trigger (nice and light).

The only problem I've found with the gun is that the barrel is a bit long and because of this, the weight distribution is towards the front of the gun so it takes a while to get used to.

I only had a quick play with the game. There are some technical issues as other reviews have pointed out - the worst I've encountered so far is a bit of lag - it seems as if the Wii is being pushed to it's limits, so don't expect smooth gun movement.

The trigger has a mechanical lever which pushes the B button on the Wiimote.

The trigger is light and springy so it doesn't tire you out like some of the cheaper gun holders.

The back top of the gun flips open and you can thread the numchuck controller cable through. The gun grip also has a slit down the middle allowing to thread the cable down the gun grip.

I thought that the JB Hifi price was an online only price and that it was only available early March (i.e. after the formal street date release). Oh well...

Overkill is great. Absolutely digging the grindhouse style presentation. They pretty much nailed it and makes for a much more bombastic and over the top fun than the usual tripe. I heard there's a Madworld trailer in there too. It's a great companion piece for Ghost Squad and Resi Evil Umbrella Chronicles.

Tiby - the nunchuck is not needed.

Also put some time in on Tatsunoko vs Capcom. I'm loving the roster as it's actually very varied and not the obvious choices. For the Capcom side anyway. The Tatsunoko side I'm not too savvy on its history. i've watched a few videos and the Baroque technique allows for some extended air combos. I can't work out how to do a simultaneous super with both characters though. I finally got the technique required to beat Yami (last boss). Not too tough really.

Also played some bloody No More Heroes. Boy is it bloody. Yeesh. It's practically raining blood whenever you decapitate an enemy.

Got Tales Of Symphonia 2 as well. Watched the first 20 mins and now I've spoilt the ending for the first. :/ Never finished the first.

If you want to see excellent use of Baroque, check this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAP1CHiiqSY) out.

Simultaneous supers you need to press the partner button right after you execute a super but I can't quite time it, I just find it easier pressing P (partner) at the same time so eg. with Ryu you would do QCF + ABP.

Yami is pretty simple, just chip damage him with basic A > B > C and burst if you get caught in his grab supers. Only trouble I had defeating Yami was with Gold Lightan because of his slow block.

I too am currently playing through No More Heroes, been on and off it for these past few weeks. I'm fifth rank at the moment. I love the presentation and feel but really hate the over world, breaks up the flow of the game I reckon, hope they ditch it in the sequel or make it a bit more lively.

Tetsuwan Convoy
20th February 2009, 08:58 AM
Yeh, I go for the ABP for the combo as well, but I think the timing can be slightly different between pairs...

Fun tip. Partner Ryu with the rockman guy. Have Ryu start a simultaneous super and rockman will jump in. When he Ryu:s shinkuu hadoken has finished, rockman will still be blasting away. Get Ryu to slap in another Shinkuu Hadoken = 72 or so hit count!!!!!:D

I was a little bit shocked at the small roster, especially since Marvel v Capcom had 56 or so characters to play with. But I like the smaller roster personally, as it makes me more likely to play with them all and try to get decent with them.

One question though. Why the HELL is Roll in there and not someone cool like Capt Commando or Strider, or better yet, Ammy?!?!?!?!? Man she sucks!

Oh nice that Ryu/Rock super combo sounds ace, I'll have to give it a try.

Also little note when using Rock you can charge your blast (C - heavy) whilst you are in the middle of a super. So say you do the machine gun super (QCB + AB) whilst that is blasting away hold down C and charge up, after the super is finished you've got an almost fully charged blast to let off.

Stompy

Awesome combo video. I'm more a basic style player than ultra long combo strings when it comes to fighters. Hence why I tend to favour my grapplers and specialized characters. The use of the combo breaker is a decent addition to the series since you can now break up combo's if you ever get stuck on one.

Thanks for the dual super tip and for that Ryu/Megaman combo.

Roll was an odd addition but I think they are trying to match up the characters accordingly for each team. The two Gatchaman characters vs the two Street Fighter 2 characters (Ryu & Chun Li). And since they have two characters from Megaman, the Tatsunoko side has Yatterman and Doronjo from that same show. There's always a joke character (remember Kobun/Servbot for MvC2) and I don't mind. The roster is a bit tiny but I'm sure a sequel will be in the works with double the roster. Ammy would have been really nice or even Dante. I want characters that haven't been in the other vs games yet.

I tried that Ryu/Rock simultaneous super trick that Tetsuwan Convoy mentioned earlier, if you have maxed out level five bar you can throw in another Rock machine gun combo after you call out Ryu again which can rack up a neat 100+ combo and nab you that "tatsunical (?)" remark from the announcer.

All in all that takes off roughly half the health bar, I don't know if that's a good way to use five bars if you're playing competitively.

Finally finished the normal run of HOTD. Very funny twas too. Aaaa, that game is nicely polished.

Picked up Tenchu Shadow Assasins yesterday.

I have been a fan of Tenchu since I bought it on a whim for the PS1 (twas calles Tenchu: Stealth Assasins). They have been ok, but nothing great on PS2. Never played Z so I was kinda excietd seeing it on wii, so I snapped it up.

Quite a change from the rest of the series. No more running around on roof-tops, lots of sneaking around alleyways and the like. Cool thing is now you can blow out lights and shadows appear (or light dissappears depending on your point of view:p) and you can really hide in the shadows. Lots of nice stealth kills that vary with the way you swing nun-chuk and wiimote. WHich is also a bit of downfall for the game.

Over reliance on motion controls (MC from now on). You use MC to dash from place to place, do the kills and defend when in a sword fight. I am not a fan f some MC as they are very loose and often you get the wrong move (re:Links Shield Bash menouvre). Problem being that from the 4 hours or so that I have played, everytime I encountered a sword fight, I have failed. That includes the mission/tutorial section....

You take turns swinging the sword with your enemy. They attack, you defend, break their attack and you can attack them. It works like this, they will go to swing and a red line will flash up showing you the type of stroke that is coming (eg horizontal/vertical) and you must hold wiimote 90 degress to the line(so horizontal stroke coming, hold wiimote vertical to block) do this for a couple of attacks and its your turn to attack. Swing wiimote. Arrows appear indicating best direction to swing for effiecient attacks. then the enemy gets another go. Here it gets hard. The indicator line goes really quick now and while the enemy seem to be able to withstand a good number of hits from you, one good one from them and you dead.

Add to that the MC are a little off in execution makes non-stealth kills a real pain in the ass. I would have preferred the option of playing with the classic controller myself....

nice graphics, good sound. Gameplay a bt hit and miss, like the sword fights.:D

I give it 6/10

Hopefully it will tide me over until Madworld comes out next month.:D

Has anyone updated their wii with last nights update?

I did. Lets me load stuff from the SD card and also lets you read the SDHC cards

Only problem I have is that it won't read the SDHC card in Guitar Hero World Tour.
Any one else had this problem

I second MadWorld. Tremendous fun. Those visuals are mindblowing and the violence. Dear god the over the top violence! Won't somebody please think of the children! :D

Thorouhgly enjoying it so far. Although the bosses have been fairly easy.

As for the update. It didn't kill the Homebrew Channel and still works fine. But a big thanks from Nintendo for finally giving us a good storage solution.

MadWorld is excellent. However I can see it getting a bit repetitive. Great for short bursts. Nothing more satisfying then then spearing four to five sign posts in an enemies head and watch him waddle around.

I'm up to the first stage of Mad Castle. Ugh those grim reapers on skates are sure annoying.

I'm glad it doesn't kill the HBC but even if it did I wouldn't be worried The team would probably find a work around in a few days like they did with the 3.4 update.

I havent updated for because I like the HB channel. It doesn't kill the channel, but can you add new apps to it? Or do you have to stick with the ones you have?

Final question, did anyone on 3.4 have it auto-update or did it ask for permision to update.

I am waiting for Madworld....Cmon Aust post......:o

Wiiii!

Madworld violently killed my postman by shoving his bike up his bumb and throwing him on the road! WOW! What a game! Love the look, but dont think I could crank it all night. My only quibble so far is that it is really too easy to accidentally throw something with a minute shake of the wiimote when you dont want too...

But LOVE the way that people can be killed! So far my fave is grating them down as a train goes by. Risky, but awesome. They also handled the chainsaw arm wuite well. I was thinking some kinda lame evil dead guy thing where its always there, but it aint. Sweet! Gonna put down Tenchu for a bit and get this one cranking now!!;)

Weird thing though. When I put the game in, it had the update thing come up. I thought it was goig to go to 4.0 and thought they had managed to bung that onto the disc quickly (It was first reported as a Korean update about a week ago). So I tried going throught he Gecko loader, which I think bypasses the update on discs, but it crahsed.

So I updated.

From 3.4 to 3.4

Wait a sec? WTF? I am certain I was on 3.4 before and now the system says 3.4E (not sure about the E or not for the last one). Odd

kurdt_the_goat
31st March 2009, 02:44 AM
The Korean release was just 3.5, and doesn't contain the new SD transfer feature (or the others). The disc updates can be full firmware, game specific updates or just a check of some sorts i think... Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_System_Software) .. doesn't mention Madworld specific updates tho.

E3 is on. I know a few of us here have Tatsunoko VS. Capcom and one of the announcements was that it's getting an English release. Now why would we get this again when it's perfectly playable in Japanese? Well ...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=363776

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-tatsunoko-vs/49941

SAN MATEO, CA — June 2, 2009 — Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is coming to North America for the Wii™ home video game system. Capcom’s popular and critically acclaimed ‘VS’ fighting series is getting an all new next-generation introduction. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom pits Capcom’s iconic characters against Tatsunoko Productions anime superheroes. This clash of heroes face off in two-on-two battles for the ultimate 2D tag-team battle.

Originally released in Japanese arcades in the Fall of 2008, the original Tatsunoko vs. Capcom moved to the Wii console on December 11, 2008. This extraordinary fighter will blend these two rich universes by taking Capcom characters like Ryu from Street Fighter, Morrigan from Darkstalkers and the giant PTX-40A from Lost Planet and putting them against Tatsunoko fan-favorite characters from Gatchaman, Hurricane Polymar, Casshern and more. It’s a battler oyale that delivers match-ups that only exist in fans wildest dreams!

Unlike the more well-known six-button layout that the Street Fighter franchise pioneered, the VS line features a simplified four button system: “Weak”, “Medium”, “Strong” and “Assist” for the tag-team option of. The “Assist” feature adds another compelling element found Capcom’s other “VS” series: allowing players to switch their character on the fly or call for help from their tag-team partner, allowing for spectacular super moves (“Hyper Variable Combination”). Successful execution of the Assist feature can turn the tide of battle on a dime. Historically the VS series excels in integrating the tag-team options by including customized moves like Variable Assist, Snapback, and the previously mentioned Hyper Variable combination that lets both characters on one team perform their Hyper attack.

TvC enhances the above gameplay with new mechanics, including the Variable Aerial Rave that allows characters to be switched in the middle of an Aerial rave. More moves include the offensive Assault and defensive maneuver Mega Crash. Another new gameplay mechanic, titled Baroque, illuminates the character in a rainbow of colors, cancels the current attack and extends combos and damage.

Featuring a robust line-up of characters, the console version added four mini-games and optional control schemes

This “newer” version of TvC, currently dubbed Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, removes one character due to licensing issues, and adds five new ones, online gameplay, more mini-games and an enhanced story mode.

Features:

• 26 fan-favorite characters from the Tatsunoko and Capcom universes face-off in this stylish 2D fighter

• Tag-team battles and customized two-character fighting techniques produce a wild, dazzling spectacle

• Wi-Fi Online gameplay allows worldwide matches

• Four battle modes include Friend, Rival, Free and Ranked Battles

• Match-ups are not restricted to just “Friends”

• Earn Points and Titles (for Title Creation) for all to see

• All-new VS gameplay mechanics creates a new way for fans to return to the series

• More than 20 Mini-game provide additional multiplayer fun

• Enhanced control schemes offer a simplified control scheme option and allow use of the Classic Controller and Gamecube Controller

• Wii-exclusive

Five new characters! Online mode!

The character that got removed due to licensing issues was Daimao (the genie). He'll be sorely missed amongst me and my friends, we loved dropping crates and going "oh bingo bingo". But five new characters, I assume 3 for Tatsunoko and 2 for Capcom. That's a pretty big plus. For the Capcom side (as I know barely anything from Tatsunoko), I'd definitely like to see another Rival Schools characters (Edge or Akira perhaps?) or another one from Darkstalkers (B.B. Hood or Hsien Ko), or hey even Power Stone, that would be ace.

Fall (US) release date has been thrown around.

Guess I will be getting this game again.

I would buy Tatsunoko again. Online YES! Booyah! New characters? YES! Damn fine gameplay? YEEEEEEEEES! Looks like they are adding a few things from SFIV with the online fighting and trophy options.Excitement levels UUUUUUUUUUUP!

Oh, Daimao, how I would baffle newbies to the game with you. I believe Speed Racer is a Tatsunoko chappy. Beyblades and they had a part in Evangelion as well. Hmmm, more big robots?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatsunoko_Productions#Anime_series

On the Capcom side, since Yami is the bad guy at the end, I would like to see Amaterasu from Okami (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okami) as well. I think the way the weapons and Celestial Brush were done, they would work hell schmikky in a Vs Cap game. Shame they didn't drop Roll for someone betterer.

Stompy
7th June 2009, 02:23 PM
Well if it's a 2-3 character split for TvC I'd want any of these characers:

Capcom:
- Dante (DMC)
- a Power Stone character
- Amaterasu (Okami)
- Leon, Chris or Wesker (Resident Evil)
- C.Viper or El Fuerte (SF4)

Tatsunoko:
- Speed Racer
- a Samurai Pizza Cat
- a Tekkaman character

Anybody bought Wii Motion Plus yet?

I just bought the EA Grand Slam Tennis bundle with the Wii Motion Plus.

Unfortunately because of all the hype, I was expecting the world of this and not surprisingly it's fallen short of the hype.

That's not to say it's a bad thing but it's not as 1:1 as all those EA promo videos made it out to be. I still think it's a good game that gets better with more practice.

Hopefully Wii Sports Resort shows off the Wii Motion Plus better.

I'll probably grab Tiger Woods 2010. It looks to be the best Motion Plus game so far.

Picked up Ghost Squad a little while ago as well. Pretty good port of the arcade game, only this time I'm not pumping coins into it at a stupid rate. Only $20 too. It's extremely short but lots of replay value with the unlockables. Can't wait to be able to play though it in the panda suit.

Imported...yes.. that's it.

Zack and Wiki is long, and could be stupidly long if you are not good with puzzles. It is kind of like Monkey Island games, but you can die, and have to restart the level all over again. Most of the times you die it is because of the poor aiming/directing of the main character who has a tendency to wealk past where you told him to stop. But is a very nice game, as you would expect from Capcom.

Not enjoying Madworld, I find I am missing finding items to kill people with purely because of the b&w scheme.

Wii Sports resort is more fun than I expected. Table tennis is fantastic with its spin, basketball works far better than i hoped, and 100 pin bowling and frisbee golf are addictive.
But it is the island flyover, trying to get all 90 points of interest that is doing my head in.

Madworld was fun at the start, but got very repetitive after a few levels of using the the same old killing objects. Looking forward to Red Steel 2. Red Steel was a good game with crappy swordplay. Number 2 is looking a lot more playable.

Anyone else here 'homebrewed' their Wii? I gave it a go on Wednesday and am so glad I did! Don't have to use freeloader anymore for imports (and because of this I can now actually update my Wii without worrying about it - well, for now at least), can transfer data to my SD card using the Wii as an ftp server, can use internet radio, emulators etc. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner!

Are there any Silent Hill fans here? I see 'Shattered Memories' (that name really doens't fill me with confidence) is up for pre-order now so I'll be taking the plunge some time soon. :) Replaying Homecoming on the PS3 at the moment in anticipation!

Oh and I hope all you Wii fans have given Klonoa a try - it's brill!

Glad to hear you're pumped for the new Silent Hill too, I think it's going to be quite different from a gameplay perspective but I see this as a good thing. Really looking forward to using the wiimote to control the flash light and also to see how the lack of combat works out. Having seen a few recent screen shots it looks like Harry can at least dodge/push monsters which is nice to see.

The one thing that does concern me is that every screenshot features the same generic enemies.
The only creatures I remember looking like this in SH1 were the ones SPOILER at the very beginning when Harry get's killed in his 'nightmare' /SPOILER. Hopefuly they're just from this part but who knows...I hope so as one of SH's strong points has always been brilliant monster designs. We'll see!

What do you gotta do to get the Homebrew Channel and are there any risks of compromising your console?

First of all you will need a Wii compatible SD card that's no larger than 2GB (I recommend getting a 2GB Sandisk from Big W for sub-$20).

I hadn't updated my Wii in AGES so I was able to do the Homebrew Channel install via the Twilight hack. I followed the now pretty outdated guide found here: http://palgn.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=33300 and had to use various other forums to figure what to do with the newer files you need to d/l from the links provided in the guide. If you need any help with this method let me know. :) As far as I'm aware there's not really anything you can do when installing the Homebrew Channel that's going to brick your console, and once it's installed you can update the Wii to the current version without fear of the channel being erased (for now at least).

As long as you don't tinker with WAD files (which I believe tamper with the Wii system settings and are mainly used for naughty reasons anyway) you should be fine.

If your Wii has been updated recently it's apparently a bit trickier and you have to use the 'bannerbomb' method. Don't really know much about this one sorry.

I got a mate who is a real IT nerd to homebrew my Wii, so I am not really up on the whole process, but it was relatively simple to do.

I mostly use it for copied games, but you can use it to get Wiiware and stuff as well.

Been playing lots of multiplayer Sports Resort, Swordplay showdown is clever, the more you rush, the easier you get beat. Table Tennis is killing me, I cannot compete with the champ, but kill everyone else!
100 pin bowling is ace, all real-life bowling should be 100 pin bowling.

Good source for Homebrew I have found is

You can hack up to update 4.1 (using Banner bomb) as far as I know. The twilight hack has been superceded now, but works with older firmware.
Easy peasy Homebew installation here (http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/Setting_up_your_Wii_for_Homebrew)

I just Bought Okami for the Wii. Nice! I have it for Ps2 and love it more than a man should love a game, so the chance of playing it in widescreen and with lovel 480 p was too hard to resist. They have softened the paper effect on the background a lot though. Had to import it from UK as no-where in Australia seems to have it (well Perth anyway, not suprised there!). I read an interview with Capcom and they said they won't make a sequel as the first game didn't sell well enough. Probably coz they didn't distribute it much and no-one can get their hands on the bloody thing....

In a word.... yes.

In more words...

It's a heck of a lot of fun with friends, and okay as a single player game. The opening levels are easy but the later level designs get downright nasty, and thats where multiplayer comes in handy. I had two mates over so my missus (who is not a game person) grabbed the fourth spot and we played for a good solid 2 hours without failing a level. It does come down to a murderfest between one another, until the last man standing needs help, as long as one person is alive, the game continues.

Yeh, I had a look at that. Seems lke a good idea, but god I hate those damn wii friend codes, and then you need a friggin game code. What a pain in the ass!

Zippo: NSMBW is ace! Shame they couldn't have jazzed up the graphics a bit though and goven a new character instead of using 2 Toads. Cheapasses!
